  1. You are probably more spot on with your brantley pick than I am with Marion County and Hubbertville. They arent traditional powers but I think they have made a lot of strides the last couple of years and just thought it was time to take a chance on them.

  2. I knew they lost a lot of players, but had no idea bout the coach. I think a lot of times you see in highschool, especially with smaller classes, if a team has success, the young kids get to play more and gain more confidence not to mention they learn how to win, which was a lot of the reason I had them up there. But without the coach, that is a big deal.

  3. That does seem to be the case. I think Deshler drops off a bit this year. I really think Brooks will win that region, but I got to see more on the field first. Preseason rankings are generally just mostly last year with a small mix of knowledge about the teams this year.

  4. This is based on the little I know about the teams this year and the little I have heard from different people. Lots is based on last year and what I know they have coming back., This is just speculation, so dont get all tore up.

    1.) Sweet Water

    2.) Linden

    3.) Lynn

    4.) Maplesville

    5.) Addison

    6.) Parrish

    7.) Marion County

    8.) R.A. Hubbard

    9.) Hubbertville

    10.) Cedar Bluff

  5. Sheila,

As you well know, having your own site, you can not control everything on the internet even your own site. I am sure Coach and Bradley are taking precautions to stop any nefarious acts from happening on this site, but sometimes things happen. It really does not reflect bad on the site, as this does happen on the internet. YOu did what they need you to do, bring it to their attention. The matter will be corrected, if it hasn't already, I am quite confident.

  6. My guess

    Sweet Water 42 Hubbard 17

    Leroy 14 Reeltown 12

    Leeds 56 Hamilton 35

    Thomasville 21 Deshler 10

Briarwood Christian 17 Spanish Fort 7

    Daphne 24 Hoover 20

But I think all games could be toss ups other than 1A and 3A. Leeds and Sweet Water are both just machines right now. I would give Hamilton a punchers chance just because they do have such a prolific offense.

  7. Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!

Maplesville, gone. Addison, gone. Best 1A football played in Marengo County. Don't think anyone doubts that the trophy will come to the South (Sweet Water or Linden).

I will give you props for crystal balling the whole play-offs from the start. Took some guts.

How are you doing in the other brackets? How do you feel about your picks? Will you try this again next year?

    Go, Sweet Water Bulldogs!

Yeah I always try it. I was two of four in my final four picks, so I am ok with that. I dont think anyone saw Parrish coming. Heck, weren't they 0-10 last year? Or maybe two years ago.

    I got

    1 of 4 in 6A

    1 of 4 in 5A

    4 of 4 in 4A

    2 of 4 in 3A

    2 of 4 in 2A

So I predicted correctly 50% of the final 24 teams. Not too bad. Could've been better.

  8. SOUTH BRACKET:

American Christian (11-1) at Elba (11-1)

    Cottonwood (12-0) at Leroy (11-1)

    NORTH BRACKET:

    Sulligent (10-2) at Lineville (9-3)

    Tanner (11-0) at Reeltown (11-1)

  9. Sweet Water wins it all. I'm callin it right now. :roflol: HaHa....I just wanted to see if I could post on here, but seriously Sweet Water wins it all.

Their D looks really good right now. I think this ST Jude game is going be a good old fashioned slobber knocker... should be interesting. I still stay SWHS by 13

  10. Westminster Christian is the surprise team in the whole state not just 2A. Coach Stephen Hooks deserves coach of the year and its not close. 10 total wins in the programs history to 10 wins (and counting) this year.

Quite possibly. They have been much better than I expected. Although I will admit, almost all season I had them ranked between 12 and 15, just never quite got them to the top 10 level. I do think Lexington losing their starting QB did hurt them drastically against Westminster.

And I would contend this week that Sulligent should handled them. I'd say about 34 to 28. However, the road could be shaping up right for West. This sulligent team has been embattled all year with the problems facing their coach. Could be a good time for Westminster to meet them.

  11. Well I think, as you see by my picks, St Jude will be ousted in the 3rd by your SW bulldogs. I think SJHS wins big over Keith in round 1. If I had to pick a score.... 39 to 7.

Then I expect them to rematch with Autaugaville in Round 2 which should be a good one, but I would think a similar score as last time.. maybe 21 to 12 this time. Then I see SWHS being just a bit too much on the ground for SJHS. With that score being something like 27 to 14.

  12. Been getting a "server name does not match host name" security warning when coming on to CoachT. You might want to have that checked. Someone may be trying to hack or damage your site.

Let's just talk about the No. 1 ranking. I really don't care if Sweet Water is no. 1, though you may not believe that. I do care who the no. 1 team is and how that pick is made.

You say you go by: "Sportswriters polls, Talisman, YRatings, CoachT S/S" and your opinion.

Let's look at them. Sportswriters polls: St. Jude is no. 9; Talisman: St. Jude is no. 5; YRatings, St. Jude is no. 7; unapproved website, St. Jude is no. no. 6; CoachT S/S: St. Jude is no. 6.

There are a whole lot of teams ahead of St. Jude.

It takes a lot of "opinion" to jump them from their average ranking of around 7 to no. 1. On what do you base your opinion? That's where I'm confused.

"consistency, achievement and how they are playing now" St Jude is 9-1, They have not lost since the first week of the season to a decent (allbeit schitzo 3A team), they have played great defense all year (i am a sucker for defense.. based my Buckhorn love a few years ago on defense solely), and they are playing tough right now, shutting out some good teams and holding offenses in check. That combined with the other rankings of other sources, and the losses of other schools and/or performances of other schools (I will admit I was shocked with how Leroy handled SWHS as I dont think this is the strongest leroy team we have seen recently), thats put them up to #1 in my ranking.

  13.

If you cannot defend your rankings or picks, then I understand. Just "going by the gut" is one way of doing it. I like to combine gut and reason and I think you do, too. But, you seem to retreat to the "it's just my opinion" argument. I cannot understand why you would just shut down the conversation. I don't think that's a good way to run a forum.

I'm a Sweet Water fan, yes. And when they lose I am the first to congratulate the winner. This year that list includes your pick for 4A state champion.

So, is this the last post in this thread? Or do you want to talk about it some more?

I have never said "its just my opinion". I have stated to you, IN DEPTH, how I come up with my rankings. Let's refresh shall we....

I think rankings award achievement, consistency and how a team is playing at that specific time. When coming up with my rankings I think of all three of those things and I also think with my personal opinion on who I think is better, but I also take into account numerous other sources, Sportswriters polls, Talisman, YRatings, CoachT S/S. I have said this numerous times. Yet you still seem confused and quite frankly, it's more because Sweet Water isn't number 1. I am not attacking you. I can't help it that you see it that way, but that's the crux of the argument. Has been since day 1.

Now with that being said, I will again state that my rankings don't necessarily represent how I feel about each team head to head, mano e mano, or whatever other term you want to use. When the brackets come out, I sit down and look at each individual matchup and how I think it will play out. I don't say "Well I have St Jude #1, so I will just pencil them in as the winner." That's a lazy approach and it doesn't tell the whole story.

I tried to give an equivalent in College Football to explain it, but that apparently did not resonate.

No one is running from the argument. I have, for weeks now,(check the record) tried to explain to you the difference and the things I use to come up with my rankings. If I were running from the argument I would simply say what you said I said "just my opinion", which I haven't. In fact, the only time I have stated that is when I open my rankings because I want to hear others opinions. I have always explained my position when you ask or heck if anyone else asks for that matter.

It is fairly short sighted of you to even assume as much when I have spent a large majority of my posting time here answering your questions and your doubts about my polls. Running from the conversation? Really? You may want to think about that a little more then get back with me.

I appreciate your posts and I enjoy our banter back and forth, but don't think I will just sit back and be ho-hum and not defend things that I have already explained time and time again especially when you continually call my process into question.

I have stated before that 1A and 6A are the two classes that I know the least about and dont work out as well with my rankings system, but I still stand behind the rankings, but that is not necessarily how I think it will play out.. again that's just lazy IMO.

  14. 1A

    1.) St. Jude (9-1)

    2.) Maplesville (10-0)

    3.) McKenzie (9-0)

    4.) Linden (9-1)

    5.) R.A. Hubbard (9-1)

    6.) Cedar Bluff (8-2)

    7.) Hackleburg (8-2)

    8.) Sweet Water (7-3)

    9.) Parrish (7-3)

    10.) Donoho (8-2)

My bad... above are your final rankings. And they make less sense to me than the week 10 rankings. So you award season achievement and consistency... Your rankings, then, don't have much to do with projecting winners. And the best teams (higher ranked teams) are going to lose to lower ranked teams for what reason??? I know you have told me, but I still don't get it. Your rankings are popularity contests? I'm totally lost...

If it were a popularity contest, it would be Sweet Water #1 (since they get more pub than any 1A team in the state).. and lets face it, they could be 0-10 and you would want them #1 in all polls. Thats the real crux of the argument here, that I do not have them #1.

I cant explain it any further than I already have and I really dont have to or care to. But I will say this, if I were voting in the AP poll for college football, I would have Boise State at least #3, if not #2. But if they played, say Iowa (who I would have probably 10 or so), I would pick Iowa. I simply like the matchup for Iowa.
