1. This is really getting old. Last I seen this is a ravenwood vs Maryville topic. Could care less bout schools that can recruit kids. This topic is about the most dominate team in 16 years Maryville against a very good Ravenwood team. If you don't wanna talk bout this game, than stay off this topic! Good luck Maryville! See you all there!

    I could not agree More.

Look, I understand why the private schools want to link themselves with the top rated public schools in the state. Schools like Maryville, Alcoa, etc are what high school football is really about. Community schools where local players represent their schools and community. The community supports these programs and promotes rivaries with other community programs.

The private schools do not have the same connection with their community. If they want to travel all over the country to play like programs.... fine, but why should we care.

If the tssaa ever includes the privates in 6A championships then we can talk. Until then stay off our threads , will you, cause most of us don't give a rats rear end about your programs or what you have to say about them.

Good luck to my REBELS on Saturday.

  2. Have not been here in a long time.

Do not really know any of the Maryville Players anymore.

But I know what this time of year is all about.

To this years Seniors....Keep the Faith .... and have the time of your lives.

Best of luck to the RED REBELS..... GO REBELS.....  BEAT ALCOA

  3. I would suggest that we all stay out of boski's way. My grandfather always told me that when someone insists on showing their stupidity, just get out of the way and let them. You guys shouldn't be having a battle of wits with someone who is completely unarmed. Shame on all of you!

Boski is a very angry person with a chip on his shoulder.....We need to just let him alone.

Maplewood played a fine game, nothing to be added that means anything.

The best that we can do defending our team is to defer to them...They represent themselves with such class and style on the field that nothing more need be said.

  4. Congratulations to you guys at South Pittsburg......STATE CHAMPS 2007... from a proud Maryville Parent.

And as far as a game with us.....WHO COULD SAY.

Hope you win it again next year, good luck. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    RED RED REBELS.............

  5. The still beat Melrose with a below average QB this year.

Hey Leanord.............that "below average QB" for his career is 58 - 2 as a starter. The two loses coming as an 8 year-old. Not too shabby considering he is below average. :P

Our quarterback is much better than average. Average players do not play for Maryville. Its inside - thats where you have to look - and if you don't see it you might not understand it anyway. Our Coaches are Champions at finding players who are Champions on the inside already. They then mold them into what we see on Friday Nights and last Saturday. If all you ever see is Friday Night you will never fully understand our success. Thats why so many can not understand how we win with our "average athletes" . Its not all coaching either...at least not what you see at the games.

By the way, I used to hear similar things when about my oldest when he first started. There were players that were taller, faster, etc - but the coaches knew why he was there and so did I. That is why I love and respect this coaching staff so much and a big reason they have been so successful..they find dogs that have a big fight in them, then they teach them to play with confidence and love.

We keep a copy of "To The Man in The Arena" around. Somewhere next to the Championship rings. ;)

  6. I know a lot of people have done this already but here is mine as well,

I want to say thank you, to all the people that didn't believe in us, to the people that said we couldn't do it, to the fans that had their doubts, to all those in the media that said it couldn't be done, I thank you for making us work harder than we have ever worked before. You gave us the fire and the motivation to accomplish what we set out for. I want to say thank you for the loyal fans that came to every game, to the little old gentleman that could barely walk, being the first one their, and to the all the mothers yelling "common boys" and to all the little kids lining up to give us hand shakes.

I want to say thank you to the coaches that never gave up on this team. That simply out coached every opponent. That spent time away form their families to coach a bunch of boys.

But most of all I want to say thank you to the senior's class of 2006.

Because we didn't have the best QB, the best running back, the best linemen or the best athletes, but we had the best team.

We had the best leadership, teammates, and seniors that I have ever played with.Thank you Seniors for all your hard work and dedication to this team, for picking yourself off of the sandy ground of the practice field in spring practice and running one last sprint at 6:00 clock in the morning and one last prayer before the last game.

I have learned a lot about leadership, relationships and life through this team. I will never forget the way we came together. Because no one but us believed, and that is all it took. I will miss you guys. Thanks for the memories.

Well Said.....We are very proud of you.

  7. If my memory is correct, Cooper only averaged 18 carries a game. Melrose

supporters told me that the new coach changed qbs, and made passing

a priority. If Cooper was on my team, I would center the offense around

him. The speed and strength of Melrose was not utilized to its full potential

    by their offensive system.

Melrose was able to win on sheer talent only twice this season. Some say they lost to Christian Brothers because their new system was not fully developed.

Some Melrose fans think the wrong system was used. I think if the emphasis had been on Cooper from day one, Melrose could have won the championship. Their defense is great. But they were on the field too long, and asked to do too much.

Did Tennessee's great defense win every game by themselves this year? No. Did their offense underperform? Was it the players fault?

Cooper deserved a better end to his high school career.

    Stan,

Cooper was the center of Melrose's offense. He gained over 2000 yards.

Melrose lost to Christian Brothers because they stacked the box and were able to shut down the run, and Melrose had no passing game at that time.

Show me any situation where all the fans are happy with a coach's decisions.

I have had sons on the Maryville team since 1999 and have seen some very good backs play against us. Not one team has been successful, not even remotely, using the kind of scheme that you wished coach Flowers had used. Tim Gray QB with Hillsboro/2001 came closer than any, and that includes the best back that I have seen in my time watching Maryville football as an insider, so to speak...Daniel Bullock/Hixson 2000 now in the pros with someone, I think.

Believe it or not, we see teams with speed during the season..maybe not Melrose but teams with good speed...Alcoa, Central come to mind. Maryville is next to impossible to run wide on with any success. Coach Flower in one of his post game comments said as much. Maryville players may not be track stars but they play great position and they do a superb job of flying to the ball. If a back is looking for cut back lanes or trys to bounce out side...the persuit is there. Running inside is no picnic either...Meet Mr. Tucker and Mr. Smith, and Mr. Jackson, and ETC.

Melrose is a good team with a lot of weapons. How do you fault a coach for trying to make use of them. At the end of the day.... Players have to make plays in big games, and Melrose had some opportunities....Melrose had turnover opportunities..one that could have resulted in a TD. If one of his players had taken a pass for a TD he would have looked like a genius, they certainly have that ability.

I think you should give the players on both sides alot more credit for the game they played. As much respect and love that I have for the Maryville coaching staff, I am sure that they have never called a perfect game, or had a perfect game plan. They do not block, or tackle...our players do.

Thats why the playoffs are the only way to determine a champion. Players decide the game on the field. Maybe Melrose was the better team in some respects, or on paper or by count of players that run 4.5s etc. BUT MARYVILLE did the best job of keeping Melrose from scoring and found enough offense to score more points.

Maryville was the better team yesterday. Our players make the difference with the help of our coaches.

And by the way weren't you a Hillsboro supporter when we played them? And another thing if you are comparing UT's coaching staff to Melrose's you are giving UT way to much credit :D

Congratulations to Both Teams for a great season.....Seniors way to go.

This is the most interesting thing I have seen on this board in weeks...funny.

President Andrew Jackson...a poor speller....said it is a poor brain indeed that can't think of at least two ways to spell any word. :(

  9. Only 5.8% of all high school football players go on to play at an NCAA affiliated institution at any division level.

Any team that has college quality players has great players....

Maryville has a couple dozen players on this team, all classes, who have the ability to play college football at some level...

Give me three or four teams in Knoxville who have more.

You cannot have the success that Maryville has had with just average players.

Everything else mentioned, work ethic, tradition, great coaching, just enhance the program.

  10. I just hope that none of you trash talkers for Maryville have anything to do with the Football Team. I know that you are not players.

You could not have this mindset and be in good standing with our coaches.

Maryville prepares every week for every opponent with the knowledge that we have to be our best, play our best, and give our best in mind, body, spirit or we can be beat on any given Friday night.

Trash talk and dissing opponents does not reflect well on, or represent Our Team, Our School, or Our Community. We are better than that.

    Have some class :D

  11. What's gutsy is all those 3A schools moving up to 4A.  Some of their enrollments are 100-200 students below the 4A cutoff, but they weren't scared.  None of them are even 3A powerhouses.  Now Maryville, on the other hand, well, ask George Q. and Jerry T. why they don't want to play in 5A.

    825331923

In 4A, Maryville only plays one game that requires them to travel outside Blount/Knox counties. A move up to 5A would require more travel..Expenses! That is why we will stay 4A until forced to move up...no other reason :).

You can believe it or not....something tells me that this reasoned agrument will fall on deaf and biased ears :)

  12. Oh my gosh!  Maryville peeps are crazy!  So you are saying what about the field?  What do you say to those bands that have 3 wheelers moving the band things around?  That's just pitiful that you all didn't allow them to broadcast this game.

I heard from somebody close to Central that Maryville was asking for money and CSS didn't want to pay them that's why Maryville decided not to allow them to broadcast this game.  That's just a crime shame.  I guess the Maryville folks knew they were going to get beat this year so they didn't want to world to see the lame side of them.  THat's what I'm going with.. <_<

    825321605

Lot of difference between a three wheeler and a cable broadcast truck.

As for the rest of your drivel......Donkey Dung :o

By the way its... crying shame....Freudian slip I quess :o

  13. The Maryville Central game had been scheduled for CSS coverage, but the Maryville Highschool Administration was seeking compensation from CSS and it was refused. According to Mark Packer the game was to be shown in several states because it was to be a regional televised game but now It wont happen because of GREED by the Maryville folks. Mark packer says CSS will look forward to 2005 when they will be welcomed by the Knox Central administration.

    825321537

Do not believe everything you read. There is more to the story and it is very slanted.

Some of the real story lies in the rub between Comcast and Charter cable, and to my understanding the compensation was for any damage to the field and facilities caused by the cable trucks and cabling crews. <_<

  14. Yeah, if I were a liberal I'd have 8,000 posts because of all the double-talk I'd have to do!

You would stay at 4000....just divide the double-talk by the half truths thumb

  15. BHS,

you caused me to break my word....

YES, YES, YES, for Maryville it is absolutely much more expensive to play in 5A.

Right now our far trip is MoWest the rest of our games are local in Blount and knox county. If we went 5A we would without a doubt travel to the Chattanooga area,(100 miles), or to Kingsport, ( 110 miles), or more likely both.

Read my last two posts. It is a no-brainer for the Maryville AD. We will stay in 4A until forced to move up....It is an economic issue nothing else.

It may not be more expensive for your school because of the number of 5A schools in the Nashville area. But, to play 5A out of Blount County means an expensive addition for travel and every AD in the state is looking for ways to make the dollars go farther, If they can avoid the travel they will.

There will come a day when we are in 5A. Hopefully after all of mine are finished playing. I don't care what classification they play in but, I love not having to drive a long way to see they play.

  16. BHS,

This is my last comment on the subject.

I was trying to make a reasoned argument for why Maryville will stay in 4A if possible, because that is what the tread is about. Look, I know this is the case I have spoken to more than one coach about it.

It has nothing to do with comfort zones, (whatever that is), it is simple economics.

A simple economic lesson for you. Say you have ten dollars to spend for all your football expenses. If you can stay in 4A your total expenses for travel are 3-4 dollars. If you decide to, "Step UP", (whatever that means), your travel expenses now increase to 5-6 dollars of that ten.

Now you have to put off buying equipment, team activities, etc. Because you have an increase of 20% in your travel expenses.

Now your the Maryville AD....Tell us what you would do.

I am not even going to comment on Maryville's ability to compete in 5A. It is a silly argument at this point...there is no point to it at all. We will see in time.

Again BHS make your check payable to: Maryville Booster Club. Hey, start a trend,

fight the nonsense TSSAA system, social injustice whatever

  17. Maryville will stay in 4A if they can...It boils down to one thing....Money!!!!

If Maryville has to move up to 5A that will be great....BUT....We would be nuts to move up to 5A if we are not compled to do so because of the greatly increased travel cost that we would incur. Not to mention the increased cost to the great Community that support the team.

I know that this is not going to satisfy all you roosters crowing about us moving to 5A....but it really is that simple..MONEY...MONEY....MOOONEEY.

If that does not make you happy....call the TSSAA...We are not to blame for the crazy classification system.

High school sports is about local rivalries. I for one am glad that most of our games are local...it should be that way across the state. Why would we move to 5A and have to travel 100 miles one way several times a year when we can spare ourselves the expense/Hassle...to play teams..well that no one knows/cares anything about anyway.

That was one of the best points of the Z-Plan....bring back local rivalries

Hey, if it will make you feel better write a check payable to the Maryville Booster Club and fight this injustice...no contribution too small.

  18. Coach Quarles is a good choice. If you could give it to assistant coaches then Coach David Ellis, Coach Gaylor, Coach Thompson merit consideration.

Coach Ellis has done an incredible good molding his young, (only one returning starter), lineman into a formable unit.

Coach Gaylor has done a great job and had to replace his linebackers and DT.

Coach Thompson replaced his entire secondary except for one. Until the Clinton game they had allowed only one passing TD. Clinton scored three times through the air but we had freshman and sophomores playing.

This year’s team is as talented in many areas as last year’s team. Next year they could be something special. They have shown that they have the heart to be champions.

    Go Red Rebels

  19. What a great day!!!!

There is an October nip in the air, the sun is shining and Kick-Off time is nearing.

High School Football Time in Tennessee!!! I can't wait; I can already hear the drums and smell the grass.

    Can I have a HU-RRAH :D

BTW: Congratulations to the Maryville Middle School Bulldogs for going undefeated this year!!!

    Go Rebs

  20. Some thoughts about our progress and some of the comments:

This team is going through the same growing pains that we had in 2000 except the 2000 team played a tougher schedule through the first 4 games. MW was the first real test for the young offense. The 2000 team never looked like a state contender until very late in the season....Oh, and this TEAM is better overall than the 2000 team.

We did struggle due in large part to a VERY GOOD MW defense. We will see those guys again. But weren't you impressed with the character of the defense and what about that 70 yard drive that the offense put together when the balance of the game was on the line...Very Impressive to this REBEL DAD....against, again one of the best defenses that I have seen besides MW(2001),Hillsboro(2002).

About the option and the quarterbacks:

Leave it to coach GQ and Staff.....Period. Neither Cade nor Alex run the team...I love both of them...they are going to do exactly what the coaches tell them to do and everything else they can to make the team better...OK.
