  1. Couldn't help notice the criticism of the umpiring in some of the other topics. I guess I've done my share of criticising some of the umpiring as well before I became one. That led me to start this topic. Since I am an umpire in this district, I'll leave my opinions out of it but I'm just wondering who folks think are some of the best umpires in Dist. 1.

I don't know last names but Tammy, meduim length curly hair. She is strict but very fair. She got the honor of umpiring at the state tournament a few years ago.

Craig, also don't know his last name, but he knows the rule book and isnt afraid inforce it. very professional guy.

  2. In all fairness to Coach Hardin, it would be hard to get in top form early in the season when some of your better players are playing basketball deep into the postseason.

Plus, IMHO the sharing of players (and the ability to work and practice with them) at EHS does not appear to be handled in an equitable fashion.

I don't have a child involved, but from what I have heard and seen, BB appears to favored in this situation.

Like I said, this is my OPINION.

If I were coaching, I would really hate to start off a season and have only had all of my players, especially key players, for only a couple of weeks.

I agree with that statement, just another reason to not start with a conference game.

  3. Seen the game, Shultz has great velocity! Nothing else I saw, other than J.C. laying back and pounding it.

    Mayhala threw a great game!

Looks like it could be a barn burner between U.C, J.C. ! :thumb:

I was told that Mahala threw a no hitter....Is this true or is my friend just forgetting a few hits? lol

and also...why does Coach Hardin always start out with a conference game?

I was always taught to never play a conference team in your season opener....but then again, I am old school.

  4. Its good to see Johnson County doing so well...They have come such a long way. In 2006 they actually beat Unicoi in the district tournament but Unicoi stillwent on to win it all.

Johnson County has two very good coaches, who have had a lot of patience with those girls and have really taught them the game.

  5. The Blue Devils lost alot last season, how they goin to look this year any up coming players for them.

They have gotten off to a rough start this season, but they seem to be pretty decent.

What about Scott Gibson, the outstanding catcher, coming out from behing the plate and pitching, and pitching well....

If this kid isn't bound for a great college career, no one is.

  6. Ok guys lets see how close we get this year on how the conference will play out. Last year I said the Lady Blue Devils would win it and I am not changing my mind this year. So here goes: 1st place Unicoi, 2nd Johnson County, 3rd Elizabethton, 4th Happy Valley, 5th Sullivan East, 6th Sullivan North. Let's here your thoughts.

    1. Unicoi-will stay there until they run out of pitching so not for a long time.

    2. Johnson County- they have come so far with the help of their pitcher/catcher duo.

    3. Elizabethton- with the loss of a shut down pitcher, I just don't seem them going very far this year.

    4. Happy Valley- Gave Erwin a good run for their money...They are serious about playing this year and have found the heart that they have been missing for a while.

    5. East- I wish this school could have gotten moved into the conference when they had a chance at being a topo team.

    6. North- Someone needs to take over this team and get them moving upward, teach them the game.

  7. Where are all the other Roosters from Elizabethton this year. I need some help crowing about how good our beloved Eliz. teams are. Come on coach 17 and sparky haven't heard much since you sneaked back into town after state tournament.

I don't think Elizabethton will even be in the top 2 this year. They have always counted on their pitching to get them by, but this year they just don't have that pitcher that will shut people down. Kelsey Simmions is scheduled to play in centerfield and be slapping in the lead off position.

I just don't see them going very far this year.

  8. That is ALOT of K's. Very impressive! Finally got to see her play this year. Sure makes it easy on the defense! How many games total has she played in H.S.?

Prior to this year, her stats as follows: Wins 67,losses7,innings pitched 497,strike outs 785,batters faced 1917, hits allowed 211, runs allowed 65, Earned runs 25,Base on balls/HBP 47 Batting Avg against 0.113, ERA 0.352, shut outs 44, this is the stats for her freshman and sophmore year. Still working on Junior year will update as soon as possible. :thumb:

We can't forget about the perfect game she threw in her high school debut.

  9. Chyanne Delff, and Kelsey Peterson for Unicoi, Knocking the cover off it, plus speed. Forgive me if I spelled wrong.Go Lady Blue!

I am SO impressed with Unicoi's freshman group this year. There are a ton of them and just about all of them have gotten varsity playing and made an impact. The catcher has a great arm, and even though she may not be Hensley just yet, I think she is well on her way. Delffs is one to watch. I have seen in her in a few of the games I have gotten to catch and she has true speed and a hot bat. I haven't seen much of her defensively. It gives me chills to see Chelsey Gardner in center field wearing her sister jersey, she has held up strong in center and at the plate. Kaci SIlvers did pitch a perfect game, kudos to you kid. She will be a top contender on the mound, given some expirence and time. Shea holds it down in the box like a champ, this girl has power. I haven't gotten to see Kelsey Peterson play but from what I read, she killed it at the Eastman Tournament, and if I remember correctly this girl is fast. All in all, Unicoi is stacked once again with top athletes and will be in the running for another State appearence.

    With love from Atlanta.

  10. Word down this way is that the team is rebuilding but using the wrong materials. Weak foundations lead to failure.

your only as strong as your weakest link, and if you put a inexperience player in a crucial spot, well that is a unmistakable sign of weakness........

...like putting a coaches freshman daugther at shortstop over an expirenced senior?

  11. Knox Central at Morristown West-

A step up in competition from the Silver bracket at the MTSCA for Central......Morristown West wins going away.

    Midway at Unaka

Should be a good game. Midway in a squeaker.

    Stone Memorial at Unicoi

Stone scored a lot of runs last night. Should have saved them for tomorrow. Unicoi something to 0.

    North Greene at Coalfield

Home field adavantage means less nerves usually so I'll go with Coalfield.

    Grangier at Gibbs

Will definately be closer than most believe....Traditoin moves on and Gibbs wins.

    Morristown East at Maryville

Probably the best game of them all. Broken finger for Maryville means Murfreesboro for East.

you were correct, Unicoio beat Stone tonight 12-0>

Great Great game! Kara threw a 1 hitter and the blue team had 9 hits in the 2nd inning alone.

I'm so proud of each and everyone of these girls!

  12. Unicoi is a tough place to play and the lady blues haven't lost a game there this year and only 1 last year.unicoi will however have to come to play.

  13. Where has she verbally committed too (if she is a freshman, soph or Jr.) or if she be a senior...who has she signed with? I feel confident that a girl of this magnitude will already be gobbled up by the big D-1's ! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

    You are correct!

Her junior year she had verbally commited to Liberty University but then decided she would rather stay closer to home so she signed with ETSU last fall.

  14. If you ask me, Unicoi has lost their drive and spark.

They need to find it and find it fast.

Come on ladies, You have 30 days left, at the most!

Don't stop now! you've all worked too hard to just stop now!

    Go out with a bang!

  15. Erwin played some of the worst games this past weekend. Trust me!

Unicoi rarely makes errors and Kara rarely lets that many runners on base.

    oh but wait.......

    Erwin won the tournament....

Yes, you are correct, Erwin doesn't hit the ball all that well but I can assure you they will be working on tht everyday from here on out.

and as for the N. Greene game, look at the stats.....Erwin one strike out, NG had 16....

Erwin hit the ball but NG made the plays and Erwin did not.

    it happens....

  16. Unicoi county wins the conference for the 14th time in a row.

It was good to see them go undefeated again, for it has been 3 years since they have.

now lets keep the momentum going all the way to the "boro"=]

Good luck in the Mo'town west tourny this weekend!

    Bring it back!

  17. Grainger play Unicoi County Saturday morning, with Grainger's tight loss to Unicoi last year in the regional championship, they must be looking for revenge.

    Any thoughts on this game?

  18. Is there any team in particular you are referring to? I think there was 1 school who had some kind of conflict and chose to forego 1 of their pool games. I don't recall who it was offhand, but obviously someone else had to give up a game as well, so coach thought it best if the host team (Morristown West) was the one, since everyone else was guaranteed 4 games (weather permitting). Make sense?

I'm only seeing one pool game for Unicoi....
