  1. I really don't know why you are a Harrison (HATER), because I remember you blasting him a few years ago. Either you are a coach that couldn't beat his teams, or you have a Lil Johnny on a team that couldn't beat him. But you would be in a small minority if you think he isn't Varsity coaching material. Better mark it down "he will be a head coach "SOONER than later". As for Vaughn, X's and O's he knows basketball. Has a huge problem on how to deal with kids. Just ask former players. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, on the transfer. Probably the biggest ball-hog I have ever seen play, never tries to get his teammates involved in the game. Doesn't play a lick of defense, has a good PPG average, but shoots probably 20 more times a game than any other player. Most of the blame I put on Vaughn for this.

I'm not a "Harrison hater" I just think he has no real coaching abilities. If he has talent he looks good; if he doesn't he stinks. You must be one of his little guys who was a big guy on campus at MIDDLE SCHOOL. I never had a team play him; I was an old high school coach. My collegues were Dale Burns, McCrary, Dickie Warren, real talented guys. There was talent my friend. Not some snotty nosed kid who holds some free shot record. I have no little Johnny who played against him either. I still have friends and colleagues in the system who say he won't ever be a high school coach. Guys at the high school level are a different breed and they are already there jockying for a position. Nathan isn't a ball hog. He can just outshoot, out score and out play the local talent, if that's what it is. It's a shame we lost him from East. He's a good kid; class act unlike some of your other "team" players whose daddies are out there sucking up. In my book, Vaughn is in the league with Burns, McCrary, Warren, and company. Too bad Vaughn didn't let you play; he can recognize talent.

I think I am a little too old to have played for Vaughn!!!!! I know more about this program than you think. You must be Nathan's dad, because you don't know anything about him or this team. Vaughn's program has hit rock bottom since Coach Wallace left. Vaughn could use some of the players he ran off this year. Probably won't make it to 10 wins this year. Oh by the way, I read on another thread that you coached high school and that you work at the Big E. I've watched basketball in this area for years and don't know of any that would be working at the Eastman. Maybe that meth up there in Hickory Tree has scrambled your brain.

  2. No I think it another Harrison, the one at EAST. The one you are talking about at Holston Middle, should be coaching the varsity at Basketball. Vaughn is a Joke!!!!!!!Plus the assistants are a bunch of clowns. I don't think they even played basketball. This is what's wrong with Central B-Ball.

I've known Tony Vaughn for years and he is no joke; he just don't have anything except the transfer to work with. The assistants are clueless I have to agree with you there. That Harrison at Holston Middle couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. I know I know they win "state championships." Right. Middle school is NOT high school. Over on our side of the county he is not respected very much. Classless in fact. :Likes to run the score up on people and run his mouth. Throws stuff too. Not in Vaughn nor Dickie Warren's league either. Not high school coaching material in my book.

  3. Well, it seems that things have stalled out for the time being. The folks at East are still hanging, wondering what is going on with Coach Nelson. Is he going or is he staying, they would really like to know. Heard that he was going soon, just waiting to hear from SH about the opening. Still hearing that Scott Nelson will go this summer. Do know this,Coach Phillips does not want to be a Head Coach at this time,at least that is what is being told. Coach Harrison would probably take the Head job if it was offered at East, if he doesn't take the P.E. job at South. This thing should be settled as quickly as possible, if nothing else, for the sake of the players at East who just want to know who will be coaching them next year.

Scott is a fine young man. Know his mama well. Coach Phillips may not want the headaches right now. Another fine man. Who is Harrison you mention? You're not speaking of that yahoooo at Holston Middle are you?

  4. Stok, let it be known that I have no coaching experience, but there's two things I know. I could do a better job coaching the Los Angeles Clippers and I could do a better job coaching the 2008-2009 Cougars. I'm not saying I have all the answers and Central could start beating everyone but I certainly could do a better job managing the players who never seem to be on the same page. Believe me, there's some anamosity between those players right now, there's gotta be. Anybody could smoothe that over better than Vaughn.

I would think coaching a high school team requires more experience than playing basketball at Holston Optimist.

  5. cross played for mason in middle school for 3 years and ended up the all time middle school scorer there. so i would guess he and mason spend alot of time together in the gym!!

Are you kidding me? Middle schools keeping up with points scored for a career. I would suppose Mary Hughes was a middle school when East was built. That is a long time ago probably 38 to 40 years ago. You sound like a dad to me. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  6. 1. Going to the DB game is cool with me, because I can read your analysis about a meaninful team (not the Raiders) and you can contribute to my Odem, Slyvester POTY watch, which sorely needs some help getting going.

2.Putting Fox's pizza in the concession stand is borderline genius. Thank God!

    3. I'll be at the game tomorrow, no doubt.

    4. For the fans of old rebelrebelman, Cental fans, more than anybody, tend to get out of line and they're like a swarm that all get on and say ridiculous things. So as long as they're around, I'll be on the Cougars case all season.

Maybe you and tricitiessportsfan can hook up and hold hands during the game! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

  7. On the South side however??¦what is the deal with Ashworth. He didn??™t play much in the game and when he did it looked as if Pendleton was playing him out on the wing. These coaches these days /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> ??¦I don??™t know why some of you give them so much props and credit, and always come to defend them. Wasn??™t Ashworth the leading scorer in the paint for the Rebels last year as a junior?

He also took 90% of the shots as well!

  8. I heard their going to demolish Sullivan Central and build a truck stop. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

You keep mentioning this. Is a truck stop where you pick up your women, or maybe your men. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  9. Kind of makes you wonder why Dobyns Bennett, Science Hill, and Tennessee High don't schedule what looks like a quality 2A opponent that is close in local. I know I'd like to see our Indians play Unicoi Co., the girls would even benefit from such a matchup as the Unicoi Co. girls are usually better than average.

I guess since most Sullivan Central fans won't give the Blue Devils their due, I'm ignorant for considering such match ups.

Also, as of today (11/27), the Big 9 is 18-6 against non-conference opponents, with 3 of the 6 losses coming to Unicoi Co. (2A), 1 to Hampton (1A), 1 to Meigs Co. (2A), and 1 to Clinton (3A).

You must be new to this area. This is the 4th year since Central moved up to AAA, before that they played 4 years in AA, the same conference as Unicoi. Central went 8-3 against UC, so I don't think they have any problem scheduling them. Like I said before you must be new to this area to make this statement. Think about your statement. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

  10. Maybe Unicoi should play some of the upper division Schools in the Big 9? Sounds like Unicoi would be better than alot of the compitition in conference for the BIG 3 (DB/SH/TN). Years and years ago, Unicoi was a Charter Member of North East Tennessee High School Athletics, along with Kingsport, Bristol, Johnson City and Elizabethton.

Unicoi has a good Basketball Program.

    Roll Tribe Roll

I don't think you can say UC is a powerhouse this year. Central beat them pretty handily in a scrimmage. From what I seen the teams that was mentioned Crockett, East, Volunteer, Boone and South would have a hard time competing in AA. This is the weakeast the Big 9, 10, 7 has been in years.

  11. I watch a lot of games, and since Central is usually pretty competitive, they come up on my must-watch games more often. It's not hard, guy. Watch a few games, I saw 5 or 6 last year and Box saw playing time in every game. He didn't score in any game I watched, and had a few turnovers. I can judge a player's dribbling abilities, and his aren't where a point guard's needs to be. I watch the lay up lines in warm ups, without fail, he missed more lay ups than anyone on the team. I'm not bashing Box, but these are the facts. He's a football player, not a basketball player. I don't know why Vaughn has him on the team, maybe he likes his energy and effort, or maybe he thinks he can make him a good player. But just because he's on the team doesn't mean I'm supposed to think "the kid can play and be a factor." You want a factor? Try the starting five, plus Hyden, plus Winchell. Vaughn is a good coach with an impressive resume, he has a good starting five, and Central will probably be 3rd in the conference. I'm not bashing Central or Vaughn, cause both are good. But seriously, there's been 2 other people on here who have commented on Box's ball handling, one of them apparently is a Central fan (FreddyCoougar.) If we have Central people saying, "Hey, this kid can't dribble" then by god there might be a pattern going on. I'm pretty sure you just want to antagonize me, but I'll play along. Jared Harrison, who I consider the best coach around here and it's a shame he's not coaching high school, cut Box from the middle school team. I'm going to take Harrison's cut, combined with what I've seen from watching Central play, and make a solid assessment. Again, I don't have a vendetta against the kid. If he could play, then I'd give him the credit he was due. I wouldn't just randomly pick him out and bash him. I saw him play point guard poorly throughout last season, and that's that. Rebelrebelman 1 - vikefan33/austin box- 0 + 5 turnovers.

You seem to know a lot about Holston, and now you are a REBEL. That sounds really familiar to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Gotcha.

  12. There is no one thing that is wrong at Central, but many. The BB coach does threaten the players, "that they will lose their spot if they play other sports". This starts in their freshman year. As stated in earlier posts, there are a lot of politics at Central. I think the coaches at Bltv. and Holston do a good job, and I think they should have been considered when the position at Central came open. As we all know, it is the ole buddy system. Not only was he hired as the head coach, the Administration appointed him AD. I could go on and on about the Administration, but not here. In an earlier post, workouts should be made mandatory with coaches pushing them. I'm sure Carter, Stubbs, Clark doesn't just leave it up to the players to do their workouts. It is a shame to go from Middle School champions at Holston and a good competitive team at Bltv. in the 8th grade to possibly not winning a game their senior year.

  13. NEWSFLASH:

Dale Burns steps down as Arby's tournament director. Guess who's going to be the new tournament director. Go ahead and book 3 first class plane tickets to the Bahamas for the 3 jokers that ref'd tonights game against Central.

  14. That argument is TIRED. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Here??¦chew on this for awhile.

THS over South - Shouldn??™t be a big deal but who knows.

The Hill over Central - In a word...Massacre!

DB over Volunteer - Hope nobody gets hurt.

East over Boone - Takin candy from a baby.

Whew! Just got back from the back field of my farm, killed two big CROWS. I've got them in a deep fryer, ready you for CAP. Do you like Barbecue sauce with that? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  15. THS can be a "wanna be" if they chose to be because they know that they are as good as those teams. i.e. last year /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> . I would take being a wanna be anyday over being central who is a "never will be" . When Central can win districts then we might throw you in the same catagory as THS, SHHS, and DB. but probably not. have a great day

I would venture to say that central has as many or more Districts as tennessee high since '69 when Central started. Coach Warren got over 900 wins in the Big 9, Big 10, Upper Lakes or whatever, except the 2 years he dropped to 2A in 98 and 99. DB's biggest rival in the 70's and 80's was Central. I would think guys like skunk and stokomo would probably agree with this.

  16. Well said Cougarfan... and how are those cougars shaping up this season? I usually know and talk to a few cougars each year, but I have been so busy with everything but basketball this year that I haven't had the time or energy to keep up in the know...ya know? Anyways.... Good Luck to your Cougars and see you at the games. GOD BLESS!!!!

Hey Stokomo, Cougarfan22 isn't a Cougar Fan. I think it's someone from Tennessee High that fell in love with #22 last year at the Cougar Dome. As far as Central, we will have to wait and see. Coach Vaughn does a good job, and they will run and gun all night long. Probably will have our hands full with Cocke County this Friday. Good luck to the Falcons.
