I can't help but go back and look at their games with the other two region 2 playoff teams. Central had no trouble with Sevier County and Halls, West struggled to pull out wins against both. That has to mean something. As HTV said earlier, West has struggled all year trying to find their offense. Against this Central's defense that could be an issue. Regardless, I don't see the winning team scoring very many points.

You could make that argument for sevier co.  I suppose.  But, the difference between an 8 point win over Halls and 12 point win over halls is splitting hairs to me.  The entire discussion fails to take a third common opponent into account: Fulton.

    Great line-up this week:

    Rhea Co. @ Bradley Central

    William Blount @ Hardin Valley

    Halls @ Central

    Farragut @ Fulton

    Catholic @ Powell

This is perhaps the most compelling Pick 'em lineup we've had thus far.

Did anybody catch the Coaches Corner show last night?  Go back and watch that and then revisit your "fine young men that represent our community".  But if you watch it, be ready it is way past cringe worthy.

Does it tie in with the "Respect the tradition" stuff I saw on the twitter?

Johnny is correct, however. Powell has been doing this since Matt was playing for Clark at Powell. Clark is best known for his recruiting prowess. Where do you think Matt learned it? If you can't see this... you need to open your eyes. It is critical to note that it is happening just about everywhere now. The places that don't do it are getting WAY behind. Look at West/South Doyle/Powell, etc., etc., they are crushing the surrounding schools with it. HVA, Bearden, Farragut are being crushed by it and throw in the private schools and it is just downright ugly for them and their records reflect it. Those three teams are a combined 6-18 this year. Tough to believe recruiting from the private sector and other Knox County High Schools isn't playing some type of part in it.

Bearden has only had two 8-win-seasons in the last ten years.  HVA has only had one since they existed. Farragut had 4 really good years but has also had some really bad.  I don't think that's down to recruiting impacting them.

So does the TSSAA say publicly that recruiting will be dealt with just to make themselves look good, and then turn a blind eye to it?       Or are all the rumors of recruiting violations just that.... rumors?             What I was hoping to see in this thread is some EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE, not vague references to "this school or that school has been recruiting for years..."

So how about it sports fans..... PROOF or RUMORS?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzEt9cATWFw

Usually they the rumors are based on fact.  I've only heard of TSSAA ignoring evidence one time, and that was when they said the testimony of an athlete wasn't sufficient proof.  They want concrete proof, (photos, video, writing), and a member school has to turn it in.

Thx knoxem, at the time it seemed like alco passed on some points in the first half, and it nearly bit them.

I hope it’s another good game this Friday.

I wish every game was on diamond clear.  With the exception of the stupid automated commercials you can watch a whole game pretty quickly.  Such a great resource for HS football fans.

I thought alco kept going for it on fourth down in the first half and came away without points a couple times, but then they also went for it on fourth down right before halftime to score. Maybe that was a different year? My memory ain’t what it used to be.

I went back and watched last night.  The fake punt passed on a 56 yarder...

To start the second quarter Alcoa passed on a 47 yarder...

Alcoa did pass a 37 yarder with 7 minutes to go in the first... (No points yet on the board.)

Alcoa finally scored a TD to close the half. 7-0

    In the second half:

West passed on a 27-yarder with 7 minutes to go in the 3rd, down 7 (led to interception in the EZ).

West passed on a 48-yarder with 4 to go in the 3rd.

Alcoa passed on a 42-yarder in the last minute of regulation to take a shot in the EZ.

    Sidenote:

Alcoa is 2/2 on fgs.  Both kicked at Cookeville.  long of 29.

West is 3/3 on fgs.  Long of 38, game one against Bearden.

Was easy to make the comparisons of stats since they both keep their scoring on digitalscout.

So what’s west got? I watched the alco game but remember a lot of penalties and alco passing up a couple of early field goals. Did west have some players hurt and out of that game? Are they 100%?

Those Knox refs have been consistent for at least 40 yrs.

I don't think Alcoa passed up any FG's.  I watched that game and don't remember that at all.  They might have passed up a long one late.

Never understood why KC joined D2-AAA.  33% (Memphis) of the division is 6 hours away.  41% (Nashville) of the division is 2+ hours away.  IMO D2-AA made more since.  I think Lipscomb Academy proved there is enough competition at that level for them.

I've seen KC in person and Powell on TV and clips.  If Nolen is Nolen....give me Powell in this one as I think the middle of the O-line can be pushed.

Here's the most memorable quote from the time:

"With most of the private schools moving into Division II, we realize we’re not wanted in Division I with the public schools," Principal Dickie Sompayrac said. "I just think we don’t desire to be in a division where we’re not wanted."

Who you got Knox? never seen you back a specific team outside of defend "coaches"

I've said it multiple times.  I love HS football, and I like it when Knoxville area schools win.  Lots of programs I'm proud of.

I'd include Maryville and Alcoa in teams I'm proud of as well.

I'd love it if we ran the table.

    I'd take Coalfied in A.

    Oneida in AA

    Alcoa in AAA

AC, Carter, SD, or Fulton in 4a

Anyone from the area in 5a  (I even cheered for OR last year)

And Maryville is the only realistic chance in 6a.

I'm not a big fan of the Div. 2 model, but I'd still cheer for them in the State Finals.

I cheer against bad refereeing.  And I think most of these coaches care about kids and are giving it everything they've got.  I think we could look at everyone and second guess their coaching decisions from HS to the NFL.
