  1. Please post comments on any team from this conference. What is thoughts on the outcome for the year. I know its real early, just looking for input.

Teams involved: Elizabethton, Happy Valley, Johnson County, Sullivan East, Sullivan North, and Unicoi County.

i'd say that most people will be picking sullivan east to win this conference. they lost one starter and one sub from a team that finished 4th in the AAA conference last year. unicoi lost 4 starters but do return one of the best players in the area in logan lyle. don't know much about other teams??? /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  2. Any thoughts on teams from this conference?

Teams are: Elizabethton, Happy Valley, Johson County, Sullivan East, Sullivan North, and Unicoi County.

Top two teams will be elizabethton and unicoi. the edge probably has to go to elizabethton with the transfer of cara bowling and their good freshmen group coming in. unicoi does have 4 starters returning with 3 good freshmen coming in. seems like johnson county had alot of young girls on their team last year too??? /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  3. I heard that Kara Bowling has transfered from Happy Valley to Elizabethton???????????? Anyone know anything on this???? Havn't had this confirmed for sure so that is why i'm asking???? Anyone care to share any information????????? /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  4. i think that Kara Woods (p) for Unicoi County needs to be mentioned in this discussion. she is only a sophomore but had an unbelievable year and run at the state tournament. She finished the year at 44-4 and had over 400 strikeouts. the team only gave up 42 runs all year in the 52 total games they played. she pitched every game of the postseason and gave up 5 runs in the 12 games. she only gave up 4 runs to goodpasture in 3 games. most people on here said that the devils couldn't hit with them but i don't think people knew just how good she was coming in. i am from unicoi so a little biased, maybe??? i am not the coach though, only a fan. our newspapers do a good job of covering our girls and that is where i have gotten my stats. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  5. No, I agree with what you said. sometimes hard decisions must be made. I just hate it when the female athletes are put in positions like that.

    Thanks!

i know this is the softball site but other sports are also affected by this. i know that there were tennis matches and a track meet scheduled on friday too. some chose to play and some didn't.

sad thing about this is the people that schedule the proms have no idea what sports schedules are. they just pick a day and then kids have to make hard decisions that they shouldn't hve to make. or in the good cases the coaches will get together and move the game so they can experience both. good job here by the coaches of the teams involved. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

These teams are committed to the Pilot Tournament held at Catholic High School on December 28, 29, and 30th:

    Anderson County

    Austin-East (boys only)

    Catholic

    Karns

    Powell

    Scott County (boys)

    Seymour

    Southwest Whitfield (GA)

    Sullivan Central (girls)

    Unicoi County (girls)

so there are no more openings in the boys side???

  7. Fulton should be the best team followed by AE. I think Carter/Union County will fight for third. Don't know much about GP, but Gibbs and PF should be toward the bottom. Thats how I see it.

if steele and lopez are really leaving fulton and AE then carter and union could possibly be the best two teams in the district. i also have heard that wilson could be leaving carter also. then that could open up the door for the new comer to the district and union county. they will be tough with 4 starters back from this years team that advanced to the sub-state round against carter and only lost by 6 points. the loss of muncey will be big but the other 4 can play. eapecially the two guards - vittetoe and smith. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  8. Let me respond to the shorts thing. I am the coach at Red Bank and about two months ago, my father passed away suddenly. I came back after burying him on January 31, 2009 and dressed up for a game against McCallie in a tie and one of his shirts. then it hit me that in today's society of information and instant gratification, it is becoming increaslingly difficult to teach and do the right thing due to criticism and overly active fans. So, that Thursday versus Ooltewah, I made a decision NOT to wear a black band, or get a tatoo (as some kids do now a days to honor a deceased family member), however, i wore shorts. My father wore a suit for all of his 42 years of service to the airline business and always wanted to wear shorts. So, in honor of my father, despite criticism from fans such as you, I chose to do the right thing and teach my kids that doing the right thing is difficult at times. I have received more support for this jester than criticism, however, my players responded with a second year in a row run at the AAA state tournament. We have been fortunate to be here this year and as a program wish fans as yourself research your information a bit more before criticising others about things you have little insight on. SHould you want to discuss this with me call me at the school. Extension 2140 would love to get your input on the state of high school sports and sights such as these.

    Respectfully

    John Cherne III, EdS

    Red Bank HS

    Head Coach

    Coach,

That is awesome. I too was wondering about the shorts but as you said I should research a bit before running my jaw about it. I apoligize to you for things that I too had said about it. I was wrong and you are right. You were doing the right thing. Congrats on getting to the state. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  9. Well i went an played for cosby, we have been pretty darn good. been to the state tourney 7 times with 2 state runner-ups. thats nothin to snarl your nose at. and thats region 1 by the way

and unaka high school in carter county won the state championship in 2004. that is from district 1, region 1. up there with hampton.

  10. THE REAL DEAL JALEN STEELE. WELL HES THE REAL DEAL AS FAR AS SHOOTING GOES. HE KINDA LOOKED LIKE ABOUT WHAT I EXPECTED. GREAT SHOOTER AND SMART. HE WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO DO WHAT WAYNE CHISM AND WILLIE KEMP COULDNT DO AT BOLIVAR. WIN 3 IN A ROW NEXT YEAR.

IM SURE JACKSON IS ALOT MORE ATHLETIC. IM LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING HIM IN THE 3A GAME.

    3A game???? you lost me???? /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  11. I thank you sir... I get it through the TSSAA for some reason...

what is this. a west tn team getting beat by an east tn team. its 45 32 ind of third. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  12. That's worst case senerio "Memphis to Mountain City" several substate games every year are two hours plus every year anyway... I'll tell you what... don't buy two packs of cigarettes a day, or play to play the lottery everyday and you can make the trip as well... I tell you what you can do... the week of the game you can give me $4 day and I'll set it back for you and by the end of the week you can go... I mean come on... average travel would probably be 4-5 hrs and you get a better possible state tourney... with all the best teams... It would only be one game...

its 4 hours for us east tennesseeans to nashville. and by your talk on here you want the entire state tournament field to be comprised of all memphis or west teams because us east teams are inferior to you. i'm not talking about me. i'm talking about for the schools. that is a long haul for anyone on a bus that is getting a whole 10 miles per gallon. and food for the players and coaches for the trip. that would be at least 3 meals if you turned around and drove all the way home after the game. and 4 if you ended up staying the night because of the distance and the time. just have your team practice a little more and maybe they can beat one of those teams to make it. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  13. I may be wrong...I am quite often...but I thought that going into the State Final the teams had split the previous 4 games and then SG went on to win giving them a 3-2 edge in the series that season...those were some great games to watch...

you were exactly right on the unicoi - hampton boys in 92. hampton did beat unicoi 5 times that year and both teams had their seasons ended by the same team - Alcoa. but, hampton would have beat alcoa if vines wouldn't have gotten hurt. probably should have anyways.

but on the one quoted above south greene - unicoi girls actually played 6 times in 91 and split 3-3. both teams were very good and unicoi had their best player ever(boys or girls) in amy engle. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  14. My team has never made it to state... That, I feel, is my anguish against these east tenn teams... Several years "my team" gets put out by good middle tenn teams and play some west tenn teams that make it to the boro... and more often than not they play some east tenn team and beat them... I just don't think it's fair to get to play in one area all year... After regions... sub-state should be drawn out of a hat... reg champ plays at home, reg runner up goes whereever.... Memphis to Mountain City... a true play in game to see who gets to state... not just I'll play in my area and make it to state and then my area gets beat every time...

I guess it's the same as if your a senior give it your all for the last 7 years to make it to that level, but get beat in a close game by a good team... and then you have some sophmore who gets to go to state, and possibly win it... never play any important minutes, but still get the chance but didn't do anything to earn the right to be there...

This is the truth... is it not...

yeah. this makes alot of since in todays economy. lets send teams all the way across the state to play one game. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  15. Yeah... maybe one year they will make it in something.... Girls were 3 pts away from state this year... Several teams with enough talent over the last few years, but unfortunately they have stumbled along the way... and don't get to play in a region like Hampton does...

well, what region do they play in????? come on up to the sticks anytime. they in a, aa, or aaa????

and, fulton is in region 2 and the defending state champions in aa. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  16. I think in the late 80s or early 90s South Greene's girls beat Unicoi County's girls five times in that very scenario...those were the only losses for UC that season. I can't remember the exact year.

they actually played 6 times in 1990-1991. they played in the ladies classic in greeneville with south greene winning. they split the 2 regular season games. they played in the district and regional tournament finals and unicoi won both. then in the state championship game and south greene won. they went 3-3 against each other. that was the only 3 loses for south greene and unicoi had 5 total i think. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

  17. And you think Union Co of all teams get the calls?

no. i'm saying they don't call for anyone (as in none of us). i thought they were pretty neutral. they were pretty bad but not for or against either team, just bad. IMO. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />
