  1. Ben Cook from Macon County is a very solid player, powerful shot, good accuracy, good speed. Scored 7 goals this year for the Tigers. He earned all district this year for 8A/AA. His supporting cast has not helped him as much as they could yet. He has some very decent players around him who just need to work on a thing or two to be very good players and help him tremendously. Watch out for Macon next year in their new district, and if they can improve just a little to get over the top.

The midfielders for portland are #3, #4, #5, and #6 and sometimes #17

I was told that Portland scored the winning goal off of a 40 yard free kick that Groft hit that went upper 90 and the keeper could only hit it up into the cross bar. Portland scored off the rebound. I could be wrong. Confirmation?

Yes that is how it happened, Macon County's other goalie is 6'5. Have to question why he wasnt in their. I have heard he is pretty good for somebody as big as he is.

  3. We played Cleveland last fri. nite at the center. They are very good and dont have a lot of weak spots. They are very balanced with a nice post player........athleticism surrounds her and good guard play.. Our team dug ourselves a hole and tried to fight back but they are a very good team. They can beat you with more than weapon. Our team is not as versatile and had a chance to get within 3 points of Cleveland in the 4th Q but we played well. The officials let us play and Cleveland is much more physical than we were and that hurt because we got knocked around. But good luck to the teams that are still in and thatnks for the experience.

Thanks for the info? Cleveland will have to face a very physical team Friday nite in Livingston. So should be a very good game.

  4. What was the score of the AT-MC game last night?

    Cleveland is good...you counting us out sportsmama? /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

no way. I just don't know anything about them and heard last nite they were really good. And I have no idea what that means. I don't know if they play ball the way we do here in the Upper Cumberland. I did find a few articles in their newspaper and they were pounding other teams pretty hard but how do bball teams rate down there compared to our teams. I already know you guys are good and I hope our teams can play with anyone in the state. I believe our score was 38-31. Hard fought game.

  5. Macon pulled out a win tonight congrats girls whose up next?

We get the winner of Livingston and Cleveland. Heard Cleveland was very good. Does anyone know anything about them?

Congrats girls on a tough game.

  6. Sportsmama,

Congratulations on your first round win....Thanks for the compliment on our team. We played JC once this season and lost by 4 at their place. I felt we were better too just not that night as we went 11-26 from the line.

Now as far as the match up between Macon Co. and Avery Trace...this should be a good game. Both are well coached and both have good teams. If Macon can keep the guards from getting to the post, I like your chances. But, if you can't contain #23, it could be tough going. She is very athletic and very good. I don't think they shoot the 3 ball as well as Macon does, but it only takes one night to shoot it well. I like Macon's press and I think it would work as I think Macon's guards are very good, and the press scheme is executed pretty good. Experience is the key here and I think Macon has the edge there. Most of these kids have been together since....9-10u in AAU?? Having said all this, I like AT too and I believe this could be one of the better games of the tourney.

    Good luck to both.

How is #23 built? Is she very physical? How did you guys far against them? Are they as fast as you and as physical? Thanks for the info. And good luck on your upcoming game.

  7. Livingston Middle School won 3-A last year but their 8th grade class has grown and have been moved up to 4-A. So LMS girls will not be defending the 3-A title.. Good luck to ???? 4-A will be tough as we played Macon Co. last night and lost to them by 10 at their place. Macon will be a tough out as they are undefeated and have 9 8th graders and are 7-8 deep and very experienced with good guard and post play. They seem to stay fresh for four qtrs. . Avery Trace in 4-A will be a tough out as well. They have fairly good size down low with one of the best post players the tourney will see in #23 Goolsby. Just watch her. The kid can score and play D. They have good guard play, the point is very fast. Avery Trace is 8th grade heavy as well. LMS will have to play lights out to win as they are not as big as either of the two mentioned. They have speed and depth..but lots of youth. Only 2 8th graders. LMS can play with alot of teams, but they really will need to eliminate mistakes to win. As for the rest of the 4-A field, I have no idea. I do know that either of these three teams are capable of winning it all with Macon probably the better of the three night in and night out.

    BigDaddy,

After having seen both Avery Trace and Macon County how do you think we will match up? I do want to say that I think Livingston is the best team we have played this year and not taking anything away from Jackson County who we have played 3 times this year in very close games. Your girls were very quick and physical and I believe a much improved ball club from last year. And you were good last year in winning the 3-A title, but seem improved to me this year based on the one time we played last year.

  8. In 4-A Macon Co defeated David Lipscomb 38-21

Heard Avery Trace defeated Bledsoe by around 30 points(not sure if this is accurate)

3-A game was Collinwood over Huntingdon. Eventhough Collinwood trailed the whole game until the forth quarter and made a great comeback. They have a girl that is 6'1".

Does anyone know how Macon County and Avery Trace will match up next week?

Congrats to RBS and Celina on their wins earlier today.

  9. Watch out for Macon County this fall. They finished strong last year with a young team. I expect them to be really good. Manhaney may have generated a lot of interest from his second place finish in state last year and a first and second place finish in track. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
