  1. Mitchell...fast and experienced, decent coach with state championship experience( back to back state finals appearances, so you haters can't argue that) D-1 point guard, solid productive center, a productive 4 who sometimes settles for too many 3's, very talented 2 -guard in Wade, and the x-factor Ken Torry. He has a knee injury of some sort, but he can excite the crowd on the break, decent shot and he is fearless. He is the type of player that can win state tourney MVP or loose his cool and cause the game. However their best player, Jarvis Jones, is out and he would have provided more leadership, experience and the deadly outside shot needed to take the gold ball.

How long has Jones been out? What happened? I don't know much about Mitchell but I know that loosing your "best" guy is tough!

  2. Didn't Creekwood play against Harpeth? How did they do against Harpeth - common opponent for CPA and Creekwood?

Harpeth and Creekwood have played three times. Harpeth won two of the three meetings. Once 68-54, the other 59-46. Creekwood won the 2nd matchup 47-46.

CPA has beat Harpeth twice. Once 70-53 and another time 86-42.

  3. Fair enough on the difference of opinion. Good point.

I admit, I find it fun (twisted though it may be) to take a different point of view and see how it plays out. Debating, picking a fight, stirring up trouble - yes, guilty. I'll argue both sides of an issue if given the chance. But, in all seriousness, I didn't intend to degrade anyone, especially any specific players. If that is your opinion of my posts, I truly apologize.

Good luck to CPA and Giles County in the sectionals. Tip to CPA students: if you get into the end zone in DL's gym where the DL students normally sit and then do your "what's that you say" cheer, you'll blow the roof off of the gym. Awesome, spirited cheer. I hate it because when I hear it that usually means my team's on the short end of the stick, but it is truly a great thing to behold. Best wishes.

Thanks for the tip. That was one of the first things I thought about when I heard we were going to play there. Our students will love being in that end section of the gym!!!

  4. This is crazy. I didn't even know what CoachT was until recently. Someone told me to check it out and get a laugh. They were right. It appears that this is nothing but a "therapy session" as everyone vents, brags, ridicules, etc.etc.etc. Let the kids play ball. Let them have fun. They are young and vulnerable and alot of them evidently get on here and read this _______, because it was a player that told me to check it out. Check out what? All the comments made by moms and dads, coaches, has-beens, wanna-bes? I'm out of here. Good riddance.

Does everyone else see that he joined in December of 2003?!?!

  5. I kinda think it's time for all this "healthy" banter to stop. I'm a HUGE CPA fan...but I'm done. I am just enjoying our success and really enjoying watching the boys prepare for and continually get closer to their goal, which is to make it 3-15-08 (just like the back of the shirts). They are so excited! And with good reason! I can only pray that they don't read here, some of this stuff could be really harmful. I think everyone has gone a little too far and made fools of themselves...including me a time or two. Anyways, good luck to Giles Co. on Monday, as they are the only other 5AA team left. Congrats to the other 9AA programs for a great year. I truely think this district has great things in store for the future!

  6. Looking for gyms to play at on monday for sub state shouldnt be to hard. First start at Hunters Lane, for one they have the biggest gym in Metro and nice locker rooms, plus hunters lane loves to host tournmennt games and they do a good job with security, or try Ensworth they have maybe one of the best faculities in Nashville, or you could try using one of your district foes. Pearl Cohn has the biggest gym in the district, good condition locker rooms, and the parking problem wont be an issue becuase it is a parking lots sorunding the whole school. Plus Coach Wharton and Coach Maddux are good friends. Just throwing stuff out there to look at.

Not official, but I have a feeling it will be at MLK.

  7. Was there something specific that causes you to say that CPA was arrogant earlier? I understand the comment about the cheerleaders, but what have the players done differentl? I have seen them play a few times and haven't noticed anything different.

I don't understand why ya'll are so concerned about what the cheerleaders are wearing?!?! It was a BLACKOUT night! It's one of CPA's ways of showing spirit. Schools all over the country do 'white out' games and CPA used to as well, they just decided to change it up some. Everyone else seems to think the black shirts are great and they think it's great that the cheerleaders participate in it! Get over it already, its fun!

  8. "i know what he meant and they werent projected last everyone in the district knew they had Anderson and Miller coming up and Mason transfering in... they werent projected first but they definitely werent projected last "

Makes one think about recruiting. I have a son who is just starting school- he's 5' right now but I think he has the potential to be about 5'7". I'm hoping CPA can pick him up but it's always up to the highest bidder.

    CPA doesn't recruit!!!

  9. I will say that I don't think we have experienced any problems at any of the CPA games that I've been at. Which if I recall correctly is ALL of them!

I have however seen issues at several other schools. Maybe people just aren't getting the training they really need. But I can't imagine that it would be that hard to find a faculty member or parent to run the shot clock.

  10. Shot clock not only about tradition, but about cost, maintenance, standardized placement and expertise in keeping the shot clock. Talking more expense and more personnel. Many schools see budgets too tight as it is, don't want to mess with shot clocks.

I agree about the cost issue but there should be some kind of understanding when it comes to this tactic. Of the 20+ CPA games I've seen this season...none of them consisted of this. Tuesdays atmosphere wasn't boring but when you've come to see a CHAMPIONSHIP basketball game or any game for that matter and one of the teams holds the ball for 4 minutes...its dissapointing! Then when it happens for a second time, all you can do is feel like your being cheated. IMO that's why so many CPA fans have had so much to say about it.

  11. It came when simpson had the putback but z slapped the backboard causing the ball to fall off the front of the rim. that ball was def goin in

I was sitting right off to the side from that goal. I saw the ball and Z. It wasn't going in. It was already leaning to the outside of the rim when Z hit the bottom of the backboard. I actually thought he hurt his fingers the way he hit it. There was no slapping of the backboard, he went up to tip it out and hit underneath instead. Maybe from your view it looked that way, but I was right there, probably a better view than the refs...you know, the ones who didn't call it.

I don't know why everyone is so shocked that CPA beat DL...they beat them twice this season already! What makes you think that would change now?!?! Especially when DL didn't play, they just stood around!

  12. What a silly post. Let's please not get into whose students did what. I understand that you are upset that your team lost the game but let's not start this sillyness!

I for one am proud of CPA's fans and students. The crowd was absolutely one of the best I've ever seen at a CPA game, 2nd only to the previous DL game. This is a huge rivalry and I think both schools students acted the only way they know how. Think about it this way, had this been a public school like the one I went to, the chant at the end would have been a lot worse than "You can't beat us"!

  13. I think at this point, every game is huge. I know that's how I feel about CPA games. Last night Miller only had 7 and CPA will need him to score more in these tourney games in order to continue their winning streak. Anderson with 17 and Reeves with 12 contributed to last nights win and helped offset the low scoring from Miller. Pearl shot well at the last meeting and held Mason at 16 and Miller at 10. The Firebirds play a good game but I think if CPA can stay focused and energized then they will take it.

  14. 1st round games are at home sites on Thursday the 14th. Semis and final at MLK

It SHOULD turn out this way

#8 Ezell at CPA, #7 East Lit @ Lipscomb, #6 MLK @ FRA, #5 Hume Fogg @ Pearl Cohn

CPA will also hold boys SR night activities on Thursday since they were cancelled Tuesday due to the weather. They will take place immediately after the final buzzer.

  15. Are all the district tourney games played at MLK or are 1st round at higher seeds?

    Anybody know the schedule?

From what I have gathered CPA will host the first round on the 14th. I have not heard that officially but so far, that is the talk.

  16. Williamson got 33 pts tonight and Z Mason had 38 pts and 2 treys.

I felt like the refs were lopsided once again tonight. Was is just me? Two of those refs have consistently been tough when calling CPA's games this year. It's getting a little rediculous.

  17. i dont think you'll see more than 3 players from a team even if CPA is #1 in the district.. plus with all the talent they have Peterson doesn't really stand out much

Not on these boards he doesn't. There have been several games this season where Peterson and Reeves have scored more than Anderson....but they are very rarely praised on here the way other players are. Even worse players on other teams get more talk than these guys. I'll tell you right now...this time next year, you'll notice them being gone! They lead that starting five...maybe not in points, but they are the natural leaders of this team for sure. We will miss them tremendously!

  18. Is there a coach that has his name appear on these boards more than Maddux? It is like someone is handing out $10 bills everytime his name is mentioned. He's a very good coach, but there are so many others - Lipscomb, FRA, Hume Fogg, MLK on and on in this district and others. It is amazing that one school has become more recognized for their coach than the quality of their kids and school.

I am guessing that Coach Maddux ($10 please) will agree that the players are the stars. He'd be the first to give them the credit. I am sure he is flattered, but when the worm turns at CPA (and like all mid-small privates it will) I am wondering what all the Drew birds will have to write about.

Congrats to CPA on their success. They will be fun to follow in the next month.

I don't mention Maddux to take away from our players AT ALL. He is a great coach when it comes to basketball but the reason I respect and like him so much is because of what he has done for the players off the court. He and the rest of the coaches currently at CPA have brought out a new spirit and a sense of pride in these boys. It's amazing to see how much they've grown in the last two years and there is a reason they have...people like Coach Maddux and Coach Moore are investing in them and loving them.

  19. CPA lacks depth which could hurt them later on and tournament time begins, they have been fortunate to have not been bitten by the injury bug too badly this season.

And with the powerhouse from last year, Liberty Tech, gone... there are many, many AA teams that feel like the golden ball can and will be theirs.

I think at the beginning of the season you would have been more right about the depth comment...but now, their bench is showing their much better than before. As far as the injury bug...they have had their fair share of injuries. Anderson's legs, Reeves' shoulder, and other minor things have left them without a few here and there. Obviously nothing enormous but still...2 starters have sat due to injury and illness. Everyone needs to quit making excuses for the reasons they won't go and start encouraging the program some!

If they stay focused, which I think they will...Maddux will make sure of it, then prepare to wear your purple and gold on March 15th!

  20. So what is everyone's official guess for the CPA-FRA game tonight? Anyone going?

I'll be there! I think it will be a hard fought game by both teams. If Kennedy's on fire and Miller too, then your probably gonna see an overtime or two. But I think at the end of it all, CPA will prevail, but I am slightly bias.

  21. FRA has been playing some good ball and if CPA overlooks them, CPA could end up with their first District loss.

Believe me, CPA isn't overlooking FRA. They aren't overlooking anyone. That's rediculous to even think CPA would go into this game thinking they don't have to worry. Maddox and the other coaches know very well what FRA is capable of and they are preparing for a showdown.
