Although Middleton loss to Manassas, this is what I noticed when Middleton played. This is one of his weaker areas. Good coaching will notice this. That maybe the reason he's attempting to play point. Trying to get the ball in his hands at a different time, it seemed very easy to deny him the ball.

The rest of the defense has to really be capable of performing. I think that's Humboldts advantage, we'll bring 5 players on the court at all times. No one is there for one specific job. They are all scorers, they are all great defensive players and they all have the power to snatch rebounds and create turn overs. They'll keep a hand in the face of the ouside shooters and they are all very quick.

If Humboldt comes to play - it will not be an easy task.

And to all that are making decisions based on last years team. I sure hope Manassas coach will follow you all. It'll be the best thing that could happen for Humboldt.

Humboldt must didn??™t come to play then!!! Lol!!!

Cant believe ya'll are still trying to build AA Manassas up playing against Class A teams. Ya'll should win but you won't. Even with all the recruiting goin on and havin 800+ kids in the school ya'll still won't win it! Humboldt vs Grace Baptist in the finals. Either of these two teams will beat Manassas next week so just make sure you get on here Legend an take your medicine like man when you're AA Manassas gets beat down!

LOL, Why did you start a stupid post like this? So, what if they didn't have a Mr. Basketball finalist, so didn't a lot of teams, it's about "TEAM BALL". If, the schedule was soft, then next week we will find out!!!! You must be nervous because all you have done in the last (2) two week is post something about Humboldt that is negative. I don't know or care what your problem is but it's just a game. If, manassas wins then everyone will congratulate them & you so stop posting negative stuff. Remember, these are (16) sixteen & (17) seventeen year old, young adults that we are talking about, and with that I'm going to leave this subject alone. "GOOD LUCK" to Manassas and the rest of the teams left in the tournament.

I was right the schedule was too soft! Lol!!!

Legend you're not fooling anyone, wanting people on here to think you are connected and actually have reliable sources...

You're just looking to post something else negative about Humboldt...That's all that comes out of your mouth despite the fact that we've given respect to Manassas...We make an argument about why we think our team is better and you come with insults and take shots at the Vikings...You and MTiger both are a JOKE!! I wonder if you both are the same person...Hmmmmm

Only thing you are connected to is Buckner's jockstrap...How's that for an insult??

Of course, if Manassas loses again, you might have to be connected to an oxygen unit because I'm not sure that you'll be able to survive not being able to latch on to Buckner anymore...

As to your supposed claim...Summertown plays in Middle TN (by far the weakest area of the state for 1A basketball) and they have a finalist...That alone pretty much shoots your "theory" down...

I'm sure Crayton isn't worried about it...I'd be willing to bet that he'd much rather have that gold ball...

If you let the HB players tell it they had won the gold ball in December! Lol!!!

That's why I didn't direct that post towards all Manassas fans...Mostly Legend and also to MTiger...I understand they do it because they see Humboldt as a threat (even though they won't admit it)..

I try not to be stereotypical...It's not all Memphians or Manassas fans...If you're ignorant, you're ignorant...We have some "not so bright" fans ourselves...Every team does...Just be aware, when you get on here talking crazy, you're fair game...

This mean this post is fair game! Lol!!

I have given Buckner all the respect in the world...You cannot find one post where I have insulted his play or even insulted Manassas as a team...Yes, I have stated certain weaknesses that they have...Humboldt has weaknesses as well...

As a matter of fact, I've even DEFENDED Buckner back when all those Scotts Hill fans were dogging him, saying how lazy he was and all that...I was never one of those people...

However, you and Legend continually fail to give respect to Humboldt and both of you (especially Legend) take shots at the Vikings whenever you get a chance...A perfect example of that would be the creation of this thread...You take shots at my team, I'm not going to stoop to your level and insult KIDS...I'll just insult you, GOOFY..

You don't want to play the Vikings in that first game...Mark my words, Humboldt is going to make an example out of whoever they play in that first game...Talking to some of the players earlier, I just have that feeling...

    Talk to the players now!!!

HB got made an example of in the 1st game!! Lol!!

Well we will just have to see how hungry they are and i know that they wants Manassas after that spanking that that took on last year. Now thats what really started it. Those Boldt fans still talking about last year.

Your words are falling on deaf ears at this point...

You're just making this crap up as you go aren't you??

You realized I never insulted your team so now it's the Humboldt fans who "started it"...You're a joke, man...

Anytime you're proven wrong, you resort to last year's game or insults...Very funny...I really don't see how anyone could take you or Legend seriously at this point...I bet the world looks pretty crazy through those blue and gold glasses, especially with whatever you are smokin'

Humboldt hasn't been talking in the papers like they already won the gold ball...They stated their goals and also said that not achieving them is not an option...Sounds like their head is exactly where it needs to be...

You just want Humboldt fans to give in and say Manassas should win it all and we don't deserve to be here...Sorry, it aint happening..

Did I call out anyone in particular?? Did I attack anyone's team?? Humboldt has earned the right to be confident and they're playing with a swagger right now...Call it cocky, call it what you want...It's working in their favor right now..

That was a response to MTiger who said "I hope we get to play HB first round so that we can send them home early" or something like that...

Manassas isn't as good as last year and Humboldt is MUCH better...

He should retire if HBT wins it all but he won't. He's been head coach for 10 years and won 200 plus games! When coaching is in your blood and u love the game it is hard to walk away! I just think he will return maybe be wrong but don't think so! Good Luck Coach B!!!

I am a fellow with a pretty level head but all you people in Memphis. You talk about HBT playing cupcakes we all know Manassas has a good team. I'll be the first to tell u that i know your non district schedule is tougher than HBT no doubt! But folks the regular season is over so get over it! Manassas district schedule is a joke no stronger than HBt not as strong! Manassas plays Adamsville HBT plays UC, HBT whether u want to admit it or not has a much tougher road to the Boro! I suppopse u think that UC is also a power puff! HBT will have to get by UC and LC just to get to be at home for the substate! If u win it all i will be the first to say great job!! Just remember this last year Mannassas were schooled by team with a player no more than 6'2! How soon we forget HBT fans better also realize Uc is a very well coached and dangerous team! MY friend meaning for disrespect but Adamsville is a cc don't say anything else about cupcakes! If HBT gets beat they just get beat by defending State Champs! Remember Manassas is not in the Championship yet! Nor is HBT it's win or go home good luck to all! You folks better hope Bufford don't show up he might be awful mad!!

IF, and that's IF, Humboldt wins the state championship, Coach Boykins should win coach of the year and retire on a good note. That's IF they win the state championship.

So much for that then!!! Lol!!!

If Humboldt continues to roll and captures the gold then no doubt it should be Thomas Boykin. Even if Humboldt were to slip in the championship game I'd still say Coach Boykin because of the undefeated season in the best 1a district in the state.

But they didn??™t continue to roll! They ran into a tiger! Lol!!!

Why shouldn't he win it? He have all of the players back that he had last year. He suppose to be were he is at. I see you keep saying if are you not sure? Well I;m going to tell you for sure Manassas and Coach Harris will win the Single A championship this year.

Seems the Vikings not only got better, but deeper despite losing 4 starters and their 6-man...That's bad news for the rest of 1A as it has been all year...

You must have been reading my mind because I were thinking the same thing.

I saw Manassas play this year and yes I am a temple fan, but if Temple played Manassas today. Temple would win.

Humboldt team hasn't lost anything...they're getting better with every practice & every game.So I'd say Humboldt's number 1..but Manassas is a close second.

yeah this thread isnt about memphis area teams its about the best class a TEAM which I think is humbolt or cully.

manasas and temple are 1 man shows, dont get me wrong though they are amazing as well

That was a response to MTiger who said "I hope we get to play HB first round so that we can send them home early" or something like that...

    QUOTE (grizman90 @ Mar 11 2009 - 01:16 PM)

Reginald Buckner is the most overated player in the state of Tennessee! I saw him drop 5 against Scott's Hill, All they did was face guard him with a 5'11" guard all over the court and played helpside D on him. This is a very vulnerable team. I say Humboldt wrecks Manassas somewhere down the road.

    QUOTE (midtensportsfan @ Mar 12 2009 - 11:58 AM)

Humboldt vs Grace Baptist in the finals. Either of these two teams will beat Manassas next week so just make sure you get on here Legend an take your medicine like man when you're AA Manassas gets beat down!

  2. Funny to me, I was there for the entire first round of tournaments...I thought that he was the second WORSE coach I saw the entire day....right behind Humbolts... He had no strategy to break a press, and without readjusting he continued the same strategy....the only props I give him is chasing his palyers down after the game and getting them to shake HB hands.... You take his talent in any of the other 1A coaches and they win that game by 20....

Also reggie was in the top seven players from last years team...So claiming they lost there top even players is a joke...

Maybe this will shut up your mouth and other about what he brought back from last year's team.

  3. He won a gold ball and I don't fault him for that, but giving him the coach of the year because they won the gold ball with the best talent should not be done. Its a different coaching job than all the rest, but when you get to Xs and Os and watching the teams paly any coach or non-biased fan would tell you, this team lacked fundamentals and team strategy that others in the tournament displayed. They were very fortunate to have a shaq like player in the middle... I can think of much better coaches in 1A, but not many who face the same challenges as does the Man coach

I like the part that i underlined. You must be joking man? I f this team lack all of what you are saying then what do that say about all of the other teams that they beat to win that gold ball. Think before you speak the next time.

  4. If we learn how to play as a team instead on indivs. we would be more successful. The reason why Mitchell has 3 ruuner up balls instead of a gold balls is because we had better players but lost to better teams. Coaching must improve if Memphis.

I think all of HB fan have gotten off until next year. There are a few strange thens that are going on at HB. The coach lies and they don't know how to get pass Manassas in the playoff. That maybe the reason that coach Boykin lie.

  9. I hope they do, take it to court maybe the truth would come out then, i was 20 ft away from the incident when it happened, and i dont believe BUCKNER would want to go to court over it ,ENOUGH SAID.

What is with you guy on coacht? Can you gut accept that your team didn't get their gold ball. This is really toward HB leave it alone and just try next year. You might just get one Manassas will be gone. You know the team that have put you'll out for the past two season. GO TIGERS

  10. You had seven players on your team better than Buckner last year? I don't think so! He was the BEST you had so if you lost other players as everyone does they were not anywhere close to him in talent.

You are correct if you have a 6'8" player he is your best player. If you take away seven players from that one player you still have a average team and thats what he had. Harris put bench players around Buckner and made a championship team.

  11. Ok lets talk common sense. Being a COY means several different things. When you have a team that has the most "talent" in the state does not necessarily mean you are the best coach. It is what you do with the talent that you have. By everyones standard on these posts, Wes Long clearly wasn't one of the most talented players in the state, but he played hard and earned the nomination of player of the year by playing hard. If you have a less talented team that overachieves and does something special, that shows you have a great coach. When picking coach of the year, I don't base it on who won the state title alone. I base it more on what you did with what you had. To me, for Summertown to come out of the single toughest region in 1A says something about Les Trotter. You can not argue any different as far as the region goes. There was not another region in which they had 3 of the top 12 teams in the state, let alone 2 of the top 6 (Cully and Cwood were ranked 3 and 6). Give credit where credit is do!!! Coaching is about game planning, strategy, and getting the most out of your players. It is not about putting your talent on the floor and saying go do your thing.

Now the region that you just named and the rankings that those school had came from playing cupcake teams. Once again Harris had to rebuilt the whole team beside Buckner. Now you name someone on that team that got significance playing time on last years team?

  12. You guys are right. Buckner is the greatest player to every come out of the great state of Tennessee. He does nothing wrong during or after the game. The ref's pick on him (I dont guess anybody saw him pick up his 5th foul that wasn't called halfway thru the 4th quarter in the game against HB where he pretty much gave a HB player a bear hug while he was trying to shoot a lay-up ). The other players are out to get him because they are jealous of his God given talent. He will only play one year at Ole' Miss because he will go first round of the 2010 NBA draft. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

He is a good player and great shot blocker but needs mature. Once you get a tech for elbowing someone you have to know that you can't do anything that MIGHT would get you another tech. Bottom line. He could have very easily been arrested for assult on Wed. and not even been able to play in the final 2 games. Hopefully he will learn this before someone in the SEC decides to really show him how to get physical...

I really don't think that you can read. From the article it says that the girl push #23 in the back and another player was seen throwing a fist at her. It did not say anything about Reginald doing anything. Read first then comment

  13. Also reggie was in the top seven players from last years team...So claiming they lost there top even players is a joke...

Now common sense should come in after a while for you I'm not including Reggie and one more thing Coach Harris don't believe in running up a score on a team just not his style. Oh one more thing who took home the gold ball from all of the coaches in 1A?

  14. I watched the techs 5x on tape earlier........also had someone else watch them. Our conclusion was we have seen WAY worse this year at MANY games. Also concluded most of the fouls called in all the games played on Sat. would not even be bothered with at the college level . Not all kids mature at the same time.

Gosh this women is smart. Thanks adsmom

  15. It is definately funny that not one person listed Les Trotter from Summertown for COY. SHS was not even supposed to win their district and they tied for 1st. They also beat the team they tied with and put up 100 on them. Then, they weren't suppose to make it out of regionals with Culleoka and Collinwood, but they made it to the Final Four. Sounds like the best coaching job in the state. Can't really say that much about the Manassas coach, even though he is deserving for winning the state title, but they were expected to be there anyway. Trotter gets my nod.

How are you suppose to be in the championship game after you lose your top seven player from last years team? This was a rebuilding year for him.

  16. FYI---I can compare him to Harrison Barnes. Barnes is a junior at Ames High and is ranked as #1 recruit NATIONALLY in his class. He had ten times the maturity level as does Buckner. I am sorry if that offends you, just stating the obvious. i ALSO SAID THAT i WASN'T BASHING ON HIM. I watched tape of him all day today and as an official I can tell you that many many times I would have either tossed him or T'd him up for his actions. I can say this because I am an official. I never o9nce said he was a bad kid--he may be a great person off the court, just seems to me that he lacks some maturity, thats all.

WELL YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT THE GAME AND YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN OTHER KIDS DOING THE SAME OR MORE. So don't just go by what you see on TV.

  17. Ok, for your information, I was born in 1968. I have seen many great teams . You may remember one of them being the Palmer, Iowa Panthers form 1986-87. School only had 15 boys in the entire high school and went on to win well over 100 games in a row and were featured on the Today show during the Iowa state tourney in 1987. I watched Cedrick Wallace play at Lawrence County High School for 4 years. I have seen many great players and many great teams over my lifetime. I moved to Summertown in 1990 as I stated in my earlier post and stayed there for 18 years. I wasn't in Tennessee during the 70's and 80's, therefore I wouldn't know of those teams except for the Wayne County teams that I was told about or the Perry County teams with the Rhodes boys. I didn't have the privelage of seeing them, so I can not comment on them. Please feel free to list the team you feel is the all-time best in Class A.

Ok may now this will close your mouth. First of all nobody said that Manassas was the best every in 1A.

This was the best and go and check.

    Bolton (6) 1975,1978,1979,1981,1985 1989 they move up to 2A

  18. MAKE SURE THAT YOU READ THIS

Manassas boys basketball coach Gerald Harris was thanking anyone he felt had anything to do with his Tigers earning their first boys basketball state title Saturday afternoon with a 60-34 victory over Chattanooga Temple at Middle Tennessee's Murphy Center.

He thanked God. He thanked his assistant coach, Jerry Anthony, as well as his own former head coach at Manassas, Charles Thompson.

He gives credit to his asst.

Coach Gerald Harris is the Coach of the Year in 1A.
