  1. I honestly feel that the next two or three years for Lady Pioneer basketball will be a very interesting. Gc truly has the making of a state championship team. And as many other have said the coaching staff is arguably one of the best since GCHS opened the doors in 1981. LAst year the Lady Pioneers shocked a lot of people and opened some eyes. This year with all eyes on GC i am confident that they will not let anyone down. As far as predicting a record, i would like to see the Lady Pioneers go undefeated but again as somebody said in an earlier post, teams have off nights. But i can say that Gc will not lose more than 2 game in the regular season. The only team that may be able to pull off a win would be Westview, any other loss would honestly just be a toss up and and declared an upset. I have total faith that the GC will make it past the first round of state this year. But im not gonna be the one that jinxes them. Mostly all we know are teams around here. It's a whole new game up at MTSU. But rest assured this will b a great year for girls basketball, not just at GC but for all of District 13 AA, it's been said before but this is truly a loaded district that is young. But Next year when all these girls turn seniors will be a sad year because it will be the last for them, but it will be very exciting as well. Good luck to all the teams and get ready for a great season!

  2. I think the Pioneers are a better team than Dresden, BUT if they don't play like it they will get mauled by the Lions. The only positive thing i can think of is right now is every time the Pioneers have lost this season they have won the next game, so maybe we can pull this one out. In my opinion, which don't mean a whole lot, I think the Pioneers were beat Friday night as soon as Trenton got that first TD, they just gave up you could tell the feeling on the sidelines just went down hill, FAST! The Pioneers just have to keep fighting no matte what until the last buzzer sounds. I have faith in GC and i think that despite Matt Smith being out for the season, Lee Whitaker will do a great job, he has an arm and has the ability to get things done. Matt had a great season but he will be back next year. Whitaker is a sophomore so i think it will be a great time to get him out in the game and get him prepared for when Smith leaves he can just step in. Im looking for GC to win,

if they play like they played against peabody GC 6 Lions 0

If they play like they played at TCA GC 21 - Lions 7

    good luck to both teams!

  3. The Pioneers are going to have to step it up this week. From what i have heard from reliable sources, GC did not do that great against West Carroll, i heard they played sloppy. But what i do know is that this years GC team has what it takes to make it to play-offs, IF they do their job. GC has 3 really good RB's and a good QB who is getting better with every game. Im looking for GC to pull out the win, only if they play like they did against TCA, they fought the whole game. Because make no mistake, Peabody will be fight for every inch Friday and i feel that they know this is the last chance for a W, as somebody in an earlier post pointed out. Good luck to both teams but as a GC fan im pulling for the Pioneers.

    GC - 34

    Peabody - 14

look for Jake Hill to have a good game, just have a feeling he is gonna be the play-maker Friday.

  4. bump...anyone else have any predictions or observations?

Hopefully i wont get slammed for going for my home team like last week. But im looking for the Pioneers to come out on top tonight. As GCPioneer has stated GC did play a good game although the score did not reflect it. It's just one of those cases where you had to be there to understand. If any of our back get a break away go on put a 6 on the scoreboard. And i feel since many of them are juniors and sophomores this says a lot about what next year will be like, but e will burn that bridge when we get there. Im not expecting a blow out tonight, but i am expecting to see a different Pioneer team. We have one W and one L, so hopefully we will pull a GC 34 and TCA 20, hope everyone has a safe trip over to windy city road!

  5. You say that GC probably wants it more than Milan. I hope that's not true. If it is, then Milan is not as good as we think they are. Not saying GC doesn't want to win, but I don't think the Milan coaches are going to allow Milan to be complacent. It will be a good game, but Milan is too balanced. They will pull away. I say they win by 2 or 3 TD's.

Reason i say that is that if Milan beats GC, nobody will really talk about it. but if GC beats Milan, there will be news crews there, lol. I just think that it would be a bigger deal to GC that it would be to Milan. Im sure that the dawgs want to win, but there comes a time when you kinda just expect it and that is when things come back and bite you in the butt, lol. But regardless i really really hope it don't rain Friday night, lol

  6. Well here is the deal and this is just my random idea. But take a look at last years Super Bowl, Giants were not supposed to win, well they did. And the patriots were a better team, "in theory". Who knows maybe GC can pull out an upset, and it would be the upset of the century, btw. But there have been many times when they underdog came thru and shocked the world. Think of all the underdog stories out there. Remember the titans, we are marshall, bad news bears, lol. The thing is any team can be beat on any given day. Milan has, well they have everything going their way. But GC does want to win, if they even have a hint of fear that they are going to loose they just need to stay in the field house. The Pioneers want it prolly more than the Bulldogs. Im sure Milan has it in their head that they are going to stomp a mud hole in GC. And that is not being cocky, well it may be a lil bit. But they hear and read just like we do. So they are expecting to win. So i am just throwing this out there. Im looking for it to be a good game because GC will have to fight, and if they have to fight this hard in week 2, and they actually hang with Milan, think about what they will do in all other games this year, Even if Gc loses, they will understand what it is to fight, and fight hard they will have to. But im going out on a limb and im gonna call the upset Gc by 1 or 6. If your gonna dream dream big, lol.

  7. I think we will see two improved teams on Friday.

Gibson is quicker than last year from all counts I've seen and heard.

Halls has improved greatly over the past two seasons but the W-L record doesn't show it.

The Tigers lost the first 6 games of the '07 season by a collective 8.5 points per game, including a 10-point loss to open the season in Dyer.

The major problem for Halls was its propensity for not scoring...the Tigers were great between the 20s but would sputter in the red zone.

A new spread offense seems to be helping immensely in the preseason.

If the D can hold like last season, look for a much better win-loss record. I'm not saying 8 or 9 wins, but the Tigers should win the games that are close this season.

    ALL THAT SAID,

The Tigers reverse the result from a year ago and win by 9 at HG Conley Memorial Stadium in Halls.

(PS...Pioneer Fans...does your TV station go to road games?)

I used to own the TV station there but i have since retired but there is a new guy that got it back up i don't know if he is planning doing games or not. It would be great if he did. But we had fun doing it.

  8. From what i see and understand is that if the line can open up some holes for Arnold, then GC will have no problem putting numbers on the board. Friday night really can't give us an idea of what the team is capable of. Because there were a lot of players that were out and the ones that were out just happened to be some good starters. But given what we know i feel that GC will be able to pull out a win over Halls. Im not looking for a blow out by any means. But i think GC can pull out a W. Good luck Pioneers!

  9. The coach we had before Coach Harshaw was Coach Scott Bowlin whom now coaches Green Co. Tech in Paragould Arkansas. Coach Bowlin won the 4A or 5A State Championship last year in Arkansas and his son Skyler Bowlin is now playing ball at Missouri Southern, I believe. Skyler played his Jr. High ball at Rutherford Jr. High and was very good. They moved to Arkansas at the start of his Freshman year.

I've heard about Coach Allen from Trenton. His daughter does attend Gibson Co. now and might be a worthy reason for leaving. I guess he might figure Gibson Co. could have a better chance of participating in 13AA than Trenton would in 14A. Trenton lost almost every player that played last year. Gibson Co. somewhat returns a few players.

I've noticed Coach Hopkins at ALOT of Gibson Co. and Jr. Pioneer ball games. I'll say one thing, IF Butch get's in at Gibson Co., you can bet on Hudson being and playing at Gibson Co.

I feel that Eddings would be a great coach at GC. But i hate to put it like this but whatever it takes to get and keep the talent. The Hudson kid is a good player as well as Mitchell. But i guess i thoughts are you have to do what you have to do, but either of those two would be great for the job. I don't really know coach Hopkins, but i do have a lot of respect for Larry Eddings.

  10. I feel that this will probably be one of the tougher games that GC will play to date. I mean it is the state tourny so all the teams are going to be good. But after watching the Lady Pioneers evolve every game and get better, i can honestly say there are no limits on what they can do. All i do know is that if GC is down by 20 or more at the half, get ready for the Heather Butler show! With her ability to step up and lead and make shots, Griffins abilty to get the rebounds and make big plays, the quickness of Jennings, Garners threes, and Pates D, we should be in very good shape. As far as our bench goes, we have nothing to worry about. Schlesinger can do her job, and Murphree and Huey can put up some serious D. But it's gonna be an awesome game, and Congrads to all the teams that made it to the Burro.

im gonna pick GC by 8.

Championship game i pick GC vs Milan, it would be cool.

  11. We weren't yelling during the national anthem! As for the thing about the kid getting pulled out by the cops, I only heard and didn't see. One of the cops also pulled one of our kids down and straightened him out as well before the game long before Milan students got there. The cops told them to get in the stands and someone smarted off and they brought him down too.

For Butler, she's the second best player in the District behind Poston as Poston does have 2 years advantage on her. Butler COULD NOT be stopped offensively. She also had a quicker and taller Gray on her! Butler is the real deal and will lead Gibson Co. for the next 2 years! Don't forget, only 1 Senior starting this year and possibly the best Freshman class to come through Gibson Co. next year! It's going to be a great couple of years!

I am just happy that both teams get to stay in a play next Saturday, i expect both teams to do well. Yes Milan has to go to Memphis, but the way i see it, it ain't about where you play it's how you play. Good luck to both teams Saturday night

  12. No, this is not GC's best team ever. GC had some great teams back with Tiffany Adkins (my cousin /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> ) as well as when Holly Milligan was there. As much of a tradition as there is at GC in girls basketball, GC has NEVER won a gold ball or a silver ball! Closest we've came in awhile was back in 2001 I believe when we had Ashley Simpson, Hayden Avery, Jennifer Farrar, Ashley Mackin, and Melissa George. We beat Upperman in the first round of state and then lost to South Green in the semi-finals. I believe we do make it to state this year.

As for the next few years to come, it's going to be an unbelievable ride! With the talent we have coming up from the Jr. Highs, we will be that much better. The Jr. Pioneers finished 17-2 this year and Medina finished 16-3 I believe. The Jr. Pioneers have Megan Porter coming up whom was the best PG I saw in Jr. High this year as well as Taylor Hassell who can light it up and play VERY GOOD Defense. I'm not sure on the Medina girls names but I do know they have a girl with the last name of Brooks whom is VERY GOOD! jvaughan, maybe you could elaborate a little more on who would be coming to play from there.

7:00 is a little less than 7 hours away!

Talking about the Medina teams, how do you think Medina High school will affect that? Because the last year for Medina students to play at GC will be next year. I think they are planning to open the school in August of 2009ish.. But I don't know who goes where etc. I mean like Butler is from Medina, that would put Medina High School opening her senior year, so what's gonna happen are the students gonna get to pick?

  13. First, I do not think this is GC's best team, but certainly good. Patterson had a couple of great teams, as did Russell (unbeaten in Regular Season). However, next year GC will have one of their best ever.

As for the Region, GC is sitting in a great place, but they have to perform. As I have stated elsewhere, I am expecting GC to make the finals, but never, never underestimate what Rechis and Westview can pull off. Last week proved such. They will not go down without a fight.

In the other bracket, tonight's OC/Northside game may be a war, and it is a toss up. I think OC is the better team, certainly more experienced. However, Coach Lowery is a winner and always has his teams at their best at tournament time, plus they are at home.

Milan should have no problem with Haywood, so it will be another barn burner when Milan plays OC/Northside winner. Milan has advantage of only having to play hard for one game versus two, as they have to come out with intensity to be successful. Too close to call as well.

I feel that the OC/Northside game will be the closest of night. Both have good records, thats all i have to base my opinion on as i have not seen Northside play. But who knows what will happen, everyone has beaten everyone in out district. That just proves we are all equal and have a fair shot of making it to state. It's gonna be an interesting 2 weeks. But Amen about next years team.

  14. So the Lady Pioneers go into this 4th in the district, the last of all the teams in our district, right? Well i think the Bible says the first shall be last and the last shall be first, does that mean GC will win Regions? Not putting my money on it yet but i most definitely feel they will make it to sub-state. But if they don't look for the sports section of the paper to be a lil shorter til softball starts up, lol. But i think GC will rock FW tonight. Im not sure but would anyone care to comment if this is one of the best Lady Pioneer teams ever? I know the year Atkins played they were really good, but i don't know before that. Any comments from GC Pioneer or nwtnsports or ladyneerfan?

  15. 100% might be stretching it just a bit...but it never hurts to hope... she will just be glad to be out there playing and helping her teammates....

    GO LADY PIONEERS!!!!

Im glad she is felling better, but about the not 100%, Griffin could be playing at 50% and be better than most of the girls in the region, lol. But now everyone better watch out the 2 Heather's are back! It's going to be a great tournament, im picking Milan and GC will meet again in the championship. Poston did well in the last game, but Griffin was not there. So it will be an even better game than last time.

  16. Thanks GC... she is feeling better... but still not sure about Thursday night.... Coach will make the decision before the game...it should be a good game to watch....

    Go Lady Pioneers!!!!!

I hope Griffin makes it, but if she don't im scared to see what she does when she comes back, lol, she will prolly get another double double, or better. Im sure Heather would be the first to tell you that one player does not win a game, she had plenty of help. If Griffin don't play look for Butler, Jennings and Garner to shoot the lights out, and J. Pate can handle the rebounds. Im not sure who would be the 4th starter, maybe Erica Schlesinger?

I hope Heather gets well soon!

Regions, i pick GC and OC to win

    Substate, Im picking GC.

State, i have no idea, but i would like GC to win, but we all want our teams to win.

The bottom line is that Milan, GC, and OC all have played awesome basketball this year and they all have played seasons they can be proud of win or lose.

But if GC happens to lose the will come back with a vengence next year and prolly go all season without a loss, lol.

I will go on the record and say that i think GC will bring home a girls state championship within the next 3 years.

Ya'll have a great week and everyone be careful on your way to Milan.

    God Bless

  17. Thursday Nights game between GC and Milan will be a great game but, how ironic is it that if GC wins, and OC wins, That will be another awesome game. The 2 teams that tied for number one in the district getting to battle for the Chamionship. GC vs Milan, i really hope that GC pulls thru and i feel that they can. But i do pick OC over Westview. And the would put OC weither facing GC or Milan in the Championship. So no matter who win between GC and Milan, it's going to be a great Championship game. But i have to go with the Lady Pioneers cause for one i went to GC, and two i only cover GC sports so i like to write about wins, lol

Anybody got any favs for Region play yet?

  18. You are correct in that GC has more offensive players and definately has a better bench. My only disagreement is that Milan is not just about Poston. Gray has been Milan's MVP this year, although we all know Poston is a great talent. The rest of Milan is made up of good role players, but offensively, it is Gray/Poston. Basically it comes down to 2 players vs 4 players, however the 2 players are two of the best in the state. With all this said, the difference will probably not be the players, but will come down to coaching, which is where GC will have the advantage. Still too close to call.

    And the people said "AMEN"!

I would not put money on either team, like you said it's too close to call. But it's gonna be one to talk about for weeks to come.

  19. Obion / Westview could be fun for a while, but OC is too strong and I expect them to pull away the second half, although Westview will give it their best shot. I am guessing a 10-15 point OC win, but not selling the view short, it is just that OC is loaded.

Gibson County / Milan is too close to call. They split regular season and I expect another close one. GC must hit their open looks and Milan must handle the pressure.

I look forward to a great night of BB.

I feel like Gibson County will pull this one out. The reason is that when ever somebody says anything about Milan all you hear about is Chantell Poston. When you go to the Milan girls roster on here, lol, the only player they have listed is Chantell. I AM NOT SAYING SHE IS NOT AN AWESOME PLAYER because she is one of the best in the district maybe even the state.

But when you think about GC you dont just think about one player, you have Heather Griffin, Heather Butler, Jeniqua Jennings, and J. Pate does her part. Don't forger Garner who can shoot the lights out, and clearly the GC bench is strong because from what i understand hardly any of the GC starters played in the second half Monday night, and GC still won 90-34, granted it was Crocket County and they have had trouble this year. But reguardless of how good one player is, one player does not win a game, it takes a team effort. But reguardless of all that i said it's probably going to be the best game of the year no matter who wins. Im pretty excited and i feel that it will be a packed house with standing room only for this match up. Hope all of you have a great week.

  20. Well deserved BO! Wonder how many laps he put in around tht gym.

Well if you figure a mile is 10 laps, so at least 10 laps a day and about 6 days a week, for 27 years? if my calculations ar right 84240 times.....give or take about 40 or 50, prolly give. If anyone deserved it, it was Bo Booth.
