  1. This game will be about turnovers. I was at the Northside game because I saw Hurd run up 400+ yards and 5 touchdowns on my Henry County Patriots. Northside did a phenomenal job in the first half sustaing long drives and scoring touchdowns. Beech would get the ball and score in 3-4 plays. Beech fumbled once and Northside was able to get a field goal with it and went to halftime with a 24-14 lead. Then the 2nd half started with Beech going down and scoring. Nsides next possession had a bad referee call that forced them to punt and the rest was history as Beech reeled off three touchdowns in a row. Turnovers will be the key because Beech will score nearly everytime unless Columbia can force turnovers. I don't care who wins so I don't have on rose colored glasses I've seen Hurd destroy two good teams and that is what I'm using as a point of reference. If Columbia can score and cause turnovers then they havea chance, but I'm going with Beech in this one. Good luck to both teams! It was a great experience for our community last year! Go Pats!

  2. Finally the season has ended so now this thread can be entertaining again. Congrats to Northeast and the four players receiving All-District awards they deserved it.

I am by no means a Henry County friend by I can respect Wilkins and Etheridge. Individual awards mean very little, but I believe Ehteridge was the best player this year in the district with Alderson close behind. Wilkins coaches like no one I have seen before. I respect his passion and he is someone I would love to coach my son. He deserves this award.

This year could be one of the tightest races down the stretch. It is wide open for Northeast, Henry County, or Rossview to take the 10AAA title and defend it in the region.

    One Love

Well I can respect that fact that you respect a great coach and player that shows you are a true gentleman of the game! I agree that this is the closest I've seen district in a long time! Good luck to all Friday night except DC of course because they are playing us!

  3. Etheridge won MVP and Wilkins won Coach of the Year. All District = NE 4 Alderson, James, Brown, ?, HC 3 Etheridge, Dumas, Sims, CHS 2 Harper, Baggett, RV 2 Williams, Childs , NW 1 Rudolph, SPR 1 Stanton, KW 1 Smith, DC 1 player.

Wow HC cleaned up! Well good for them and hope they continue on their winning ways. Both Wilkins and Etheridge are deserving and put in a great deal of time trying to be the best. Good luck to all in the tourney except when you play HC!!! lol

  4. I'm surprised it took 4 pages before someone mentioned Etheridge (from Henry County).

Arguements for/against other players in the league:

Alderson -- while he is a good player, a great slasher and an adequate jump shooter, he is not hardly dominant. He is merely a good high school basketball player on a team that has several other good pieces. He is the best scorer on a big, athletic, and tough team. So offensively everything runs through him. This is not a knock on Alderson. He is a good player. I'm sure every other coach in the district would love to have him, but he isn't what you would call an MVP calliber player. (at least in my opinion)

Sims -- From Henry County. To me, this is the guy, even more so than Stanton that everyone will notice even more next year. Sims is just a winner. Ask a Henry County football fan.

Williams -- He was better last year wasn't he?! Someone else brought that up and that is a good point. I'll just leave this one alone.

Stanton/Rudolf -- Both good to even great shooter/scorers in the league but you just cannot give MVP to a guy whose team is in the bottom half of the district. You just can't. (I make the comparison you are making--that kid from Texas last year, Durrant--look at his stats in the NBA right now--they are tremendous--is anyone considering him for an MVP? No. Why not? His team success or lack their of.

Which brings my choice back to Etheridge. I'm guessing every coach in the league tries their best not to let a 6'0 post guy go crazy on them. Ha. It has to be embarrassing. Etheridge has to avg close to 20 if not over that (he's had several +30 games) and he is usually always leading the team in rebounding. He is a fun kid to watch. I dont recall seeing a kid in the past 20 years get as much out of his frame as this kid does.

Great post and I agree with pretty much everything. Etheridge is the best small post player I've ever seen he gets maximum ability out of his size. If he were 6'5 or so big time talent!! Sims is tough as well. Williams has always had big games against HC but just good/avg games against everyone else. Stanton does not look like the player he was last year but that me be due to coaches really keying on him. Who is #32 for NW. He's a young player that looks to make some noise in the future?

  5. Well, I won't go 1st team and 2nd team, but these are the guys that have impressed me thus far this season.

Rossview: Williams, obviously; better guard play than I expected; Childs has had his moments, but the few times I've seen them he hasn't been consistent

Clarksville: Baggett; still not convinced this team is the 2nd best team in the district, but they're winning

Northeast: Alderson; their bigs look scary but they don't have much skill; thought their point was going to be a monster but he likes to dribble too much

Henry County: Sims and Etheridge; really good team when they get that third scorer going with these two

Springfield: Stanton; although this is the only team I haven't seen yet, interested to see what has changed from last year with them

Northwest: #15, Rudolph (?) I believe, I don't remember him from last year, but he's super quick with a nice jumper; #34 could be a really nice player for them next year (sophomore now)

Kenwood: whoever their lead guard is (#20 maybe?); he's a fantastic athlete but all of the changes in the coaching staff the past few years has hurt this team

Dickson County: Snead is the guy most people will say, but I'm partial to McClurkin (I know I misspelled that). He's playing out of position at the point, but he's their only ball handler, distributer, and the only guy on their team who can get his own shot

    Looks pretty accurate to me! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  6. Congratulations to Hillsboro. It was a disappointing way for HC to conclude a great season. To those HC fans who are upset with your own coaches, you are a classic collection of fools, and you make me happy to be out of coaching. Why don't you approach the administration, and see if you can have the entire staff fired! Why they only revived a dead program and won 30 of their last 33 games. How dare they be so incompetent! They have only won 10 playoff games in the last four seasons. They have only been to the semi-finals the last three years in a row. Now find me a team who has done that, other than Maryville. I am sure there is one, but there can't be many. HC may beat Hillsboro five out of ten times if they played, but the team with the most speed, quickness, and talent, won that game. Those of you who ran your mouth about running clocks through the playoffs are ridiculous. Like I said, just run the coaching staff out of town. They would be better off if you did.

I 1000% agree. Hillsboro was a very quick team at all positions. I hated to see it end, but its not the end of the world. There will be a tomorrow.

  7. Did you go to the same game I went to last week? What in the world are you talking about? What did your "suddenly stupid and over-thinking" coaches do differently? Why don't you spell it out, instead of making a general statement? What "over-thinking" did your "playoff-dumb" coaches do in the playoffs last year? How many playoff games have these playoff-dumb coaches won in the last few years? How many playoff games had HC won in the few years before these coaches got here? You are a piece of work! Fans like you are part of the reason I am glad to be out of coaching. You think you know something, but you obviously know NOTHING!

AMEN Red one!!! There were a few changes but if I"m not mistaken because of injuries. People are so ignorant!

  8. It is difficult for anyone to metnion all the Patriot Players on here, there is a great deal of contributors and many do not even see the field on Friday night except during warm ups. #38 gets lots of recogonition as he has started fro 4 years and I have not seen the numbers but probably if not close to the all time leading tackler for the Patriots. #38 is a talented offensive weapon as well that has not been displayed since his sophmore year and at the Hardin county game last year. He is a leader on the field and the locker room, he is the center of the defense, and a monster on the kickoff coverage team.

When you talk about htis senior class, and I am sure that I will leave someone out, #38, # 34, #3,

#51, have all started for 3 years or more. #73, #10, #18 have played huge rolls for the last two seasons. There are many other seniors that have made huge contributions as well and they are all a part of the team that is 11-0 and looking for 12-0.

Robbie got to run the ball in the Liberty game when McFerrin came out with cramps or whatever his injury was. I think he ran for 20 - 30 yards on 3-4 carries. He's a great backup to have in that spot.

  9. Please, just once, will you give us all a name, just one name. You've kept that same line for 3 years now, but we all know you won't name anyone.

Well if you want a name how about errr....... well.......... ahh............ Bob Smith thats a good American name. Not sure if anyone in Henry Co. High goes by that name but at least its a name. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  10. I am excited and ready for basketball season, I do expect improvements in our team this year at Kenwood. The region looks similar to me with Dickson dropping off and Kenwood stepping up.

    IMO

    1. Springfield most rounded ball club

    2. Clarksville may be better than Sprinfield due to previous experiences

    3. NE is on Clarsvilles heels

    4. Rossview has been steady

    5. Kenwood hopefully will play up to their talent on a more consistant basis

    6. Dickson County will keep all games clsoe til the end winning almost half their region games

    7. Northwest, underachievers as usual but will beat Henry COunty

    8. Lots of talent in the halls but not willing to play for coach

1, 2, 3 are all tight and whoever gets hot at the right time will win out

4,5 are tight as well, I expect a real battle for the 4 spot.

Is #8 suppose to be Henry County and if so who is walking the halls that should be playing?

  11. You can say what you like but I know a lot of the players pretty well. I might be a fan but I know if your players don't agree with what your doin you can't win. Our middle schools need to step it up a notch too. Half the coaches I think just want a paycheck. I have tried to step in along with some other ppl that know basketball well to work with the middle schools. But the coaches don't wanna have anything to do with it. Its kinda sad. We used to be pretty dang good year in and year out.

Well theres only four middle schools in the county they can't all be lazy?!? Can they?? As far as you stepping in did you talk with the coach first or did you just step in without proper permission? I don't reallyhave a dog in this race except that its easy to sit in the stands and know basketball/football and then coach because sometimes you need a little talent to go with the knowledge to make anything happen. Calipari could come and coach any of our county middle schools and still not beat Inman this year! They got talent year in and year out, but struggle against the Jackson schools with more talent. I hated sitting in our football stands two years ago listening to idiots bad mouth coach Gaddis when in reality they did not have a clue what they were talking about. But because the played in their glory days they were experts. Also, who's we? Players have to buy into what the coaches preaching if fans(parents) moan and groan about they don't like this or that they undermine what the coach is trying to do and thus are a cancer on the team. But if you realy want to coach go talk to Kriesky I'm sure he could get you a waiver and you could get a whistle and whip whatever team your talking about into shape! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  12. Gameday......finally. It took a lot longer this week than last week. What time is everybody leavin out?

And for the fans that can't make it I will be postin the score durin the game like I did last week.

How are you doing the posting from the game? A computer or a Blackberry?

  13. Fastcat, you have got to be kidding. Allen ran the ball 7 times. Three for touchdowns from inside the eight yard line. This somewhat limits you to how many yards you can get. Take those three carries away and he averged over eight yard per carry on his other four. That't pretty stout. And as long as we are quoting stats, Teague had only 4 carries for 117 yards. Talk about yards per carry! He also is perfect in the air; two for two for 90 yards. I put HC's offense up against anyone in the state, and by the end of the season Teague and Allen will be leading the state in yards per carry just as they did last year. You need to open your eyes and look at the hard facts.

???? I thought this was the Dickson County thread????

  14. I am with you on the off base subject matter.

    How about this.

    Season Openers for Region 7-4A

    Winners

    HCHS -Pats over NW

    Brighton over Frayser

    HCHS over Westwood

NS over SS (this should be a good one, but give the edge to NS)

    Dyer Co over Liberty

    Haywood over JCM (Rivary game)

    Millington over Munford

    Anybody think different?

I've heard Liberty has gotten several transfers and that they would surprise many in the region? Any one else hear these rumors? Any truth? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

  15. Yanker we in Henry Land are dealing with things just fine. At least I am! Pats will deal with their success when the season is over not before. THey bottled some of last year's juice, you might need some for your Delirium.

I see a scrimmage as a skirmish not a game. The winner is the team that is able to identify weaknesses and improve upon them and can complete the skirmish without injury. I would say the Pats coaching staff looks at those skirmishes the same way.

The trenches are critical for any team success. The tough part of the line is you are having to replace 3-4-5 or more players each year not 1 back or 1-2 receivers. It will be a fun and exciting year to see how the line improves and matures from game 1.

Great points wingman! Both O and D lines for any team are imperative for success.

Just a note of interest. A reporter from the Tennessean is at practice today talking to folks and making pictures. Seems that we may finally be getting some respect across the state and some media coverage from the middle TN folks.

Thats pretty cool! Maybe they can send him to Jackson and photograph the elusive yanker!! lol /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  16. I frankly don't care who you agree with. The simple facts are that we better improve a whole lot on the defensive line and in the passing game. I sincerely hope we do. I certainly hope our coaches aren't telling our players that things are as great as you sensitive fans seem to think they are. If they are, then we are in trouble.

Look back at my earlier post from Mon. night and you'll see that I have not said everything was peachy, but it is only a scrimmage and scrimmages are designed to see areas of strength and areas of weakness. I'm not going to get hateful and bicker with a fellow Patriot fan because that is counter productive and looks ridiculous to our fans and the fans of other team throughout the state. Let's all just say we're excited about the upcoming game and let our players and coaches worry about the finer points of the game. 10 more days to kickoff!!!

  17. I do not know which scrimmage you watched, the first score was via the air on the Patriots first possession. Did you happen to notice that #34 ran the ball about 3 times in the first 30 plays, and that # 3 ran the ball about 3 times in the first 30 plays? I would say that you were more concerned with number of scores than noticing the obvious. I am sure coach Gaddis was looking at a few players as he nows what 34 and 3 can do. On game night, 3 and 34 will account for more plays than jsut a combined 20%. The Patriots may not have looked as good as they were last year but they did not look great against Hopkinsville last year at this time or Father Ryan. Both were not pretty performances by the Patriots, was it because the coaches were looking at some things and not trying to win a scrimmage in which each team gets 10 plays without down and distance? I dont know, but you must.

I completely agree with the prophet, coaching staffs know what some guys can do and in scrimmages they are assessing talent in many areas. The average person only sees the scoreboard.

  18. I think we will miss Lamar more than most realize. He did a great job of stopping the run and putting pressure on the QB. I don't have game film to back me up, but I would expect that he got a double team more times than not!

I believe our secondary will be improved from last year so that will be a plus. I just hope they will not be leading the team in tackles.

Offensively if this new guy is as good as what I've read and seen on the web ( see dynamo's link) thanks by the way then we will have another dagger to throw at the already stressed out and frustrated defensive coordinators of Class 4A Region 7! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Heard that we've got several able wide receivers so that will be nice.

Finally, would like to ask the question because I've heard it alot and thats why we don't return punts. Now I have felt that the coaching staff may be telling the guys to leave it alone and not risk bobbling it and causing a turnover. Like the opponent last year who was that Treadwell that bobbled two punts for turnovers? Others say thats fine but at least catch it and not lose yardage. If anyone knows what the philosophy is from the coaching staff I'm just interested. If my memory serves me correctly we did field a few punts last year, but mostly let them fly over and let them be. Well, looking forward to another great year in Patriotland! GO BIG RED!!

    P.S. Where's Yanker his rants amuse me? Think he's schmoozing with the new coach? /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

  19. Nope it`s definitely WEST TN. Last time I checked Paris was still on the left side of the river. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Don`t know how Paris will end up this year, but it`s definitely a year for Patriot fans to look forward to with both Teague and Allen. I can certainly see why you are excited and with good reason. However, it takes more than 2 players to win it all, but those are two pretty good ones to start off with.

I'd have to agree with VG. Who are the likely guys to step in for Nick Russell and Zach Jones. They were great role players and forced the defense to stay honest. Replacing those guys is crucial on the offensive side.

  20. Slow time here for HC fans so I'm offering my opinion. It will be interesting to see what others think. Present players are excluded:their story is not yet complete. My apologies to those left out---my memory is not what it once was.

What about "Jaybird"Palmer I think he may have played at UTM for a year or two. I remeber he was strong on the line.

  21. You are right, we didn't just win the district but I do disagree with you on one statement. You mention them having horrible shot selection and saying northeast is garbage and won't go very far. Well from personal experience the worst defense I ever had to face was a 1-3-1, I hated playing against it because it does frustrate you and lots of times, if played right, it can cause bad shots. So when you say they are bad because they took horrible shots, you might think about giving a little credit to the defensive effort, as it was one of the best I have seen Henry put out in many years. Hope the boys can build on it.

Been a while since I could get on here!! Boy this has been a volatile room but that has seem to subside with a greta win Fri. night. Coach is doing good job and the boys are working hard. 10 AAA is an extremely competitive district so you've got to be really good and always on your game to come out with a win.

One question though. I agree with the statement that the 1-3-1 is a difficult defense to play against. So if this be the case why do most coaches insist on playing man. Why do they not play zone more if it warrants it? What are your thoughts? Congrats to the Pats on their win and I hope they continue their winning ways on Tues.
