  1. They have beat us what 1 or 2 times in the last 50 years. This Friday aint gonna be the third time either. Sory about the double quote thing.

It was 2 times, the last being in 1992. Gibbs was 10-2 and went to 2nd round of playoffs. For us back then, it was the equivilent of Appalachia State over Michigan or maybe bigger. Glad to see the program move in a different direction after so many years of futility. Maybe they get back on track and compete in the upcoming years, and maybe pull of win #3 for the next 20 years. Good luck to both teams, and maybe Halls can get another shot at Maryville in the playoffs.

  2. I saw both teams play WB...I don't remember much from the DB/WB match up as it was early in the season. All of the comments about Sterling are correct; he is the real deal. Against WB, Farragut was able to keep drives alive on 3rd and 5-6 by throwing underneath. Our corners would give a 10 yard cushion, and keep giving the 1st down throwing to the WR on the right side, #9 I think. That was the danger.....that's why Sterling became so effective. The WB "D" would have Sterling stopped short of a first down, but that little 4-5 yard pass kept the drives alive and gave Sterling more opportunities to run. On the flip side, I also agree with another post that said you would have to score significantly to win. I think the winning team will have to be around 30.

    Good luck to both teams /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> ......and I couldn't stand the "you can't stop him" cheer either.....but you know what.....we couldn't.

No offense to DB; I would like to see you win, but if WB is able to play well against Bearden and maybe get a turnover or two and come out with a win, I would love to get another crack at Farragut. 2 seasons 3 close losses.....I was at all 3. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

  3. The officiating crew was just plain awful. The one that got me was the facemask foul for 15 yards. Our player clearly grabbed a corner of the helmet, immediately and I mean immediately let go, and yet gets a 15 yard personal.

Plus, I cannot stand refs that want to be the center of attention when making a call. The head ref was so deliberate in his calls that he acted biased and flamboyant when he signaled the call. They should teach refs to ref the game and let the kids be the stars, not some attention-starved zebra. He had some sort of self-esteem issues.

Does anyone have the stats for the game?

The stats are usually on www.wbir.com on prep extra section, but last nights game is not there. However, there is an article on knoxnews.com that lists some of the stats.

  4. Can you be cloned? When I umpired baseball I felt the same way. It didn't matter to me if it was a little league game or a college game. The game I was at was the most important game being played. I sure hope you're at Indy Friday night. Have a good game.

I agree; the game is about the players, not the coaches, fans or referees. I was a varsity basketball official for 4 years, and since I didn't hang out with the guys, I just worked hard, did my job, and went home to my wife, I was looked down upon. The only reason I got into refereeing was to stay close to the game. I love seeing the excitement when a kid scores for the first time, or the calm composure of a kid who just scored his or her 1000th point. I got sick of hearing the other officials say things at halftime like "that kid isn't getting any more calls from me" or "swallow your whistle so we can get this game over." Believe or not, officials do make calls in basetball games to keep the score difference an odd number so it won't go into overtime.

For those of you officiating out there that do it for the right reasons, it shows, and thank you. For the rest of you, grow up, and have fun out there. Then the money becomes the bonus, and you do it because you enjoy it. If you can't enjoy it, then stop, because you are robbing the kids enjoyment of it.

Ya'll can have your soap box back now.

The #1 seed from Region 2 will be home (should they win) for the 1st 2 rounds. Round 3, the Region 1 seed has home field advantage. So the question for WB fans is, do you think a brackett with Bearden, Campbell County, and Ooltewah, is a better brackett (having Campbell County at home, Bearden on the road, and then home for round 3, again asumming that you win) than being the #1 seed, and having Jefferson County at home, Farragut or Kingsport DB at home, and then Bearden on the road in round 3?

The semi-finals for the region 1 2 winner is played on the road at the region 3 4 winner.

I'm not smart enough to where you can click on it and go there. I am computer illiterate

Here's a another link ....it is a pdf. 2008 is Regions 2's year. This year is Region 3's year. The only "away" game would be Riverdale (or winner of their bracket) prior to Murf. for the winner of Region 2.
