Is everyone speechless after last nights fiasco or what? The jets played a very beatable team last night. I want the o-line to know they did a much improved job. There are no excuses for the qb. What was it four picks? I hate to say it, but he was the winkest link other than the coaches last night. I am not opposed of trying to improve for the future, but they are just hurting the kid for the long run. He has potential, but should not be starting yet. You cannot tell me there are no other players who can throw just as good, but are more athletic. All players put in great effort last nite, you can blame that one on the coaches. GO JETS!

Even in the past bad years, the Jets would hit. I haven't saw it the past couple of years. Does anybody know if they hit in practice? I know some of those boys can lay the wood and they need to show they still can.

alot of peoples numbers are better, but their strength cannot be utilized unless they collide with defenders rather than making a "catching" type of tackle after watching the games numerous times on dvd, Ive noticed our players get in good position but dont punish people like they should, football is not a contact sport, its a collision sport!!!

They arm tackle! The jets have to become ruthless, nasty, and play with some emotion. It is football, you are supposed to be that way! The defense does a decent job most of the time. From what I have saw, most of the opponents scores have came from big plays. We have got to rap up and punish somebody. Hit them before they hit us.

What can Meigs expect? How big is CC? Who are there playmakers?

As Jet fans, we never know what to expect. They have ran several offensive sets this year, with virtually no success. The team is small overall, but there are some decent sized kids. The o-line seems to be the weakest link. Which intern makes the rest of the offense suffer. I really haven't seen a playmaker yet. The team is young and makes stupid mistakes. The team shows promise at times, especially defense. If they get it together it is their game to win.

That is right, you do. Don't worry about that garbage, just lay it all out friday. Your team does have a chance Friday, believe it. I will be there to support your team and so will alot of others. I believe in your players and so do alot of others. Go Jets!

not talking about big fat boys that can't move,u need 6'3" 240 that can run,and they are some out there the trick is to get them to play ball.Stone is in the same boat,but they will beat cchs cause they out coach them.Stone has no football talent either.Iam for Cumberland County but years ago this problem started and no one stopped it.It was when Martin Jr High Was turned in Too Martin Elem.

I agree with jet4ever. Alot of these kids haven't really improved since elementary ball and it is not thier fault. It is COACHING!! They players do look confused at times and definetely need motivation. They have to be down about themselves. Their is very little emotion from the players and coaches. This affects some of these kids in all aspects of their lives. They need support and something has to be done about the politics in Cumberland County.

As for badblood, I agree that there are other big and talented kids in Cumberland County. The coach, whoever it may be needs to be enticing these kids to the field. But, for you saying their is no football talent at CCHS or stone. That is insane! There are several good players for both teams they just have to be utilized. I do not care who the quaterback or running back is, if they are getting tackled as they get the ball then they cannot do anything. The o-line need alot of improvement!! But, that does not mean that they are not talented. They just need work.

One thing they need to do this offseason is hit the weight room hard, that's one of the things that wrong with them, they aren't strong enough to make tackles, when you see 4 or 5 jets trying to tackle a guy and he drags them 10 or 15 yards before they get him down,which i have seen a bunch this year. But the players have got to want to hit the weight room. And why don't they use those big boys they got on the o line, i'm sure the QB would like that, they got several about 6 ft and over 260 lbs. i set there at coffee county and watched the QB take a beating on the ground, while the line they used at coffee county didn't work for them, which didn't have any of their big boys in it till the 4th quarter.

I agree, they need to work on strength and speed. Someone posted earlier that the team strength was as good as it ever was. I do not think so. I know in years past that the teams were alot stronger.

How good is Meigs County? Their is record is decent, but their region seens so so. I could be wrong. Does CCHS have as legit shot?

I agree, but their 3A region consists of better teams than our 5A region. They are probably in the toughest 3A region in the state.

If you want to become a teacher to coach football, then you will be one terrible teacher in the classroom. Good luck getting hired telling a principle coaching "is pretty much the entire reason I want to teach."

Why don't you and Kane go down there and confront Coach Shultz directly and impart on him all of your football wisdom. Then he can crush your skull like a grape.

Yes, the main reason I want to teach is to be a coach, but that does not mean I won't be an effective teacher. When i do something, I do it right. Also, i do not nessessarly think coach shultz is the problem. He is one man surrounded by sad excuses for assistants. He doesn't seem like a man who would be into crushing skulls.

If you can do much better as you say you can, then apply for the coaching job! Good luck however to the Jets for the remainder of the season.

Working on that, I am at MTSU working on my degree in Physical Eduaction. I would definetly like to coach high school football. It is pretty much the entire reason I want to teach.

Why don't somebody buy those coaches a Coaching football for dummies book, they sure do need one. If these Coaches stick around, Cumberland County will never win another game. -13 yards offense the whole game. Something needs done and done NOW.

I wanted to say that Frankin Co. is on the verge of being a decent team. They have several narrow losses to good teams. That is not to say that the Jets can't win. Also, I think that Meigs Co is a very winnable game. Work hard this week and play smart Firday. This week may be win number one. When you play, play with emotion. Do not lose confidence if they score. All the games i have seen, the first time the other team scores everyone seems to get down. Make sure tackles and you will stay in the game. No penalties and hold on to the ball!! GO JETS!!

I heard that Coffee County was going to dress their middle school team for tonight and give the varsity a night off. I still pick coffee by 42!

I guess it would not be the first time this season. I heard that is who they sent to play you all, as well. I guess that is why they barely squaked by you guys 40-0.

Just seen your freshmen play last night and things do not look good for the Jets. Warren County freshmen dominated from the start.

Pioneer95, there was a time when Warren county was worse than CCHS. We still have to lose evey game for a couple more seasons to compete with Warren county's losing steak.

Cchsjet45, i also wanted to say if you are who I think you are, you are a good ball player. I have seen some good things out of you, so keep up the good work. Stick with football, I believe things will get better. Work hard in the off season and try to get more guys to come out and play. You know as well as I do that there are other good athletes in that school that need to be out there playing. Do not let anyone give up, be a leader. Good Luck and GO JETS!!

Play hard boys!! This may be the last game for sports in Cumberland Co.! Our wonderful county commissioners have refused to fund the school system with enough money to run the system! So there may be NO school on Monday. I would Like to thank the commissioners who voted not to fund education, they such fine up standing people and leaders, but I bet they are in church very Sunday!! It's been fun, Hey since the county want need any of the schools anymore maybe some concerned citizens can take over a vacant property and start a private school!! /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":angry:" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Man, I agree in some ways, but how much money does the school system need. Isn't 42 million enough or does the school board need more to put down the toilet. And for cchsjet45 I glad you feel that way, but I know there are better coaches out there. Just because he has coached at PHS does not mean he is a coach. Why don't all the people who want to coach, just come out and stand on the sideline? Because that is what is going on in Cumberland County.

By the way, who is the other red headed guy who stands down there? I guess he is another quality jet coach leading the way for 18 losses in a row. I want the jets to have success and build a quality program. But that will never happen with these coaches on the field. I wish they would prove me wrong, but they won't.

Coach Zazzaro would be a huge addition but he has been very involved in stone athletics to date so I dont forsee him coming over here.

I do agree with you, but hey anything is worth a shot. At this point there is nothing to lose. I plan on talking to him soon. I really want things to get better for CCHS.

That is not a bad idea. There are also other proven coaches in this community as well. For instance Dan Vanwinkle and Rocky Zazzaro. I do believe that all these men are still receiving checks from the Cumberland County School system. My point being they are still around.

Oh and another thing about Gora. He must not have played long in college, because he graduated from Roane State and I know they do not have a team. Now, this is just hear say, but I did hear that he coaches like he played. NOT VERY GOOD!!

I do not have a problem with Gora personally, I just believe that the players deserve to have real coaches. The team does not need elementary coaches, they already play like an elementary team. Do you think Riverdale or Maryville have volunteers as Assistant Coaches? I highly doubt it. As for Heady, yes he was at Hillsboro. But, how many other schools?

I do think that Shultz, if given a fair shot might be okay. He seems like a good man, but with no support from the people that matter then it is a dead end. Like I have said before, he needs to be surrounded by quality assistants.

As for coach Wattenbarger, I do agree that he is one of the best coaches Cumberland County has seen. He took CCHS to the playoffs more times than anyone else. Yes, he had some bad years, but that is because he played good teams. And if people remember right the teams competed most of the time. I can promise his teams scored more than 21 points in a season. I would have to argue that we play in one of the worst regions in 5A now. When Watt was there they played in a very good region.

I just saw this thread and had to reply. It wouldn't matter what level you guys were playing at. you lost to york and stone lost to bledsoe in the same night. your game with york wasn't even close and you want to make excuses. it seems to me that there are no tough guys in cumberland county including your coach. someone said you had a good offensive coach; are you kidding you guys hardly ever score and even one of your own said he changes offenses alot. that says he doesn't know what he is talking about. if you want to win it is simple just as it is in bledsoe county. hire good people and let them surround themselves with good people. keep the parents out of the way with they exception of being fans and supporters and make the kids work. don't give me the crazy excuse that they won't work because the right coach who has proven he can build can win anywhere. it is done in college and i know it can be done in high school as well. i have to admit that when i played crossville was always tough and physical and it was alot of fun to play

As far as saying Rocky Gora is the best coach, you have to be kidding!! He should be the first to go and we need no more volunteers. Cumberland County needs to open the check book and bring some people in here that know what they are doing.

I do not think the elementary schools are the problem. Look at Cobb Co. Georgia, 6th, 7th and 8th middle schools and NO! sports of any kind and some of the High Schools have great programs. The biggest problem here is the split of the schools. Go back to the 2005 season, the last year before the split. The Jets went 2-8, but look at the scores, Bearden loss by 1, Lenoir City loss by ll and we should have won it, Lincoln loss by 5, Coffee we won. In 05 the Jets played alot of sophmores, several started. I think had we not had the split the last 2 years would have been pretty good, but now we have to start over. Both schools are in the wrong regions. Another thing at SMHS is we just do not have any big boys. Every school we have played, with the exception of CCHS and Bledsoe, all have lines who are a head taller and 30-50 pounds heavier. Maybe the elementary schools need to order the "special chicken" for the boys only!

 

At SMHS we have 1000 kids enrolled and we have 48-50 boys playing football. This is freshman, jv and varsity. I think we should have at least 80! The big question is why are the kids not playing??

I just wanted to reply to your question why are kids not playing. I think alot of them do not want to play because Cumberland County schools always lose. I have talked to a few kids at CCHS and they don't play because they don't like the coaches. I do not know if that is the situation at SMHS, because I happen to have a lot of respect for your coaches, but it may be. Some kids do not love the game as much as others and they believe why put in the effort for no results and I don't half blame them.

I definetly agree with the elementary school thing and believe that there needs to be a middle school. I think that should have been done before the new high school was built.

Another big problem in Cumberland County, is a lot of people just do not care about the success of team They just care if there son or daughter plays. It is pure politics, if you kiss the coachs butt you will play. To me that is not how it should be. We need a coach in here that will get rid of this.

These boys are better players than the record shows. We need someone who will put these boys in a position to win. The JV team looks half way decent, but then again we are playing everyone but seniors.

The Jets do have some good young players and that is the bright spot about the situation. The sad thing is there is more good players in that school that won't play for various reasons. Whoever is the coach next year needs to get some of these other athletes to play somehow. Another thing is to try to keep current players from quiting. I hope they all stick around but we will have to see.

I also agree about the pay situation. The Cumberland County school system is a joke! Not to mention the Cumberland County government is a joke! If the government would allow businesses to pay better then maybe people, other than retirees would move there. This would intern possibly bring in more students and better athletes.

The people in charge get paid well enough though. Mrs. VanWinkle(Director of Schools) is paying herself enough to pay three beginning teachers. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Yes, I am very aware they do not need to be in 5A. The thing is they could not do any better even in 2A as we will find out this coming Friday. Let's not forget their 3A and 4A losses or should I say spankings. The boys on the team are better football players than has been shown. They need to get rid of the volunteer coaches and surround Shultz or another head coach with qualified help. The boys deserve better!
