  1. I believe the game is at 10 o clock. I personally thought they could have gotten the rest of the half in if they hadn't called it off when there wasn't even thunder and the lightning was far away. But I am glad the ref was trying to keep the players safe. Does anyone know if they are starting over, or back at 21 minutes with Farragut up 1-0. But Maryville has hit the cross bar once.

  2. Seth Williams for Bearden and Austin Pugh (spelling?) for Maryville are the best freshmen i have watched this year. Not only is Seth a great defender, he is very smart, and is constantly communicating on the field. Austin can control the game better than any freshman i have seen. His passes are good, and he is a threat off the dribble. I look forward to watching these players in the next few years.

  3. yes, Maryville did win 2-1. They possessed the ball really well and were really fun to watch. The second goal was a "controversial" hand ball. I was sitting on the hill and the player hit it with his stomach, not his hand, then finished it. Maryville is a very good team, very solid in the back, while very calm. The two center mids were very skilled and have great vision. They could swing the ball back and forth very well. The outside mids are good, they make great runs and and can put balls into the box. Forwards are skilled, quick and determined.

  4. I think it will be great to see Brandon on the field again. He is a great player. I don't really understand what the big deal is? If anything we should be happy to have another great player playing against us (or with us if you play for CAK). High school soccer is more than just winning games, its about having bonding and growing, representing your school, having fun, and playing soccer. This should make states even closer now. Good luck Brandon.

BigG, i think you handled this situation great. Does TSSAA not have some rule against this?

  5. CAK's keeper is a senior, Luke Bonewitz. He is an excellent goalie, who had the "unfortunate" position of being behind 2 all state goal keepers of Drew Gorman and Brent Davidson for the past few years. Luke has great technical skill, but just lacked game experience (it is hard enough to play 2 goal keepers in a season, let alone 3 with our schedule). He got a lot of time on JV last year (he played on both squads so he could at least get some game time) but he is diving in head first this season! He has done very well so far, and had some great saves against Maryville and Farragut. He also was unanimously selected as one of our captains this year, which says a lot about his character.

He is also attending West Point next year and is one of the finest young men you will ever meet. He can also rip a phone book in half with his bare hands. No joke. I have seen him do it. It is quite impressive.

yes i agree, he is a great young man.

Um i was very impressed with the goalie from Karns in the Karns/Catholic game. He had some unbelievable saves.

  6. It was a very good game. I was very impressed with the way Farragut came out. They did a great job possessing the ball in the second half and had two very nice finishes. They are a very fast team that does a great job talking and working together, overall a very good team. I thought that CAK didn't really play with the same fire and passion that they have in the past, with the exception of a few players (I know its just a scrimmage but there is no reason not to give your all every time you play?). But CAK has alot of potential and talent. BigG, i was very impressed with the passion, fire and heart that number 4, 2, 15 played with., (NO IM NOT SAYING THAT EVERYONE ELSE PLAYED BAD, THOSE ARE JUST THE PLAYERS WHO STUCK OUT TO ME.) good luck to both teams

  7. This is just my personal opinion on a flat back four. I think that it is to prone to through balls. But in saying that if you have enough solid defenders you can maybe run a "Brazilian" flat four which is when one of the backs can attack forward and get involved in the game. But this is very frustrating for a coach because if two go up at the same time and loose the ball, they have a counter attack (3 on 2 etc..). That is why I personally like the sweeper/stopper defense. Also you must have two experienced center defenders that know how to cover and communicate. I think in the end you just have to experiment with what players you have. Just my opinion from observing, playing, and coaching.
