  1. I totally and completly agree. It is a choice.

There is something that I have learned that says "Given the same information, people make the same decisions". By that I mean that put through the same things Terry was, most of us would have done things the same way. Twelve short months ago he was on the verge of being fired after making it to the sub state. I can only imagine what things would have been like early this year if he had scheduled a bunch of tough teams and had a losing record early on.

God forbid if he had given he girls off season work like "hitting 30,000 3 pointers in the off season for basketball" or doing like Soddy does and schedule minimum games so they can play more tournaments and get 50 to 60 games in.

I just don' see that culture changing here. It has changed a little, but not that much and that is what I mean by "feasible". I hope I am wrong but we will see.

Are you saying that the coach had to play a weaker schedule because he was afraid of losing his job?

  2. "If they can continue their career in college anywhere and get their college paid for, then that is wonderful."

Personally I would prefer to see my daughter go to college based on her academic abilities. Don't get me wrong, it would be great for her to play at the next level, but let's be realistic. Whats more important, her

GPA or her ERA? Most college professors don't really care if you're a star athlete. Need to be hitting the books instead of worrying about all this D1 bull. Reality is if you can't make the grades those D1 coaches will be looking elsewhere. IMO.

Trying to get the thread back on track, have any of the cc players signed with anyone, if so, who? Looking back through the thread it appears as only Lawerence Co has posted their seniors and future teams. What about the rest of 8AAA. Let's hear from Columbia, Tullahoma, Franklin co, Shelbyville, Lincoln co, and Coffee.

  4. Tullahoma is very young this year I am not sure on how many seniors. I seen Coffee Counties lights on the other night, and stopped to watch them practice. I talked to one of the dads and he said they have been looking good. They looked good throwing and running, didn??™t get to see them hit because they went inside. I look for Coffee to do well this year, should make a run at the Spring Fling, And put a few girls in college. Good luck to all.

  5. Riverdale is not pitching Cat, Tullahoma is not pitching Jones. What would be the problem?????? It's about the team pick isn't it?????

So are you saying Tullahoma can't win unless Jones is pitching???? Or are you saying the other pitchers are LOSERS?????

    Please explain.

No, he is saying that with both number two pitchers throwing, that riverdale will win. He never said anything about a player being a loser.

  6. I am aviod fastpitch fan. Just wondering what is going on at Coffee, The big man helped build the Middle Tennessee fast pitch. The big man built the program and then moved on, and the program has slipped every year since, check the record, very few girls playing at the next level. How long will this be allowed. Coffee cant sink much more. What is sad is that we have played these girls for a few years and they have always beat us bad!!! It appears that something has changed, i hope for the kids sake that the coach can open his mind and make some changes, for Tullahoma i hope it stays the same!!!!!!!!!

  7. Schedule will be posted this week. List of teams::: FATHER RYAN, ST. BENEDICT, FORREST, BRENTWOOD, GILES COUNTY, BAYLOR, COFFEE COUNTY, WHITE HOUSE, GRUNDY COUNTY, MARION COUNTY, SHELBYVILLE, CUMBERLAND COUNTY, DEKALB COUNTY, HENDERSONVILLE, CHATTANOOGA CHRISTIAN, KNOXVILLE CENTRAL, LINCOLN COUNTY, MT. JULIET, RHEA COUNTY, RUTLEDGE , GREENBRIER, CORNERSVILLE, RED BANK, GOODPASTURE.

I have not talked to Cardwell yet. Does anybody know why Tullahoma is not in it?

  8. Coffee beat Lincoln Co, who by the way is fighting for last place in district 8 and barely has enough players to play. You beat 3 average single and double A schools. You are suppose to win those games. What happened during the Columbia game. Did I see their jv pitcher on the mound?

  9. hold on just one minute... first of all Terry Floyd is a GREAT coach, second of all Lady Raider softball is the winningest girls sport at Coffee County for the last decade or more. I don't care if the head coach doesn't even have a high school education as long as he is a good coach, is fair to the girls, tries to do everything exactly how it should be done and works his butt off for the team and Terry does all that and more, you can't win every game every year people need to lay off don't start any drama and by the end of this year Coffee County will be right where they should be.

I think anyone working with high school kids should have a high school diploma at a minimum. You are stretching it when you say a good eduation is not important, because that education will take a child further in life than any sport. Only a small number of high school athletes move on to the next level and as they go through the collegiate program that number decreases even more. Education is the most important thing in a child's life. You are using that very lightly in your post.

Also, please define what is fair to the girls?

  10. Well you all have your opinions and I have mine. Like it or not! Yes Terry Floyd is the head coach and Kenny Sadler is the assistant both who are not employed by Coffee County School System in any way except to coach. The special ed teacher is Amy Keele who teaches in the ninth grade wing at the high school. This was never intended to slam parents or volunter coaches. CC had the chance to hire the Shellybville head coach in softball when they hired Terry. She went on to coach at Oakland and do a great job. As for saying you don't care if they have a high school education or not thats pathetic! I think a high school head coach should at the least have a high shcool education and at this level a college education. In high school sports I want my child to be associated with a coach that is a good coach and an educated one. I realize that every situation is different and I know that some programs suffer from a teacher who would rather do anything than coach. That's tough to deal with, this is not a perfect world and was not the case with this hire. HOWEVER, in a high school setting not rec league or summer league I think the school should do everything in their power to hire quality teachers/coaches.

So you say softball has more wins than any other sport at CC well I still don't see a state championship for Floyd or Breeden. I think parents and volunteer coaches are invaluable, they make programs great. You need a set of standards when it comes to our kids. I know great coaches that got a degree in education just to coach. They could have been accountants, or lawyers or anything they chose and made a ton of money. But instead they get bashed on coacht, have late nights low pay just so they could coach. Then a guy with some knowlege of a sport no degree has to work his day job in around what should be a priority my kids season is a concern of mine.

Say what you guys want that is my opinion. I don't think having a degree makes you a good coach but I do feel you need standards. Other people have sacrificed, went to school to be in education to educate and teach and coach. If your in that enviornment I think you should walk the walk. Thats all. Did'nt mean to step on toes...

The good old boy system is alive and well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Louie you seem to know alot about these coaches. Tell me how did they get their softball knowledge. Did they play ball in high school or college? I know not all non faculty coaches are regular joes. Coach Cardwell at Tullahoma did play college and professional baseball and does hold a teaching certificate even though he is a non faculty coach. These coaches you are speaking of must be pretty good if the administration has put them in that position. I just don't get it. Is there something else going on at coffee county that you are not saying because the program does not appear to be as strong as it once was.

  11. I'm not from Shebyville. I'm just glad to see that every team in this district is so equal, and it's going to make a strong showing in the region when it's all over. I have got to see every team in this district play except Tullahoma and I think it really shows off some of the softball talent from the midstate.

No doubt about it, Tullahoma will win this district without any problem. The rest of the district will end with Lawrence co, columbia, shelbyville, coffee county, lincoln county, and franklin county. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  12. MrNoItAll - Seems like I remember Manchester winning a "big game" against the BIG MAN himself a couple of years ago.

Every year is different and it doesn't matter who is returning from what team. What is on paper is worth nothing. You have to play the game between the lines.

You have to ready to play in May. One or two injuries or bad breaks can turn a season. And you never know when seniorist will hit your team.

You know its softball time agina since snow is in the forecast. Good luck to all.

I think that it was the 04 or 05 season great game i was there. CC won on an error by a former Coffee player, bottom line that year Coffee was still playing on the Big mans talent. Coffee has went down hill ever year since...

I went to watch Tullahoma today, looked pretty good, though the game i saw it appeared Coach Cardwell was not playing his varsity. I watched a little of CC game and they seemed to struggle with the bats and felt their feilding was unsure, maybe not the right player in spots or not playing. Maybe he didnt have all his varsity players out there.

They square off Thursday, it will be the game on non faculty coaches and could decide who will be the front runner of the district. Tullahoma will win by 3.

  13. I'll make an assumption that you feel it is not a good thing....just to take a side and start the discussion.

Just to set the record straight, i really don't know how i feel, just wanted to know what other people thought. I for one have always been a fan of Coach Cardwell from Tullahoma. i think he does a good job with what he has, he just does not have a very good feeder program. I have attended several of his games and up until a few years ago i thought he was still a teacher. which is how i got to know him back when he coached at Coffee County. it appears to me that by not having a faculty coach you might not have the class room discpline that you need, which is what they are there for. Just a thought.
