  1. Okay, I think I saw all the top teams play. I'm going out on a limb here to show how much I know about basketball. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" I'll say Miller Grove vs. Krop in the championship. What is everyone else's predictions?

Gonna have to say Krop loses next round to Boyd. I agree with Miller Grove, either them or Bearden out of that top bracket in my opinion. Those 2 and Boyd and Briarcrest are in the semis. By then, its a toss up in my eyes.

On the other comment, the Adams transfer was best for everyone. Adams will get the most out of his potential, which happened in football also. And Odem gets to do his thing, a player I love watching play. Handles the ball on a string, always scores on mismatches, and is money in the 4th quarter. A buddy of mine threw out a theory that it seems silly for Science Hill to feel the need to play up and down all the time. For the last 4 years they have had matchup nightmares, Wattad, Odem, And Adams, but they are never patient on offense to get them into a situation where they can score. There are plenty of players Odem can score on if they take patience. I also don't understand how they run that drive and kick offense when they don't really have any shooters. Thats the whole point of that offense is to get open threes. I figure in a school of 2600 they have to be able to find some guys who can shoot the ball.

  2. Central folks shouldn't worry. They are still a very dangerous team, Brown is their glue man, their MVP in my opinion. I didn't say most outstanding, but I do think they're most valuable, he calms everyone down and helps them get into their sets. I understand Vannoy has taken alot of shots, but he is a shooter, he has to have a short memory, these rough couple of games will lead to his shot coming around. He would not have such a green light if he wasn't a good player. Along with that, the majority of his shots are within the offense, granted, there are a few times he may dribble a bit too much, but I don't think he deserves too much criticism. Central will get better, their showing against DB proved how good they can be, and now that Albright is back, they will have 4 post players who are strong and know their roles. (Devault-scorer, Sturgill-physical,Winchell-Hustle,Albright-Athlete). I am not saying all 4 do not have other strengths, but that is the best thing they bring to the table. Its early, Central will be in the top 5 and that is key, hopefully they can jump into the top 3 because this year the difference between a 3-6 matchup and a 4-5 matchup is HUGE!

I'll say Central by 10. However, 3 of the last 5 matchups between Central and South at Central have had insane endings, the Brown Half court shot, the Crowe half court shot, and the Roberts lay-up last year. Maybe this year will be crazy again!

    Stay injury free!

  3. Maybe so, but it looks scarry. I don't see a leader on this team or anyone that can step in the tough games like Odem at Science Hill does. The Toppers are the team to beat in the Big 9 this year. I don't see DB beating them.

I dunno, Sylvester last night put the team on his back, and single handedly gave them a lead with his steals and hustle. I think if anyone else would have had a good night with him DB coulda pulled last night out. However, give credit to Central for not letting the Indians get on track.

  4. I had predicted a closer game than most, but believed DB would prevail. I was surprised DB did not put up more points especially in light of Sylvester getting untracked. Was Centrals D stifling, poor rebounding by DB, or unforced turnovers ? I can't figure out how Edwards and Adams did'nt take over. Any thoughts? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

The way I saw it was Edwards came out strong, so Central realized they needed to focus on DB's post players. When they were able to double down and Halverson and Mcconnel were having trouble hitting jumpers they basically did all they could to make the outside shooters for DB beat them. Last night, the shots weren't falling, and DB was hurting. Coach Vaughn had a great gameplan for the Cougars last night.

  5. Sounds like a bunch of thugs at that school, and what does it say about the coaching?

Depends on the player that got fouled hard, if it was their meal ticket, sometimes it can be a knee jerk reaction to come on to the court. Not condoning the action, just saying.

  6. I guess not watching any of the Rocky movies growing up leaves me at a loss here. I suppose I'm less American. I can't figure out if I've been insulted or merely mentioned in a back and forth. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

    Ro-cky! Ro-cky! Ro-cky!

    U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

    E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W!

Quick rundown, and spoiler alert. Rocky beats Apollo Creed in Rocky 2, they become buddies, Apollo trains Rocky, including a beach scene where they have a real intense man hug on the beach in Rocky 3 I believe. Then in Rocky 4 Ivan Drago comes around, and Apollo wants to show he still has it. Too bad Ivan whips his tail, tragic ending. Rocky then fights Ivan in Russia and wins, and the Russian crowd turned against Ivan and cheered for Rocky. That was when he pulled the quote, "During this fight, I've seen a lot of changing, in the way you feel about me, and in the way I feel about you. In here, there were two guys killing each other, but I guess that's better than twenty million. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!". That was what rebelrebelman pulled out.

    Seriously dude, watch the Rocky's.

  7. By the way, please tell me you saw the tricitiessports article about SH's win over that Georgia team. The writer almost used the "you got a stew going" quote. He teased us!

I think SH and DB will split games this year. Sounds like each team is very good.

  8. I have the gold around my waist.

I clearly remember making you tap a time or two. Besides, with my perfect jaw line, buff bod, and pretty blonde hair and penchant for beating up sissy boys (you), my Ivan Drago comparison works to a T. You're just a wanna-be!

    HA!

  9. Maybe you should have thought about the people who aren't huge swimmers. But I'm huge on pizza!

Then that makes me Rocky. and Rocky wins.

Yeah but you already used the Rocky quote so you had to take Rocky, at least I make for a great villain and make you cry like a little girl!

  10. Oh, believe me the comedy should be plentiful with the Raiders. And by the way, when did you let your guard down. You were pretty uptight on the football boards. Straight facts, no questions asked. You still provide the information (which is great) but you make for a nice conversation, as well. The lighter side of TCSF, if I may. If I can change...and you can change...everybody can change!!!

And you can bet I'll keep mocking you because I'm your Ivan Drago boy. Say goodbye to your little Apollo Creed lover! (Tricitiessports Fan)

  11. I tried to tell everyone how good the Bucs were gonna be, but nobody listened to me! And normally I feel like dying when I eat Little Ceasar's (don't ask me why I keep eating it) but you're little plug for LC made me want some. Overrooked cardboard, here I come!

Thats not what you said at my Birthday party Mr. Brag about eating 17 slices!

  12. 11 rebounds is nothing against Central, especially with Albright out. 5 steals is nothing with how out of sync Central's offense was. He didn't have a bad game, obviously, but the box scores are misleading. Odem was certainly active, but he was picking on guys shorter than him, and not that much bigger. I wrote that Devault was the best player on the court last night, but he didn't get 1/3 of the touches Odem did. Odem just didn't look like a player I want being named the best in the conference. From just last night, of course.

I bet that is one of the best stat lines that has been put up against Central in the last 5 years. Coach Vaughn is usually pretty good at stopping one player if he has too. And this team is taller and has more length than Central teams of the past. I am just saying, even going into this year, I expected Odem to quietly control games and be successful. Take what the defense gives him, and he will have his nights where he is on fire, but even when he is off, like it sounded like he was, he has a solid game.

  13. Everyone is saying Odem didn't look that tough, but looking at the box scores, 21, 11, 5 steals and 4 assists sounds pretty tough. If everyone is saying he played bad, then on a good night he might be scary. Plus, if you can get 11 boards and 5 steals you are affecting the game a lot, which is the kind of stuff good players do, if their shot is off, they find a way to contribute.

  14. Pretty sure Patrick Albright did break his hand. Very unfortunate, but will give the young guys a chance to play. Taylor Winchell will get some extra minutes and so will Cody Hyden. They get used to the prime time, so when Patrick comes back, they will be running on all cylinders. Will hurt them in rebounding though and depth. Sturgill will also have to step up. Gotta pick the Hill in the first game. But should be fun regardless. I'll say,

    SH-75

    SC-69

  15. So did you happen to watch the whole game? Falcon player had to come out of game because his strings were hanging out of shorts. Thats when it all started and ended for them. Clock was running during free throw shots. Gotta love that home cooking from Unicoi Cnty. Unicoi fans were appaulled by rec. league refs they had that night. And Floor get out of the past you have been ranting on this subject of rough players for way too long. You are BORING us to death!

Its pretty cool Dale Earnhardt Jr. Plays for you all

  16. Who knows who the next UT coach will be. I still think we can lure Butch Davis, looks more and more like Bryan Kelly though. And I agree, my dream is to get a job at Maryville and watch that man coach, and then try to go somewhere and blatantly copy him! He's like Coach Taylor on Friday Night Lights or something, I can't believe a College team hasn't offered him some sort of job.

  17. South, you have so much to be proud of. You have represented the MLC so well over the past 4 years, I can not put it into words. Greeneville, best of luck against Maryville, South had their shot last year. Now its your turn. No turnovers and a couple breaks and good playcalling at the right time and there is no reason you can't make something special happen. JDRebel, just work on your resume' and get ready to be a linebackers coach somewhere cool, everyone knows its gonna happen.

Good luck next week Greeneville. Once again, congrats to South, as a fellow county boy (Central) I have nothing but respect for you guys, I hope we can one day be a program at least somewhat like yours.

  18. What is the deal with East having only 9 players? I thought they would compete, but they are gonna be hurting. They have a small point guard who will get trapped, and wing players who shoot the lights out but struggle to make their own shot. Dyer is a great coach though, they will still be competitive. I still think they will beat crockett and split with Boone, Volunteer, and South. My predictions go as follows.

    1.DB

    2.SH

    3.Central

    4.Tenn High

    5.Volunteer

    6.Boone

    7.South

    8.East

    9.Crockett

    POTY-Justin Sylvester

All Conference 1st team-Josh Odem, Corey Young, Ashlon Adams, Tyler Devault, Nick Jones.

    Best of luck to all /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  19. I agree ..I think central kinda got shafted. What were they 3-4 students over the cut off ?

Indeed. Biggest 4A school has 1065, smallest 5A school has 1067, Central is the second smallest 5A school in the state with 1069. I am hoping for the best over there, but it might be a rough 4 years. Hopefully its only 4.

  20. I think they should have left it along. It makes a lot of sense that what ever DB and SH do will matter to a school in the 5A class next year, and vice versa.I don't see any good for either of our teams on most friday nights. If a smaller school beats DB or SH(and it will happen},it's funny and great for the small school. If DB or SH win by 50{and it will happen},then they are big bullies. The TSSAA has just out smarted theirselves on this one.

This theory really isn't that crazy for the rest of the state, but up here it looks ridiculous. Every other area has multiple big schools with similar numbers that they will beat up on each other and the best teams will come out. We on the other hand, just have 2 enormous schools who are gonna beat up on everyone but themselves. Basically, there will be many games where the players are just going out there to not get hurt. I hate it as a Central fan because we schedule 5 losses, 4 at the best, without even playing a game. I hope that we can get people like Unaka on our out of conference games and then be able to clip Crockett, Volunteer, and Boone occasionally and win 3-4 in the next 4 year stretch.

  21. If I was any team in this area, like Unicoi, I would like to hire an assistant coach from South that is ready to be a head coach. It is clear, at least to me, that Carter is the best coach in the mountain lakes, and they are always the most prepared, and seem to be the biggest, strongest and fastest, meaning they have successful off season workout programs also. Unicoi should have very high expectations moving down into that new division. If they schedule non conference games they can win and get the right coach in there then I would see no reason why they couldn't finish .500 or better for a few string of years.
