  1. We would like to avoid White House in sections if at all possible!

And your "out on a limb" prediction will certainly have a higher percent chance of being correct NEXT year, for sure.

It is looking like a strong Limb Mr. G

When was the last time a public won the A/AA boys side?

  2. Thanks for the clarification guys. Still not a fan of putting a high school player in that position but since it aligns with whats going on at the top I can understand the change now.  When the younger kids get to the high school age it won't be an issue anymore...hopefully.

I agree Champ, it will be very interesting to watch how players, parents, and referees proceed to identify and see this rule played out in a game.

  3. This new rule messes with the integrity of the game and should be removed.  I would understand if FIFA added something like this and NFHS followed, but I don't ever see FIFA changing rules like this.  I would love to know why this rule was added, maybe I just don't see a benefit that is there.

Side note, I saw a retweet from Nashville United Soccer Academy on Christine Lillys view on Club vs High School and thought you all might enjoy.

  4. Wonder if the TACA folks would ever be interested in working with the THSSCA folks to do some all-star games after graduation in the summer. Could do both a girls' game and a boys' game in the same venue, back-to-back. Heck, TACA could organize an all-star week of football, basketball, and baseball games too to celebrate recently graduated senior athletes from all across the state. Make it a big festival to attend. Bring in live music, have coaching sessions, etc. Probably would have to be in Nashville or somewhere central.

One downside -- college coaches might not be happy.

One upside -- high schools wouldn't have to worry about injuries impacting any athletes who might be about to proceed into a new sports season.

I know that Daniel Gordon at USN has done an TN vs KY All star game in June but with players that hadn't committed to any colleges.  It was pretty cool for those players that could play college ball and didn't chose to or hadn't been seen yet.  He invited a few college coaches out to check them out as well.  I think it's a great idea and for the graduates that love the game, it gives them something fun to look forward to.

  5. Congratulations to all of these girls for making the All Star Teams.

Game is next Saturday November 7th at 2pm at Drakes Creek Park Stadium.

  6. Congratulations to the Greeneville Greene Devils for winning the state championship! Go Devils #5!!!!!!

I only got to see their quarterfinal game and of course the semifinal game against us.  #5 was a special player and fun to watch.  Congrats!

  7. I know the blind draw isn't always the best but it seems it couldn't be any better this year.  It looks as if the two best publics will get to battle it out on one side and two of the great privates on the other. These will be great games tomorrow and ensures a big final match up between a private and public school!!!

  8. CPA over WHH 2-1.

    Page over WH 4-3.

Just Wow!  What an amazing game Between Page and WH!  Hats off to WH and their young studs.  They are a great squad and could be the Public School we have been waiting for if Page doesn't beat them to it.  This was probably the most gut check time game, up and down game, and passionate game I have seen in high school girls soccer.  Both teams played hard and either could have won.  Page scored in the first minute and WH came pounding back with 3 goals in the first half.  Page came back out in the second half with their heads back in the game and scored two with the last one being with 3 minutes left. Then in the penalties you had two freshmen keepers going head to head.  WH keeper is a great keeper and will be so difficult to score on in the next 3 years. The keeper for Page stopped the first two penalties and Page won 4-1 on PKs. Every player on both teams left it all on the field.  Great job girls!

It was great catching up with the WH coach, he is doing a great job out there!

  9. That too.

One thing I loved about last night's game was the atmosphere and the fans.  Both sides did a great job making a lot of noise but did it the "right way".  I don't know the last time I went to a game with that many in the stands for a girls game.  Loved it.

Coach Clapp has done an amazing job with his teams on both the boys and girls side.  The score last night didn't dictate the majority of the game.  For 60 minutes, that was a back and forth match.

%100 agree.  The student sections did a great job encouraging their sides and getting hype for the great soccer moments!  I know it is difficult for high school kids to stay positive in the Page/CPA rival and they did a wonderful job last night, That makes our games so much more exciting! (I heard the only negative fans were Fairview girls that were mad at Page).

Good luck tomorrow to the visor and gum chewing Big G! I will have a nice screen saver ready for you next week

  10. I remember one year we played CCS in the state finals and before the last game, they had a losing record.

It's what you do when it matters that makes the difference...

In 2010 ND had only won 4 games in the regular season.  When they got to State they beat the 3 best teams there CPA, Page, then CAK to win it all.  If they are coming on strong now, watch out!!!

  11. Ok BigG lets hear it. Conditions were less than ideal for both teams.

A 3-3 tie is a good result. I texted KP after hearing CC went down. Hope all is good.

I look forward to your analysis if you don't mind giving it.

Yeah let's yellow it...I mean hear it!  :popcorneater:

  12. Coach Cal sends an email out every Saturday asking the coaches that actually respond to him across the state to send in their top 11.  He does not control the rankings.  He puts down what the coaches send him.  After Page won the CCS tournament in which CAK, CCS, and Greenville all were in, the majority of the coaches still put those 3 in front of Page.  Coach Cal made sure he called a couple coaches to tell them what coaches had sent in because he didn't necessarily agree with the majority vote but to keep as accurate as possible he kept the integrity of the coaches vote and put in the rankings as they added up.  To think any less of Coach Cal and him trying to get as close to an accurate ranking as he can is absolutely wrong.  We should appreciate the fact he is putting himself out there to get the best ranking as possible.  If more coaches that play these top teams across the state would help out it will only get more accurate.  Right now you have half the coaches that have seen most of the top ten and the other half have no clue.  But it is still the most accurate ranking there is for TN high school soccer.  I can almost guarantee that 4 of these teams will be in the semifinals.  I really appreciate Coach Cal for setting this up and of course it always gives us something to talk about.

  13. Update on Indy.  They won the regular season with the win against Franklin and will make Region for the first time. Coach David has done a great job with that group and it is well deserving.  I can't imagine being in that district this year with Indy, Franklin, Brentwood, and Ravenwood which all can beat any team in the State.  In most district my opinion on regular season winner having the automatic birth I would be against but with this District I think it is well deserving because of how difficult it is to finish on top in the regular season.  Great job Coach David and the girls at Indy!  I wish I could watch this District Tournament, it will be a crazy semifinal and final.

  14. This is NOT, and I repeat NOT being driven by private schools.  It is a suggested solution to the conflicts in the fall with the premier league and club soccer.  At this point, it isn't even a "proposal".

For the record, I am strongly against it, for many reasons.

HOWEVER, what we know as high school sports (especially soccer) IS going to change.  What that looks like, I don't know.  And while I might not agree with the proposals discussed, I do respect the fact that we are discussing them BEFORE change occurs instead of being reactive and trying to plug a sinking ship.

Clubs and high schools are going to need to "bury the hatchet" and get along with each other.  The landscape IS going to change, and in order to be successful, there needs to be a healthy relationship between the two sides, and not a "battle for the player" like there has been in the past.  Thankfully, things have changed a lot in the recent past, so I am hopeful that this can continue.

This decision, however, will be decided by the administrators, and then by the TSSAA board.  While the coaches can let their principals and ADs know of their thoughts, we really can't control the outcome more than informing them about what is being discussed.

I just want to back Coach here.  I am a public school coach but started as a club coach. This whole move to spring thing was started by public school coaches and not private. The worst thing we can do is get in a club coaches vs school coaches ego argument and leave out the best interest of the players we so dearly love. I hope that my kids as they get older have the best opportunity through club soccer and youth development to become elite players and be recruited if possible.  However I really hope that they have the opportunity to play for their school and be with their classmates because high school soccer is a great experience.  This will only happen if the coaches work together.  I have had zero bad experiences with the club coaches of my boys and girls.  Those coaches know that I will rest their players when needed (even in big games) because playing ECNL and High School is the best thing for them. My current girls know that on weeks leading up to and following tournaments I will limit their time (sometime not play them at all) and have them watch at practice. These players deserve to play both so I will do everything I can to make that happen for them and keep them healthy.  TSSAA allowing them to play has the players best interest. If you are having a problem with a club coach make sure you are being reasonable. Lets face the facts as well, not all high school coaches have gone through a tenth of the coaching training that most club coaches have. As for the comment I saw about a club coach feeling all big and bad for having a D license, they won't last long in any quality club.

I will do what I can to keep the girls season in the fall and not moving them to the spring but for TSSAA allowing them to play in these tournaments, I fully support that because it is the best opportunity for the players.

I am not arguing with anyone, I hope this makes sense and I just want to back the efforts of BigG before we beat his little private school when we see them next :)

  15. The tournament was a lot of fun.  It looks like Page won it all with 8 points with many teams at 6 or 7 points.  For A/AA CCS and Greenville looked to be very solid and another Page vs CAK match up with all the girls healthy and fresh would be huge at the State Tournament.  I know both teams had 1 or 2 girls out and some very tired girls playing.  CAK probably had the worst end of it since they had to play Saturday morning but Page had to play the 8pm game Friday night which had them a bit sluggish as well.  Throw in CPA into this mix and I bet you have this years Champion.  They are all solid teams.
