  1. Gonna be a tough Battle for the Bucs, as not only are they facing the best team the ASUN has offered in a long time, but they are battling illness and injury as well. Already facing one player out with the flu and another out with a concussion received during practice this week, ETSU lost two more to injury during the Belmont Match yesterday. With no subs left, ETSU was allowed to sub in a player who had previously been in the game for someone else to allow the match to continue.

ETSU will not roll over, however, and Coach Devine will have whatever weapons available ready to go. I expect a great match today

  2. Whoa, seems I may have hit a nerve.

You have the right to do whatever you want, much as I have the right to not agree with what you do. My opinion is that regardless of where it was previously published (and I'll bet Lockridge talked to the family before it was in the Tennessean), it isn't the place of anyone but the family to put it on the web. Again, this is just my opinion, doesn't neccesarily mean it's correct.

    Peace and love

  3. Kudos to Ellen and her family, the Lady Vols just got a great player and an even better person. I know she'll have a great career there.

On another note, I always wonder about some of the things that get posted here. Stbulldog, are you a family member? Even if something like this becomes (somewhat) common knowledge, I always feel it should be the family's decision to put it on Coach T or not. Just my opinion. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

  4. I would agree. They have different tourneys so why not different all state teams? While Harding had a great year and the girls on the list are deserving of recognition for their success it seems hard to believe they all had better years than some of the D2-AA players left off of the list. This list says the Harding had a deeper team than D2-AA runnerup Father Ryan and those 5 were better than all but 4 players from FR,BGA,HH,BA JPII, Knox Webb and St C. I don't know if that is the case.

The level of play was different, however, I think the problem is just numbers. With only 16 teams in DII-A, and only 36 in all of DII, a seperate divisonal All State list would be pretty watered down. I guess then the argument could be made for multiple "All State" recognition for just the AAA and AA-A, since they number of teams is so mcuh greater, I'm sure many great players were left off that list.

  5. KUDOS to MTSU players and also their coaching staff. For Matt to have taken this program to this level in less than 4 years is simply miraculous. Congrats Matt, Jeff and Amy.

PS We have known a local player who made the sweet sixteen as a sophmore at Tennessee (Ann Mullins)...I'm sure she's glad to have the company!!! GO BLUE RAIDERS!!!

I second BB's comments, everyone in the Local Volleyball community should be proud of the accomplishments of the Blue Raiders, and I know I'll be rooting for them against BYU.

PSS Don't forget Notre Dame and Brentwood's own Lauren Brewster who took the Irish to the round of 16 in '05, if I'm not mistaken.

  6. It was me that said it. I didn't mean to take anything way from the young ladies of FR. Their game speaks for them. However it will be a lot harder for anybody to beat a team of their skill when it SEEMS that they are getting more calls. It happen in other games as well. This isn't FR that is behind this, but getting the beneifit from it. I think the GPS coach is going to have heart Attack with his evil looks. Hope they find good ref's for tomorrow games. May the Best win and nothing else.

upnorth, I don't get the springer reference from the poet, so I won't go there, but i do have a question. Why do you think Ryan is getting calls? Who's behind it? In the 4 years I was a parent, I don't think I saw Coach Cockerham work the refs a single time, and that was Vball and hoops. Although I can't say the same for some of the parents, especially that one guy, what a jerk!!

If it's just a local thing, I can't speak for this year, but I know at last year's tourny there were maybe 2 refs that I recognized from Middle Tn. The rest were strangers that I hadn't seen in HS or Club.

If it's a local thing, it that why Brentwood has been so dominant? And what's gonna happen if Brentwood and Centennial make the finals? The refs will have a real quandry on their hands.

I agree that the officiating is not what it should be. But it's been my experiance, now that I'm able to look at it without someone on the floor, that it's pretty consistently bad, and not favored either way. It's kind of hard to see that when you're down 23-14 though.

(PS my daughter's had 5 ball handling errors called on her this year on attempted sets from the back row. So get ready, cause NCAA refs are biased and stink also!)

  7. It seems that we have to wait a couple more days before things are settled. It seems that the West was won today, but could live another game or 2. However the Smith Girl from Hutchison can go. I don't think the schooled girls ever really stopped her. I also didn't get the # of the ref in the father ryan uniform. He sure seemed to be inflated with allowing some of the locals play careless with the ball. Not your fault just luck of the Irish. Bad Local Refing not an excuss unless you lose. Hope the refs call both sides the same and all the girls bring their game. Big Daddy sure can yell loud, and he sure talks proud and heartful of his little girl and all the rest. It was nice to see him today. It seemed that they were out of Moon Pie's, I gave a side of Rain. Good luck to all. My daughter wants to hit like Hut #2, Set like FR #20 and jump like GPS #5. I do as well. Remember young ladies are watching your daughters.

See you at Meet and Greet.

Wow was that unpredictable! Get beat and the ref is wearing the uniform of the other team. Do you realize how belittling that is to the players on the winning team? Just give em' their props and move on, you'll have your day.

    Peace

  8. My, My you sure are showing a glowing example of a person losing control when the heat is turned up. You may have your anatomy all wrong. Is this how they teach people at your school to deal with someone who disagree's with your inflated opinions about your sport teams. The pain will soon be over. Don't forge the Bac-Tine. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Dang it, it looks like game, set, match to the bulldog. C'mon chosen, don't be selfish, think of all the rest of us who are getting nearly endless entertainment with this back and forth.

I wish all these deserving teams could experience the 'Boro, they've worked so hard to come up a game short. For those who do make it, cherish the experience. This is m first year in the last three to not be a participant ( graduation) and I know I'll miss it.

  9. It seems to me that Centennial is being sincerely overlooked...but we are used to that. However, in volleyball, we are a force that should not be ignored. In the Blackman tournament a few weeks ago, we took 2nd place and we have certainly earned our spot in the state tournament. So when anyone is figuring out what the state rankings should be....maybe you might figure us into the mix.....

Jeez, Mom, BB has you at #6 up top, and picked you for the final at Blackman, where do want to be?

    Peace

  10. If you happen to be very talented and somewhat affluent, IMPACT/SELECT will provide you the best coaches/attention/grooming they can. If you are one of those (many) girls who really love VBall but haven't had the opportunity or coaching to get you to a certain level, you tend to be fodder for the cannon at those places.

There was a time when I may have agreed with your perspective, but hindsight being what it is, I think I don't agree with the "fodder for the cannon" statement. My daughter was at Impact from 14-18, and until the last year never played on the # 1 team. I always give her first Impact coach, Joe Gilmore, all the credit for teaching her what the game was really about after coming from a public middle school where it was underhand serve and get the ball over any way you can. That was on the 14-2 or maybe 3 team. From there we were fortunate to have some great coaches, Barbara Campbell's daughter (her first name escapes me, I'm getting old), Maggie Tucker, Brandon Rosenthal, Tony Howell, etc. And Jay and Donna spend a lot of time working with all the teams, not just their own. All of these folks had a hand in preparing her for where she is now, making a contribution at a D1 program. I'm pretty sure you'll find the same thing at Select, I just don't have experience with them. I think these clubs care about every kid in the program, not just the elite.

As far as affluent, I can assure that there are plenty of folks who are sacrificing a lot to pay the freight for these club experiences. For us, it kind of became our vacation time, and there was nothing better than spending our weekends with our daughter as we traveled to the various playing sites. With the added benefit of becoming lifelong friends with the parents we traveled with, we would not have traded it for anything.

    Peace

  11. Being out of town, I too was unable to attend the invitational, but I find it hard to fathom that for a match as important as the one being discussed featured " inexperienced " line judges that " jumped around like little girls when the ball came close to them", as someone previously alluded. Sorry, there may have been some tough calls that went against your team, and they may have been incorrect, but I don't believe they were a product of inexperience, in-comp-e-tance, or allegiances to either team.

    Peace to all

  12. As Mom, I can report that Taylor Stice is doing well as Lees-McRae. She received a lot of play time over last weekend's Carolina Classic tournament is North Carolina. She started much of the weekend and looked strong. Her coach was very pleased but she still has a ways to go to bring her stats up. They have travelled to DC and Florida to play so far this year. Most important she LOVES playing in college but misses her HS and club teammates! She mentioned seeing a girl from siegel at the classic. Does anyone know who might have gone to another DII school over in that area? We would love to know!!

And as a dad, I can report that Dani Howe ( Father Ryan and another Impact 18 Blue alum ) is doing well and loving it right down the Mountain from Taylor at East Tennessee State. So far this season she's played in all but 2 matches. The team is doing well, but kind of ran into a buzzsaw last weekend at West Virginia, dropping two matches to West Virginia and Indiana State. Things don;t get easier this weekend with Indiana and # 23 St. Johns. Tonite a reunion of sorts as Kat Hall's Furman Paladins come to ETSU.
