  1. I know people are gonna pick clinton to get whooped without Hazelhurst, BUT I say after what I seen Friday, Clinton will win by 3! Weston's backup looked pretty good, he had 135 yrds after weston went out right before halftime!

I was really impressed with the tone of this thread after the game. Oak Ridge folks were very congratulatory and I thought really set a good example.

My perspective is that there is plenty of talent on this team. 2 years ago, I would have predicted this team to go to state. It could be that all of this controversy has seeped into the chemistry of the team, let's face it, parent's pick sides and that filters to the player. From what I hear there is controversy even in the booster club.

But, I will tell you that these boys are working hard and my message to them would be to ignore most of this stuff and play the game that you love.

  2. What? !!!!are you saying we lost because Brady Reed threw bullet passes, but our recvrs missed them, because of bad lighting? Everybody there knows why we lost,PERIOD!! The only good thing about any of it was our defense did not give up a TD,for the 4th straight game. They played thier HEARTS OUTS!!!they were on the feild almost the entire game, because our offense was HORRIBLE!!!!,our punting wasn't very good, our punt returning was HORRIBLE!!! Maplewood gave us several GIFTS from GOD(all those turnovers)and what did we do with them....3 and OUT!!! TOP to Bottom, the Ooltewah owls were not ready mentally for this game, for whatever reason.Maplewood did nothing fancy and won.We looked awful!!! I've got to go apologize to my grandmother for setting up her internet to watch this crap!!!!! /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

And while you are apologizing to her, maybe you could apologize to your own team for the tone you have used here, remember these are teenagers.

  3. I was told about this sight the other day and was even asked if I had posted anything on it. After reading these comments, I am utterly amazed, shocked and truthfully disappointed that a bunch of grown men and/or women use this venue to bad mouth and trash our town, our team, our coach, our staff and one another. What a fine example is being set for the youth of our community. I am not always happy with the way things are done by others and sometimes I am a disappointed fan, but to speak in a public setting such as this with the tone and terminology towards others such as I have read is not only rude, wrong and unfair it is a bad example as well as chicken you know what since none of you say who you are. That right there tells me that you know what you are doing is wrong. But this I know…. What is done in secret will be revealed. Light always outshines the darkness and truth always reveals itself. I for one am not going to hide behind a blogger name because I am not ashamed of what I have to say.

As for the so called incidents that have happened, especially the Clinton vs. OR on our home field. Let me just ask all of you this. . . “Were any of you on the field?” No wait, let me say it another way. . . “Were any of you on the field, standing beside Coach Stevens when things were supposedly said or done?” I don’t think so! Do you want to know why I can say that, because my husband was! Scott Jenkins was on the field beside Coach Stevens that night and I was on the field within eye sight of them. Not only did the Clinton Parents set a bad example by marching on to our field, heading towards our goals posts to cost us yet another dollar if torn down, the Clinton Coaches started the bad mouthing, finger pointing and blatant threats toward Oak Ridge! One Clinton coach that used to work out at the Paragon with my husband called him out by name telling him to bring it on! It was at that point that I spoke up myself yelling “Do what’s right, hold our boys back, do not retaliate or respond to them.” I then turned to other OR Parents and yelled “Help Get Control!” I am utterly amazed at all the innuendos that have been made about this incident especially from those who could not possibly know the facts as they don’t even live here in Oak Ridge - Shame on you!

In reviewing this site, it appears it to be a great sight to keep up with schools and stats from all over our region but thanks to the negative, bad mouthing, name calling Oak Ridge Crowd it has been tainted to be a mudslinging forum! Come on people, grow up! Talk facts not fiction. Talk stats not static!

And in case you forgot. . .

"Winning does not take place in the public's eye, but in the sweat and passion one displays.”

As far as I can see, weather we are 8 and 2 or 2 and 8, our boys who passionately sweat it out week after week, year after year, as coaches come and coaches go, as supporters moan or supporters clap. . They are winners!

In addition to bad mouthing and name calling, I would say that Threats are also un-called for! Memo to hubby!!

  4. Speaking as someone who can definitely feel your pain, let me give you OR fans some advice. In 2007, the DB faithful had to endure the most inept offense that we have seen in Kingsport in decades. And as we struggled through the year, everybody wanted to blame somebody for the problems, whether it be the Head Coach, the assistants, or the players for their lack of commitment. But after all the dust had settled and the last game was played, it became apparent that what we had just experienced was actually due to none of the above. Quite frankly, we fielded an offense that just didn't have that much talent. OR is like Kingsport in that you are just not used to having "down years" and it's a hard pill to swallow. But you have to be careful not to throw out the baby with the bath water. My advice is to just grin and bare it. If you do things will get better.

Good Call - Blame the kids!!

  5. Please don't compare that team with the 96 team. I don't know how you could. OR has not seen talent like that team since they left. Gipson, Bohanon, McCadley were very gifted. Now debate all you want, but Spurrier did not fly into Oak Ridge to see Booker or Gulmire. He came to see the playmakers, Mike Gipson, Shawn Bohanon, and Jason McCadley. Joe Gaddis and his staff couldn't bring it home that year, does that make him a bad coach? Ask Henry County how good of a coach they think he is. Get off Coach Stevens' back, he has more state championships than you. OR has it's coach, get behind him, or go somewhere else.

I think Govolsknox's post was very much on target with everything.

  6. Ever think it may be because he does NOT want it to happen to some other kid? That was my take on Old Dad's post. I for one hate it for the family but if it is the supers fault by his decision then he is the one that needs to be removed.

Ole Dad, I understand what you are saying. It is because you feel that this tragedy could be repeated that you bring it up. Nobody hates the superintendent, at least I don't. I just believe his decision was a huge mistake as do many others. If you live in Oak Ridge and see the small kids running across 4 lane highways early in the morning in the dark in front and behind your cars you would understand. Let's stop attacking him for speaking the truth and talk football.

  7. It's a shame that we don't hold up the real "heroes" of our society to come and speak to our youth such as some of our brave military who risk so much so we can sleep sound. Instead, we look to someone who is paid millions to play a game and yet still can't keep out of trouble. I know it takes hard work and discipline to become a pro athlete, but until Mr. Jones can demonstrate that he has turned his life around, he is not fit to counsel our youth.

  8. Thank you, OakRidgeCat, for setting the record straight on the loss of a precious life. You know what they say, "You can't fix stupid". Also, ORcat14, Mr. Bailey and Mr. Helton were not in the same position, did not have the same duties. Bailey is the superintendent, Helton was the AD and assistant Principal. They were and are totally different. One was involved in the day to day operation and one is not.

Apparently, you can't fix "rude" and "ignorant" either.

  9. The issue of the loss of a young promising life cannot be laid at the feet of the school board or the superintendent. That event was a tragic accident period. Where the student was killed was not the path to or from her home, the student was not acting recklessly, nor was the bus driver. The student fell off her bike, from a sidewalk, and was thrown under the bus, a tragic accident, but an accident none the less. Had there even been bus service to her residence at the time does not guarantee she would have been on a bus anyway. Losing a child is the hardest thing any parent can endure and does not deserve to have the issue bought into arguments such as this. Making irresponsible comments about this event to try to give support to your dislike of either the board or the superintendent is wrong. You may not like the coach, the board, or the superintendent, but using this as part of your argument is at the very least poor judgement. I support your ability to criticize any one you wish, but do so in a sane, intelligent, manner.

Well, we will have to agree to disagree on this one. The reference to the accident was in response to the post above me about it and I was pointing out that the admin. has not responsive to the public on several things. The bus service issue is obviously in my mind the most critical and urgent.

  10. At least the Oak Ridge Superintendants previous decisions, current apathy and lack of concern for OR football and it??™s coaching staff hasn??™t gotten anyone killed yet like his decision and support to eliminate buses within a mile of all schools did. It appears from the paper that his decisions are now being questioned on several fronts and a rally could be underway to eliminate him. Maybe the new superintendent will have a better handle on the community??™s wants and needs.

    Ole Dad

I agree that their are many deficiencies in the OR football program. I'm not sure that all of them are attributable to the head coach. For example, last year when the quarterback broke his thumb courtesy of the asst. coach. I think they would have had a much better season had that not happened. I imagine that really messed things up, college-wise for the QB. But, as a whole, it doesn't appear that the team is operating well as a unit.

I don't understand why you pick a selection committee and then totally disregard their recommendation, like they did when Stevens was hired. By not using the committee's recommendation and going with somebody else, sets up a situation where people want him to fail because he wasn't their pick.

As far as the superintendant, he seems to be disregarding the community on a couple of fronts. I can't figure out why people aren't just freaking out about this walk zone issue. I can't believe that he hasn't totally reinstated bus service to everyone. What are they waiting for, someone else to get killed?

  11. South Panola High School, Batesville, MS, 5A powerhouse.... 75 consecutive wins, longest football winning streak in the nation at any level. They won the North MS 5A crown last Saturday. In that game last Saturday their starting RB (Tig Barksdale, Ole Miss commit) rushed for 399 yards and, on defense, he took an INT back 74 yards for a TD. He accounted for almost 500 total yards by himself. They went on to destroy their opponent (Olive Branch High School) and won the MS state 5A title last night for the fifth straight year (28-21 over George County). They were featured at halftime of the NFL game on NBC tonight. This is a juggernaut that is currently the best football team in the state of Mississippi on any level and easily the best in America on the High School level. They could easily beat any of the college teams in that state, except maybe Ole Miss or Miss State....maybe.

They currently have 8 starters committed to play D-1 ball and 5 Juniors who are significant contributors, including their starting QB. I think they would easily win the national title. I can assure you that you have never seen anything this good in Tennessee, or anywhere else in High School football.

There is a team from Calif. with 149 consecutive wins and a team from NC with 109.

  13. No acctually i dont get your drift what is it you are trying to tell me...

What I mean is if I were the DB's coach, I would read that post that got everyone from DB so annoyed to my players in the locker room before the game. I bet it would give them that extra somethin, somethin to do the job at hand. If you get my drift...

  14. DB does not deserve respect no-ofense but theyve lost to 3 teams that farragut has beaten i personally give no credit to sensabaugh he has nothing on sterling. it will be a good game but farragut will drop the anchor with a big W once again.

I would be careful what you say, unless you want to be responsible for that extra bit of "motivation" for DB. Not that they need any more, but you get my drift.

  15. Cut it out guys. I'm sick to death of it. Thanks to those taking up for me. I'm gonna give football fan99 the benefit of doubt. He's trying to be nice with his comments. We should be nice too like our mommies and daddies taught us. Let's leave the Ooltewah poeple alone with the comments about how bad we are, ok footballfan999??? I would appreciate it very much and I thank you in advance for your kind heartedness. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

In the words of somebody who had a minute of glory........."can't we just all get along?'

Yes, we can. I will say I know my comments earlier in the season were not popular here, but if you don't think that I had the best interest of ALL concerned, then you don't know me very well. And I truly was just ribbing you in a good natured way before about the socks. Maybe, everyone is too sensitive though and I'll knock it off..

  16. The player in question played in ten games for a private school last year. He claims that he only played in three games for this school last year, hence he claims that he has sat out a year. He did not play for Farragut until their fourth game this year.

That would be a shame for Farragut to have to forfeit. I hope that they sort this out quickly.

  17. Roadwarrior6

Didn't mean to offend anyone... /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> I just enjoy some good natured banter.... I didn't mean to stir up alota trouble.. Ole bladerunner and I have been picking at each other since the WB vs OR game... I think neither of us takes it personal... I know I don't.... That being said I apologize to anyone that I may have offended... I am sure that anyone of our coacht bretheren who know me personally, and there are many, will tell you that I'm am full of bull and enjoy a good argument just for the sake of arguing.... Please accept my apology

    Sincerly

Okay, TPoole, if you are going to start being politically correct, I may have to find another hobby!

  18. Leave owlfanatic alone... If everyone represented their team with the class that owlfanatic has shown this year there would be less turmoil on these threads..... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Don't get me wrong.... I like to good banter as much as anyone but there is no reason to pick on owlfanatic... /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

I am having some friendly fun with Owlfanatic. He's not a damsel in distress! Yes, he seems like a good person and the Owls are lucky to have his support. I'm sure next year will be better.

  19. As others have said, I'm sure your parents are very proud of you. I would certainly have been proud to call you "my son". I hope these feelings between these two great schools towards each other continue down the path of being sister schools and that the rivalry will always be one of great respect - which is unlike what it is between too many other schools.

My daughter is a senior too, at Dobyns Bennett. Difference is, she is in the marching band. There are lots of feelings there too. Friday night was her last night at a home game as a member of that organization. The good thing is that you can only have such feelings if what you are a member of is something that you took great pride in and enjoyed. That normally means that you put forth your best effort. And that is a good thing.

Best of luck to you as you go forward in life. And if you end up in Oak Ridge, be sure to stay a loyal fan and do what it takes to help make Oak Ridge High School, and all their programs, the best they can be. What you've experienced is not just about football. It's about life.

DBGRAD, Even though OR has a terrific band, I was greatly impressed with DB's band. How many kids are in band and how many trucks does it take to get you guys around? Just curious...

  20. It's so cute how you all stick together, you guys go together like skoal & John Deere....Chew on that one that Billy Bob,

I think WB will win it all, & I see a national ranking in the future. Notice they will win the 5 A Championship, hey wait a minute what are you doing on here Reb lover shouldn't you be on the 4 A posts? Let us know whn you are ready for the Big time . in the mean time why don't you post where you belong, that would be one section down.. Kind of like middle school but with recruiting! this isthe Big time. you are not ready for the big time.

If you don't think that Maryville can hang in 5A, you are sorely mistaken. Remember, they beat WB. It will be a lot harder to keep their streak, I believe, but they'll do okay. If TPoole sees this, you in heapem trouble....
