  1. Region 7 had a fairly good showing at the state tournament this year. Congrats to Chris Soubon who placed 3rd at 103, Eric Rucker 6th at 119, TJ Pegram 6th at 215, and Quentin Robinson 6th at 285. All of you represented your school and our region with respect. Which now brings me to the other medalist in our region, Shawn Garrett. Shawn had a great tournament, and should have been in the finals, dominated his semi match, but made a mistake and got caught. What ensued was embarrasing to Coach Whitaker, East Lit High, region 7, and Mr and Mrs. Garrett. Wasn't on the mat, but Shawn was hit with an unsportsmanlike after being pinned, and then received a second and a DQ from the tournament. Shawn is a great wrestler, his downfall is his temper. Something most in our region know about, but this time he showed most of the Tennessee wrestling community. I hope Shawn gets it together, that attitude could be his downfall. Coach Whitaker and his "12" assistants have done a great job with their program, and IMHO, Shawn is a cancer who needs some consequences for his actions. Wrestling is an emotioanally charged sport, but also controlled. Things happen, come back out next time and make up for your mistakes, in his case, there was not a second chance, and it cost him a great chance on the biggest stage in Tennessee wrestling.

yes.. region 7 definately had a descent showing.. i believe gentuso was 1 match away from placing as well, soboun will be a force next year, congrats to all of region 7.. and about the whole shawn situation.. if he would have held his temper in.. he would have been the champion.. he had a good showing.. but, i do believe he wont be wrestling with east literature next year.. sad to hear it.. but, its a result of his actions.. if garret cant wrestle with east lit, does that mean he cant go to any school in metro?

anyways, there were a couple of boys that could have easily placed.. whether it was a point away or a call away..

    great job boys

  2. I'm glad to have been able to entertain you two. These are just my picks. Sometimes a person has to go against the grain a bit, and somewhere there is logic behind them. Thanks for the critique.

wow.. your picks baffle me.. at 215 you have worley who barely beat east lit 2-1 getting 2nd.. when Glencliff beat east lit 13-3.. and gibson getting 6th? did he even win his region?

  4. haha. mclovin doesn't even know who Carl Crawford IS.

    mclovin...it was a 7.16 sixty most likely.

umm. actually i do.. lol.. but, im pretty sure it wasnt a 7.16.. but, you keep thinking that

  5. I didnt know they allowed computer use in mental facilities.. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

    Carl Crawford.. 6.36 in 1999 as a man..not a young high school kid. I dont see it...whether your crazy eyes /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> saw it or not.

I mean i hate to say it but I agree with the Farragut guy. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> But when I saw him he was only 69 feet tall and only weighed 7 tons...he must have found a new love in roids. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

well then.. i guess if you dont believe me.. come and see it yourself..

  6. Who cares what he runs, if he can throw 80 something from his knees and 90 from the mound and hits 500,-----------give the fella break.

wow.. finally someone steps in and shows a positive side.. lol.. i mean c'mon.. i think you have to be the only 1 that sees my point of view..

  7. The average SEC player runs a 7.0 sixty which is about a 4.75 forty. The average position player throws about 85 to 86 m.p.h from the field. There is no way the guy ran a 6.16 60....

ok.. soo, your telling me there is no way he runs a 6.16 in 60? i saw it with my own eyes!! but, you dont have to believe me.. im just stating what i KNOW!

  8. Since you know so much about him, it's quite obvious you play for Glencliff.

haha.. umm, i guess you coulda said that about 15 years ago.. i havent thrown a baseball in years.... but, im just someone that follows pretty much all of glencliffs sports.. from football, to basketball, to wrestling, and baseball...

  9. A 4.7 60 my ######... seriously thats like someone gettin on here and saying they ran a 3.9 40.. and if your boy was that good you wouldnt have to try to scare people

lets clear this up.. its in the 40 that he runs a 4.7

  10. I guess that's why they call it "Catching", not "Missing"... but yeah, 60% ain't bad, but what 60% are we talking about? Every pitch, or just dirt balls? I'd say an All-State type catcher should block at least 85% of dirt balls.

ohh no.. he caught 100% of all the balls.. but, they just had more left handed pitchers to throw than right.. ya get what im saying? and if your counting every pitch.. he only missed maybe 5%.. and those were dirt balls.. he has a huge body frame.. soo, its easier to block them. some of the balls just squeak by ya sometimes i guess.

  11. Well I'd say you've brought this guy enough attention that someone other than his parents will be watching this year.

Scout or No Scout we shall see.

i know i will be at a couple games.. considering i havent seen him since this summer

  12. No disrespect to any of the other teams, but this year will be a dogfight b/w Antioch, E. Lit, and Glencliff.

yes.. it will between all 3 of these teams.. i wouldnt be suprised if these 3 teams had someone in the finals in each weight class.. but, dont let HL's fool ya. they could make some noise..

It seems as if everyone has been disregarding the purpose of this post. Leave it to me to step up and present my top 4 for each weight class. 103 Chris Sobourn ANT ????????????? and the heavy's? thats who its gonna probably come down to

  13. Before ripping this comment I think you should look at what was said. A release time and a POP time are different ??“ release time is the time from the ball being received (hits the mitt) till it is in the air to second. The average high school players release time would be around .85 to .90 seconds a great time is .45 to .50. The average good High School POP time (time starts when the ball hits the catchers mitt and stops when it hits the fielders mitt) is 2.05 to 2.15 many good HS catchers record sub 2.0 POPs. College catchers are usually 1.90 to 2.00; Pro catchers are 1.70 to 1.85 and accurate. Pudge Rodriguez is reported to have had 1.65 game POPs.

So a 1.2 release would not be special, 85mph from the catchers position would be very good - normally a kid that throws 90 from a mound would throw 3-5mph or more slower from the catchers position, so if we believe what is written this kid does have a cannon. Hitting .500 is good at any level, and a 4.7 (40) would be great for a catcher, a 4.7 (60) would be great for the Greek god Mercury.

However, If the kid is accurate with his throws with a little quicker release, and he knows how to block-up left handed curve balls or sliders that find dirt in front of the plate, and he can receive the ball with the ease that gives the pitcher confidence in whatever they throw, and he knows the hitters so he can call a good game, and he is not afraid to lead. He could be a prospect

all this information is true.. as far as i know, he has caught about 60% of his balls from left handed pitchers.. soo, thats a plus. he's more of your scoop type catcher.. ive never seen him miss a ball, unless its way above his head or way outside.. he's definately stout.. he knows how to block the ball and as well the plate.. i wouldnt wanna be a runner coming down third knowing he had the ball..

im not to sure how many looks he'll be getting going to glencliff and all.. but, if a couple colleges can get out there and take a look.. it would probably be a steal for any college..

  14. That's true, but there is a big difference b/w our 135's and the top guys in the state. Osaitile wrestled Graham of Bradley last weekend and was pinned in the 1st pd.

ohh. wow.. i didnt know that.. im pretty sure lett and him will have a good match if lett gets past steiner.. and i heard yahya from mcgavock might be coming back.. watch out now

  15. 103- Chris Soboun, possibly Ridley-he's pretty impressive

112-Frankie Nuffio (handily defeated Ovt's Hancock at duals)

    119-Lillard, Rucker, Aguilar

    135-Lett, Osaitile, Steiner

    140-Garrett, Chandler

    145-Mintlow

    215-Pegram

These are probably the best chances, though depending on the brackets, anything is possible.

that sounds about right.. i like all these guys as far as state comes...

135 is stacked.. region 7 could possibly have the deepest 135 pd weight class in the state..

  16. a 4.7 60 would have to be the fastest time ever. period. Now a 4.7 40, that is a different story. That is quick but not impressive fast.

well, for a catcher.. a 4.7 in the 40 is impressive if you ask me.. i saw this kid at a couple of camps this summer.. his arm appears to even better now.. one of the radar guns said 91 but, im taking the average from all the guns put together..

  17. i talked to one of the antioch wrestlers and they said he weighed in at 202 pounds

ohh. well, i guess thats out of the question..

soo, i wanna know who has a chance to place in state this year, and possibly win it from region 7..

i think lillard and lett have a pretty fair chance, as well as mintlow.

im just brewing up the pot.. lets hear some more

  18. if im not mistaken he is back his name was in the sports section... it said that antioch was down 18-6 early in the match then it got tied 24 and rhodes wrestled up to hwy and pinned hendersonville in 2:22... i think antioch got 6th though over all which is really good for antioch

well then, i guess he is.. he should just wrestle heavyweight.. lol.. and congrats to all of region 7.. great showing..
