Funny..... But you forgot to mention Fernando Bryant in that list of players...I do believe he is still playing in the NFL (detroit lions). I don't know why you want to crack on Duke... he was only a two sport athlete at Vandy and now has a degree from there...man what bad luck!!!! Don't forget about david coppins, believe he played O-line and also graduated from Vandy.... Sure there are plenty of players who haven't excelled after HS but is that always a bad thing?

Its official Coach Ferg was relieved of his coaching duties this afternoon. The players were all notified in a meeting today as well. Class act!! Just didn't work out for him. I wish him luck in what ever his future holds!!!!

The Oakland junior football player sustained a fracture of his C-1 vertebrae Friday night after absorbing a bone-jarring hit from Smyrna's Corey Cammon. However, the severity of his injury was not immediately known. ADVERTISEMENT "At first we thought it was a concussion," said Oakland coach Lebron Ferguson. "He took a huge hit, but once he got over to the sidelines he was able to carry on a conversation. "His dad stopped me by the gate at the end of halftime and said they were taking him to the hospital and I told them I thought that was a good idea." The C-1 vertebrae is the top most of the bones in the spine, and connects the spine to the skull, making it one of the most important and dangerous if injured. However, while surgery was discussed, and remains a possibility if complications arise, Messick's injury was treated with a cervical halo which immobilizes the head. He will have to wear a halo for approximately three months. There haven't been adverse effects of yet, and Messick, according to his mother Laura, has full mobility, except for the motion the halo restricts. "We're Christians, and we believe that God was watching out for Brandon," said Laura. "We think the Lord had a hand in him not being hurt worse, and we're thankful for that." Brandon, who is a starting safety and reserve quarterback for the Patriots, is expected to return to classes beginning Monday. Expectations are that he will start with half-days and gradually work his way up. "He's such an active kid, and a strong young man," said Oakland principal Butch Vaughn. "He comes from a good family and we know that it's tough to keep him down, and we expect him to make a full recovery."

Messick is at Vandy, the doctors are going to put him in a halo. If that works he will be coming home in a day or two, if not, he will likely have surgery in a couple of days.

Oakland's D has to come out HOT like it has every other week and hope that the Offense will finally feed off the intensity of the defense!!!!

Can anyone explain to me why the game can't or isn't being moved back to 800pm due to this crazy heat. I know it can't be because of travel . I think the season should be moved back a week anyway, at least.

You are right about practicing indoors when you play outdoors.....but those days that the school board banned all outdoor facilities do you not think it would have been better to practice on a field rather than a gym floor???? and no its not finished....Great preparation!!!! what a joke.....Riverdale would jump all over the opportunity to have an indoor facility...heck what team wouldn't???? don't knock it because you don't have one buddy. So Oakland isn't talking on here......WHO CARES???? everyone is picking riverdale???? what a leap of faith. I'll probably pick them to win most of their games too...

AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The O-line better STEP UP fast!!!!! the rest of the offense sputtered as well.... Oakland needs to open up the playbook!!!! I hope that the play calling was vanilla because it was a scrimmage!!!!!!!! Defense was strong as usual. It has been the strong point for the last four years and I don't see any signs of it letting up this year! the offense just needs to start carrying its own weight and stop leaning on the D to bail them out!!!!

So the only way to get a rule changed or challenged is to deliberately break it? All parties knew the rule, so one party wants it reviewed. this keeps everyone out of trouble!!!!! but the T$$AA, who are Obviously your "boys" refused to hear it. again they hid behind a bunch of bureaucratic red tape and B.S. so they wouldn't have to touch it.....is it because this rule is somebody's baby? Or are they just mad that people have the audacity to challenge their tyrannical authority?

Coach I agree with you. However the T$$AA refused a chance to meet. They claim that there isn't enough time to get everyone together. What a joke!!!!! Have they not heard of conference calls or video conferencing? Enforce rules...yes but don't hide when a rule is challenged....COWARDS!!!!!!!!!

Rules and laws should be looked over and amended on a regular basis...Example: until july 1st of this year there was no state statute making bestiality illigal, the law was changed...same should apply to the T$$AA
