  1. The writer could have taken the easy way out and had a 10 or 15 player watered down first team. I for one am glad he did not. He had difficult choices to make but how can you say this is "total partiality and connections"? I dont think Jeff Lockeridge would know who jay gholsteyn was if he bumped into him on the street this afternoon. The Arnold's are both tremendous players and no doubt worthy of first team recognition. But you telling me anyone that was named to the first team was not deserving? Congrats to all the players selected. You should be proud regardless of which "team" you were named to. They are all mid state selections.

I happen to know that they know each other personally very well. The rest of your statements need no reply. These girls were truly slighted. Some of these girls never made it to the finals at state for the past 2 years as did the girls from Greenbrier. Each of them for the past two years was MVP at state. The only change was removing themselves from Jay's team period, end of story.

  2. I've seen some major snubs before, but nothing like this year's all mid-state team. It is so obvious that Jay G. had Lockridges' ear on this. Kayla and Kaysi Arnold should have been right up there with S.S. and M.H. I feel that Nicole Smith is an excellent player, but she got shut down every time Greenbrier played them by the Arnold twins. The twins led us to two straight titles with amazing stats. Of course, by them deciding to leave Impact, that must not have sit very well, cause it is sho nuff showing up now. Some young ladies just refuse to be cussed and railroaded by an over-zealous, fanatical show ya butt kinda of coach. Class is something you are born with, and these two girls have plenty of it. What in the world kind of selection is this, the MVP of the state tournament on the 2nd team. Thanks again Tennessean, for another screwed up job of total partiality and connections, or lack of them. You, go twins, we love you and know you are deserving.

  3. What do you expect? Greenbrier pushes Kayla Arnold and nobody else. She gets all of the sets, and the offense is run to make her a star. Who has Greenbrier beat this year? Anyone that they shouldn't beat. Smith from Page is twice the player that Arnold is and she is only a junior.

Greenbrier fans on this board (That is you Mr. Arnold) openly talk that Greenbrier better win it all this year because when Kayla is gone Greenbriers run is over. Why act surprised that only certain girls get recognized? How many sets does she get, 2/3's. Then if she miss hits a ball what does the coach say, give her a better set?

Page and Greenbrier play first round of the tournament. Page wins because Smith is better than Arnold, and that is not going to be an upset.

What in the world did Kayla Arnold do to you that you would single her out by name and say such things? Other than possibly putting the volleyball down your daughters throat and making her eat it for a point, I could see where that would tear you up. Greenbrier is full of good hitters. I have watched Brentwood in the past and seen them play with emphasis being put on stronger hitters getting the set to make the play. That's just the game. Nina Dever possibly has the hardest hit if she connects. Kayla and Kaysi are just dead on and consistent with their kills. They usually hit around most blocks as do Jennefer Holbert, Nina and Riley. As for Nicole Smith, she is an awesome player with her own strengths. As for state, Page vs Greenbrier, sorry, Page hasn't made it through the last couple of years and this year will be the same story. Greenbrier has beaten Page at all the big games the past three years. I believe Spikeit2 has already tried to discourage you earlier in the season from your comments regarding two girls close to her heart. I hope you have a brain in your head and get the message this time, or quite possibly from your posts, you're just plain ignorant.

  4. In reading these posts I think some of the Greenbrier parents need to grow up and not worry about who gets selected to the all tournament team, but worry about whether you win or lose. I watched the team last year and heard a lot of the same people cry because the little setter got all of the awards that she got. Now I am hearing it again. It is my understanding that the setter touches the ball on every possesion and without her none of the hitters would be very good.

5-sport dad who does the Butler girl deserve the award over? The Arnold twins? The Williams girl? The Holbert girl? She did a great job along with your daughter, but who do you take off. The tournament "committee" has a tough time in any sport and I am sure they dont want to leave any one off, but they have to make selections on what they see on the court. If you know who was on the committee I am sure that they would talk to you and explain to you their selections if you wanted to talk to them instead about them on this post.

Frankly, I haven't ever heard the big hair lady complain about who got what. I think she was glad to be a part of it all. It is true it takes a great setter. It also requires good hitters to hit the ball, WHEREVER the set is at the net. That is a Greenbrier motto, and the hitters on Greenbrier for the past few years could do just that. I think it is funny that a person just happened to go directly to a person that they thought could answer a question about the tourney team selections, and all this chatter has resulted from it. I'll have to attend more games in the future to get a better understanding of the who's who of Greenbrier. From what I can gather from all these posts: if you want to get an unbiased viewpoint on anything, ya better ask a neighbor from another city to be on the committee, oh yeah that's right, the insiders pick those too. How do you get to be an insider ar Greenbrier? Are you born into it? Do you go to school there? Do you have some kind of blood ritual? I have kids coming up so I want to get on the fast track to the networking ASAP.

  5. Greenbrier has once again brought home another regional championship. This community is really proud of our girls. They selected an all region team. Congradulations to the Arnold twin towers, always deserving. I was captivated by the lady who asked an old assistant coach how the tournament team was selected. I didn't hear the reply but the lady who asked the question then asked who was on the committee. Once again, I didn't hear the reply. Then the lady who was asking all the questions said, PITIFUL, absolutely PITIFUL. She was all for the TWIN TOWERS selection, but balked at the other choices. Yes I know it is a free country, and not to take away from the honors to the other two players that were selected, but what about the Devers girl? She played a hec of a tournament, was recognized as an all district player. The other player, #32, played a hec of a tourney too. As a spectator, were these committee members watching the same game I was? Then it dawned on me, I'm in Greenbrier, land of the free, home of the "I've got your back!" Don't you just love small towns? Kudos to the woman who had enough backbone to balk the system, and, she had really big hair too.

  6. Guess I had to give Greenbriar some credit because I did post that your total creditability did turn on how you did this weekend. While I didn't see the match set scores, I think everyone in AA except Anderson and Stone and assuredly Page, do give you the recognitgion you deserve on this win in one of the toughest tournaments in the State, any division. Now before I close, don't blow it. I likely put the acknowledgement of Death on your school. Duck, Pageman just threw a Dart at me.

Care to explain that last comment? I know you are not ignorant. Why do you refuse to spell Greenbrier correctly?

  7. Congrats tonite to Greenbriar for winning the Tandem and beating a fine GPS school. This win today gives Greenbriar a slight edge in their quest for a second straight AA State Championship.

What gives PHargis?! (SLIGHT EDGE?) You truly have trouble giving praise and credit to the Greenbrier Bobcats. I have watched your posts. You get your subtle digs in and then allow people to rebuke you and then you politely turn the other cheek. The only thing that has staved my scathing tongue from setting you straight quick is that you are never malicious. Honey goes alot further than vinegar, even in your little inuendos. You are partially clever, partially obtuse, possibly snickering wickedly as you type, possibly our next serial killer. You know so little about this particular club, as do many of the coachT fans. We don't go boasting about which players are potential college prospects as others, yes, we know the names(Nicole Smith, Madeline Hutchinson, etc.) We have Division I schools seeking some of ours too. We just don't go around tooting it! When we win again this year at state, I have just one request. PLLLLeeeaaasssseeee don't cover up last years state champion pic ! LOL (Hi 5-sport Dad)

  8. Greenbrier would love a match with Ryan. Looks like maybe Ryan should be replaced by Independence in the top 10 poll.

Let's see Peace, if I heard this correctly last year. Greenbrier came real close to winning against Ryan. Heard there were some blatant bad calls by line parent judges for Ryan. Also heard, that the line judges were afraid of spiked balls coming at them and would be out of position to make calls that were controversial. If you get a rematch, better get some dudes with a bigger set of volleyballs!

  9. Well said 5 sport. There is a huge bias on this web site. Fact: During the last 3 years, without question, the best two A/AA teams have been Catholic and Greenbrier. They should have met in the finals last year. Those two teams are driven by talent, not coaches. I am not saying the coaches do a bad job, in FACT they do a good job, but they would do a GREAT job if they gave the better athletes more freedom. I agree with catsfan, how hard is to coach two teams like this that have more talent then any other school. Catholic and Greenbrier are the top two schools because they have the best talent. I know it is not the political thing to say but does anybody really think that the finals this year is NOT going to be Catholic and Greenbrier. They have the most talent, and should win. That is no slam against Page.

The coaches job is to let the talent play. If Greenbrier doesn't have Kayla Arnold, they don't win. It wouldn't matter how good their coach is. She doesn't hit the ball. This young lady is an awesome talent. She has solid teammates around her that know how to get her the ball. Same for us, take away the talent and Game Over. We lost the state championship last year and the year befoe because we were over coached. Look at the team we had and we play a new player at the state tournament, who had been ineligible all year?

Sports are driven by the talent, at every level.

At the end of the day Catholic and Greenbrier will be the best 2 teams just like it has been for the last three years.

KCMama, Thanks for chiming in on some same view points, but gotta ask you a slight favor. I know who alot of these screen names are in person. It is funny to see them brag on THEIR kids, lol. Actually, alot of us know who each other is. I am all about giving praise to kids, starting with others first. Now here is my favor. When you have two children, same age, same grade, TWINS, and you start singling out one over the other, it gets a little sticky. You need to understand that Kaysi(the other twin), got recognized 2 years ago as an all state tournament player. These girls are equally talented, one may have got set more often or one got paired up on the net against a stronger/weaker front line. I appreciate your opinion and compliments on the team, just as we appreciate Knox Catholic(Met your middle that graduated, awesome player). The team has had to play without key players in the past at different times, and there was always a great player waiting in the wings to get the job done. Between the two twins, they have equal awards in merit and performance. I don't know if their mom gets on Coach T, but that would be a little rough on the heart. We're not a bunch of saps here, just careful to keep egos in check and confidence to go all around. Thanks for listening, never mean to cause a problem.

  10. 20, this poster wants the fans at Greenbrier to understand what is involved here. What is stake is history in AA VB for a school to go back to back State championships and it is counterproductive for the fans how well meaning and enthusiastic they are. No one has to explain Greenbrier. You are posting to yourselves. I will say this if any of this posting takes a small amount of hunger out of your Schools team it is not worth it. You have players that have to get better. Now KC, your thoughts are respected but Greenbrier High School is your schools name and your Coach has put together the players on your team and coaches your team. Yes, she had the sense to select some great players but she does run the team, motivates the team and if it loses she is looked at to accept most of the responsibility. However she is the director and she will give cudos to every player who deserves it I'm sure. And next year with a new group of players she will start again and the next year again, and the nest year again. She picks and directs and they play. Thats the definition of a coach. You now have your roster posted on T. A great fan from Page High school did it. Someone from Greenbrier should have done it. Pageman felt he should do it because he felt the urgency of the fans. Maybe you are right, assign the coach something else to do and tell the girls to go to the gym and buy their own equipment, condition themselves and work out schedules, post rosters on T, post schedules on TSSAA, work out with other schools the details of scheduling, work out a starting lineup, take care of all the personal problems of chemistry with the team( and Greenbrier doesn't have a problem with that), get the bills paid, try to satisfy the fans and parents on why their kids don't play and why their playing time is down and why a setter does not set right( that happens on every team that fields a team). And then, with all respect, they are going to be directed to call you when all of this choas hits the fan and tell you to direct the team. Now its in your court and you are the setter. Are are you just going to let the team do just what they want or is the problem something else? Is someone else wanting to coach? Can't have two coaches or can you and then what is productive. What is astounding to this poster is that the players are playing and all of coaches are coaching and where is all of this gobbyly gook coming from? There is where you will find the implosion.

First, let me just say I have no child involved. I don't feel slighted and I don't have any bad blood or underlying, unresolved issues. I did name this forum "Greenbrier volleyball", so obviously, it's Greenbrier we are talking about. There is truly no way you can speak to this issue. Sure, you can generalize with another long speech, and I do agree with some things you said. As for the coach raising funds, the parents and the girls can be thanked for that. As far as team chemistry goes, it works alot better when the coach gets biased particulars out of the way and lets the girls develop their own. It is pretty easy as a coach to inherit a team that was primed and ready with talent 2 years ago. By last year, half had played club ball. This team would be every coach's dream as far as hunger, grit, determination and talent. To answer KCmama, Kayla Arnold was MVP. Her sister, Kaysi, has just as many awards. Together, they are pretty darn awesome. They are not alone, it takes a team to win the whole thing, plenty of back row digging from some lesser known names, but all heart. I don't know exactly where you hail from Phargis, and please, don't take this the wrong way but, do you have an opinion about EVERYTHING? You sometimes come across as condescending, and I don't know if my type wires are getting crossed or you are really that way

  11. Now,here we go. The season hasn't even started and you won a scrimmage and youve now won the state. Its great to have confidence and its great to have pride but a match that means anything has not even been played. And now you are worried about AAA when you are not even in it. If Greenbrier is trying to win AAA, change clsasifications and got out of the District you are in. They will let you play in 11AAA where every night almost is a District, regional or State Tournament matchup. Do you have that in the District you are in? Wht's going to happen with an injury or two? Are you still there. Last time I checked there are three championships. If you are not happy with your coach, I can name 7-8 Schools that will take her in a minute or less if she wants. If anyone at Greenbrier thinks they can be where they are today with less of a coach, they are dillusional. Your last statement, I hope puts this whole thing to bed. This team, today, has a lot of every thing it takes to be a state champ but they haven't done it yet and there still are some holes in the play. How about getting a match with GPS, Anderson, Some of the AA Chattanooga teams. Some of the fans at Greenbrier must think they have played a season already. Last account, the curtain hasn't even been parted. There has been some glimmers and some players have played great But there is probably a coach somewhere that looked at PM's stats of the match and will have seen what has to be done and it will come at you every match with the same plan. What you do have though is a very good coach who seems to roll with the punches and can react to the moves. That's your advantage right now. I'm sure she will leave all of this AAA bluster to someone else and the rest will tell you to get in a District that more fits your talent. 14-0 in your district means nothing. They won't even post their playday results to see how they stand. Your team, right now, is the Arnold Twins and for a few matches all have seen, a up and coming great setter in Jennifer Holbert. No other players yet can carry the School without them. Will they during the year? maybe so or maybe not. If you had posted this the first of October and your record against teams out side of your District was clear, its a different subject.

Sorry to come at a first time poster like this but its the second time now it has happened and Greenbrier, give it a little time. Congrats for becoming a member and we are pleased to have someone with the knowledge of the spoort as you evidently do.

I have read your posts for some time now and have a great appreciation of your knowledge and dedication to this sport. I think you have missed your calling and could write a book on this subject. One good idea separates the millionaires and the rest of us. However, you missed my point. I am not worried about AAA, I just feel like more credence is given to them being larger in size. In most papers, they usually snag the pictures and the large writing, we get a corner cut out of the page, and this is said with a smile. We do usually have a slightly weaker district, which is why tournament play days are so important. To talk to the parents of these girls, they thrive on trying to compete at a higher level of play, to get them ready to face regions and higher. These girls have to overcome small town bias and connections and stay above the fray. Some of the players are coddled, depending on who their parents are, while others are expected to take everything on the chin. I've been around, too long possibly, to watch unexpected good athletes have to hack their way to the top, play hard to maintain a strong position, while others are automatically put in to positions and never challenged in their spot, even when their play is weak. So all in all, there is some strong mental determination in these kids. I am not bragging prematurely, just sending the message that we're here and we're hungry, and there is life after some left over hype, no names necessary

  12. I think it is extremely funny that Page was initially chosen to beat Greenbrier at State. I have been a spectator for several years and think that Greenbrier hasn't truly been given the respect it deserves. I know eyes are on the triple A schools but Greenbrier literally just got on the radar 2 years ago, going out in the semi- finals, to winning the whole enchilada last year. A lot of our success can be credited to the Arnold girls, who are in their final years as a Bobcat. There are girls with major talent on the team like Nina Devers and Jennifer Holbert. We graduated some great players but in their places are tremendous talents who have their own legacies to write. The coach needs a little tweaking. She never could get it that the setter had to get the ball to the hitters instead of the big hitters running around, scooching down, turning flips, walking on water, and so on just to get the spike. Our new setter has poise, and likeable attitudes. This team has everything it takes to be a state champ again.
