  1. Brentwood giving up 17 points is not the question. Can Smyrna score 17 points is the real question.popcorneater.gif

Smyrna dropped 3 touch down passes last week . if they just correct that problem they will be able to score at least 17 points.

I think we will see a different Smyrna team this week. A lot of guys were in " shock and aw " that they were on the field last Fri nite.

I think we will see a little less "deer in the head lights " expressions against Brentwood.

    Smyrna 21 Brentwood 24

I agree that the best players should play. Regardless of what grade you are in. Just because you are a senior doesn't mean that the spot is automaticaly yours. You have to compete everyday. But if we are sitting our best to get playing time for the future then in my opinion that is wrong. You ask a player to put out and if they do it better than anyone then you have to reward them for it. Otherwise you have lied to them. The JV team was down 21-0 in the third when I left. The freshman team looked good. A bunch of talent and very deep. Congrats on the win. Oakland has an outstanding freshman quarterback. Young man is fast.

I think you just "nailed" it !

  3. Is there an archive on that?

They have a tough schedule the rest of the way. It will be interesting to see how well attended the games are in a down year.

It appears that the Smyrna coaches think going winless could really happen. Today I was informed by a few players that smyrna

coaches are going to bench some seinor players in order to give under classmen more valuable playing time . Getting more playingtime for these guys will improve Smyrna's chances of bouncing back next however it doesnt show much loyalty to the players who have given their all for the previous three years....

  4. whats wrong with dee mathers, riverdale was also missing key back in ricardo terry. he has a slightly sprain ankle.

The Smyrna team that everyone saw last nite will not be the team you will see through out the season. Seven starting players were side lined do to injuries. All-be-it while Smyrna is down this year , they are not as down as some would hope.

Smyrna has always put competetive atheletes on the field......

  5. Riverdale wins 21-14.

Congrats to Riverdale ! You earned it! Smyrna hung tough and gave themselves a chance to win to the last tic on the clock ,however, some nerves seemed to have gotten rattled in the last few minutes of the game. Still time to step up and recover!

  6. As someone who has seen Smyrna this year at Brentwood and both Riverdale games I am pretty sure it will not be 35-7.

Smyrna should have won 42-7 at Brentwood, fumbling at their 1 and then later having a 107 yard int return called back. Smyrna is FAST. Extremely FAST. And their quarterback is as tough as nails.

This should be a fun game to watch. Speed on both teams is amazing. The team that does not make the huge mistake wins this one. And I hope this is just the first of two meetings.

The Riverdale QB looked good at St X . However he may recieve more pressure from the Bulldog defense. If he gets rattled early by the "Hit Squad" then "GAME OVER" !

  7. Congrats to Smyrna - well played ball game on both sides of the ball. The better team won. My Bruins have got to keep working to get better. I do hope Coach Williams will get a handle on some of the on field behaviour. The referees called one personal foul for the "Look at me as I stand over you after I've made the tackle" and missed 2 more. This is not a slam against the Bulldogs but I just hate that stuff from ANY team INCLUDING the Bruins.

Good Luck Milo and the Dawgs the rest of the year. Enjoy your District :)

Yeah they missed two more allright ! Like the call when the Brentwood player muffed the punt return and they threw the flag on us and the phanto block in the back call when #8 for Smyrna returned a 102yd interception down the Brentwood side line. Plus there was shoving after the plays by Brentwood players that were totally ignored. Both teams played great ball and if your team had won Im sure your comments would be more congratulatory....good luck with the rest of your season !

  8. As an interested but "retired" Bruin fan, I watched the game in Cookeville from my usual sideline position. We are young, young, young, young, and young. Cookeville is ....... well lets put it this way: "At this point in the season, they have a long way to go". I think our JV team could have beaten them.

Due to this, it is way too early to call the Bruins a sure winner over Smyrna. They have to make big improvement on offense as they are going to see a different level of team speed.

One thing to consider. Kicking game is really solid between Alt and England. They did a great job.

My money's on Coach Crawford and da Bruins but only by a prepubescent chest hair.

Smyrna lost to A pretty good BGA team as a result of mistakes from a lack of concentration. Bulldogs have

the speed and tallent to hang with anybody in the state . Just have to keep their heads in the game !

  9. Hope you are right Eddie, but I'll believe it when I see it.

The only reason the new bleachers and press box are going in is because they were damaged in a storm beyond repair.

There are 5th year seniors on this years team that were told the same time line when they signed 5 years ago. :bored:

Cumberland could have their hands full with this years opener when the travel to Linsdsey Wilson in Ky.

  10. Never been to a game at Smyrna...can someone fill me in on what to expect i.e. parking, pre-game tailgating, crowd size, atmosphere, etc.. Should be a great game. Smryna fans may be surprised to see how few players BGA has and the lack of size on the line. However, I would not underestimate them. Most of these guys have been starting since they were Sophomores. If BGA doesn't wear out in the fourth quarter from playing both ways, it should be close. Smyrna looks really fast but not very big. Anyone know what the average size is on the line?

Smyrna has plenty of parking on both sides of the school. Sometimes there is a vendor selling hot fish sandwiches in the parking lot. we have concessions on the home and visitor side of the field. The visitor side seating is kind of small however you are more than welcome to sit on the home side. The fans are very friendly. The atmosphere will be very electric . Smyrna students past and present will be on the field with painted bodies to create a human tunnel for the players to run through and the band will be playing from start to finish. When the game is over the band will play "Happy Trails To you " whether we win or loose....Im sure you will enjoy your visit....

  11. Smyrna has struggled with private schools, this is a BGA team that put up 28 points against a state champion Ensworth team that really beat up Smyrna last year. BGA is returning nearly every impact player. I like BGA to take this one 31-27!!

Just judging from Smyrna's spring and summer scrimmages im guessing Smyrna-35 BGA-14 !

  12. Tre Haynes (#55) is not the one that caused Coach Williams (Smyrna) to get hit. The young man that caused it hit a Smyrna player and his helmet flew off hitting Coach Williams in the jaw. He has since been kicked off the team. There are several key players included in the suspensions, including #55, but they were all not given the same punishments. It's not yet clear who got what suspensions. I'll try to get it all cleared up at the Jamboree tonight. Still haven't heard anything on the Smyrna end, which leads me to believe nothing was done. Maybe I'm being pessimistic about that, but maybe one of the Smyrna folks could let us know about that.

Here is what happened frame by frame acording to to the tape of the game.

#14 and #24 for gallatin line up in power I the ball is given to the full back #24 . 24 is pushed back .the whistle blows,

and 24 for gallatin is thrown to the ground. flag is thrown. as everyone gathers around to get the penalty from the umpire, #24 jumps up runs through the crowd and grabs a smyrna player. the fight starts. smyrna player grabs 24. #14 for gallatin charges another smyrna player. two smyrna players grab 14. #28 for gallatin removes his helmet and began striking smyrna players . gallatin coach grabs #28 and #28 for gallatin throws his helmet at smyrna player. #55 for gallatin runs in from sideline and blind sides the same smyrna player that #24 for gallatin hit.#69 runs in from side line and blind sides another smyrna player who's helmet hits smyrna coach in the head . #55 and #69 then run back to the side line.

Anyone who watches the tape in slow mo cannot dispute what happened.

  13. Saw to the Blackman BGA scrimmage yesterday. Although I watched from behind Blackman’s bench, with the sun blazing in my eyes. I really don't think Smyrna will lose. BGA’s QB is the real deal!!!! Looked 2-3-4X better than old cement shoes for Blackman. Smyrna’s speed should overcome a very well coached/disciplined BGA team. Smyrna for the W.

Smyrna will have a good chance if their QB play settles down. Im not even sure who the starter is going to be as of right now.
