  1. Baylor played a very good game and shut out a good SE Whitfield (ga) team 3-0. Curtis Blair has this young team playing much better and is improving each game.

That's a big win for Baylor because I know how good Southeast Whitfield has been in the past and they are having a good season this year. Baylor might be peaking at the right time.

  2. JUST TRYING OUT THE POLL THING, NEVER NOTICED IT BEFORE. JUST SPLIT THEM INTO 2 GROUPS SINCE YOU CAN ONLY USE 12 CHOICES AND 14 TEAMS IN TOURAMENT.

What is the schedule for this tournament? I would like to see who's playing who.

  3. Just got back from CCS and Notre Dame game in which CCS won 3 to 0 and it wasn't that close. CCS is for real and they are well organized and fast up front. Notre Dame nay have had two shots, maybe. CCS is undefeated at 8-0 but they still have games against McCallie and Cookeville which should be pretty good. They also have a district game with Hixson which only has one loss but I don't think anyone is going to beat them in the district. I think CCS and Boyd Buchanan are on a collision course for the Region Final.

  4. was the ccs tournament cancelled

Yes, all the games were cancelled due to the weather but CCS and Goodpasture went ahead and played and when I left with 20 minutes left in the game it was CCS 6 to 0 and a total mismatch. I don't think Goodpasture had a shot.

  5. This game will have some impact on which team regardless of classification will be crowned "the best in the southeast area". This is a big game in the Chattanooga area and thought it could use its own thread for predictions, reflections and good Ole' fashion trash talkin /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Keep it clean though.

I have my thoughts and will reveal as the game nears.

I personally believe Cleveland has the better more experienced players and on paper they should win this game but we all know the game isn't played on paper. Baylor lost a lot of players and I mean a lot but I know know that Baylor will be Baylor and they will make it a game. I am predicting a 2 to 1 Cleveland victory but I wouldn't be shocked at all if they ended up in a tie or Baylor pulls out a one goal victory.........

  6. Will do. I am not in the loop as much as past years but still follow Baylor and try to keep up with the other teams. Yes, I too think McCallie will be the team to beat this year. They have a strong senior class no doubt. I also left out Cleveland and they should have a fine team also with a great senior class. Not sure if Sam Williams played in the CCS scrimmage. He is just incredible....blazing speed. Also, an incredible running back. Not sure why Kerr is transferring. I think alot of guys just get burned out and just want to be a college student sometimes. Can't really blame them either way. I was surprised also about T Murphy. I think that Baylor and CCS will do fine this year as well.....but man do they have alot of talent to replace. Both had tremendous senior classes last year.

I am not in the loop either but I plan on attending as many CCS games as I can. Yes, I can see first hand how kids can get burnt out with college soccer because when they sign you they tell the kids that they own them and really in a sense they do. Playing soccer in college takes a lot of time, more than people really realize. They actually practice more in the so called "off season" that they are in now, than they do during the regualr season. They still travel to play scrimmages and also workout and weight lift everyday. It takes a surperb athlete and student to really keep the grades up and keep the coach happy on the field. Yes, Baylor and CCS will do fine but losing senior classes like they did will definitely force them into growing pains and many lineup changes until they find the right mix.

  7. McCallie, Baylor, CCS, Boyd, and ND as the best teams about town. It's an regular private school reunion. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> and rightly so, they are the best teams in the city. BUTTT...I think Cleveland my have something to say about being the best team in the area.

    Ewww..A SD fan praising the Cleveland program....I feel dirty now. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Cleveland will be strong, they have quite a few club players on the team. CCS tied them last thursday night 0 to 0 in a scrimmage, that kind of surprised me.

  8. CCSMAN...can't believe it is soccer time again. Great assessment of players lost to graduation. As you said Baylor was hit hard with graduation with Roden, Wilson, Smith, Danny V, Davis, and also Carter Paden. CCS was hit just as hard for sure. Both these teams will be rebuilding but will still be in the thick of things in no time. McCallie has a strong senior class so will most likely be top ranked starting the year off. Heard that Carter Kerr was transferring from King College to UTK in the fall. But still with as hard as Baylor as CCS were hit with graduation they will most likely still be top 5 in the area. In no certain order probably McCallie, Baylor, CCS, Boyd and who else? I heard that Thomas Murphy (Baylor's JB Murphy from a few years ago) is the goalie for Hixson this year.

Interesting information you have given me....So Carter is giving up soccer to go to UTK? That surprises me and I wonder why? Also, Thomas Murphy has moved back from one year in Nebraska with his dad and he is a senior at Hixson? Wow, these are some interesting tidbits, thanks for the info.

I heard that CCS and Baylor tied 0 to 0 last night in a scrimmage. I know that CCS has not scored a goal in their two scrimmages but evidently their defense is holding up. Do you know if Sam Williams played? It will be interesting to see how CCS does this year but I think they will be ok, they have a young team but I think they will hold their own against most teams. I think your assessment of the teams in Chattanooga are about right with Baylor and McCallie leading the pack. I do think McCallie will be pretty strong this year becuase they still have a decent core of players that are there.

Jon26, keep me updated on anything else that you hear and I will do the same for you.

  9. Ooltewah played Cleveland as the last game of the day.. We did well to counter their 3 center mids (3-5-2) with our 2 (4-4-2) and only lost the stalement 1-0 when a defensive miscommunication off a long ball to their quick forward (Schroll, I believe).

I'm looking forward to playing them in the season to see what a fresh 90 minutes brings out.

Cleveland should be one of the best teams in the area in my opinion. They have quite a few club players which will definitely make them strong after a state birth from last year. The club players that I know of are Robby Marcum, Sias Reyneke, Chris Schroll and Adam Gonzalez. They did lose a few very strong players in Drew Henderson and Edgar Cordero who are playing college soccer.

  10. As the season begins a lot of teams in Chattanooga are looking very talented, but which teams are the best?

I know that a lot of teams lost a lot of players due to graduation. Those most hard hit of key players were Baylor, CCS, CSAS and McCallie. All these teams except for CSAS I believe, lost their starting keepers. The key players lost are the following:

Baylor - Andrew Roden, Chris Wilson, Kelly Smith, Danny VanValkinburg and Zander Davis.

McCallie - Jesse Morgan, Steve Pollard, Matt Higgins, Carter Kerr

CCS - Anselmo Heath, Evan Collins, Ben Sandidge, Brad Gibson, Taylor Acuff, Randal Ausdran

CSAS - Adam Wright, Duncan Keegan and there are others I just can't remember their names.

I believe that Boyd Buchanan has a lot of players coming back off a great season last year and East Ridge should be pretty good also and I'm not sure about Hixson. Notre Dame lost some players also but I believe their whole defense is coming back with Steve Shipner and James Noblett returning for sure. They did lose Matt Keaney, Herschel Patel and Kevin Abel.

It should be an interesting season to see what players step up and make a difference for their teams.

  11. Don, I did not know that. I do know several girls who have many academic scholarships that exceed their tuition and actually 'make money" going to school. By no means are a lot of these situations, but they do exist.

This is true from what I have experienced with my son. He has an academic scholarship, the HOPE and a soccer scholarship also but he still has to pay for his books and a few other things because he goes to a private school which is normally more expensive than the public state universities. I do not know of any kids who play soccer that have scholarship money left over after they have paid for their tuition, books and housing but I guess it could happen. Soccer will not get you a full ride at a private university, you will have to have some other scholarship money from academics, etc.

  12. He who has the most club players will win.

G touched on the point: that if you look at the rosters of all the "elite HS teams" they are littered with select players. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

G...I did find your comment on player burn out, because of select, interesting. But thats whats so special about playing HS ball. From what I have noticed is that HS soccer seems to rejuvenate the "club player".

I definitely believe the more club players a high school team has the better they are going to be in the long run. They have been playing and training when the other kids haven't and that can only be an advantage. I know my son, who graduated this past year, definitely would not be playing college soccer if it hadn't been for playing club ball. I think that he enjoyed playing high school soccer better because of the huge crowds of his classmates that would show up and cheer him on and also the papers cover high school soccer and club is basically non-existent in the media. The best years that he had in high school was when his team consisted of a larger percentage of players that played club soccer.

  13. I was at that game. You had the ball maybe 10% of the game. Could of easily been just as bad.

BigG, I do need a beating, in Guitar Hero. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Since I got home I've been tearing it up online. haha

Bottom line, we gave up two goals Boyd gave up 6!!!!! CCS has been to the state three out of the last four years...........

  14. I haven't heard much about ccs lately? Been atleast 3 weeks. How have they been doing? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Hoya i was disappointed I did not see you at the game. My parents say hello. Tell your family I said hello as well.

I was telling G last night that if Boyd lost, the series with Catholic would be tied at 1-1. Since my freshmen year we tied you hahaha. Those were the good ol days.

They lost to Catholic 2 to 1 and was up 1 to 0 with fifteen minutes left in the game, I don't think Boyd ever seen that end.
