  1. Maybe, but you could have made a case for the same situation in the Chattanooga district/region especially before Chattanooga Christian moved up with the multiplier. It's up to Lake or any of the other teams mentioned to adapt to their specific situation even though in this case it means a tough district.

No...It is not the same situation...Manassas, Humboldt, and Lake County were all ranked in the top 10. If you think that ranking doesn't make a difference, well just look at the championship game. Humboldt's only loss was to Manassas. Lake County's only losses were to #1 Humboldt and #2 Manassas. Manassas won th gold ball. There toughest game by far was the Humboldt game. I agree with the previous post that said that Temple was the 4th best team in the tournament. The championship game proved that. I just feel like #1 and #2 should be on separate sides of the bracket so that the 2nd best team will walk away with a silver ball. If Temple think they disserve a silver ball then they should've beaten the #2 team to prove it....

  2. that was posted in bitterness and hatefullness... im sorry mannasses put you out FIRST roun. so that their #1 and temple is #2 in the state! and humboldt hmmmm no where to be found sorry buddy

Man Please! Do you honestly think Temple is the second best team in the state? Manassas beat Humboldt with a last second 3 pointer. Manassas ran Temple out of the gym. As I stated on another post, this is why the #1 and #2 team should not be on the same side of the bracket. The championship was played on Wednesday morning....

  3. Come on MTiger. Step back for just a second and let this sink in. I am not a fan of either team. I come to this event every year because I love to watch basketball. I sit close to the floor and I observe everything.

Now, as a neutral observer I will tell you this. Reggie is a good player, no doubt about that. Here lies the problem. A player with class and integrity would never go to the opposing teams bench during free throws and talk trash to the other team. A player with class and integrity would get in line with his team and gracefully shake the other teams and coaches hands. A player with class and integrity would never end up in the middle of the opposing teams fans in the concourse after the gamer because he would be wise enough to know that there would be a distinct possibility that something wrong could happen.

Someone needs to make this young man understand that his actions are going to lead him down a road where he doesnt want to go. If you are a true fan and maybe even a friend you will help him with this. I wish nothing but the best for Reggie as I like to see kids succeed and I would hate to see his actions spoil the GOD given talent that he has.

Ever heard of PACMAN Jones? Ton of talent.....wasted!!!

I hope this does not happen to Reggie

I am a Humboldt fan and I was at the game. I can honestly say that I the Manassas players showed a lot of class. They went straight over to the Humboldt bench to shake hands right after the game ended. As for the confrontation, there is no proof that any of it happened they way some people are telling it. There are a lot of people commenting on this so called confrontation that weren't even at the game. Let's just congratulate the kids from Manassas on their victory and wish them well through the rest of the tournament. Let's not assume things and make more out of the situation than what actually happened.

  4. I have two general, possibly even unrelated comments. I wish these tourneys were stuctured a little differently to allow a team to come up through a loser's bracket and win this whole thing. A one game loss and go home is a tough way to determine a state champion. I realize someone has to be a loser, but I would love to see more of this caliber basketball. Also, I wish our public broadcasting stations or some independent station would carry these games. Georgia does a tremendous job of covering High scholl sports at tournament time. I wish our state had someone with the same commitment and interest. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

You're right. I live in Atlanta. They do a wonderful job with all of their prep sports. They even broadcast them in prime time..

  5. This is ridicuous. . .no team or coach is going to the state tournament with the goal of winning 1 or 2 games. They all are aiming for the gold ball-anything else will be a disappointment. It doesn't matter who you get first or second or third, if you don't win them all then you don't call yourself state champion. What a bunch of whiners. Sounds like you don't think you can win your first game. But if there was a conspiracy against west TN teams to keep them out of the finals, it would be because they don't support their teams like east and middle. In an all west final, the gym wouldn't be full.

LOL! Do you even go to the tournament? You have to be kidding me....You must be talking about another sport.....

  6. Just like officiating.... The guy is coming up with excuses so when he gets beat in the first round... Atleast right now it's not the officials fault but Hey the day just started!

Excuses...I am saying it is wrong that BOTH top teams have to play each other in the first round. Who am I making excuses for? I just feel like the best teams should have the opportunity to play more than one game whether that team is Humboldt or Manassas. The winner from Humboldt and Manassas will win the gold ball. Beleive that. But the looser won't even have a chance for a silver ball while a weaker east team that either Humboldt ot Manassas can blow out any day of the week will get that chance...

  7. i think TSSAA should copy the way the NBA playoffs are set up. seed the four teams in the West and let them play out and do the same in the east...

    #1 West vs.

    #4 West

    #2 West vs.

    #3 West

let that play out and do the same in the east. that way the team that wins the western bracket plays the team that wins the eastern bracket in the championship. i know people are gonna say that the west will be a tougher bracket to get through but not necessarily the case every year. to me this seems the most reasonable way to decide on one true champion.

Ican agree with that. I just don't think a five year old pulling a ticket should determine the brackets.

  8. who cares if they are kids the best team will win period. everybody's goal i to make it to murfreesboro and see what happens when you get there win and advance thats the rule

The kids care....Like I said.....The best teams should have the opportunity to play the most games. 1 and 2 should never meet in the first round...

  9. Thats all that matters. That WEEKEND.

If your the best team you can overcome ALL odds.

The season matters. Either Humboldt or Manassas will play only one game in the Boro while a weaker team from the East will get to play at least 2. I watched Temple play White House back in December and GBA in Feb. There is no way that team should be still playing with either Humboldt or Manassas eliminated. These are kids. A lot of them are playing their last games. I think they would much rather play 2-3 more games instead of one more. For all of you that keep saying it doesn't matter, let's see if Memphis plays UCONN in their first tournament game. It's not going to happen....

  10. Same thing happened this week in the girls Class A where the top 3 teams (Clarkrange,Forrest and Oliver Springs) were on one side of the bracket while a very weak team (out of the west) Madison Aca was on the other side and got a silver ball in a lopsided, very boring game. The two best teams in Class A (Clarkrange and Forrest) played a great game on Wednesday and in that game the best team in Class A rose to the top and won and went on to win the state championship. The blind draw did not affect the outcome as to who the best team in the state was but did affect who came in second and to me that's what most of you people from west tn are concerned about. Make no mistake about it the best TEAM will win the championship and who cares who comes in second! I'm not so sure either of these two teams will beat Grace Baptist or Temple but they will both have a chance to play for a state championship and that's all you can ask for. So quit whining and let's play ball!

That is exactly it...Why should the 4th or 5th best team in the state walk away with a silver ball. Who cares? We care. The 2 best teams should walk away with something. Do you ever watch the college ncaa tournaments? It seems to work out pretty well. Maybe you don't care because you are a fan of one of the weaker teams.

  11. Why is everyone crying over Humboldt and Manassas only ONE team is going to win Class A State Championship so why does it matter when they play each other, oh i know because WEST TN. cant talk about their Memphis final, get over it, and lets start the tourney, ENOUGH ALREADY.

It matters because it is the difference between playing one game in the state tournament and 3. If you were a senior and played on a very good team all year would you want to go home and watch a weaker squad play 2 more games? Especially if the team you lost against is the best team in the state?

  12. Nobody was "put" anywhere.

Somebody has to play the first game of the day.....

Trust me there is no conspriacy on who Humboldt drew nor the time...

Like BigDaddy said, Humboldt fans have been crowing on here a long time about how they can beat Manassas, now you won't have to win two games and wait til Saturday to do it.

I see you must be from East or Middle Tennessee. By no means should the top 2 teams in the state play each other on a Wednesday morning. Why would you need a blind draw that small amount of teams anyway? In any tournament the lower seed always play the top seed.

  13. Lets just play out some scenarios real quick just hypothetical situations, nobody get jumpy. Lets say Manassass beats Humboldt on a last second shot by buckner in double ot 85-84. They play Grace Baptist and beat them by 5 in a well fought game, Temple runs through the bottom of the bracket without breaking a sweat, and then (still hypothetical) Manassas beat Temple by 30 in the Finals. How can you say that the order does not matter? That would be an example of how the top of the bracket is stopped and one of the other two (Grace Or Humboldt) should have been on the other side. Like I said already let UCONN and Carolina play in the first round of the tourney, its still the same right, no order matters. Just observing....

That is the best comment I have heard so far...

  14. Only reason I'm upset is because I wasn't going to be able to make it until Thursday meaning I'll miss the Humboldt vs Manassas game unless I pull something off...

I would have rather played Manassas in the championship but I do like the fact that we will be playing the last three teams to put us out of the tournament (Manassas in 08', substate...Temple in 07', state semi-final...Grace Baptist in 06', state semi-final)...Humboldt will have all the motivation they will ever need... /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

I have never heard of the top 2 teams in the state having to meet in the first game. Wow! It is what it is though. Hopefully the Vikings will come out on top, but I just don't believe the whole blind draw thing...

  15. You're right about the coaching although our assistant has been more involved this year and has done a great job especially with the offense providing us with a lot more structure in the half court set...We don't look lost when teams slow the game down anymore...At first, we might...Then, we call a timeout, talk about it, then adjust...That never happened in previous years...Boykin may be the head coach, but he aint running the show during the game...All in-game adjustments are made by our assistant and I believe a lot of our success this year can be attributed to that..

I believe this year's Humboldt team to be more talented than last year's UC team (although it really doesn't matter)...Not saying they are better, but simply more talented...MJ Brown was a great high school player but so is Crayton and I believe Crayton has a much better supporting cast than Brown had..

Of course, no disrespect is meant here...I know firsthand what UC is capable of...Humboldt is trying to follow UC's footsteps this year and bring home another gold ball to 14A, with an undefeated record to boot.. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Coach Boykin was a very good coach long before that assistant arrived. He has had consistant winning seasons for years. This will be his 3rd time in the Boro in 4 years. The assistant may be a good coach, but by no means is he running the show. This is Coach Boykins team and he is the reason why they are where they are.

  16. That is just about right i do agree! Milan and Humboldt is to much a like! But i think like u think GC has the best of them hadn't been to WV in a while! Been a couple of years but what i can recall it is a nice gym! If they going to kept playing the GCCT it needs to be hosted by GCHS everyear! I know this ruffler some HBT and most all GC fans! But it is just my of voicing my opinion! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    I'm a Humboldt fan...I like that idea...GC has a very nice gym...

  17. Have you seen Cully play???

Yes I have...I saw them play Montgomery Bell Academy back in January. I am originally from Humboldt but I live in Nashville. I heard a lot about this team and was curious to see them play. Don't get me wrong...I think the Beach boys are good, but they look awful slow to me compared to some of the other big men that they are going to have to compete against come tournament time...
