Since this is our first freestyle/greco tournament this season, I'm not sure what kind of numbers to expect. I'll know more tonight since registrations are due by midnight. It also depends on what division you are in and how much you weigh. Exhibition matches will be available. I am going to do my best to get each participant the maximum number of matches. If you want more, you can set up as many exhibitions as you want. I know the kids in my club will wrestle as many exhibitions as possible. If you are coming from a distance and want to wrestle both styles, you can stay in our facility for $10. We will have an adult staying overnight to supervise. Cleveland High School is hosting a pre-season tournament on Nov. 10th at Cleveland High School. This is for Middle School and High School Students only. High School and Middle School weigh classes will be used. We will use either 4-man round robin or 8-man brackets depending on the entries. We want each guy to get at least 3 matches but we don't want to take up the entire day. We will weigh-in from 8:00-8:30 and wrestle at 10. This will not be a USA sponsored event. I know it was advertised as USA before but it was changed. The entry fee will be $10 and no card will be required. This will be a great opportunity for your kids to get early matches. The following is information on a pre-season tournament hosted by the Higher Calling Wrestling Club in Cleveland. This will be a USA Wrestling sanctioned event, meaning that every participant must have a VALID USA Wrestling card to participate. I know there has been a problem in the past with USA Wrestling events in this area. Mainly, that there have only been but one or two a year. That is changing this year. We are starting the season out with this tournament on October 6 and planning approximately 1 per month. This event is folkstyle only. We will run folkstyle only tournaments in the months of August through February and freestyle and greco events from March through July. This may change a little but we will do our best for the tournaments to coincide with the current season. The age groups will also vary according to what is going on in our area. Right now there is a lot of Middle School and High School preparation going on. The tournament on the 6th will give these groups an opportunity to get some matches in to prepare for their upcoming seasons. This tournament will also give those going to the Super 32 an opportunity for some tune-up matches. As stated before, it may not have been in the best interest for athletes in this area to buy a $35 USA Wrestling card to only attend a few events. It is now a better deal due the fact that there will be more events for the athlete to attend. Also, in the spring and summer, it will no longer be a $45 hit ($35 for the USA card, $10 for the entry fee) to TRY freestyle and greco. You'll pay $45 for the first tournament, hopefully the October 6th event, for the rest of the year you'll just pay entry fee. Please pass this information on to all wrestlers and coaches. The better turnout, the better competition. I hope all of you will consider participating in these events. I'm not throwing out false information with these tournaments. Whether there are 10 entries or 500 entries, there will be opportunities for the kids to wrestle, which is the most important thing.
