  1.

Throw in the 'kees from Greenback. That's 30% of the poll with probably an 80% chance to win it.

I agree.Greenback returns a very good ball team this yr.I saw them beat Pigeon Forge in the spring scrimmage they are much more physical than yrs past the new coach is doing a great job.The Oline is big and fast and the #1 is a dandy tailback!Get the QB position nailed down and they will surprise alot of folks.I thought the Dline would suffer from losing Disney but I was very impressed with them in the spring.
  2. Now schedule Alcoa...

with this play off system Ridge will never schedule Alcoa,he is a numbers guy he will schedule games that will get him in the playoffs did he same at GB.I dont know if you can blame him really. If you want to get to the playoffs you have to win 4 or 5 games the Alcoa game will not happen!I personally think that is why GB couldnt get over the hump Ridge has never won a big game-Grace 0-3,south pitt 0-1,Coalfield 0-2.Always scheduled team he thought he could beat.IMO.
  3. wbbd, are the comments below you talking football or just being classy? please don't attempt to use big words you don't understand. A wise man once said it's better to be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. Just trying to help a fellow football fan dude. :thumb:

Did Greenback get some new players or something, because that team we played last year was lucky to leave our place with a Win. The 2012 Wartburg football team would beat last year's team by 4 or 5 touchdowns.

We had some injuries later in the season when we played oliver Springs. Oliver Springs wasn't as good early in the season when you all played them like they were later when we played them.

but I would advise you Greenbackers to tighten up those chin straps, because we plan on busting some heads when we come down.

Dang that was a tough team to pick up. :roflol:

What great tradition? I remember a few years ago when they were in the same district wit Sunbright, Oakdale and Coalfield and they wouldn't win many games.

when does spring ball start and who and when are the scrimmages?

  4. well i dont give many predictions, but i will say they are preparing as if they are playing for a state run.line is getting big and strong and are going to be in the best shape we have ever seen our lineman in.A lot rides on if the QB situation will get worked out early in spring and i believe it will.skill psitions other than Qb are back, all of the O-line is back other than Mccarter.they will be succesful, spring will tell us more. This could be one of the best teams GB has ever fielded.I will say this and it is no prediction, they will be one of the fastest teams(lineman and skill)in the state.Looking forward to the pads popping-cant wait!

how do you all see the QB situation working out who is in the running?oandB i know your son is a lineman, who do you think will be the extra lineman taking Mccarters spot? How deep is our line?Any stand outs in the weight room?At the baseball game fri and football let out and some of them boys are getting huge!Sorry so many question but i traveled alot last year and hope to see more games this yr.
  5. What great tradition? I remember a few years ago when they were in the same district wit Sunbright, Oakdale and Coalfield and they wouldn't win many games. Greenback is a good team no doubt, but as young as we were last year and how loaded they were supposed to be we should have beat them. It will be different this season. I am just speaking the truth. Sorry if I hurt feelings on here. I just bleed blue and I know how good our team can be this season.

OandB you hit it right on the head this is a young person with no clue about east tenn football,Bill satterfield was one of the winningest coaches in single A fooball in his 20 something years at Greenback.A State championship in 87 multiple playoff victories, thats a pretty strong tradition. This is the way it goes when a team has a winning season(how many winning seasons have you actually had?)all the suuden they start calling other teams out.You are a foolish person.I will say you all will be lucky to win 6 games this season!i guess we will have to treat him like ole tiger if you dont pay him no attention he will go away.haha.Good luck Kees!

  6. Its waaaay too early for this. However, I would make a guess based on east/west.

    East

    1 Gordonsville

    2 (tie) South Pittsburg

    2 (tie) Greenback

    2 (tie) Coalfield

    5 Copper Basin

    5. Lookout Valley

    West.

    1. Wayne County (King of the Hill)

    2. (tie) Union City

    2. (tie) Lake County

    4. Jo Byrnes

    5. Moore County

    6. Collinwood

    6. Huntingdon

i could see this list very easy.Gb returns between 15 and 20 seniors this yr dont know the actual number.they also have near the same number of incoming jrs,and a nice group of sophmores that look to have a ton of tallent and got a lot of playing time, they return the offensive line and all the skill positions minus the qb.As some of the other gb posters have said in previous threads if they can develope a qb gb will be hard win for anybody!
  7. I believe South Pitt and Gordonsville will be head and shoulders above everyone else next year.

greenback will be right there with both of you, they return about 17 seniors and close to the same number of juniors, also had a really good freshman class come up also.thats one of the reasons we didnt blow out or score a ton of points on some of the weaker teams on our schedule,we rotated 8 or 9 offensive lineman and 4 or 5 defensive lineman(most were sohmores) in every game but south pitt, that game we didnt rotate just let the big boys play the whole game and that turned out pretty good for us,showed the kids what they can do when they put their all into a whole game.If they can develope a QB they will be right there in the hunt.

  8. Who did they scrimmage?

moore county, greenback, and chattanooga grace.Grace had a good scrimmage early, followed by greenback, moore county just didnt look very good just yet.Greenback hit their stride about an hour in and pretty much out played both teams.Grace looked the best early.Grace is definatly a better ball team this year.Greenback was the better team in the moore county scrimmage.Greenback is a young ball club,if good things happen early and get some confidence they will be tough to handle. They have a tough schedule early..

  9. On tallent alone you all should win the district, last year tallent is what got you to the state along with alot of LUCK,but you have to have some kind of luck every now and then. The problem you all have is in your coaching-just like football, always have alot of tallent but under achieve with the exception of last year, you all over acheived.Sounds wierd but it is the truth, the love kid should be a dominate force in Bball and Fball, but he has never been a stand out in either one,Inman is a grear athlete and stands out in both sports, which ever way he goes so goes the team, your coaches cannot develope kids into players,Inmans always been good, didnt have to develope that one. This district is way down, you all shouldnt have a problem getting to the district finals,I dont know much about the region but some great players graduated last year.So you all are my pick in the district if your coaches dont screw it up!I really dont see you all at the state tourn, region 1 has some really good teams.

Hey thugster, pretty good analasys of the harriman team, wouldnt you say, everthing came true.I think you guys are right i do need to change my name to NOSTRADOMAS(dude who predicted the future)in case you dont know who he was.Yes you all will have a good baseball team, that is one team that has some good coaching.-compliment-!

  10. Wartburg won 71-57. I must say this was one of the worst reffed games that I have seen. The refs decided the tempo of the game, not the teams. At one point the foul count was Wartburg-10 Harriman-2 and that was in the first quarter with 3 minutes left. The third quarter was the same way. Harriman was in the double bonus the WHOLE game from the 3 minute mark in the first and about the 2 minute mark in the 3rd. Fountain fouled out with 5 minutes left in game, Shannon fouled out with 3 minutes left and Goodman in the final minute. The majority of the fouls called were ticky tack that on any other night wouldn't had been fouls. The refs did make the fouls "even" at the end of each half by calling fouls on Harriman that were iffy at best. So an overall poor reffed game all around. If Harriman hit at least 50% of their foul shots then the game would've been closer and probably a win for Harriman. Poor foul shooting for the whole team. But I must give Wartburg huge credit. Their bench stepped up huge in the 4th quarter with having to play without their big three in Fountain, Shannon, and Goodman (Goodman only played a total of 4 minutes in the first 3 quarters). The Wartburg reserves grew up in a big way last night and Harriman showed that, while they are a good team, a lack of foul shooting and jump shooting will cost them this season (I counted a total of maybe 4 true jump shots hit maybe a few more, the rest was just slashing to the basket.)

Went to this game expecting to see the two best teams in region 2,wartburg reserves did play well considering,if wartburg starters stay in game this one could have been alot uglier than it was!Harriman still has alot of tallented players just not putting on the court.

  11. I expect big things from this harriman group this year.. made it to state last year and didnt play to there potential in that game in my opinion they could have one that one! I expect em to get to great start.. and there single a student section they bring to most games can be rowdy!

  12. Maj- the fact that there is no interest in wrestling and a very soft/weak schedule is an aspect of the Knoxville wrestling area that reflects on the coaches.

WrestlingGod- I hope you are one of the good ones, but the truth is that there is a lack of evidence in support of solid middle school coaches and programs. Don't know what else to say, maybe we have vastly different opinions on what a good middle school program should be and what a strong understanding of the basic fundamentals of wrestling is for middle schoolers.

I'm not on here to start fights, but to start meaningful conversation that could lead to positive changes.

WOW!I didnt know Barrack Obama knew anything about middle and HS wrestling!

  13. I think you guys are been dumbfounded because harriman went 4 games in a row with a touchdown pass and and then threw another one the game after that... and kees101 sayin they have no passin game but harriman threw for over 100 against them with a touchdown and another pass play got to the 1yd line... and last week they threw it 13 or 14 times with 2td and over 100 yds... yes they do like to run the ball but they have thrown it more and when they do throw it they are successful most of the time and they do a good job at it when they have time to throw, which there line did a great job of friday night!

Listen harriman has 580 yrds passing for the season, thats 64 yrds a game, thats what we are saying, thats not much of a passing game at all, granted you all run the ball well, well inman does really well.If you have to rely on the pass against any body in our district you will lose, especialy against rockwood,if you all run like you did against us,you should win about any game, but rockwood will be the best team you have faced to date!

  14. If Grace and Harriman win, Harriman and Greenback qualify. If Greenback and Harriman win, Greenback and Harriman qualify. If Grace and Rockwood win, Rockwood and Harriman qualify. If Greenback and Rockwood win, Greenback and Rockwood qualify.

Our coaches had better count their blessings that grace cheated the past 6 years(yes i still count the wannamaker kid)because if they had not got caught we would have not made the playoffs this year, after friday night i expect rockwood to win,and i expect us to lose at grace,we are just too beat up,with out seymore in the lineup, and also heard we will be playing some very young players at very key posisitions,it will probably get ugly quick!Very young with not much experience, should have been playing some of these young guys in our 28 point wins this year,it always comes back to bite you at the end of the year when the older kids are beat up.Same scenario we had last year against grace.

  15. Rockwood is coming off a dominating win of Bledsoe. Harriman coming off a heartbreaker v. Coalfield.

IMO: This game will come down to who's defense steps up and if either side can get a score on Special teams.

Both offenses are based on ball control. I expect a low scoring game with RW coming out on top; unless Harriman flops and lays down like they did last year.

Offense: Advantage--Rockwood--Avg 25.6 pts a game. Much more of a threat to throw and run.

Harriman--Avg 26.3 pts a game. One dimensional, not much of a threat to throw

Defense: Advantage--Rockwood--Avg 14 pts a game. Simple fact that they won't have to defend the pass

Harriman--Avg 21.2 pts a game. Will struggle to defend the RW passing offense.

    Special Teams: Advantage--Harriman-- One word(Inman)

Rockwood--Has an opportunity to negate this advantage with careful Kick/Punt

    placement.

    Harriman 12

    Rockwood 20

Well with greenback playing both teams this year, even with us beating rockwood, though they didnt play well against us,they are the best team in our district, harriman came in and that game we didnt play well and they spanked our butts, but we are a very inconsistant team, rockwood will win this game i think by a easy two scores, they are a very balanced team, harriman is pretty much one sided although inman is a very tallented young man,but he is all they really have, cant throw the ball at all.

  16. did the qb being out hurt greenback that bad. tellico had the brakes beat of them this year.

QB play didnt hurt GB against tellico, team did not play well at all, starting tailback went down early 80% of the offense, starting tackle who is also the starting middle linebacker(over 90 tackles in 8 weeks)went down first quarter, may have lost the seymore kid for the year, not much depth, team is young, same as last year not giving the young players any playing time, even in the blow outs, this is catching up with them!If seymore is out they are in trouble.Tellico actually played very well, had nothing to lose.

  17. What about the QB? You not think he has taken any pressure off of Seymour? Tell them to throw the ball down the middle and not the fade all the time. He is usually running for his life and has 400 yds passing and 400 running. Don't get me wrong, I believe Seymour is the man, but I believe they need to get the ball down the field. I believe they need to find the tight end some and believe that J Miller , B Williams and E Anderson can make some big plays. Just my opinion.

well first of all,as of right now we might as well be running the single wing, they are putting eight and nine in the box and daring us to throw it and we can't,we have to stand in the pocket and be a little patient, the receivers are open,it looks like he knows where he is going before the play begins, woodard last week just watched his eyes and broke where he was looking as soon as we broke the huddle,as far as the pressure off of richard,i would say some, just because of the fact he is a fearless QB,but he will be a hurt QB if he doessnt make the defense respect his arm, every post you refer to the tight end,we are a more dangerous team with the field spread, thats been proven,it opens up more lanes if we can't find a receiver,i agree across the middle is open most of the time, they seem to run good routes, but we have to think pass first run after(on pass plays).I really think this kid has a strong arm and can be very accurate, but he needs patience!Williams hasnt looked the same since rockwood, doesnt hold his blocks long enough, just doesnt seem real happy to be out there,he takes himself off of defense, the kids an excellent looking athlete we need him on the field 100%.The tight end probably has the best hands on the team, but when we get tight they load the box and thats when we will have to be patient if we pass in that situation because they usually send the house.

  18. I always looked forward to Greenback week, always a little smack talkin' but nothing to outta hand. After all that's part of the game, RESPECTFULLY talkin' trash back and forth with other fans (or players on the field as the case may be). I've got a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth about this rivalry not being continued. Not real sure why the 'kees chief didn't want to continue. It'll be interesting to see who they add next year & see if drive time or "logistics", as it were, is the issue or if, like so many other teams, TSSAA's playoff plan has something to do with the selection.

wow!cant believe we wont be playing the indians for a while, always a good game, good luck OHS!
