  1. This is a big game for both teams. If Crockett wants to have any chance of going to the playoffs they must win this game! Volunteer needs this win to snap a 17 game losing streak and what better game to do it on than a conference homecoming game.

Volunteer will build on last weeks offensive success and begin to throw the ball more and will also catch a few breaks with a couple of Pioneer redzone turnovers. Crockett will score some points but in the end Volunteer will hold off the Pioneers in the final minutes for an upset 29-27 win on homecoming. The goalposts could come down this Friday in Church Hill!

Crockett is the better of these two teams. But, if they do not show up to play they will get beat. I think this is going to be a close one. Volunteer may just break that streak. I remember a few years ago when Crockett beat Volunteer on a miracle play to break a long losing streak. Volunteer may return that favor.

  2. Being a Crockett fan I can relate to much of the conversation that is going on here. Crockett has a terrible football tradition and history. Crockett has two winning records since the school opened in the 70s.

Crockett runs the wing-t. While it is what some would say an out of date offense, it works. It worked very well for DC last year and it will this year. (I should throw in we can not throw the ball what-so-ever. One pass attempt last week). It will work this year because the kids know the system. They have run it since they were freshmen. The main reason it will work is the talent level. This is probably one of the most talented teams they've had since the playoff year they had in 2000 or 2001.

Next year looks to be a long year for DC because they lose a ton of talent.

From my experience at Crockett, I say support the coach. He is already in under enough stress. If he is not performing, let the powers at be make that decision. Help him in the growth of these young men. That's what really matters.

  3. From the videos I have seen posted, SH is definitely improved, but they have a long way to go before they can make that statement. It should be extremely competitive between TH, Boone, South, and SH.

I agree. The Hill isn't there yet. Give them a year.

While SH's under one minute drive to win the game was very impressive, they very easily could have lost the game. Soddy Daisy had a number of penalities in the second half. Not to mention an INT they threw in the endzone.

However, you can definately see a difference from last year. Like I said before, they are better coached.

    Only time will tell.

  4. I know East is weak. That's not the basis of why I said what I said.

Crockett was a one point loss to the Hill away from the playoffs last year. They returned quite a bit from last year. They list Sumo, but others can carry the load. DC will win at least four this year with Cocke Co., South Greene and Central on the schedule. Volunteer is a winnable game. If they are going to pull an upset this will be the year.

  5. I respect the tradition of D-B. And believe me I know Crockett has very little football tradition. However, when is the last time D-B won a state title? TN High won the last state title in upper East Tennessee. Then Morristown East in 69'? Greeneville has come the closest since. That being last year.

  6. I would like to see any of these guys at Crockett just to see if they would have success.

I think Green has done a good job at Crockett. It is a tough place to win and he came close last year.

Also congrats to the assistant who got the head job at North Greene.

  7. I'm predicting Boone will win this game, but I am rooting for South.

The way Boone has been playing the last couple of weeks it is hard to pick against them. Both teams are talented and will show heart. With that said, whoever wins the turnover battle and tackles the best will be the team that wins this game.

Good luck to both teams. I hope whoever wins this game can bring a championship back to the Big 8.

If Crockett is rooting for South then Boone has just been given a huge incentive to win because....them be fighting words!!!

PS You all had a good year, should have been 6-4!

It has nothing to do with Boone. While I do have a distaste for Boone  I'm not a graduate of DC, I merely live in the community and have taken up the cause of the Pioneer. I have the utmost respect for Coach Jenkins and Boone. If Crockett was playing South this week I would still be rooting for South. I think a lot of us became Rebel fans this year.

Good luck to both teams. I hope it is another great game.
