  1. CAK 1 Carter 0

    Pigeon Forge 4 Alcoa 3

This game featured 80 minutes of soccer tied at 3-3,

2, 10 minute overtime periods tied at 3-3

2, Golden Ball 5 minute periods tied 3-3

    Pigeon Forge wins in PK's

Everyone was exhausted, too bad anyone had to lose. Both teams left it all on the field. A good soccer match.

    On to girls season!

    :motorbike:

CAK 1 - Carter 0   Great match!  Hard fought by both teams.   Last time Carter played CAK in a Regional Semi-Final in 2009 that match also went to overtime  CAK 4 Carter 3.

  2. I prefer not to have more rules.  There are so many things that a coach can do to keep from running up a score.  Coach G taught me that 14 years ago when he could have beat us 10-0.  Instead he showed mercy and kept the score at 5-0.

    CLASS ACT!

  3. Outside of CAK, Oak Ridge is now my favorite team. I coached about 10 of these boys in club this fall and look forward to seeing them take the pitch with their high school team and Coach Day.

Got to see Oak Ridge play in the Jon Metcalf tournament a couple of weeks ago...WOW! Very impressive.

  4. Looks like we will have about 25 young men coming out for soccer this season. No any soccer players, but this groups seems to be willing to work hard. Had a very good condition period. Really good group to work with. No Marks or Adams in the group.

Yes, Grace is in our district. Really like Coach Bennett Giles a lot! Class act in every way.

  5. Thanks. Good to see that this rule is being eliminated.

“Soft Red†Eliminated in High School Soccer

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Contact: Mark Koski

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (February 13, 2012) — In a continued emphasis on improving sportsmanship, the “soft red†has been eliminated in high school soccer.

Effective with the 2012-13 season, a second yellow card not only will disqualify a player, but the team will not be permitted to substitute for the disqualified player. Previously, a team was permitted to replace a player who had received a second yellow card.

This significant change was one of three rules revisions passed by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Soccer Rules Committee at its January 23-25 meeting in Indianapolis. These changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

Another change in Rule 12-8-1f now will disqualify a player who deliberately handles a ball in his/her own penalty area to prevent it from going in the goal only when the attempt to deny the goal is successful. If a goal is scored, the penalty is now a caution. Previously, a player was disqualified for trying to stop a goal from being scored, whether the try was successful or not.

“Obviously, with two of our three changes this year in Rule 12 (Fouls and Misconduct), the Soccer Rules Committee continues to focus on improving the level of sportsmanship in high school soccer,†said Mark Koski, NFHS director of sports and events and liaison to the Soccer Rules Committee.

The other change approved by the committee involves the taking of a penalty kick. If some unusual situation occurs after the penalty kick is properly taken and before the ball is played or touched by another player, or before the ball hits the goalpost or crossbar, which necessitates a temporary suspension in play, the penalty kick shall be retaken. Previously, this would have resulted in a drop ball.

“As an example, if the ball deflated immediately after a penalty kick was taken and play was suspended, the player now will have the opportunity to attempt the penalty kick again,†Koski said.

Soccer is the fifth-most popular sport for boys and girls at the high school level. According to the 2010-11High School Athletics Participation Survey, 398,351 boys are involved in soccer and 361,556 girls participate in the sport.

  6. Not 100% sure but I believe soft red is 1 game and hard red is 2.

Thanks MVM, I do know that a "hard" red is 2 games, just not sure about the soft red. SEVERAL years ago we were in a game where there was a player that received a "soft" red. The team had to play a man down and the player had to sit out the remainder of that game but was allowed to play the next game. Tonight, a player from the opposing team received a "soft" red. They continued to play with 11,but the center ref stated that he would have to sit out the next game.

Just wasn't sure what the correct ruling was. Thanks again!

  7. In HS 2 yellows equal a "soft red". That player is done for the rest of the game, BUT the team does NOT have to play down. If a straight red is thrown then that team does have to play down. Hope this helps.

Does the player who receives the soft red have to sit out the next game, or 2 games, or can he play the next game?

  8. Knoxville TN....and they should be something special this year. Jon Ragland is a very special player and can really make a difference in a game. I believe the majority of starters from last years team is back.

  10. metcalf 2k11 TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED!

Thanks to all for your patience on the schedule. Took some time but we are very excited about the tournament match ups. Should lead to a great weekend of soccer in the Kingsport area.

Tournament information can be found under the "metcalf 2k11" button on our website: www.dbsoccer.org

Best of luck for the remainder of preseason!

coach Woods and his folks have done a great job again this year putting this tournament together.

  11. G. I have been out of town for the past few weeks (taking care of an ailing mother). I was ASTONISHED when I heard this news.

Over the past 8 years I have come to respect you not only as a great coach but even more so as a tremendous person, one who walks out who he is in Christ every day. What an honor it has been to call you friend. Best of luck my friend, I will talk to you soon.

  12. Friends:

Let me say that Coach Gorman will be missed. He built the Alcoa program and we are all proud of what the program has achieved. On a personal level, I am proud to call Tom Gorman my friend and just as proud that my son has played two years for a man of character. You will be missed coach!

We are fortunate to have Shane Corley to step into the program. Below is the link.

    Shane Corley Hired at Alcoa

Well stated. I have competed with Coach Gorman for 7 years. He started at Alcoa the same year I did at Carter. We have had some classic matches and alway he and the players at Alcoa have been comptetitive and have always played with class. He has become a very good friend both on and off the pitch. Good luck to him at OR and to the Alcoa team.

  13. Chuckey Doak @ Elizabethton

    USJC @ Greeneville

    East Ridge @ Boyd Buchanan

    McMinn Central @ Hixson

    Livingston Academy @ CCS

    Merrol Hyde @ CPA

    Marshall @ Fairview

    Notre Dame @ Friendship Christian

    MLK @ Clarksville

I bet the Chuckey Doak and Elizabethton game will be interesting. Last year during the regular season this game had it's share of controversy. I don't think these guys like each other much.

  14. The Alcoa/Pigeon Forge game should be a good one. PF has very good team speed and good players. Alcoa and PF play different styles of play so it should be a fun game to watch. I have been on the opposite side of the field facing Coach Tom not to know that his team will be ready.

close one with a slight edge to Alcoa

Don Lee is doing an excellent job at Gibbs. They have improved a lot since last year. They have a very good defense and an excellent keeper. This could be a marquee game...could be. Both coaches are close friends and it will be fun watching CAK's attack against Gibbs D. Although my heart will be going with fellow district 3 team Gibbs (sorry G...you know I love ya!) CAK continues to "BEEN THERE....DONE THAT."

CAK has to be the favorite.

  15. Gibbs 1

    Carter 0

What a great soccer game. Who ever said soccer is a boring game because of the low score should have been at this game tonight! Great game! Both teams played so hard and left it all on the field. It was a great game...and I am so prould of my players and how hard they worked this year. Congrats to Gibbs and Coach Lee. Coach Lee is a class act...and has been a very good friend of mine for many years. Good luck the rest of the season!
