1. QUOTE(simple_stuff @ May 22 2007 - 07:24 PM) 826464746Franklin... Garbage thats all I got to say. Also its funny cause Ravenwood will be garbage next year. So what were you sayin about williamson county?

Yes, you are simple. I think everyone (including Redtwin) has made good points...except you.

  2. QUOTE(Redtwin @ May 21 2007 - 05:03 PM) 826464166Ravenwood has had a very stable coaching staff, which I'm sure contributes greatly to their success, but the vast majority of thier success could be credited to this graduating class. Not to say there haven't been other players contribute, but they have relied on some of these guys for 4 years now. They may have been graduating guys, but the core of the team has been this class. Look for a significant drop off next year. McCallie and MUS have upwards of 6 and 7 titles a piece. MBA has 3. Congratulations to Ravenwood on a great season, but 1 title does not a powerhouse make.

As for DII, it was started in 2002 as a developmental league. Franklin one the first title, but instead of moving up to DI as they should have, they have continued to lay back and dominate teams in a lower tier league. Although Brentwood has never won a DII title, they are guilty of the same lack of tenacity. Of course they dominate DII, they're programs have been around since the mid 1990s while most of the other teams in DII are more recent additions to the game. Hopefully, the competition committee will find a way to discourage this playing down in the future.

If the heart of TN lacrosse is anywhere, it isn't in Middle TN.

Your post about DII has some of that "sniff, sniff" old school DI perspective. Let's see...MBA has paid staff, great facilities and seven years to develop players in a system, as do other DI programs. Not to mention being around for 20 years. Not much of an advantage, huh?

I LOVE what Ravenwood has done. Great, stable coaching...coordination with the middle school program,..some school support. They are a model of grass roots, boot straps success. To set the record straight on playing down...Franklin's first year as a predominantly Franklin team (not combined with Centennial) was 2005. Even now there were some very good players on the team from Independence (also some on Centennial). Franklin had a new coach in 2006, who now has won two back-to-back titles. I'm sure Franklin will move up and pay the dues...it just irks me and others to see that dismissive, arrogant tone.

In case no one in DI has realized it yet, there are almost twice as many DII programs as DI...maybe a time for a change in attitudes? TSSAA is looming, guys.

  3. QUOTE(fivehole @ May 20 2007 - 09:42 PM) 826463812coach of the year should go to a coach who has built a program over the years and has made success with that program. My problem with Tyler Hirsh getting coach of the year honors is that he began coaching a team last year that had talented players already.

The Cookeville coach has done a fine job. Coach Hirsch had the same team as last year...what some people don't realize is at one point in the 2006 season the team was 7-7 and then won out. It's not automatic you keep the momentum. Back-to-back is big. It's still Hirsh IMO.

  4. QUOTE(bulldogger07 @ May 19 2007 - 07:55 PM) 826463067Congrats to Ravenwood for being the first public school to win the D1 Championship!

Absolutely! Congratulations to the players and coaches of Ravenwood...you worked hard and earned it. Did not lose to anyone outside of the state of Tennessee.

  5. QUOTE(cavlax17 @ May 18 2007 - 12:00 AM) 826461736It is absolutely propostorous that the D2 championship is at 10 in the morning on Sunday. This especially terrible for the team that has to play at 8. Our game will not start till at least 830-45 because we have to warm up and wait for the other game to end. That means it will not finish till 1030ish. Then neither team will be home/hotel till at least 11-11:20. Then we will not fall asleep till at least 1230-1, only to wake up at 7 extremely exhausted to play another game. I do not mean only Cookeville when I say we, Brentwood will have the same problems. Cookeville has to miss all of our graduation celebrations to be able to go to this, and two teams are going to miss Baccalaureate services. That is just a crappy reason for such a freaking early game. The championship game is just going to be a competition of which team wakes up first.

    Great midnight post.

Just play...you know, the whole season was moved back one week to accommodate other teams' graduations. If it had been the same week as last year and with Friday and Saturday dates, there would be no problem. There were not enough fields last night to do four semi games.

I noticed in your reply that you did not miss graduation...just the celebrations. You can celebrate tomorrow, right? Baccalaureate is also important to student-athletes and every effort should be made to do what is the best for the most.

  6. QUOTE(lax4life32 @ Apr 24 2007 - 09:34 PM) 826444536Ravenwood had 2 in the first, 1 in the second, and 6 in both the third and fourth quarters

Franklin had 1 in the first, 3 in the second, 1 in the third, and 2 in the fourth

After the half Franklin scored 1 to go up by two. After that it was Ravenwood taking control. They played extremely well. Created turnovers and great transition game.

  7. QUOTE(Lax @ Apr 23 2007 - 09:31 PM) 826443792ravenwood by 7+

    Ravenwood 15

    Franklin 7

Franklin led at the half but Ravenwood turned it up a notch (or two) in the second half to put it away. Both teams played really hard and showed respect for each other. Great for the sport.

  8. QUOTE(MiniShields @ Apr 17 2007 - 06:29 PM) 826439661ballsofdasouf has no respect for any other teams in lacrosse if those teams are on his/her "garbage list", and if those teams are garbage, i.e. mccallie ravenwood webb houston etc., then who isnt. completely arrogant, ignorant, and uncalled for. and by the way if ballsofdasouf is trying to lose all respect for franklin in tn among all these other teams, then keep it up.

I agree with MiniShields. I am a Franklin parent and know the coach and players very well. I can't imagine any Franklin player posting such an ignorant and arrogant message as the initial post. I hope the other teams know it is not a reflection of the respect Franklin players have for the game and other teams.

For anyone who's read this chain, do everyone a favor - resist the temptation - and let it die. it's simply not worthy of further discussion. i would remind all of the lax lovers on Coach T to review one of the first posts of the season on rules. IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE...
