  1. Williamson County is the wealthiest county in the state of Tennessee. It has 7 high schools including Brentwood; Centennial; Fairview; Franklin; Independence; Page and Ravenwood.

It also has a unique local rule that allows for Open Enrollement based on athletics. What that means is that it does not matter where you live, you can attend and play sports for any of the schools. It is the only county in the state that allows for this to occur.

Brentwood and Page were the first 2 schools to figure out how this could help their volleyball programs. But now all of the schools have learned how to best use the system.

Impact is the state's biggest volleyball club, which generates hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.

Impact works with the high schools, and essentially runs the top programs. Impact places its coaches in the high schools, who then "coach" the teams. This gives these programs a HUGE advantage over other schools.

Impact reaps a HUGE financial advantage.

What this means is that the high school team essentially gets year round play.

I would offer that this is not healthy for the high school sport, or for volleyball in general. This topic is never allowed to be discussed but look at where the Impact coaches, and the people that make the most money, go. Brentwood; Page, Ravenwood and Franklin.

As a parent, there is a tremendous amount of pressure to play for club, or go "off the island" as it relates to playing for you high school.

It upsets me that this "suggestion" gets slammed as sour grapes whenever it is raised. Everyone can't afford to play club.

I loved my daughters time at Page, and most of the parents, but the pressure is there. As we get ready to do it again I think it needs to be more out in the open.

Has anyone ever looked into the Impact situation, and how the rules allow for such close interaction?

I just want to clarity one thing on the Open Enrollment issue. Go to www.wcs.edu, because the only two high schools that have Open Enrollment for this school year are Page and Centennial, and the priority is given to Independence and Ravenwood for both schools. Based on what it says on the website, there are certain stipulations for what grades can transfer in. Now in order to transfer out of zone to either of these schools, students still have to sit out a year of athletics unless they actually move into that school zone. The deadline to apply for the transfers was May 15th, so any other transfers for any of the other schools was after that date but there is no guarantee they can transer in. No other high schools are allowed to accept out of zone transfers. Only students that transfer into that school zone are allowed. Someone correct me if that has changed within the last week, but that is what I have understood it to be.

  2. If that is so, the last 4 teams need to be corrected as far as District records are concerned

I believe Ravenwood beat Hillsboro so Ravenwood would be 1-1, without the scores from last week. Hillsboro I believe beat Hillwood, so they are 1-3, and I believe Hillwood and Overton are both 0-4. If the Hillsboro and Hillwood records are incorrect, someone please fix.

  3. If you click on any of the teams for this district it will show you the standings on the website.

    Brentwood 10-4(4-0)

    Centennial 7-5(4-0)

    Franklin 9-4(2-2)

    Independence 4-2(2-2)

    Ravenwood 8-1(0-1)

    Hillsboro 0-2(0-2)

    Hillwood 0-2(0-2)

    Overton 0-3(0-3)

The parentheses are the district records. Hillsboro played Hillwood tonight, but I don't know who won that game due to the Centennial/Ravenwood match going on at the same time. I believe the CHS/RHS scores were 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-15. If those are wrong, I apologize and someone please correct. The CHS/HHS scores were 25-13, 25-17, 25-6 I believe.

Brentwood plays Centennial next Thursday, September 11 at Hillwood at 4. Should be a pretty good match...

I don't think all of these records are correct though, as all of the teams have played 4 district games through today, so if anyone can update the records, I know we would all appreciate it. Thanks.

  4. Scores and district Standings would be good for the fans I think. Don't know what objections they would have but they will tell us if they do.

  5. District 11AAA has these matches scheduled:

9-4 Quad match @ Frankln High School that has Brentwood, Franklin, Overton and Independence 4:00-5:00

9-4 Quad match @ Centennial high School that has Hillwood, Hillsboro, Ravenwood and Centennial 4:00-5:30

District Standings are not complete on this site nor are records and if possible if anyone knows, please post.

Centennial beat Hillwood in 3, and beat Ravenwood in 4. I can get you scores tomorrow. They are 4-0 now in their district.

I received some updates last night and this morning (Sunday) from PHargis, Smyrna Coach Brett Young, and Collierville Coach Kenny G and could possibly receive more later.

I will wait until later today or tomorrow to come up with some sort of final analysis.

Results updated for Father Ryan above - Thanks bb317

Results corrected for Centennial/Ooltewah to show win for Centennial - Thanks TNVball1220

Hey I have one more score for Centennial. They split with Father Ryan, 24-26, 25-22. Sorry I'm late on getting it to you.

  7. You are correct. Got the info and thought Centennial lost. Good game and PM will make the correction

They played well that game. I think they had a little revenge in mind since Ooltewah put them out in the Semi's at state last year. Great job on the weekend PM and everyone keeping up with scores.

  8. Sorry I had to leave you to head to Clarksville for other volleyball!!!Let's go Peay! The Irish Split with Centennial at BGA then beat Rossview and franklin. Lady Irish still trying to gel, Coach C played 6- 8different lineups trying to find the best combinations. (as did many teams I'm sure)

Although only there for a short time saturday Collierville was a very good well coached team. Ensworth better than I expected a team to look out for. Centennial had some moments... they have yet to appear with two starters who do not play on the weekends for religous reasons. Brentwood looked like I expected kinda like Ryan trying hard to replace a few great ones. Looks like jamboree time is about over so let the games begin in a week!!!

    Thanks again PM great job...

One correction. Centennial beat Ooltewah the first game 25-14, not vice versa.

  9. Brentwood over Ooltewah 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-20)

    Centennial over Houston 3-0 (25-19,26-24, 25-23)

    GO DISTRICT 11!!

    Centennial vs. Ooltewah 9AM

    Brentwood vs. Dobyns Bennett 9AM

Looks to be some great volleyball tomorrow.

  10. I seriously have to think this may be the weakest field in the past 8 years. If Brentwood doesnt win the State I will be shocked.

Harpua, I think you might be shocked come Friday afternoon. I actually believe this might be one of the most well-rounded state competition within the last few years. Some people may say Brentwood is the favorite, but honestly any of the eight teams can honestly win the title. It doesn't matter what they have done up until this point. All that matters is this week, and I guarantee every team out there is going to leave everything on the court. I wouldn't discount any teams this week and this might just be the first state tournament where nobody is going to be able to predict the outcome.

  11. I think playing two state championship games at the same time is absurd. These girls have worked so hard all season and they deserve their time in the spotlight. TSSAA needs to change it and only make one championship game at a time. If MTSU cant give up their arena for the time needed, maybe TSSAA should look into having it elsewhere.

  12. Still a newbie here...who knows when and where the state tournament is going to be held? Or sub-state(?) for that matter?

STATE is Oct 24, 25 and 26. Pool Play is on the 24th and 25th, Semis and Finals are on Friday the 26th. If you go to the TSSAA website and click on Girls Volleyball Tournament Schedule it will show you. It's held at MTSU and at Blackman High School, but Semis and Finals are at MTSU.

Sub-state is next Thursday I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong. And Sub-state is held at whichever team wins a particular region. The second place team from the other region goes to that host, and vice versa.

  13. I think you might need to double check your standings. District 11-AAA probably has five of the BEST teams in the State and on any given day any of them could win. You don't even have Centennial or Franklin mentioned. Most teams are split win a 1-1 win over all the other teams in that district. Centennial gave Brentwood their only loss, and beat Independence both times they have met in their district matches. Franklin and Centennial split, as did Centennial and Ravenwood. Centennial also beat Page rather easily if I remember from reading the scores on here. Maybe change the volleyball games you watch and go to a district where on any given night in that district you will be guaranteed great volleyball. Basically if you read on here under the 11-AAA quad matches for today, these are the standings:

    Bwood 11-1

    Centennial 9-3

    Ravenwood 8-4

    Independence 7-5

    Franklin 7-5

Ooltewah and Greenbriar should definitely be somewhat high on your list as well. Maybe your rankings should be tweaked just a little bit....
