  1. slight improvement you keep throwing out all these statistics of the last three years but its just cause you dont want people to belive any one but you that your the only one who knows what should be done those statistics it doesnt show the improvement from last year at all. and being truthful the only coaching change that should be done is the OC we have a pretty godd set of coaches that have some experience. and for the volunterr coaches gora and and walker they deserve to be paid they are there everyday and are a vital part to that staff they are only volunteer coaches because they cannot be hired because they do not have teaching lisensure.so they can only be volunteers they are just trying to do what they love and help the kids they love they deserve every bit they get paid. and if you still think the coaches are a joke you are stupid the only reason we competed with franklin county who was much more athletic than us was the coaching and we were disceplined /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

As I said earlier, the improvement is because most of the seniors have been playing significant time since they have been sophmores and that experience has been one reason for the improvement. The other being that the competiton level has dropped drastically from last season. Last year, 7 of the 10 opponents had winning records compared to this year where 4 of the 10 opponents had winning records.

As for the experience thing. Elementary football and high school football are two different ball games! And two or three of the coach's know nothing other than how to keep the players back off the sidelines. And a good coach does not go on the radio and say that the his team is going to lose the game they are about to play. (Yes, that was said in different words, but it was exactly what was meant.)

And for Franklin Co. being so talented, they only won 3 games for a reason.

  2. First of all this is a moot point... no coach in his right mind would take that job after the coaching staff didn't get paid until two months after the season was over last year and they had to miss several weeks of practice this year. Count your blessings that you have the coach you do.

I agree, but there is definetly something wrong with the coaching staff and something needs to be done. Yes, we did improve slightly this season , but that is due to most of the players having experience for having to play so much in previous years. And, that our opponents for the most part having down years. Mark my words if things stay the way they are, that team will be in worse shape next year.

How do you know that the coach's didn't get paid for two months after the season?

  3. No, their opinion does not count when it comes to the coach. Kids do not get to pick the coaches, and neither do the parents - believe it or not. Schultz seems like a good guy and from everything I hear he treats the kids wel and works them pretty hard. The kid's job is to play for the coach that is there. He does okay for the talent he has. Of course no one wants to play because the team is losing. And the team is losing because no one wants to play. That's a vicious circle but that is the way it usually works. What 'big time' coach is Cumberland County going to draw that will have them stumbling on themselves to get into the locker room anyway? I'm sorry but a team that is 1-29 over the past three years and has very little athleticism isn't an attractive pitch to the George Quarles' of the world. The Jets were much better this year. It takes time.

There is so much more to it than what you hear! If he treated the players so well they would want to play for him. After, one game he told the players he was embarressed to be their coach. On the day of the first game, for the first time he went over the two minute offense on the board. Thats poor coaching. You can't tell me that in Coffee County if a coach lead a team to a 1-29 record that he would have a job. These games are not even close! I'm not asking for a "big time" coach, i'm asking for a coach. If you watched CCHS games every week you would see the problem goes alot deeper than talent!

  4. cchssoccer

I agree these boys have busted their butts all year like every other program in the state, but they have not been developed into the players they could be and that is all about coaching. These boys played the game with only the talent that God provided. We have some good football players out there, but with a little coaching they could be great. This season could have been a turn around for CCHS, especially with the good players that are on the team. It is a sad situation and someone should be held responsible!

  5. I think he is a good coach, despite the record the team was much better this season, the problem is talent... there were a couple good players on the team this year, that fullback could start for anyone in the region, but the overall talent just isn't there.

There is more talent in the school that does not play because they believe the coach is not adequate. Not to mention to start the season there were 55-60 players on the team and they finished the season with a little over half that. The majority of the players that stuck with it, done it for their teamates. And alot have already said if he comes back, they will not play. The fullback that you mentioned wants a change and knows he has not developed under the current coaching staff. And, in my opinion after watching all the games there were only a few schools that had more talent than CCHS did.

  6. I want to know everyone's opinion on what should be done about the coaching at Cumberland County High School. Not just Jet fans, non-biased opinions and thoughts are wanted. What would be done in other communities throughout the state? Here are a few facts to help guide the discussion. Keep in mind there is a whole lot more to the situation than just simple statistics. One more question, should volunteer coaches be paid?

In the last three years under Tony Schultz, the record is 1- 29 and they have been outscored 1021-162, an average score of 35-5 per game. In the past three years on average 4 of the 10 opponents have had a winning record, so it is not like they are playing powerhouse teams. Additionally, they play in region 3-5A, arguably the weakest region in 5A. For example, Franklin Co.(3-7) and Warren Co.(4-6) are going to the playoffs with losing records. No offense to the representing schools of 3-5A.

  7. Everyone keeps asking what is wrong in Cumberland County (and yes I know someone is going to say "well look at how bad Bledsoe is" I know we have many problems that need fixing too, but at least we had Stone on the schedule so we could get a win". Simply playing that game last night that you had to get permission to play since it is past week 10 and neither team being playoff or bowl eligible is a sign of your problems. Calling a game between 2 teams that have been humiliated on the field all year "The King of the Mountain" is a joke. You act like that game means something, it only tells the boys "its OK if you lose every game as long as you beat the other school in your county". How rediculous is that? Neither team has any discipline, they have not been working out, they are not is shape, and they are not well coached on the field. You have middle school teams that only play each other and then have "county champions" and make the kids think they have done something. You all need to take a long look at your programs, decide that what you have is unacceptable and stop making excuses for your kids and get people in there that know what it takes to win and can put some "heart and want to" back into those programs. And again, yes I do know that Bledsoe has some of the same problems and that is why there are many people in the valley trying to get something done about it.

A agree 100%! But what do we do? It seems that the majority of people think that nothing is wrong or if they do agree something is wrong they will not try to do anything about it. They always seem to worry about the repercussions. But, the repercussions can be no greater than watching someone you love go through pure misery for 4 years!

  8. its amazing how people can run coaches down about how bad they are but the ones doing the talking know next to nothing about football. people seem to forget that cchs is only repoting about a thousand kids and playing a 5a schedule with teams that are reporting 2000 kids or more. cchs has a decent set of coaches who want to win but its hard to win when you dont have the amount of talent that the other team has. if you know so much how come your not coaching. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    blueten

Yes, we do play in 5A, but it is arguebly the worst region in 5A. You say that we are playing schools that have 2000 kids or more, but according to TSSAA.org none of our region opponents have more than 2000 students. As a matter of fact the enrollments are as follows: Cookeville-1907, Warren Co.-1768, Lincoln Co.-1525, Franklin Co.-1500, and Coffee Co.-1426. Also, this year, two of the teams in our region that are going to the playoffs have a losing record. (Franklin County at 3-7 and Warren County at 4-6) That shows how tough we have here at CCHS. Now, lets say your theory about being in 5A is valid. (Which it isn't, I would rather have CCHS's 5A schedule any day over Stone Memorial's 3A schedule.) What about the other non 5A teams on our schedule? Yes, we finally got by a dismal White County team one time in three years (White Co is 7-23 in the last three years). What about 3A Meigs County who are less than good, with a record of 3-7. (They probably should be 2A with the number of students that they have.) We also play 2A York Institute which is a good team, but should they come in and beat the heck out of CCHS! They are 2A!!!! Let's not forget 3A Stone Memorial who beat us 22-20 in a JV game and we played our varsity team and not to mention the 34-0 beat down they gave us last year! (They haven't won a game since.) Lets not leave out 4A Rhea County, who seems to always have our number and is actually a good team. In the past three years on average 4 of our 10 opponents have had a winning record, so it is not like we are playing powerhouse teams. In the last three years under Tony Schultz, we have been outscored 1012-155, an average score of 35-5 per game. Not to mention, we have been shut out 14 of the 29 games which is 48% of the time. So it is not like the games are even close! As far as talent, I only saw a few teams on the schedule that had more talent than CCHS. Also, there are more talented kids in that school that just don't to play for Tony Shultz, because they know he is a joke! Most of the players that play on the team think he is a joke. I have heard several of them voice their oppinions toward the situation. They are tired of being humiliated! The players on this team are real men and I commend you for sticking it out!

Bottom line, if you think that 1-28 is acceptable you need your head examined! Football on the mountain is absolutely embarrassing, and the proof is in the posts on this very thread! The kids and the community deserve a whole heck of alot better.

Good luck to both sets of players tonight!

    GO JETS!!!

  9. The Jets should win this game. I know that people do not believe in Stone's coaching, but I trust them a heck of a lot more than the jokers at CCHS. CCHS has lost several players this year, they are down to 30 kids freshman through seniors. And most of them want it to be over. With this being said, I believe the Jets will win this game. I know pantherma, that is what you expected to here, but in this case it is what should happen. The players at CCHS will win this game even though they have questionable coaching.

Cody Vance is off the team, but Brad Davis will be playing.

  10. It may be the first time a 2-7 team that has been outscored 216-115 has gone into a game overconfident.

This is more than likely true and with good reason, because CCHS has been outscored 233-59 this year. Which is an great improvement over the last two seasons. This fact is very disapointing because the team is much better than this! Good luck boys!

  11. I do not know anything about the leading rusher. I'm not sure who the leading rusher is but I would imagine it to be Cody Vance. I know that he was suspened from a game earlier this season due to missing the labor day practice. I do believe that the kid that got thrown out of the last game will be suspended for this game. I think that might be TSSAA rules, but i'm not sure. He will be a big loss for the Jets up front on defense.

  12. If Coffee County could score 20 in one quarter against Frankin County's defense I think it can against Cumberland County's defense. Granted the Jets are much better on defense from everything that I hear, but no way they have the talent or athletes Franklin County has. The question is, does CHS show up and play hard after a two hour bus ride in a season that has went terribly since week one? If the Raiders aren't flat and execute it will be ugly for the Jets, no doubt. But flip that coin. If the Raiders go through the motions and don't care, Cumberland County could easily win. I guess we will see. Pretty good day at practice today for the few minutes I was there. Offense looked good.

The Cumberland defense is tough, but has a tendency to give up big plays especially when they get down. They also get alot of penalities which help to bail out the oppositions offense. The offense can and should move the ball down the field, but when they get in the red zone things change. If the Jets get down, especially in the second half they start trying to throw alot and that gets them in trouble. If this happens Coffee will record alot of sacks and a couple turnovers. This game should be low scoring and a very good one. This is Cumberland Co's last home game of the season, so the Jet players will be ready. I just hope the coaches are!

    GO JETS!

  13. The Jets have improved since 2005. I was glad to see them get a w against White Co. They still have a long way to go, but are better on offense and defense.

I remember the teams of Coach Wattenbarger. Hard nose teams who played physically and would hit you in the mouth. Hopefully, the team will keep improving.

That is because we had good coaching. We may not have been the fastest or the most athletic but we were strong and would hit. I felt like we were prepared each and every week. That seems to be lacking at Cumberland county now. Talent will only get you so far and that is the only reason the Jets are even competing. I'm not saying that the Jets have a smorgasbord of talent, but what they have is why they are hanging in there.

I heard through the grape vine that Coach Watt will be coaching at Stone next year.

  14. I know we've sunk pretty low this season, but if we can't beat Cumberland County....I'm not going to say it. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

By the way, since 2001 when Cumberland and Coffee were put into the same region, Coffee has won 4 times and Cumberland 3 times. So it is not like you haven't lost to us before. Maybe this year we can even the series!

  15. I know we've sunk pretty low this season, but if we can't beat Cumberland County....I'm not going to say it. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

It should be a better game than you think. The last two games were a lot closer than the score has shown. Cumberland County has got to score in the red zone!

  16. u know, if u look back on the pages, pretty much the only people sayin bledsoe is gonna "take" it or win... theyre from bledsoe go figure

I am from Cumberland County and I think Bledsoe should get the win. And for the record if CCHS and Stone play, CCHS will get the win this year!

  17. Last week was the most pathetic play calling i have ever witnessed, 3 times the jets was on the 1 yard line and what do the coaches call, down the middle.. Pathetic...Those boys deserve better than that..

It was pretty bad play calling, but is wasn't just last week. It has been for the last three years! Although, last week looked even worse since we were so close more than once. How many times this year have we been in the red zone and come away with no points. It was three times last week, if I'm not mistaken!
