  1. Strange coaching decisions I saw tonight:

Page ran it down the rebels throats early, but rather than stick with it decided to throw long?  no explanation that makes sense to me, but West's #6 sure benefitted from the repeat decision again and again.

Page went for on fourth down on their own 20 while they had a lead.  Rebels set up with a goal line defense and make the stop and the get the points.  Foreshadowing.

West late, still holds the lead... were there 8 minutes left?  They threw on all three downs when they could have eaten more clock.

Page went for it fourth in the fourth when they could have taken a chip shot FG to put them within 2.  I thought at the time that they should kick it because they'd make a stop and get a chance at the winning FG.

In the second half page burned their first two timeouts for know apparent reason and then they used the last way too early.

I also really didn't understand why page pulled the starting QB late.  the wildcat was an okay option, but you had to know those should have been throwing downs.  Did the Senior QB end the game on the bench? I thought so.

I have to say when I saw the coin toss I thought page had it locked up.  They had a bigger more powerful line.  The qb hardly ever got touched.  page ran it when they wanted (except against that west goal line d.)   Why didn't they stick with their strengths?

one of the most exciting finals i've ever seen.

I’m not gonna get into any of that, but all I’m gonna say is I know the football coach is glad he has them and he has used them over the last few years.

Who?  I don't follow them enough to know.

I think this is going to come down to a defensive slugfest or struggle; which ever you want to call it. I’ve been saying all year that we are stout in the middle. We are clicking on all cylinders now so, West will have to turn the corner running but, we have speed to match.

I think we were just happy to be here the past two years but now we are wanting the gold ball. That may be the difference this year.

With all due respect, ya'll won 10-7.  If that's hitting on all cylinders, then you have a four-cylinder.

It’s all fun and games haha my buddy from the army is coming down from Indiana and he said we’re hurting is Oakland is our best high school program lol center grove is already out… they didn’t even go far this year so see it comes from every direction. There are teams that would embarrass Oakland just as bad as they did Bradley. Imagine IMG or mater dei… it’d be 80 or 90 to 0

When all your area teams lose so you decide to say everyone else stinks...

Biggest thing that has hurt the football is that they allowed the school to get out of hand on enrollment and now they can't accept tuition students. That's our leaders for us. If a family lives in the county and wants to go to Maryville they either move into the city or they can't go there. It will be like that for a few more years until new school is built. Other thing that hurts no one talks about is that the 9th grade goes to a different school half mile away at the junior high. Because of that the 9th grade can't compete in spring practice. We had a bunch of 9th graders come on during the season. Had Derek had those kids to work with in the spring he would have been in a better position at the first of the year.

Not being funny, but I'd love to know how everyone in the area could control enrollment.  Knoxville too.  Everytime I turn around there's a new house built on an empty lot.  Who's responsbile for that in maryville?  The city council?  County commission?

Can't wait to see if they can keep getting better. That staff/Lee Smith sure are trying hard to bring the best talent there! This was most talented team in school history in my memory. Tough to understand how they could have been so mediocre in every facet outside running the ball.  Excited to get down from the mountain and see a couple games again next year. Love the new paint job by the ticket booth this season!

    this is a great post.

  7. I don't think we need to overcomplicate this matchup.

West has allowed 5 points post season. Walker Valley has allowed 64.  Their opponents for the post-season have similar records.

Have to believe that the only Defense that was comparable to West that WV has faced was Bradley Central.

Yes WV has three shut-outs.  They were also shutout once.

WV really hasn't played a schedule to prepare them for this game.  On the BC game was a really tough opponent and that ended very badly.  The strength of schedule ratings from Maxp arent even comparable.

But I will say, WV and Rhea county in particular have always been very tough blue collar teams.  That's what I expect to see in this game.   But west has also shown a bluecollar mindset since the current coach arrived.  and now they have the belief they can win it all.  I don't know what they have coming up, but they sure seem like they could stay good for quite a while.

I mean every team is going to be protective of their qb. If the refs isn’t going to call forward progress and let them drive the qb to the dirt the team will be pretty upset. Just my take west is the better team overall I’m not doubting that I hope they bring back a championship.

the ball was already contested when FP stopped.  You should watch it on tv. Looked  like the right call.

I think that's a little harsh, BT. That said, I do think he's a talker, and I'm not a fan of that. His mom came over to the sidelines after he got tossed last night and was laying into him (or at least she appeared to be). Hopefully he'll get his mind right and come back even more focused in 2024.

Fwiw, my wife had him as a student years ago. He was a good kid, good parents, very athletic with a pedigree (his granddad played basketball at Iowa State), and he excelled academically (still does). Haven't talked to him in years, but I'd love to see a bit more humility on the field.

Powell has always talked a lot.  I'd say that's a culture piece.

"key board Warriors"....so what are you doing, chiseling in stone? LOL. Still no numbers on Keith's won/loss record at Clinton.

Did you get this riled up when OR canned a coach (after one season) that had improved over the previous 3-8 season to a winning season?  or did you get this mad when gaddis went 3-8?  just seems like you're mad about coach keith's postseason success.

My point is that Clinton has only been elite what..twice? Really once in 1992!  Yet its two neighboring schools have had many elite seasons and both have state championships.  Oak Ridge has a national if I’m not mistaken!  In what 100 years of football they still settle for this?  Calling this a great season again is very Butch Jones of anyone to say.

your neighbor's success only holds you down.  You'd be better off being angry at them, but here we are.

HOld on.  I just realized.  You're from OR over here badmouthing the clinton coach?  That's actually pitiful.

Why? Because truth trickles out? That Clinton fans have been duped?  That Keith was selected because of his son being on lists of top QBs to watch and not because of his track record?  He coached middle school a couple years, then high school a couple as an assistant then he lucked out and got a HC job in Kentucky at a school Union County would beat.  He coached for a semi-pro team (which we all know semi-pro is code for men’s league).  He was hired over an actual proven Coach and classroom teacher that was vetted by a principal that grew up and went to that very school!?  That’s weird and awkward? He had to go out and recruit players to come to the school just to have a losing record? What did Clinton achieve in reality? Nothing. It’s still a losing program.  A losing program that went to the third round. Well that’s super duper.

no.  that's not it.  Y'all just had the best postseason I can remember in the last 15 years or so and you think this is what to bring up today?  And you obviously are convinced  you're right.  Troll was pretty awkward too.  But I can't believe any of y'all are on here talking this way.  reflects a whole lot of craziness.

I think Wheeler is a front runner. Goes up against a good defense and shows he has no class. Should have gotten flagged and kicked out for the punch he threw on West side line. I think it was him who later got tossed for spearing a West player while he was on the ground. The kid seems spoiled and a very unsportsman like attitude.

pretty sure he's playing hurt.  Also, that's being awfully hard on a high school kid.  and I'm not even a powell fan.

What gets me is nobody on here understands the significance of the Bradley walker game this year. Walker valley is dominating every team they play minus east which was a fluke… but to see Bradley do that to walker valley when nobody else can even touch walker is insane. Bradley mercy ruled them and walker is demolishing everyone they play. That’s pretty over looked if you ask me.

I think you may be overstating WV.  They squeaked by Mcminn, and Cleveland both of which are basically 500 teams.
