1. Clinton has had a lot of issues to work through over the past several years but there are signs of life in the program. They have several quality players and should be able to build on last years progress. Also, the stadium has finally got the much need renovations that it desperately needed. Viewing games under the Friday night lights should be a much more pleasant experience for the fans and players alike.

    GO DRAGONS!

  2. Let's be honest here. Clinton has been looking ahead to this game since the start of the season. If Clinton does lose this one, there will be trouble in DC (dowtown Clinton). Clinton has a legitimate chance to win 4 ball games. If they miss opportunities like this one, it will be just another building block in the wall of shame.

PS: Special note to the coaches.....

A slant or a hot route doesn't require a sideline fade pattern. Maybe, just maybe the offense would open up if we could get our opposing defenses out of 8 in the box. Just a thought.....

  3. One of my favorite parts of High School football is simply watching peoples behavior. Its a game that you practice all year long and for what? 10 or 11 games, maybe one or two more if you're lucky or from Maryville. What's the pay back? Pride, self discipline, conditioning, team work, what????? Let's be honest, teams like Maryville are expected to win. They have the best athletes, the best coaches and a system that functions very well around them. Do I think GQ is a good coach, yes I do but if he had the kids from Clinton, with Clintons AD and Clintons assistant coaches, could he still be a state contender???? To me, football is a reflection of society as a whole. People who gripe the loudest often get front page press. I won't give examples of those groups but for those of you who understand, you probably aren't one of them. If you think I'm way off in left field with that statement, well, well, somebody else explain it too them. Clintons problems have many deep roots. Way way way to many to turn the program around and in to a contender. Let's all be honest here, Powell is down, West is 0-2, Central 0-2, Halls hasn't been very strong by their standards as of late, South Doyle is improving and LC isn't very good (they are the Clinton of Loudon county). Its the perfect storm that Clinton needs to gain back some respect and have the ability to win more that two games. Could it happen, yes, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. It won't matter if two of its wins are against Campbell County and Lenior City. 3 stinking wins...and Clinton fans will be declaring a turn around in the program. Why would any parent in their right mind fight so hard to get their kid playing time, donate their hard earned money to the program, have to deal with a brain dead AD, and do it all for a chance to win 3 stinking ball games. I HAVE NO EARTHLY IDEA! It all takes me back to my first question, why do kids play football? Maybe I should re-phrase that this question, "WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO PLAY FOOTBALL AT CLINTON?"

Good luck to all and for those kids who play it for the love of the game, wins and losses don't really matter, therefore enjoy your time in the trenches.

  4. For me, I say 4 wins max. Clinton should beat Lenior City and Campbell county. Could beat Powell, Anderson County and South Doyle. Other than that, it ain't going to happen. If Clinton goes 4-6, is that considered a winning season????

  5. I JUST READ ALL THE DISCONTENT THE DRAGON PARENTS AND YES THE PLAYERS. LETS NOT FORGET THE PLAYERS. EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS. HAS ANYONE TOLD THE COACHES WE HAVE A PROBLEM? OR DO YOU THINK THEY ARE JUST DOWN PLAYING THINGS? IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THE COACHES ARE THE PROBLEM. THERE IS DISCORD EVERY WHERE. THIS IS THE RESPONSIBLITY OF THE HEAD COACH ANDY STEP UP. YOU FOLKS ARE KILLING THIS ALREADY WEAK PROGRAM. ITS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE CATLETSPROGRAM. PLEASE DONT STAY TILL WE HAVE TO PLAN A FUNERAL.

This is starting to sound like a Jerry Springer Program....

  6. First of all #5 is not the QB yet...Did you see #12...longest TD of the day...the most in a series (4).....don't count him out just yet.....he is a leader on this team and has paid his dues...the whole city of Clinton wants to see #12 get his shot.........#5 does throw it hard, but he is young and needs to learn about "team" first and leadership..... Don't leave out #17 at receiver either.....He can catch as well as any out there....#4 had a great day as did #21, the transfer from Grace.....The kids are getting along great....looking foward to the season starting...

$5 says this is coming from #17's daddy. This is typical, taking the opinion of someone from Maryville (who doesn't have a kid at Clinton) who simply gives an accessment of what he saw on the field and a Clinton parent tries to twist it to fit an agenda. Put the best team on the field PERIOD!

  7. I saw Clinton in the scrimmage against Karns and Saturday I watched Clinton go 4-0-2 in the Lenoir City 7 on 7 Passing league. I sat next to the Clinton sideline and saw coaches and kids cutting up with each other. This happened on the hour long break Clinton had. It looks to me that they get along fine to me. I saw a couple of big linemen show up and watch their team so they can support them. Clinton will be much improved.

The transfer quarterback for Clinton will be a stud. There were 15 teams at Lenoir City saturday and #5 for Clinton was by far the best one there. His arm right now is as strong as Brent Burnetts is. By the time Clinton's quarterback is a senior he will be one of if not the best in the state. He was throwing lasers the other day. Clinton has some nice receivers. #24 and #4 were good. #2 is the best player on Clintons team as a sophomore. Another kid I was impressed with was #21. He is the transfer from Grace Christian in Knoxville.

Is #5 the Stone kid? If so, where is Logan Little going to play?

  8. Comparing like opponents is goofy and here is why. Different coaches tend to manage games differently. Maryville coaches don't intentionally run up the score in any ball game, therefore games on paper look a lot closer than they actually are. Their planning is to beat you, not embarrass you. Other teams tend to run up the scores, therefore artificially looking better than they actually are. Simple fact is that very few teams have knocked them off. They also take advantage of their dominance and prepare the younger kids for future seasons. That's why they are good year after year. Fulton would be a good game on paper and maybe even have a chance to win. This I can promise, if Fulton where to win, it would be called an upset for a reason....

  9. Hearing some defections from your program I don't know how much truth there is in all these rumors but I agree with Rebel it could be another tough year. Its hard to replace experience with youth and fight for a playoff birth and this district is one of toughest anyway.

First off, let me clarify who I am. I went to Clinton along time ago and I live in the community but to say I'm a fan of the Dragon program would be a reach. I simply follow it because I'm surrounded by it. As for fighting for a playoff birth, I don't have a lot of faith. Why you ask, is it because I like to start rumors and such? Am I just disgrutled with the current administration and staff. These are the facts: Clinton's best football years were under the coach Jim Gaylor. He is now at Maryville as a defensive coach. Stud running backs for the Clintons Middle school play at other high schools. Example: Brandon Davis (Coalfield). Clinton has won 3 region games since 2001. The beat West in 2001 and 2002 and they beat Lenior City in 2006. This is fact and anyone who thinks we are on the verge of competing for a playoff birth is just whistling dixie. A three win season would be an accomplishment. Keeping your starting quarterback and running back would be an accomplishment. You can't send out a new squad every year and hope its the one that will push you over the top. But what do I know, I'm from Clinton and apparently nobody from Clinton knows a thing about football.

  10. No negatives about the program for me. Shattack is doing the best he can but yes, the situation is a difficult one. As for me, someone tell me what it takes to run for the school board. I'm feeling a little political.

  11. QUOTE(kingbrian3 @ Jun 7 2007 - 02:33 PM) 826472567Why are all the players quitting?

Boy my list could be huge but it would just be my opinion and who really cares what I think. 9-50 combined records since 2001, that is the history. Something isn't right. Last years team did have some buzz about it but something seems to be generatoring negativity this year. Maybe I should just get used to Maverick blue. They say if you can't be them, you might as well join them.

  12. QUOTE(uprising2007 @ Jun 6 2007 - 10:45 PM) 826472354Yes it's Phillip Hester and many more. Everyone is quiting except for the ones that we were hoping for (the coaches and the athletic director) they just keep hanging around.

lost players: Hester, Fox, Mitchell, Williams X's2, Hembree, Borum, Hood, Hackworth, and more whose names I am not sure of. The list keeps growing.

Isn't Hood the senior quarterback, who through for 1000+ yards?
