  1. I saw where they posted this on TSSAA website today. They are not going to do interviews until after the break. Cannot say that I blame them. Most coaches use this time to spend with their families, in which they should. Merry Christmas and a happy new years to all the Hixson faithful.

Hixson should be better with reclassification.

  2. So i am hearing there is no talent base in gibson county territory, and the little talent that is there wont play football because they have always sucked? Also the winningst coach got out quick because he couldnt win there? If he is the winningest coach, why did he leave so quick? Obviously, this is not a quick turnaround type of program. And from what im hearing has good facilities and community support, why leave so quick?

The name 'Gibson County' is deceptive. GCHS isn't a county school district. There are six high schools in the county and four are independent from GC special school district. All of the city schools have the population base including the section Eight housing. GCHS is a rural vocational high school on the North end of the county. They excel in girl's basketball but no boys sports have succeeded in decades. They play against city programs like Milan, Martin, Dyersburg, Covington and simply do not have the talent level or depth to sustain four quarters of football. There are other programs around the state like GC. What GCPioneer understands that you probably don't is that up until three years ago, GCHS and South Gibson HS were one in the same. They built the new school about the same time that the T$$AA reclassified. GCHS was placed into 3A based on the combined numbers leaving them at a huge disadvantage. No one is saying they can't compete but as long as they remain in the classification they are in there is no way they can be competitive. After the 2012 season they may drop down in classification depending on what the T$$AA does this summer.

  3. Let me ask you a question. What kind of support does the football program get from a.) the administration and b.) the community? Are the facilities up to par with the rest of the region?

Most of the men who have coached at GC have been successful at other places. Coach Tucker is the winningest public school football coach in Tennessee, 3rd best overall. HE COULD NOT WIN AT GC and got out quick. The biggest lie that young coaches tell themselves: "I'm capable of doing what no one else has done by outworking and out coaching my opponents." That is a little conceited because the men you will be coaching against are some of the best in the state and they are five deep with better athletes than you have in your program. you may think that's loser talk but those are the facts. I'm sure a good coach can make improvements to a place like GC. Look at Dresden and see just how far a program can progress in five years. But your presumption is not accurate. I would suggest that until you find talent equal to South, Milan, Westview, Dyersburg, Covington, Ripley, you can't compete year in and year out.

  4. It will take a young coach mid to late 20s that the kids fear but like at the same time to make it a program. You have to respect the coach to play as hard as you can for him. Gibson co does have talent but coaching and want is usually terrible.

I am hearing that Coach Winston will not be the next head football coach at Gibson County? I believe this is a huge mistake. He has over 30 years experience including working on two state champion staffs. He worked at Marion C in their 3 state championship runs in the mid 90's, Franklin High School, FC, Coffee Co and as head coach at 2 or 3 schools. Someone needs to look at their schedule and tell me how a younger coach will deal with playing 9 teams who went to the playoffs including four teams in the semis and two teams going to state? Bob Winston should get the job if he wants it.

  5. Look at all the stupid things this woman (superintendent) has proposed since leaving WC to take over at FC:

    1. She passed a rule that family members can't work together in the same school.

    2. She passed a rule that family members could not coach together.

    3. She attempted to limit practice to under two hours per day.

    4. She took away 4th block athletics.

    5. She abolished the position of Athletic Director and fired the State Hall of Fame AD, Morris Rogers.

    6. She forced out several quality coaches who refused to coach under her leadership.

    7. She passed a rule that coaches can only coach one sport.

    8. She attempted to pass a rule that coaches can't coach family members.

    9. She passed a rule that athletic teams can't leave school before 3:00 PM without permission from the director's office and the school board.

    10. She cut coaching supplements.

Why would any coach want to move into FC to work as a coach? Thank God she is not in Williamson County any more.

  6. Here is the link to the article in the Jackson Sun Newspaper.

I'll let the article speak for itself without any comments since it is obvious that coachT has a legal concern and there is a very popular and successful coach in question. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Cary Mac and I hope he finds the right place for him and his family this fall. He is an excellent coach and there are some openings across the state where he can find work. Good luck coach.

Now, let's leave the coach out of the thread and simply look at the potential new candidates for the position.

  7. It probally doesn,t matter who the next coach will be.Because Mr. or Mrs. Political will never allow a coach to have full control of the team. It's sad that a wonderful community as Macon Co.Won't allow a coach to start or decipline players due to their actions. So it really doesn,t matter who the next guy will be unless he just loves to be pushed around. SAD :roflol:

No respectable coach will take this job unless he is given full control of his program. However, there are a handful of excellent head coaches out of work in middle TN and someone will take a chance on Macon County if the administration is smart enough to reach out and bring in someone with experience!
