  1. Thats a good one 1hoopLAfan. What coach doesn't whine in this conference? The East coach acts pyscho on the sideline yelling and grabbing players, the Jeff coach goes crazy and red faced, the Greenville coach cries up and down the sideline and baseline and was also threw out of a game, the West coach throws his hands up and cries when things dont go his way and throws his blazer on the floor and nobody cries more than the girls coach at Cherokee. Did not see Cockes coach enough to see what he cries about but did see him lead a cheer of defense during the middle of a game.

Back to the boys, still no word on the Jeff boys yet. Still think Coach Scot deserves another shot interm or not.

  2. Sinard does not need to coach the boys again, but I would like to see him take over the Lady Patriots for a few years before he retires and let Bo Lewis be his assistant so he can learn a little more. If Bo remains the head coach then please Bo get some help coaching. Good Luck Coach Sinard.

The rumor mill has started! Always fun to hear the speculations. And it has begun around the league. I have heard rumors about the Jefferson County coaches. It is going around that Sinard wants back in. Will they give it to him(again) and Scot be his assistant again? Would Scot accept that role? The parents were on him pretty hard. Who knows, the next few weeks will tell. The girls program had a decent year. Seems to be some excitement with the girls. New uniforms, new lockerooms. Coach Lewis is young just like Coach Scot. Give them a chance. The boys program has always been in the dumps and the girls program has been the last few years. Coach Lewis inherited a program on the decline from what I remember. Potts glory days were over. And what would be the reasoning of bringing Sinard back anyways? Coach Scot did just as much as the boys have done the last several seasons, so why be so hard on him?

  3. Coach Lewis received 3 t's in about 15 seconds from 2 different officials. IMO, the refs went a little crazy a whole lot more than what lewis did. A ref should walk away after giving one, not stand there and bait the coach for a second. His partner then runs in frm nowhere and gives lewis the 3rd. The girls actually took it to heart I believe and played extremely hard(diving on the floor after loose balls and everything). Coach can get fired up, but this was one time the referees went overboard.

  4. Well raiderray, this is one parent who has to disagree with you on this one. Coach plays Nelson, Miller, Lyke, Huff, Whiteside, Mcwilliams, Kyle and Batey. When i do the math that is 8. Trentham comes in briefly to make the 9th. This team is not a great team to begin with and they have things to work on, but the majority (8 of those 9) play pretty dang hard. They avg more than 2 minutes per time on the floor. I do feel like Nelson could give more of an effort a lot of the time and i have saw him get on her at times about it. Also there has been improvement along the way this year. You mentioned last years players, if Cherokee had this person they would have won. Well big deal, If Jeff Co. had players from the past they would have won bigger. These girls have beaten the Chiefs twice now and East twice in the district without players from last year. False hope? What in the world does that mean? Anyways, keep working hard Lady Patriots and best of luck this week.

I went Friday. This was the first time I had seen Cherokee this year. Except for the two post players (Ryans and another lady), they are really SMALL! Hopefully, for them, it is because they are young, so maybe they will continue to grow. If they do, and given a couple of years with Coach Price, this could be a tough bunch next year, and certainly two seasons from now.

Jeff put a lot of pressure on the Cherokee guards early, and then the Lady Chiefs also used Ryans up high for picks, which took her away from the basket quite a bit. Jeff got out early on 4 three pointers, but Cherokee would battle back. It didn't become a blow out until the 4th quarter.

My opinion, Jeff is playing too many people prior to garbage time. There are players who just don't have a chance to get into a rhythm and then they are off the court. I saw two examples where a player makes a great play on offense, and then they are out of the game. I know they played 9 players before they had played 9 minutes of the game. Do the math on that. 9 minutes, times 5 players is 45 minutes of playing time. That is an average of 5 minutes per player, and with Nelson and Miller playing a lot becasue of the point guard duties, there are several of the other 7 getting 2 minutes or less. Some might say, great, he is using his depth, but I think he is just creating doubt and timid play in the players. They feel like they cannot afford to make a mistake.

My opinion is likely not shared by many of the parents, but you can't coach based on which parents are going to call you if thier girl doesn't play. I think you pick 8, with a 9th ready if foul trouble happens, and then get those 8 or nine ready. If someone else starts making a move in practice, that is great, you can use it to motivate everyone else.

My other observation is this. Jeff County hasn't beat a team yet with a winning record. Until they do, I think they are building false expectations within themselves. They still don't work hard enough on the defensive end to beat good teams. If Ashlee Price still played for Cherokee, Cherokee would have won Friday night, because there was opportunity for Cherokee, they just didn't hit shots. Jeff might win tonight at Sevier County, but that might be the last win they get until the District Tourny, and then they likely will beat East, and then lose out. The combination of too many players playing, and not doing the little things, will end up costing them. I hate to say that, because there are a lot of those young ladies I truly care for, and enjoy watching.

    Off my soapbox.

  5. Wanted to say congrats to JC on their win friday night against Cherokee 53 - 33. The lady pats have won 4 in a row. they travel to sevier county tonight for their first of three games this week. couple of questions: anyone know the make up date with south doyle? and did anyone go to the game friday night at jc? saw the box score where ryans was held to just 6 points

  6. I've seen JC several times. JC should have won the game. The Lady Patriots are a very deep and talented team. (12 deep) and most teams only play 6 or 7. I thought the match up was to our favor. The biggest knock I see is they don't seem to use Kyle and Huff enough and don't play together. (to much random shooting.

12 deep? that is stretching it to the extreme. I haven't seen one team that is 12 deep. if jc was that deep they would be undefeated and be in state tournament talks, that is not the case. and as far as playing certain players more, from what i have been told a couple of them could be working a little harder in practice. so lets not assume we know it all.

Unfortunately i didn't get to go to the game tuesday, but read that jc was out rebounded by 20 or more. so how can you say they should have won with that kind of stat. and cc shot 50 free throws to jc's 20. each game i have watched huff has played nearly the whole game btw.

jc has NO post play. so again how can they be expected to be a great/real good team? just some thoughts. would like to see some more thoughts on this team and cherokee

  7. jefferson beat south doyle last night 45-22.. they looked very short handed last night with 4 or 5 players on the bench in street clothes and lost #22 during the game after taking an elbow to the head. nelson & miller were both out last night. kyle was actually having to play point last night after 22 went out of the game.

  8. Jeff County's point guard played really well, hit some outside shots and got several steals in the half court that turned into easy lay-ups. They played a lot of girls and everyone contributed.

jeff county also had a post, Madison McWilliams who played well last night. she had 15 or 16 points. the point guard nelson did have a good game most of the time. unfortunately, the team may have lost a player for a while, lacy miller went down early and i saw her leave on crutches. hope she gets back soon. any word on why lyke didn't play last night?

the girls played pretty hard last night overall. nice to watch a team that puts forth a hard effort, win or lose.

  9. endguard you must have a thing against jeff co. always putting them down..cheer up charlie.... and what was the deal senior night over there, all of that sappiness, personally poor taste of class with the way that whole presentation thing went..just telling you what was going through the stands..jeff co has had a rough year no doubt. actually they have had a rough three years now haven't they? there has been about three girls on that team that have consistently shown that they don't want to be there? so why bring the whole team down..the coaching staff will be fine there. don't believe anyone expected miracles this season...

    District 2 AAA begins tonight

    Jeff Co vs Cherokee

    West vs East

    tonights losers

Jeff Co. loses to Cherokee for the 3rd time this year- close game, head coaching experience is the difference

East - these teams are not the same as in the beginning of season (injuries), as in the first game coaching will make a difference

it is softball time for these two schools

  10. saw where east played sevier county a close one last night...anyone see the game?

also another nondistrict game last night between jefferson county and south doyle. not sure of the final but the lady patriots won by about 20. i was able to catch that game...saw where coach lewis benched his starters for a while. seemed to work, the girls off of the bench came in and performed better than the starters. the younger girls are starting to play better, whereas some of the upper classmen seem to be slipping (including a junior w/o mentioning any names), with the exception of potts, she seems to always play hard. any thoughts out there?

  11. I think that maybe taking quality shots and not just throwing something up at the basket is another key essential to Jeff Co. getting wins. There have been so many times that Jeff Co. has gone through a play and there isn't a quality shot so they get a lil trigger happy and throw up a shot and it tends not to go in. sometimes i see some selfish play out of some of the girls and see the same ones taking plays off on defense. This team does not have the talent to take any plays off. If you want a play off then ask Coach Lewis for a sub. When you only score 8 points in a half, then it's pretty obvious that you are gonna need to play defense as much as possible.

I understand that they blew a 14 point half time lead tonight to Fulton. So inconsistant play continues to plague this bunch. I'm starting to think that there could be another losing season in Dumplin Valley. the 2nd in the last 3 years and the 2nd in the last 18 years. Hopefully these girls can get it together. Play hard and smart.

to respond to Eyes From Above, this group of seniors are working on 3 losing seasons in a row. unfortunately the lady pats had their second losing season in a row last year. it may not get much better this season due to the schedule in front of them. they play sevier co tonight who has only lost one game. briarcrest in the first round of that christmas tournament

wasn't able to make the game tonight but i did talk to someone that went and the girls did have a 14 point lead at the half. to my understanding the lack of rebounding in the second half was a big problem. these girls don't seem to play well together most of the time. there are 3 or 4 "me" players on this group.

the only consistent scoring production they are getting is from nelson. none of the seniors have stepped it up yet.

endguard mentioned 5 in, 5 out--- what do you all think of that kind of rotation?

  12. I agree. if you watched that game last night you would have seen how winded some of those girls looked only 2 minutes deep in the game. I don't necessarily like the idea of jeff co and their coaches playing 10 players either but look what they have. the upperclassmen can't get up and down the floor without being wore out and they have inexperienced freshman on the bench. so they almost have to substitute a lot. i am afraid this year is going to be rough for them a lot of the time. what do you all think? probably won't get to make the game to night but Go Lady Patriots!

  13. What does being an assistant have to do with it? Sometimes moving up one seat is difficult. The first chair is alot hotter than seat two. We all can coach from the sidelines. I mean this is a step up. Some people adjust quicker than others. Is recruiting an option? If so help us out and send us one. We need all the help we can get.

apparently we can all coach from the sidelines huh? an assistant coach has a lot to do with it after you saying they are a middle school coach (your words endguard). anyone would know that it is a hotter seat, have you been there before? maybe you can give us a little more insight to why there is a new coach to begin with? if i heard correctly the change was made a WEEK before the season.
