  1. This is a Thursday night tv game. I cant wait to see this one!

    Maryville 38 Bearden 35

I think the problem for Maryville will be team speed. The only guy who they have faced who is close to the speed of Young is Hambrick and they had a hard time with him. I think it will be a close game because Maryville will hit some big plays in the passing game.

because of home field advantage I like Bearden 27-20........

here is some video of Young's 1st 5 games...that video posted is old...he is much faster and stronger..

  2. Ok...I guess, I need to go and smack my best-friend whom I have for 20 yrs, that is Devrin's step-father for lying to me. While, I am at it, I will smack Devrin upside the head too.

What makes you an authority on this subject?

I dont know where these guys get that he doesnt have a Stanford offer. You and I know the family better than anyone and no one has said he doesnt have a Stanford offer. Looks like WKU is going to offer him. They called this morning and said they are very interested and want him to come to a game next week against Indiana....he is talking to several schools...and he will get more offers...

he told the WKU coach that Rhea County "contained " him somewhat and he told his stats.....the coach got a chuckle out of that............

he has rushed the ball only 35 times and has 764 yards and 13tds.......he has touched the ball only 44 times and has 1116 APY yards and 18 tds.......

  3. Payback week for the Indians. Last season the Smokey Bears put one on the Tribe in Kingsport. But this is a different Dobyns-Bennett team with speed, speed and more speed in the skill positions. And, DB is playing very good in trenches with much improved line play.

Did I see the scoreboard right? Jeff County beat Sevier County? Surely CoachT got that wrong.

This is a matchup of the 2 best teams from the 5A Big East Conference, and the BEAST OF THE EAST is back!

    Roll Tribe Roll

You would have to think that DB on paper would easily be the favorite...even though SC was surprised by JC...they have some playmakers at the skill positions.....I am not sure there defense is good enough to keep them in this game however......Sensabaugh and Steele IMO are too much for SC...

  4. Young's first half against the Govs was as impressive of a performance by one player as I ever remember seeing. And I've watched quite a bit of high school football. As someone else said, it WILL be interesting to see how his season progresses as the Bulldogs begin to play teams with better "d's" ... and teams that will be wise enough not to kick the ball to him.

I think the thing that people tend to overlook with Devrin is the fact that although the numbers are staggerring at this stage of the season...he has been doing it against everybody he has played over the last two season....he has been 1st team all state the last two seasons....was runnerup in the state 6A100M finals as a JR. has run a 10.6 100M

he has been making plays since he stepped on the varsity scene against everybody....he is just a dynamic play maker....

  5. Thanks for the explanation otherwise we might have lost some sleep over this tonight.

I gotta go with the boys in green. They pulled it together last night. Still room for improvement and that begins at 2 PM on Monday.

    I say Eagles by 7.

Rhea County had a hard time containing Devrin last year as he rushed for 150+ . He is faster and stronger as a sr. I look for another HUGE night in limited snaps.....Bearden puts up 30+ and wins big IMO.....

I just dont see Rhea County begin able to contain Young....

wish both teams an injury free game.....

he has touched the ball 31 times and hs 910 APY and 16 tds.....and he has played the equivalent of 1 1/2 games...he has 564 yards on 22 carries and 11 tds on the ground...that kinda production is too much imo for Rhea County to handle....

  6. I think you have to throw in Aaron and Caleb Blance from Webb to be on par with Young and Purdy. Aaron has had 6 carries for 187 yards and 4 td's in only 2 games (plus a very nice 70 yard play in the jamborree against farragut (he is just a freshman). Caleb ran for 1250 yrds last year as a freshman (against teams like Ensworth, Catholic, Baylor, McCallie, A-E, Father Ryan, BGA, etc) and has 160 this year but has only played 4 qrts of play.

An interesting note but i do believe that Aaron, Caleb, Devrin young, and Tiano Perez of Farragut, were on a relay team together in middle school the won the 4X100 national championship, possibly breaking a record.

Bart Satterfield Fulton was also on that relay team.......they all ran AAU Knoxville Track Club....

  7. Im gonna go ahead and throw Weston Hazelhurst from Clinton in on this one. He is one heck of a back and will lead Clinton to their best season since 92. Friday against Karns was his lowest yard total this season with 165 yards and 3 touchdowns. I'll take those numbers any night

Its Young....heres why.... Stanford offer as a JR

    hearing from

    UGA

    AUB

    Alabama

    Colorado

    GT

    Northwestern

    LSU

    UVA

    Duke

    Oregon

    Texas A&M

    Vanderbilt

    Tennessee

and that was just last week......been invited to games at AUB, ALA, GT, VANDY, Tennessee

some of the other backs mentioned are very good backs.....but Young is the best IMO

NO other back in E.TN JR or SR is getting the kind of attention this kid is getting.....its not a matter if he is signing D-1 , but with who??????

  8. Sorry, friend, we don't gamble in Rhea County on football games, just chicken fights. And if this is an example of the type of wagers you make, I can see why you've been in trouble gambling.

To even suggest 33 won't be on the field is ridiculous hype and you know it. I hope he is cause I'd like to see him play. I hear the films showed a pretty talented kicker that caught the teams interest, too, so it should be a good entertaining night of football.

Rhea County will show up and i hope they play hard. Make us proud, Green!

there are several bearden kids with flu like symptons all key players

    Devrin Young

    Dillon Wilker

    Kyle Riemer

    Cisco Carter...

if these kids dont play...RC has a chance...if they play , its a blow out......

    Carlos,

I knew that Dervin is bad sick, talked to Sherman and Danyel a few times on facebook and the phone. I told them, imo it would be best if he sat this one out. I would hate to see him go out less than 100% and risk an injury. I figured Wilker would still be out because of his knee. I also think that would be best too. Ireally like our D'end play last week and feel like they should have it under control. Now if Kyle and Cisco are sick? That scares the poo out of me. We are as weak as rain water in the back up QB area, andd need that foot of Cisco's bad.

If all 4 of these guys are out. I think we will see alot of Peyton Landers grinding it out the hard way.

Are you going to be at the game or are you in LA?

    Line goes down..Bearden by 9..

I'm in LA...I just talked to Danyel and she said Devrin called her while at school..talking about his temp was spiking.........the other kids should be good to go....Carson Newman is going to be at the game looking at Dillon....Peyton is going to have to do his thing tonight.....

  10. Well, I guess it's time to talk about this week's game. Lots of questions to be answered ... is Bearden one of the upper-echelon teams in the region? Off to a 2-0 start, but not against the strongest competition. Can William Blount be competitive at all in the region? Loss to a pretty decent Sevier County team ... one point "miracle" win over Karns.

Blount's offense is showing marked improvement. Coach Gregory has installed a fun system to watch. Lots of speed ... o line is playing strong ... qb Zach Witt is a great fit for the offense, great runner, solid passer. Matt Hassenstaub is special ... a threat anytime he touches the ball. Josh Burton is a solid, fast, big pass catching fullback. Still battling some turn-over problems. Defensively, if we can't figure out somehow to stop the pass, it's going to be a long, long season. Easy to point toward the secondary, but we also gave Karn's qb forever to stand back there and pick us apart--by the way, the Boden kid, Karns qb, is one of the better qbs I've had the pleasure to watch. Need to get a better rush going on somehow. Probably gonna have to get a little risky and take some chances with some blitzes. Our special teams have been excellent, with the only blips in two games being a missed xp and a snap over the punter's head that resulted in giving Karns the ball deep in our territory

So tell me about the Bulldogs, Bearden fans. I've heard about your rb. Hear he might be as good as any we'll face this season?? What are you strengths? What do you still need to work on?

Looking forward to hosting a great game this Friday!

The Bearden defense is outstanding...WB will have a hard time scoring IMO.....the Bearden offense has #33 who was just offered by Stanford today as a JR....He is the real deal and most explosive player in TN regardless of class IMO...If WB can contain him...they have a chance...but after getting the offer from the Pac-10 I would expect him to be on cloud 9 and really give it to WB. And if you try and stop the run...Bearden will hurt you through the air as they have a QB who can make plays.......and is way more efficient than the QB they had last year.......

  11. Well it finally time to stop talking about "09" because it is suddenly upon us. The future is here... and what does it hold? We have the Franklin Rebels going up against the Wildcats of BGA for the first week of the season. Some have called this the battle for Mack Hatcher, but many might think of this game as THE high school versus THE private school.

Its kind of odd being on this side of the argument...

Franklin big.....IMO Lee and Ford are too much....

  12. Well let’s get it started this year. Smyrna starts the year off against a Beech team which I do not know a lot about. I believe last year, they won a few games in the playoffs and lost to Hillsboro. I’m not sure what they have coming back but surely there are folks out there that could fill me in about Beech.

Smyrna should not surprise anyone. Smyrna will be physical, Smyrna will be fast and Smyrna will “bring it” for 4 quarters or more if necessary. However, something that may surprise a few people this year is the improvement of the QB and the WR play. I have been to 2 of the 3 scrimmages and a few of Smyrna’s practice sessions and I see GREAT improvement in those two aspects of the Smyrna Program this year. OL looks pretty good. Defense looks very good against the run but needs work against the pass. If the passing game can keep the defenses honest and keep them from keying on the great backs, Smyrna will be really tough to stop. So I fell it is important that the passing games gets it going this year.

    Any thoughts on the game?

my question with Smyrna is do they play up to potential...or are they a year away......have some of the best talent in the state.....but have some big games......they beat beech though IMO

  13. After Thursdays scrimmage, the team had a players only meeting. The result was a very emotional and inspired effort in the IMAC jamboree. This team has a wealth of talent and could be very special.

I know very little about AE other than they are very young on O and have 2 big linebackers that are rated in the top LB's in Knoxville.

I hope some AE fans comment so we can get a feel for our opponent.

I hope all AE/Fulton fans have a safe trip up 40 and enjoy our facilities. Burke-Toney really is a great place to watch a HS football game.

IMO AE is more talented...and those LB's you mentioned are headhunters...young at skill positions but very talented....

  14. I think this will be a very good game to start FC's 2nd season under their new coaches. It will be a good drive against a good team. Lets hope Terrance Martin and Co. can put up big numbers to start the year. How do you think this plays out?

too much martin and Jeremy Wooten...who will be a big surprise to some at QB

  15. if you recal that last year devrin was contained for the entire game agaisnt west. he had one big play but other than that he was shut down. nad wests defense this year is much stronger faster bigger, and over all a much better defense

that long run was the difference in the game.....that is my point....West will not be able to contain him the entire game....regardless of how much better they have gotten...he is better than last year too...you "contained" him last year and he still had 120-130 yards rushing....West problem isnt defense...its offense......that will be the achillies heel all season...the defense can play with anyone on most Friday nights...

  16. Who wins???

    Go ahead give prediction!!!

    Have at it!!!

The West defense will be tough. I think that the offense will struggle against Bearden's defense...and although good..the West D will not be able to contain Devrin Young for an entire game.

    bearden 21-7....

  17. Who is a true contender in their respectible classification.....what team is truly a state contender(if any)...what games are or should be GAMES OF THE WEEK...just good straight-talk.

    some players.

Keon Williams-Red Bank. One of the top prospects in the state in 2010 class

Jacques Smith-Ooltewah. The top prospect in the state in 2010 class

    Maury Ragsdale McMinn Central

    Ben Stiles McMinn Central

    Clarence Wiley Chatt Howard

    David Knowles Chatt Howard

    PJ Hubbard Soddy Daisy

    Cy Ables McMinn County

    Devin Caldwell Boyd Buchanan

    Sam Williams Baylor

    Keenon Rush-McCallie

    Eric McCoullough -Chatt Howard

    Scott Parrott-Soddy Daisy

  18. Does anyone have any information about football combines in or near Tennessee in late June or July ?

most have already passed on the East Coast unless you are going to an elite camp and those are invite only...most kids are in the team camp phase right now...and kids will move to the 7 on 7 circuit later this summer..then fall camp....most of your combines happen in the spring.

  19. One of my favorite things to do every year is to fill out the Murphy Fair preseason football magazine because it always gives me a chance to have a say in the all-state teams each and every year and it also is a way to compare my own personal all-state selections to those at the end of the year. If anyone else has any all-state caliber names that they would like to let be known I would love to see some of the names so I can follow them throughout the coming year.......

    Quarterback: Brandon Johnston (Smith Co.)

Running Backs: Jaron Toney & Taharrin Tyson (Alcoa); Jabronski Gilbert (Milan)

    Wide Receiver: Perry Horkins (Harpeth)

    Tight End: Tyler Robinson (Alcoa)

Offensive Center: Travei Pryor (Austin East)*

Offensive Guards: Justin Marsh (Alcoa) & Brady White (Cheatham Co.)

Offensive Tackles: Timmy Bush (Smith Co.) & Tanner Owen (Cheatham Co.)

Defensive Linemen: Christian Coleman (Milan), Daryl Warren & Tyler Robinson (Alcoa), & Darrell Fitzgerald (Pearl Cohn)

Linebackers: Dee Herbert (Alcoa), Avery Williamson (Milan), Parker Burton (Goodpasture), & Ethan Cassidy (Fairview)

Cornerbacks: Michael Johnson (Westmoreland) & Richard Taylor (Pearl Cohn)

Safeties: Seth McFerrin (Goodpasture) & Devante Hawkins (Austin East)*

    Kicker/Punter: Glen Nabors (Goodpasture)

    some very good players....good list..

  20. Unlike the 3A team I am not going to attempt the guess an entire "all-state team" for 4A but I will start the thread because I know some posters have listed their teams players on the 3A thread.

Players that I would like to show some attention to include:

Quarterbacks: Bo Wallace (Giles Co.), Hunter Poteete (DeKalb Co.), Broc Loveless (Spring Hill), & Trox Greenwade (White House)

Running Backs: Stanley Hagan (Maplewood), William Officer (David Lipscomb), Bryan Dixon (White House), Landon Morris (Sycamore), & Tobias Houston (Giles Co.)

Wide Receivers: Abram Edwards (DeKalb Co.), Xavier Lee (Spring Hill), Broaderick Tears & David Tadajewski (Marshall Co.)

    Offensive Linemen: Garrett Mayberry (Sycamore)

    Linebackers: William Stevens (David Lipscomb)

Hunter Poteete is very explosive...I also like the Greenwade kid alot............

  21. Inside Knox County I think Farragut, Bearden and Catholic should be good. I think West also has the potential to surprise people. Most of the other schools, even the ones that have historically good programs, have a lot of question marks. Halls, Powell and Central are all very young. Of the programs that have been down for a while I think South Doyle could be the biggest surprise because of Clark Duncan . . . if they are 5A? I'm not sure.

Outside of Knox County I think Clinton is going to be very good and is the obvious favorite to win their district. Oak Ridge has a new coach that will likely get them going in the right direction again and Maryville will continue to be the best until somebody proves otherwise. Anderson County's coaching change should also be interesting.

good post..my thoughts would be similiar to yours...except the SD comment.........I think they struggle....
