  1. I've played a game on a day that had rain for three hours before the match. The fied had puddles and was a muddy mess. It would have been ugly even on a sunny day. When the match started, the sun went down and the temperature dropped to below freezing. It started to sleet and players were getting very wet and very cold.

I wouldn't say that games are cancelled all the time. They are often played in the worst of conditions

  2. The forecast is showing rain every day for the next 7 days. That means a couple of things:

1.) The Portland v. White House game will be played under wet conditions

2.) at least part of the district tournament will be muddy

Any thoughts on how this will affect either of these situations?

  3. what I love about young teams is they don't know they're supposed to lose. They go out and play every game with the confidence that is unparralled sometimes. Also, they improve faster than most teams since they have so much to learn. Young kids absorb everything you tell them and try their hardest to put it in to practice even if they don't understand it at first. So by the end of the season, you can't really consider them a young team anymore.

As for the district, SC will probably come out on top. The thing I've noticed about them is that they're inconsistent. That's not such a big deal though because even a bad game for them is an excellent game for anyone else. It's just wierd that they come out and beat portland 8-0 and then only beat WH 3-1.

WH is pulling things together and have started clicking at exactly the right time this season. They don't have a team that is as talented as years' past but they are still a threat. Having home field at district helps as well. Thursday will be a defining day for the district as WH takes on Portland

Portland is a young team that has played consistently through the season, but inconsistently during games. When they have things going, they are dominant. If not, things go downhill for them. If they can put a full game together, watch out for these guys

As for the rest of the district, any one team could be the underdog that gets to the final. The line that was drawn in the past between the clear winners and losers in this district is much less defined this year. It's gonna be interesting. That's for sure

  4. Big district game tonight was played at MJCA. They played portland. Portland was up 2-1 with about 2 minutes left in the game and MJCA put one in to tie it

A few comments. The were terrible for both teams. And usually its not so bad as long as the calls are consistent but they weren't. It was clearly visible from the stands and the players and coaches were not happy either

MJCA played very hard and earned the tie. They had some chances to actually win the game but came up short. They were celebrating the well-earned tie. As they should have. good game by MJCA

Portland played hard as well. They were inconsistent but when they were on, MJCA didn't have an answer. They just couldn't play the full 80. Their defense didn't play very well. Maybe the worst performance of the season for them. They had some great moments too, however.

In the end, the score reflected the game. Both teams went at it and their was no clear cut winner. MJCA missed some big oppurtunities and Portland couldn't play a full game. Great game to watch

  5. Does anyone think they can beat a strong station camp team this year??? 8-0 win over Portland... not to mention the 6 goals scored in the first twenty minutes. and then another 8-0 the next day to Macon Co. and a 5-1 win over friendship? and Portland is a very classy organization as well don't leave them out. very impressed with there effort and sportsmanship. good luck to all teams in the rest of their seasons

First of all, how did station camp get brought up?

However, since they have been brought up, I'll say what I've said all year- watch out for station camp. This is a very under rated team and thats saying something because most teams are afraid of them. But not enough. This team is GOOD. very good. Need I remind you that they went to the state tourney last year and lost only one senior? Great team. They'll go deep into the postseason

As far as portland goes, class doesn't win games. Effort wins games but even that isn't enough sometimes. They're a good team but they need to prove themselves. I don't care how good SC is, 8-0 is unacceptable. I just hope they're getting better and not making excuses. Time will tell

District 7, be prepared for some good teams in the region

  6. Okay, I don't care who the keeper is, a goal from halfline is just sick. That's a 60 yarder if the field really is 119 yard long. Maybe if it were shorter then I would say it's not a huge deal but 60 YARDS?!?! The mere fact that he had the confidence to take a shot like that tells me that this kid is something else.

That's not a shot that the keeper should let get to his head. It happens. No shame in making a mistake. Just learn from it.

Congrats to Carter and good luck in the rest of the season

  7. Portland won 3-1 over Dekalb County. This was a well played game. Dekalb runs a very effective trap. Portland was called for offsides 10 times. Portland scored 3 goals by 3 different players. Each of those goalscorers were sophomores. Dekalb got in a goal in the last 2 minutes of the game. Great ball through.

Good game to both teams and good luck to both in their districts

I think highly of the Dekalb team after seeing them play last night. I was impressed with their coach and their players. Classy organization

  8. Station Camp deserves to be a little bit higher in the rankings in my opinion. With an 8-1 win over Beech and a 5-1 win over Mt. Juliet, this team is looking like a very strong team. Expect them to make some noise as the season progresses

I'm really looking forward to The Station Camp v. Hendersonville game. It's gonna be a close one

  9. Hi all,

I wanted to ask if anyone could provide me with a copy of the "instant classic" 2007 Bearden/Farragut state final match (the one that resulted in a score of 5-4). I'd compensate you generously for your effort.

Also, any helpful information would be appreciated.

Just send me a private message if you're interested, and thanks!

I don't have a copy but that was the most unbelievable game I have ever seen. I'll never forget it. I just had to say it. I still can't get over how awesome it was. Best of luck finding a copy of the game. I'd like to have one myself

  10. I've played with about 8 of the players from chester county recently and they weren't very good at all. They played very much like a rec team and had poor ball control. They didn't even have any athletes to speak of. That being said, their record this year is looking pretty strong. They tied David Lipscomb (DL tied white house heritage by the way) and have some other impressive games to speak of. I would have to assume that I didn't play with the starters of chester county and if I did there are only two things possible

1.) these guys have worked harder than anyone and are reaping the benefits (and these guys do try hard)

    or.....

    2.) they're getting quite lucky

Time will tell I suppose. I'd personally like to see their starting line up play for myself but I haven't gotten the chance yet.

Good luck to Chester County as the season progresses

  11. Wow, just thinking about last year's "Mud Bowl" makes me cringe. After last year's Tournament we roled the field, then put 3 truck loads of sand on the field and reseeded 400 lbs of Winter Rye. We were able to play on it after about 14 days, but it was never the same.

We will try and get as many games in, but we can't ruin the field like we did last year. Time will tell...

Based on how much rain we've already had and the forecast for the next couple of days, how many games do you think will get played?

  12. Well, looking at the weather, I'm thinking this year's tourney is going to be just as wet as last year. It was a mud bowl last year. The ball literally hit the ground and just stuck. If I'm not mistaken, It tore Indy's game field up so bad that they couldn't use it for the rest of the year. It's supposed to rain today, thursday, and friday. I hope it doesn't but that will change things if it does

  13. I was able to make the Portland v. Merryl Hyde game tonight and it was a good one.

Portland won tonight 1-0 but the score doesn't tell the story. The shot count was 18-3 in favor of portland. Even with gusting winds blowing right at one of the goals, portland got 9 shots on goal each half. This demonstrates their ability to adjust and still be successful. They had problems finishing but it will come.

Good job Portland. Good luck to Merryl Hyde as the season progresses

  14. I'm sorry but SC and Portland are much better than you think. Not to mention White House tied Beech. Notre dame is an extremely talented team, no shame in losing to them. And I don't know if you've seen the McMinn County schedule but they've lost to teams that any team in this state would have a very time playing (ex. Farragut, Alcoa, Ravenwood and Cookeville). As for The Portland-Macon game, that score doesn't even come close to how the game actually went. We'll see how good Portland really is when they play Merryl Hyde tomorrow

District 7 has a chance. I'm just saying don't count out district 8
