  1. Canes, I think what he is implying is that in some years (I know it happened several times in A/AA) the "top two" teams were in the same bracket (Catholic and Notre Dame last year, FRA and CAK several years back, etc.) so they are saying that it would be better to rank teams and set them up in the brackets as such. The problem is that I don't think the rankings are all that valid. I also have no idea how they are ranked... coaches used to vote on the rankings each week, but that stopped this season for some reason. So I don't know if it is just one person's opinions, refs, ect.

Thanks for explaining that to him Big G. That's pretty much exactly what I was trying to say. I will agree that in this year, the top two teams from AAA were in the finals. That's not always the case though. I think they need to have some sort of seeding rather than a blind draw. Who is it exactly that's in charge of the eurosport rankings?

  2. I believe that AAA was down this year due to the fact that you saw teams in the state tournament that you haven't seen in years, or it was their first appearance.

Nevertheless, Brentwood was never tested the whole year, maybe at best 60 minutes out of the 100 plus minutes that they played Houston. If they had played a very gritty Father Ryan team, i am sure that the Irish would have handled the Bruins pretty easily and given them their first loss.

Following up the previous statement, i believe that D2-AA had the best, and most competitive teams

    throughout the state. /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />

I wouldn't say AAA had a down, or off, year. Sure, some of the perennial powerhouses such as Bearden and Farragut didn't make it into the state tournament, but I don't necessarily think this is because AAA had an off year. I think the parody level has risen tremendously over the past few years. The talent is finally about equal with many of the schools, thus making it to where it's not the same teams that dominate every year. It makes things more interesting. I think this was a good year for AAA. As for Brentwood, stop dogging on them with these "If this had happened..." or "If Brentwood had played this team..." The fact of the matter is, Brentwood did not play those teams. Nobody can say that Father Ryan would've easily handed Brentwood their first loss. No one knows because these teams did not play each other. So quit making assumptions just because you're probably a Father Ryan fan/player/student. Give credit where credit is due. These guys played a heck of a season. 24-0 in any division is hard to come by. I don't necessarily agree with the whole national championship thing, but that's because I don't think it's valid to compare high school teams on a national level. But my hat's off to Brentwood. Those guys did a remarkable job this year.

  3. Given a multi-year drought in Tennessee, I thought the fields looked in reasonably good shape, although not as outstanding as I have heard they have been in earlier years. I really admire that facility and prefer it to Mike Rose, except for the magnificent Rose stadium facility. I am a big fan of having the State Tournament in the Middle region every year. Going to Memphis every year was extremely expensive and created serious fairness issues for teams in the East. Of course, East Tennessee simply doesn't have the facilities to host this kind of event properly, so taking turns isn't possible. I hope the girl's tournament moves from Chattanooga to Murfreesboro soon so there can be one central venue.

As for the net issue Baylor encountered, you're right, that should never happen in a state championship or any other match for that matter. You would have expected, even if the venue manager and the TSSAA didn't conduct adequate pre-event inspections of the facility, that the referees would have discovered and required a hole in the net to be repaired during their pre-match inspection.

I did notice a few dry spots on the fields where in some the grass was completely dead. Going back to the Mike Rose stadium field though, that one is going to be in excellent condition because that's also where the University of Memphis plays their home soccer matches. They're of course going to try to keep that field in as great of shape as possible.

  4. Like I shared, if you are seeking interesting games, seek out that competition in your season schedule, and don't walk away from it in the quarters and semi's.

I'm not exactly understanding what you mean by walking away from the competition.

  5. No its no lie that Jame's size is much more suited for the college game, but Jordan makes better game-time decisions and therefore is always in a better position and makes very little mistakes ever. Jordan is a better keeper hence why he is going to Memphis and James is going to ETSU.

I don't think you can justify Jordan being a better keeper simply because he's going to Memphis and James is going to ETSU.

  6. So, what your saying is, the teams should be seated based on the rankings.

Can you share any other year it has been done this way?

I can see that this year, it would benefit you. Would you feel the same way if it didn't? As each of the teams play very few common opponents, do you think the rankings are always accurate?

    ................................................................................

The one thing that seems constant in this bracketing is that they seem to insure that two teams from the same district will not meet until the finals. Personally, I feel that preserving this may have greater weight in order to protect the reality that one district could have the #1 & #2 teams.

    _____________________________________________

Perhaps you could make it a point to talk to your coach and make sure that each of the other seven teams are on your schedule for the upcoming year.

I do feel that the teams should be seeded by rankings. It hasn't been done this way before, and it might have benefitted some teams this year. Who knows? But if you're saying the rankings aren't accurate because the teams play very few common opponents, you might as well throw out the rankings in every single sport then, high school and collegiate. The teams aren't always going to have the same opponents. That's why there are district rankings and state-wide rankings. In response to your other question, yes, I would feel this way if it didn't benefit me. The teams that would receive the #1 and #2 seedings (which would've been Brentwood and Houston) have earned that right this year. They deserve to have the lower seeds (#7 and #8 it would've been). I don't feel it's right, and have never felt it right, to pit two of the higher seeds (once again, had it been done by seedings) in the first round. I still feel the championship game would've been the same, but I think the semi-final matchups would've been more interesting.

  7. The teams are #2 & #4 in your heart.

If each team played the same schedule, then the rankings would have a little more weight.

The teams are #2 and #4 according to eurosportscoreboard.com

  8. I've played with Jordan Leedle, James Holt, and JP. Jordan Leedle is by far the best keeper as far as making quick smart decision. He can also command his team better than the other two. James Holt's size is quite impressive he's a friggin giant and a good keeper. JP has great natural talent but is no where near Leedle or Holt. Leedle is by far superior at that position in the state of TN.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "Leedle is by far superior at that position in the state of TN." Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying he's a bad keeper because he's far from that. He's an extremely talented keeper. I've seen both play though, and from what I have seen, I would say James commands his team better. In the matches I've seen, James is much more vocal than Jordan is. James's size will work to his advantage more than Jordan's will at the collegiate level too.

  9. Ya know Big G, last year I was joking, and the now the tournament is not even half over, and we are now hearing complaints about the draw.

If you want the state title, you should want to win it by playing the best teams.,,not hoping the tough teams knocked each other out.

THe draw seems fair as it is equal to all. No one has an advantage, regardless of how easy a schedule they play during the season.

BTW, Good luck to all in the hours and days ahead.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here. You want to play the best teams, but not in the first round. Take this past year's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament for instance. You wouldn't have wanted Kansas and Memphis to play each other in the first round because then there wouldn't have been the incredible championship game there was. I know that's probably not the best comparison, but to have what would've been the two lowest seeds play each other in the first round and then have what would've been the #2 and #4 seeds play each other in the first round seemed a little foolish to me.

  10. i would like to know more about this "blind draw" too. It seemed to be very odd that teams with very close records matched up (Oak ridge and Hendersonville for example). Also it seemed to be a very tough bracket with Cleveland, Brentwood and Knox West all in the same bracket. It would sure be interesting to see who did the "draw" and to watch. You supposed they video taped it--- being "blind" and non-biased and all? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I'm not a big fan of the blind draw thing. If they went by seedings (rankings according to eurosportscoreboard.com) it would've shaped up like this...

    1. Brentwood

    8. Oak Ridge

    4. Riverdale

    5. Collierville

    3. Knox West

    6. Cleveland

    2. Houston

    7. Hendersonville

I personally think that would've kept things a little more even. The bottom half of the bracket with Knox West, Cleveland, and Houston would still be really tough, but this would've kept the two lowest seeds (had the bracket been set by seedings) in Hendersonville and Oak Ridge from playing each other in the first round.

  11. riverdale does possess the extremely well like blackman did last year vs houston

riverdale has a hard time finishing so i doubt that they will score 1 on houston but i see houston getting more than 1 goal on james holt

i think it will be 1-0 houston

    Riverdale 1

    Houston 2

My hat's off to Houston. They have a heck of a team. They threw everything and then some at the Riverdale defense during the first 15 minutes. Once Riverdale settled down a bit, they started moving the ball a little better and actually scored first. Houston is a very talented team though, and I expect them to make it to the championship game.

  12. Siegel has played against both teams this year and I have seen RHS several other times. Houston is good, very good, and they are senior heavy. This always seems to add a level of urgency to a team when their team is made up of players that know if they loose their high school career is over. On a talent basis only Germantown Houston fields 11 strong players.

Based on talent alone RHS is is at a disadvantage. RHS fields 7-8 strong players that will be competitive at the state tournament level. However, I love the way this team plays together. Compton is a work horse and seemingly wills his team to victory. Jasper is a crafty forward and by combining with Rollins and Jose, RHS should get their chances. RHS has a way of taking advantage of their chances in big games. Defense will be under constant pressure and if their outside backs can stay organized, communicate well, and not take any chances from the back RHS will be in this game to the last whistle. Holt will have to be on his "A" game as well.

    Prediction:

    Houston 2 (OT)

    RHS 1

Just to throw this out there, Riverdale starts 8 seniors too.

  13. I would not say Avenged. They won with Blackman Playing down one man due to a questionable red card which was one of their best players for 80 minutes which included overtime.

    Maybe lucky???

Call it lucky if you will. But at the same time, Riverdale had Blackman on its heels in the District Championship game, leading 2-1 with 5 minutes to go with both teams at full strength. It was just a simple letdown however that allowed Blackman to win that game. I hate that people are trying to take something away from Riverdale winning the Region Championship. Those guys have had a heck of a season and deserve it. As far as the red card goes, from a fan's perspective, yes it was a questionable red card. However, from the TSSAA's perspective, it was completely justified. It's in the rule books that any curse word results in an automatic red card. Just out of curiosity, because I really do not keep up with them, who has Houston beaten this year that can be considered a good team? I know they lost to CBHS in their first game, and I know they've beaten Collierville two or three times. Who else have they beaten? And even though Collierville is in the state tournament, are they a little overrated?

  14. who has Riverdale lost to?

Riverdale only lost to Cookeville and Blackman this season. They lost to Cookeville once in the regular season, but avenged that in the District Semifinals. They lost to Blackman in the regular season and in the District Championship, but avenged that loss by winning the Region Championship.

  15. Who have Riverdale and Cleveland lost to?

Riverdale lost to Cookeville and Blackman in the regular season and then to Blackman again in the District Championship game. However, they did avenge both of those losses by beating Cookeville in the District Semifinals and Blackman in the Region Championship

  16. Blackman scored two goals within the first 2 minutes of the game. BHS was up 5-0 by half time. Most starters where out for most of the first half and the entire second half.

    Blackman 6-0 Final

So it's looking like Blackman vs. Warren Co. tomorrow at 6 and Riverdale vs. Cookeville tomorrow at 8. Sound right?

  17. My bad -- it was Oakland and not Lebanon that is not shown without a score on Eurosports score board. I should have compared it against CoachT. Thanks. I will edit the previous post results.

    Good deal

  18. OK - thanks for the update. They need to update their schedule so that it reflects that. The schedule shows the Lebanon game with no score as if it was never played and had to be made up.

No problem...but the schedule was updated...the score was already on there

  19. Cookeville 4 - 0 - 2 = 14 points (Finished with all district games)

    Blackman 2 - 0 - 2 = 8 points (Two games left)

    Warren County 2 - 2 - 1 = 7 points (One game left)

    Riverdale 2 - 1 - 0 = 6 points (Three games left)

    Lebanon 1 - 2 - 2 = 5 points (One game left)

    Oakland 0 - 3 - 2 = 2 points (One game left)

    Siegel 0 - 3 - 2 = 2 points (One game left)

White County (Automatically takes last place)

This list is not a predication list just a list that shows where everyone is on points as of today. Good luck to everyone as the season draws to an end. Big win for Cookeville last night - congratulations! Riverdale's future is still in their hands if they manage to win out. The game between Warren County and Lebanon is big next Tuesday because it will decide which one of those teams finish ahead of the other. They will probably face each other in the first round of the district and the game Tuesday will probably decide who gets the home field for that game.

A side note: Sympathy to the family of Tyler and the entire Blackman family. I remember him as a good competitor.

Riverdale is actually 3-1-0 with wins over Lebanon, Warren County, and Oakland so they should be listed as second in your standings with 9 points. They have two games left against Blackman and Siegel, not three games.
