  1. Walker may have peaked too early. Bats look tired. Time off for injuries might have hurt, I don't know. If they win tonight they will be hard to stop.

They respect Coffee and If any of you have been there during district or Regions you know how loud it is at their field.

Who knows what Walker Valley team will show up????

Coffee county is second only to Soddy Daisy when it comes to home cooking. Let's hope the umpires call a good, fair game.

  2.

    Sour grapes?

Not hardly. My daughter started for MJ each of the last two years. My comment is directed toward the current coaching staff, which has to be among the worst in Tennessee HS softball.

  3. What the roster has at the high school level has NOTHING to do with COLLEGE HIRING!

He has proven he can recruit, which will translate to college.

Still stung from the whipping Coach Breedon's teams have given yours are you?dry.png

We beat Riverdale this year and Coach Breeden (not Breedon) embarrassed himself and a senior starter in front of everybody in their last regular season home game. He's the one who was stung, although I'm sure he didn't realize it.

Congratulations Coach. It is well deserved in my opinion.

    This I will agree with.

    see my replies in bold

  4. Can't say this was unexpected since it was Albritton's last season and the cupboard is bare by Riverdale standards. Add to that the trouble Riverdale got into with regard to booster clubs and the fact he'll be able to recruit legally now. It's a good move on his part.

  5. Sam Hoadwonic, a Sophomore at the time, was the Riverdale pitcher in '09. They had to beat Beech twice in the championship round (4-2 in Game 1, 9-1 in Game 2), as Beech had put them in the Losers' Bracket with a 6-0 win earlier in the tournament.

Siegel also made that tournament, and Riverdale knocked them out. Oddly enough, it was Siegel who beat Riverdale in the 4-AAA final, sending the Lady Warriors to Soddy.

During the offseason, Albritton worked hard enough to gain the starter's spot from Hoadwonic, who left the team after the 2010 season.

Predictions? I can't see it being anyone other than Beech and Soddy. Having seen most of these teams, I'd say Coffee and Mt. Juliet are probably their biggest threats.

Was Rachel eligible in '09? She played '08 at Mt Juliet Middle School then transferred to Riverdale for 9th grade. I don't know if the transfer rules apply between middle and high school the same as they do high school to high school.

As for predictions, I agree that Soddy or Beech should probably be the favorites. Of course Soddy and Riverdale where the favorites last year...

Good luck to all of the teams!

  6. There are always exceptions. The point I was trying to make is, excluding tournaments, alot, not all, of your single A schools have very weak district and areas schedules which comes from the low numbers of girls at each school and the talent from that area spread out among so many different school. And when that rare big fish happens to show up in that little pond and jumps it makes an awfully big splash.

    I agree with you.

I just meant to point out what an incredible season Beech is having at the plate.

  7. un-believable

Agree, somebody should have said these things to coach Kirk years ago! Unfortunately, at his age, he ain't changing. If you think he doesn't control every single aspect of the tournament, I have some cheap ocean front property in Soddy that I'll make you a good deal on.

  8. Maybe this helps to explain why there weren’t as many teams there as last year.

Few of the strong middle TN teams play in this tournament anymore for the same reason. Soddy is good enough on their own, they do not need scheduling and umpiring help to win. But they get it anyway. One time is enough for most coaches.

  9. Id say next time you see Riverdale play someone in a tourney watch the calls behind the plate for each team

Are you Rachel's dad? Riverdale won the only tournament they've played in so far this season and have given up 9 runs in 16 games. There can't be much of a difference with numbers like that, unless you want to shut out everybody.

The only problem Riverdale might have this year is Rachel being overused. It looks like they'll play 50+ games this season and she'll pitch pretty much all of them. Like last year, she'll be worn out by state.

  10. No offense OP but CC hasn't made it to state with some very strong teams, what would enable them to make it now? Like somebody else said, SD isn't going anywhere and the big guy will "find" another pitcher after Rachael is gone. Y'all will continue to dominate your district but come up short in region.

  11. Well to add further speculation to this story, I was going to keep quite but just can't let old Mel ride the fence anymore, MJ may have a spot open and not for the one Erica left... It seems old Pedigo finally stepped over the line and it wasn't even a parent, former parent or opposing coaches complaint that got her. It was her own big mouth with a little help from the paper. Is that a ray of sunshine I see comming through my window?

You and your daughter have been gone from the MJ softball program for a year now. Hopefully she's happy and has great success at her new school. MLK Jr. once said, "Never succumb to the temptation of bitterness." Let it go dude, be happy in life and don't revel in others problems.

  12. This rumor has been out there for at least a month and I'm not doubting you fishunt, 'cause we all know you're connected. But where's the official announcement from Coach Woods? At one point Beech didn't have a teaching position open for Coach Powell. Of course if they really want her they will work that out. Beech has tryouts this coming Thursday and Friday so Coach Woods better hurry or he may not be able to hang up the cleats just yet...

Wherever she winds up, best wishes to Coach Powell! She's a very good coach, the girls love her and she would be a true asset to any program!

  13. was not earthquake related, it was a couple big guys hitting the ground after getting knocked out.

Not that anybody asked me... but I believe they would have been fresher had they played 10-12 fewer games, especially Rachael.

  14. It doesn't matter to me which team wins, Soddy or CC. But as a public service, I think the Soddy fans who have never been to CC could use a primer just so they'll know what to expect.

    1. That is a deer stand in left field but you don't need to put on your hunting orange... It is the local radio announcer up there broadcasting the game. He probably has a gun but he hasn't used it during a game. Yet. Don't even try to listen to his broadcast because you will have a better, closer view than he does.

    2. That thing climbing the fence cheering for CC is not a spider monkey but rather a fan. Possibly even human. As far as I know he's harmless but still, you should take the usual precautions as with all wild animals, such as don't feed or antagonize it.

    3. Speaking of antagonizing... do not get pulled over on your way out of town, especially if you win. In Manchester, unless it's Bonnaroo week, nothing is more important than their softball. The county school board (important distinction because there are 3 separate school boards in little ole CC!) elections even hinge on who makes the the softball team.

    4. Just like you often get favorable calls in Soddy, most close calls will go CC's way.

Knowing all of the above in advance will help prepare you. This is by no means a complete list. Those of you who have played at CC feel free to add anything I may have left off.

This concludes your public service announcement.

  15. SHE is in their district currently? This should not be hard to figure it out? Are there any other schools flipping coaches next season? Hey, this could be Coaching Jeopardy !

My first Jeopardy answer is: Since it is a "she" in the district that eliminates Hendersonville and Station Camp for sure I think. If they have been to the dance before, this tid-bit eliminates Portland, Gallatin, Lebanon and Wilson Central, I think (Not sure how long their coaches have been there). That only leaves Mt. Juliet.

Answer: "Who is the Mt. Juliet Coach" ?

Assistant, not hc. If true, I wish her the best! She is an asset to any program she's with, even though those rich rednecks didn't realize it.

  16. Sorry. Elizabethton's Erin Kiser blasted homerun #10 yesterday. That gives her 24 in two years. I doubt anyone else is even close.

The question was who are the best 3rd basemen, not who are the best hitters. I imagine your girl would be a good hitter if she played right field, catcher or pitcher too... correct? The two, hitting and fielding, do not have anything to do with one another. Start a thread about hitters for your girl.

So back to the question, Sara Beth Roberts signed with UTC. In 13 years of watching softball I have never seen a better 3rd baseman than her. I've seen her on many occasions one hand a bunt and throw the lead runner out at 2nd base. Sara Beth regularly makes plays that could be on the espn top 10.

  17. MrNoitAll has dropped the ball and taken the week off. I assume he has taken off in fear of the gov't shutdown. I can understand...the shutdown would cause problems for anyone receiving a gov't check.

I thought he had taken the rest of the season off. Being MrNoitAll, he already knows that Coffee County is going to win the state championship in all classifications because they're just that good. Somebody best call M'boro Parks & Rec though... the fences need to be reinforced for the CC climber. :roflol:
