  1. I believe that Wartburg can only finish in a tie with Oneida.....of course I am probably wrong.  The only way they would win it outright is if Oneida loses to Wartburg AND Oliver Springs. (possible)  These teams from our district can win some match-ups in the region as well.  It will all come down to which teams play the other.  I think Oneida is solid and can beat anyone when they play well.  They beat Clarkrange this year with a fabulous performance in their own gym.  Wartburg places a lot of reliance on hitting the three ball.....and if they do, they are dangerous for anyone.  OS coach has gotten a lot of mileage out of this years group.

If Wartburg wins they would tie Oneida.  But they beat O.S. 2 times and they would have the tie breaker I believe.  So whichever team wins tonight is 1 in the district.

  2. I think that Oakdale is in big trouble as well.  They were the 5 seed coming in to the tournament so I think they have played well to just be in the region.  Midway by 15 but could be 40 if they wanted it to be.

Wartburg - really hit their stride in the second half of the season but 2 torn ACL's one of which was a very solid scorer and the other was an excellent rebounder and defender really hurt them before tournaments.  I felt like they would be 3rd out of the tournament and ended up in the finals.  both teams have overachieved.  Meigs by 15-20 after the 5 starters from Wartburg wear down with no bench.  It'll be close before then.

Oneida - Will beat Grace tonight 6-10 points.  Grace may be physically a little better but Oneida is really hot right now.

Coalfield - will lose by 20 plus to Harriman.   Harriman is just too big inside and Monkhouse will be the one that puts them over vs. Coalfield.

  3. It was a Ho hum game with Us and Wartburg last night.  Wartburg won by 8 I think but it was 15 or better at the middle of the 4th quarter.  I've got to say the Lady Dogs defense was bad in the first half and we took advantage of them.  Had em by 5 at the half, but that's why you play 4 quarters instead of 2.

Lots of talk on here about O.S. and their struggles, I think Wartburg and O.S. are 2 that nobody would want to play in the first round of the district.  2 teams that have high expectations despite having tough seasons.  Looking forward to the tournament.

Oakdale girls have good talent but have yet to gel.  I think our best games are ahead of us also.  It's just a down year for 4A

  4. Here is something interesting about 4A so far

Strength of Schedule so far according to CoachT

    Wartburg 12th

    O.S.         14th

    Jellico      29th

    Oakdale   70th

    Oneida     78th

    Sun          80th

    Coalfield  107th

It won't show up now but I bet teams with tougher schedules will perform the best come tournament time.

  5. As I see it the Oneida game tonight should go in Oneida's direction.  My friend's daughter plays at Wartburg and she said their first 5 is as good as any but they have no bench at all.  They were up by 16 the other night against Harriman and 14 with Kingston but as soon as foul trouble came in to play and Poland and Melton came to the bench those leads didn't last too long.  I also understand they led most of the game with North Academy.  You could argue that with a little bench play they would be 4-0 right now.  But they haven't got that and they are 1-3

If Wartburg was deeper I would have them as my clear number 1 team but as it is now I feel like they are 3rd.

    Oneida 60 Wartburg 51 tonight

Oneida - deep and solid throughout

    Coalfield - 4 returning starters

Wartburg - Good first 5 with no bench

Oliver Springs - extremely well coached

These will be the four that make it to R2A

  6. I'm always ranking teams so here is my first thought about 4A

    1. Oneida - deepest team, can play with anyone.

    2. O.S.- most aggressive team and really tough schedule. Multiple defenses and sound all around.

    3. Wartburg - in a familiar spot solid on offense and defense not flashy but they never are this time of year.

    4. Coalfield - strong team defense and tough kids

    3A

    1.meigs

    2.GCA

    3. Tellico

    4. Rockwood

  7. I thought the freshmen from York decided to go to Clarkrange after July. Practice is against TSSAA rules after July until the first week of November. I know you have not seen them because there is no way Clarkrange would cheat and practice early.  ^_^

    Hmm...

  8. I think that oneida will win tuesday with wartburg but I don't think you will be able to read much into it. This appears to be a classic rebuilding situation in wartburg. I saw them early and they have already improved 100 percent from there. I think the game tuesday will be 45-38 Oneida but you will see that wartburg has the talent to really challenge at the end.

One thing the Lady Dogs don't seem to have any bench and that has to be fixed. The Snows look like number 3 to me right now. Again it's not christmas just yet

  9. Well, for you Wartburg folks, a FREIGHT train is on the track and is LOADED with girls that could play football. She won't get her way in the game with Union City if they meet. Our girls are HUGE, can play, run, run the floor and yes play football so bring it on if it happens. There is NO use for kids like this that is out to "bounty" anyone on the floor. She will meet her match with Union City...just ask the team we beat tonight in Adamsville. Good luck and hate it that the Cosby girl broke her arm. Sports play can be rough but when you add a little to it..no place. I'm not trash talk'in...just telling the trueth!

You are talking out your backside! You didn't see the play so you don't know what you are talking about!

  10. Thats funny :roflol: region 1's top 3 teams would mop the floor with any team 4A put on the floor period. I will give OS credit they did have a stretch where they was phenominal when Christopher and Hall was there dont get me wrong,But I know for a fact this years North Greene and Cloudland and last years North Greene team that made it to the state semi-finals is way better than that OS team.

And yea Wartburg might be able to beat anybody on any given night in district 4A but they wont hear the gun go off against North Greene or Cloudland. Them and Oakdale both play crap teams and Oakdale got beat by a crap team on their own home floor in their Substate game so dont give me this crap about how good Chokedale Wartburg and all these other are because im not buying it. I hope Chokedale loads up that cupcake schedule and them or Wartburg Has to roll into Baylenton or Roan Mountain you will see real some real basketball is played.

Wartburg is one of 8 best! Where is NG again?

  11. Dont pay no mind to superdave he is more than likely some dumb hick from Oakdale who clearly know's the slightest thing about basketball. Cloudland and North Greene are by far the best 2 teams out of both regions period. I dont know anything about this transfer they have except for the fact I heard from a source that she could the best player in East Tennessee. Having that being said I do know that Cloudland returns 4 very good seniors two of them being good role players,Along with 2 stud sophmores Clarke and Wilson. IMO they are clearly favored in single A to go deep along with North Greene and their 2 stand out players Morrow and Mcneese.

I mean Oakdale is not as good as advertised I saw that last year. I mean you got beat by Cosby on your own home floor and Cosby was a "decent" girls basketball team. But its basically like CaptainBillyTyne said when you see North Greene or Cloudland play which if you are as good as you say your girls are you will be seeing one of the two in a substate game your going to get a reality check pretty dang quick. :thumb:

Where are you guys now? Looks like Wartburg is one of the best 2 teams in the Region!

  12. I will bet you the farm superdave that both North Greene and Cloudland will be playing in the state tournament this year. Do a little research before you get to trigger happy on the keyboard. North Greene has everybody back off of last years state runner up team for the exception of Maria Britten who will be heavily missed. As for Cloudland they have every starter back from last year who got beat in the regional semi-finals, but got a 6'2 D1 transfer that I hear is probably one of the top 20 players in the state of Tennessee as a Junior. At the end of the day you shall see I am right.

I want my farm now! I'm from oakdale, but support all morgan county teams. Who's North Greene playing at the boro?

  13. I think Wartburg is a really well coached team and they have won close games. The problem I see coming up is that the post from Tellico will dominate the wartburg post players. They looked really soft tonight against us and didn't seem to want to be out there. I have seen it from 24 all year and can say confidently that big girl from Tellico has got to be really excited to play this team. They got very lucky tonight but you have got to respect a team that goes 20-4

  14. I will take Oneida at Oneida. That's much like playing at O.S. the officials cater to them up there and give them a chance to beat anyone. That said I was at the Oakdale and Wartburg game the other night and I can tell you we saw both Wartburg teams. The one in the first half would have a hard time beating anybody down by 9 at the half. The team that played the second half outscored Oakdale at one point 28-4 and if they could play that way for 4 quarters they would be in a state tournament.

I just don't think they look healthy to me. I see a lot of wincing and reaching for knees on sharp cuts. If you look at their schedule you can see they've played fewer games than any team in the district. I think Davis has been hiding some kids with some dings by not playing as much as everyone else. Tournaments may expose their overall health.

If you look when they had to play back to back they got beat at Greenback in game 2 and lost to O.S. after having a second half lead. Friday isn't back to back and I believe they just might make me eat my prediction but I'm going to say Oneida 40 Wartburg 39 this one ending in regulation.

I believe the district will finish with OS 1 and Wartburg 2 Oneida will be 3

  15. Sad to hear! I hope she is ok and able to play again! Wartburg will probably end up at 3 or 4 though I agree.

Saw #24 play early in the year and she is just an average player. She had a good tournament last year though.

Oakdale's PG is hurt also but I don't think it's serious I doubt she misses any games.

  16. I think that Oakdale will go undefeated in the district and feel Onieda, O.S. and Wartburg will be in a race for 2nd.

I don't know where you have been bballfan50 Coalfield was a coacht darling the past 4 years. People picked them to be a state tournament team 4 years in a row and they only made it once. Coalfield tradition is much like last season. Were better than Wartburg at 3 or 4 positions and lost in the tournament. Better than Oakdale at 2 spots and deeper, and with a D1 Player & District MVP on their roster and lose to Oakdale for the region. I believe that they tend to play down late in the season. Lets not forget their exit in Round 1 of the Regional Tournament a few years ago against Greenback. You are lost if you think that most don't think they should have won much more than they did the last few years.

Coalfield is the #4/5 team in the district

  17. I think he had 14-16 points unsure. and 11 rebounds..I would not consider them a powerhouse, lol,. ( i understand your sarcasm) but as for you saying he would be only a JUCO player that was very absurd, Are you a college coach? scout? played in college?

I haven't played college basketball, played college baseball and I can tell you Fountain would be a steal for a team like TTU or UTC, he would be a great addition to any small D1 school given his leaping ability and ability to make free-throws and mid-range J's. I just think people don't understand that he is still an extremely young player. I've been around many very good athletes in my lifetime and Fountain looks to fit the mold. Give him time to develop and grow, by the time he is a Sr. the kid will be a monster. Wartburg hits a tougher part of their schedule the next few nights and we can see what they've got.

  18. NG isn't unbeatable. They bounced back nicely last year from their chokefest in their previous state tourney, but without britton I'm not sure they'll be in the substate.

It is true I am an Oakdale boy, but I find it really funny someone from the center of hickville that is North Greene. I'd rather lose every game at oakdale than have to go to that god forsaken place and win em all. This will be argued by players on the court. Lots of time between now and sub-state anyway.

We return 3 exceptional players and an excellent coach that has class. I don't think anyone is losing sleep over the sub-state this time of year.

I hope we play cloudland and NG at some point this year

I do believe that Upper East Tn will have a state champ this season. I feel like Cloudland could win it all due to their recruiting ability that TSSAA will not police. Also NG is a good team on paper and could be good, but they did graduate 4 Seniors last season. All I was saying is that Oakdale was the best team in East TN last year and got upset. As for this year on the state tournament ability I think Upper East Tn has a leg up.

Jr. and Sr. should beat Fr. and Soph.

But you better get 4A this year!

Oakdale will be rebuilding some next year but Will return this years 2A MVP and a really sound Soph. group.

Wartburg's roster is made up of 2/3 Fr. and Soph.

Oneida has a great group of Fr. and a new coach - will take time to get them rolling again (but it's coming)

O.S. has an equally impressive Fr. class, and a coach that's won a bazillion region and district tournaments, not to mention sub-states.

These 4 teams in 2012, 2013, 2014 will be fighting it out for two sub-state spots! and I would expect both sub-staters to go to the boro

Also, there is always Tellico Pl. from dist. 3A when they get their act together in regionals are as good as anyone. We beat them in the region a couple of years ago and that was as good a team as I've seen in a while.(upset)

  20. I wouldn't worry about it superdave, district 1 is loaded this year I dont see anyone getting past their top 2 teams to get past the substate.

Dist. 1 is good and nobody has better home court in the sub-state. Last year the sub-state loss by Oakdale was a fluke. They were clearly the better team and will show that this year! Bank on it!

  21. Questions for superdave:

Given the fact that you are familiar with Oneida's new coach....will the Lady Indians fortunes rise this year? I would think it was reasonable for them to finish as high as 3rd....will the new coach get them to 1st or 2nd? Also, are those twins in OS dynamite or will they have to grow another year or so? Wartburg have plenty left for Davis to keep them on top or will Oakdale's post be too much? How far with Coalfield fall? (I've heard off the cliff drop, but Carmen is a better coach than given credit for) I know nothing of Sunbright.....how are their girls?

Oneida could finish as high as 2 or 3 I think. They are young and talented, But they have a good! coach in place and I could see them having much success in the future. O.S. has some good Fr. but I think they need 1 year to grow. Wartburg has more depth at post this year, but I'm not sure they have game-breakers down low. They will go as far as their youth can develop, I see them 1-3 (young kids might do anything).

Sunbright girls played low level competition at camps and lost badly

Coalfield will be better than most expect. They could move into the 4th spot with some luck.

  22. The Oneida girls have to be a very resilent group, especially the seniors. Four head coaches in four years.

I think you will be seeing a different style of bball this year. Very disciplined and a group of well conditioned ladies. They appear to have good senior leadership out of a couple of the girls and a fairly talented group of underclassmen. It should be an exciting year.

Wish Oneida's former coach the best!

4A has IMO good coaches now in place at Oakdale, Wartburg, O.S., Oneida, and Sunbright I think you will see a year that could produce any one of 4 teams as Dist. Champs. Usually when there are many teams in contention it bides well for O.S.

I'm looking forward to the boys and girls 4A season.

    Just a thought,

I think that this is the year that East TN in A breaks through and wins the state title. Not saying someone from 4A, but an East Tn team will win state IMO.
