1. Congrats to Blackman on sweeping Riverdale. Riverdale must get the errors they are making under control. I believe they had more errors than runs scored during this series. Untill they do so these tight district games are not going to go in their favor.

  2. Ive have been reading all the replies on here and sounds like everyone agrees that all the Boro teams have legit No 1 s . Do you think with the goal being to win each series that instead of the usual 1 vs 1 we will see 1vs the others 2 in hopes of splitting the first 2 games? If that is the overall thinking then the #3 pitcher might be the one that will get teams over the top. Also I notice nobody is talking much offense. I think Riverdale should be pretty good offensively this year they have 3 returners that hit over .350 and a couple of other guys had real good summers. Blackman should be pretty good too. Oakland is a year older from a very young team last year so I excpect they will improve in hitting this year, and Siegel always is dangerous. I dont know much about Smyrna or Lavergne but would like more of their fans to let us know about their teams. I think the season will come down to solid defense to win the District. With 3 game series back to back to back the team with the best overall defense should win most of the time.

  3. One of the best and most experienced coaches around is less than 20 miles away. I wonder if Don Rhoton, a former Franklin Co coach is being considered for the baseball coaching vacancy at Franklin Co?

What about Tony Sheffield think he would make a good high school coach has done well in Murfreesboro in the middle school level and is from Tullahoma.

  4. i am anxious for Saturday as we kick off our season with a scrimmage at Franklin County starting at 11:00

You are not the only one anxious for Saturday . I know the kids and all the parents are as well. 1 think I noticed in the first few days of practice is how most of the kids have really thickened up with the off season conditioning. And I know it was just batting practice but watching all the homeruns flying out of the park was sure good as well as suprising to see. Some of the ball players you expected to see hitting them but their was a few that really suprised. As far as the season if all our kids can keep this up and continue to hit the hard line drives and homers we were seeing we might be able to sneak up on a few teams this year. I think our season will hinge on how well the new varsity players ( JV last year) contribute to the team. We have agreat nucleus of veteran players who will hopefully help guide the newer ones. How well our new varsity catcher does will definetely go a long way in determining our success this season. Plus the new shortstop . LOL riverdaleman . I think these are 2 of the most important positions on the field. I think Coach Messer is doing a outstanding job and really look forward to this season. Our pitching looks pretty good , just need the bats to come along which I think will happen.

  5. With less than a month to go before scrimmages start and I am gearing up for some great baseball. I think that this season will come down to whos # 2 starter steps up and has a great season. I think it will be a wide open season for the run to the District Championship. It will come down to who executes the fundamentals the best. Besides sisco and Bowers of Blackman, I really dont see alot of power hitters as far as homeruns in the district this year, so I think hit and runs and sacrifices will determine alot of games this year. All 4 Boro teams have legit # 1 pitchers this year so think the # 2 s and bullpens will be key in wins and losses this year.

  6. Honestly,I don't know much of the details yet.I haven't been able to follow them as much the last couple years.I'm gonna try to this year.

I just know like you heard, the Cavs have a big part of the team returning and heard some talk around town that they have real high expectations this year.

    THE SQUAD /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I agree with you Riverdaleman , It should be a fun year for the Warriors. I think our pitching will keep us in most games if everyone stays healthy. Our defense has to be sound to help us out. The real big question is going to be who will step up at the plate. For the first time in a long time we are not returning alot of firepower at the plate. We need a whole bunch of sophmores and freshmen to step up. If they do we will be in alot of games with a chance to win.

  7. I'll take our 3 - 0 problems with two region shutouts over anyone right now. We have arguably the best region in the state and to be 2 - 0 in the region with two shutouts puts us in the drivers seat. I will agree we have some issues on offense but not a lot of problems. The offense still is out of sync but I would not call it a lot of problems. We had two drives ended tonight on fumbles that looked like they were headed fo the endzone. This game was not as close as the score. Blackman only threatened to score once. Our 3 - 0 problems are not as bad as the two person team's problem north of us.

Riverdale D played a great game. Looks like Lee and McClain are still not 100%. They did not have many carries tonight. Also not having Boykin hurt some. I did like Smiths run on his TD. hopefully he will start carry it more like Thomas did last year. They are not dominating like they have in years past but winning none the less.

  8. Thanks for the update man... I was given info that was for the Riverdale football & Baseball teams I guess they have asked them to meet @ 5:00 for visitation..sorry for the mix up. everyone is so upset & going different directions trying to get things straight just seems impossible. What a tough thing this will be for alot of people. PRAY PRAY PRAY... please everyone... alot of people have been affected. It will take alot of "team work" for everyone to get through this but the "boro" is a great community & I am sure everyone will pull together on this.

I was just at the Doubletree Hotel and they had a nice room set up in there for people to come in and sign cards and a message book for Jordan and his family. Myself as well as Riverdaleman were very touched and moved by a baseball team the East Cobb Braves who came to pay their respects and honor Jordan. It was so awesome to see a baseball team from Georgia come in and express their sorrow and even shed tears with us. This is why I love the baseball community that we are all involved in. Also after Riverdaleman had left The Kentucky Baseball Club came in to pay their respects as well. I just cant find words to say enough about how wonderful it is to see that players and families from these two teams would come and honor Jordan and his family. As one of the East Cobb parents said Not only did the Riverdale baseball players lose a brother but all high school baseball lost a brother.

I agree siegel has a good necleus returning, I also think Blackman, Oakland, and Riverdale will be good as well. I look for some good baseball in the Boro as usual next year.

  10. QUOTE(wingman10 @ Apr 29 2007 - 06:53 AM) 826447794very important win..congrats

Great win last night Warriors. You came back like the Warriors of earlier this season. Hopefully this will give you the big Mo going into the tourney.

  11. QUOTE(davidlimbaugh @ Apr 26 2007 - 09:21 PM) 826446381One more hint on one of the things behind the new calender rules for baseball and softball?

Just about EVERY high school has a football field to practice on and some sort of weight room. Just about EVERY high school has a GYM to practice in.

Only in baseball and softball has there become some 'haves' with some type of indoor practice facility and the 'have nots'

that do not have them. Remind me again of the numbers of each sport as far as when they can be inside their place to work out?????

    Hmmmm..........................

I agree baseball/ softball really got the raw deal on this. My son does play baseball and in a course of 2 years ( one at middle school, the other high school) has gone from a part time player to a starter . He could not have done this without fall ball and his dedication to practice and keep practicing. He has went from about a .200 hitter to a .300 hitter. He has increased his power alot. ( kudos to Coach Sheffield and Coach Horn). And these men worked with him because of the potential the see in him not for money . (They really dont make much in Fall). He really enjoys being on a team and most of his teammates are his best friends so I would rather have them out running on a baseball field together than out running the roads. My son likes football and basketball too, but he knows he is not as talented at those sports, so why does the TSSAA want to penalize these players for wanting to be the best they can be at baseball? It makes no sense but then again are they going to be going to every city in the state to be able to enforce these rules? Will we end up with a split squad with another team? If we do I hardly think it would be teams from our own District. Then you are talking about travel expenses. What about people that cant afford private instructing. Those kids will fall behind those that will be able to afford it. Playing school ball is already expensive enough.

  12. QUOTE(riverdaleman @ Apr 19 2007 - 10:55 PM) 826441565Riverdale gets a BIG win tonight vs Mt Juliet 3-2 with the score tied 1-1 in the 7th Brandon pearl lead of the 7th with a walk (3 of them on the night) then stole second on a ball in the dirt axel watson walks then on a wild pitch brandon and axel move up to 2nd and 3rd then skinner hits a fly ball to right and brandon tags for the go ahead run with 2 outs also axel advances to 3rd then he scores on a passed ball...Mt juliet scored a run in the bottom of the inning by an error and the next batter grounds out to end the game Jordon Henderson had a no hitter til the 5th when it was broken up with a nice base hit then gave up a run and brian davis came in and closed the game

good game tonight WARRIORS see you in lavergne on sat. have fun at prom

    GO WARRIORS

Way to go. Go Warriors. Glad to see us get a big win against a quality opponnet. Hopefully we are on our game and ready to take 2nd in the district. I know we got some tough games coming up but hopefully we now have some big Mo going into those games.

  13. QUOTE(baseball2009 @ Apr 14 2007 - 02:41 PM) 826437479Who are the best JV coaches in Middle TN who have the talent to step up to the next level?

Josh Horn and Travis Wilson are both fine JV coaches for Riverdale. Both are very young, (in early 20s), but the kids seem to relate well to them as well as respect them. I think they are both going to MTSU but not for sure. As far as the next level Josh Horn has signed a pro contract to play baseball. He was the 3rd baseman for MTSU last year. If that does not work out I think he would be a great one. Although he is not a JV coach but is a Middle School Head Coach Tony Sheffield of Christiana would be a great one as would Tobbitt from Siegel High.

  14. QUOTE(olandpats @ Apr 14 2007 - 12:53 PM) 826437416y wasnt the pitcher pulled that kept hittin the batters?

They probably did not want to use up anymore of their pitchers since they were suppose to have 2 more games this weekend.

  15. QUOTE(riverdaleman @ Apr 13 2007 - 10:09 PM) 826437154HE has done a great job over there in fact i saw him tonight...he helped my son out a lot last year he set a great foundation for my son and several others that are freshman at RIVERDALE and it is already paying great dividens and he only coached them for 1 year like i said he is doing great and i am sure it is helping coach powers a lot and i think in the years to come coach Powers will REALLY see a differnce not only in hitting and feilding but the thinking part of the game

    Have they cancelled todays game?

I agree Riverdale Man. Coach Sheffield although new to being a head coach is starting to get the boys at Christiana to believe in themselves as players as much as teaching them. Up untill last year thier really wasnt alot of positive things happening at Christiania as far as baseball goes. The Freshmen team at Riverdale is looking pretty good and I think a few of those guys will help out next year on varsity. And the Christiana Varsity is now 9-2, and their JV is 11-4 so I agree the cupboard may not be as bare as some would think. GO WARRIORS

  17. QUOTE(The Star @ Apr 13 2007 - 12:51 PM) 826436821Mark this down. You are seeing the start of a 4 year decline coming up for Riverdale

I dont think so.Their Freshmen team has only lost 4 games so far this season . They are 11-4. And split with Oakland earlier this year. They have some talent . Plus the 8th graders at Christiania are 9-2 so far this year.

  18. QUOTE(irecnso @ Apr 13 2007 - 11:31 AM) 826436727If you ahve a bad game against a good team, the score can get ugly.

Riverdale is better than this, they will regroup.

I agree I think they will bounce back. Just hope the pitchers have all the wildness out of their system now.

  19. QUOTE(OaklandBasketball @ Apr 13 2007 - 10:39 AM) 826436672To oakland's credit they also took advantage of the mistakes early and broke Riverdale's spirit, not allowing them a chance of any late game heroics. That and Brett Wilson was dialed in tonight, I think that is the best game ive seen him throw in his career, which is a huge confidence booster for him. I think Riverdale will still make a good run in the postseason, but I think this series showed that Oakland is head and shoulders above the rest of the district and that the loss to Cookeville was a fluke

That was definetely the best Brett has throwed. Congrats to him. We thought when he was at Christiana that he would be a pretty good pitcher, but thought that would be for Riverdale. LOL
