  1. Catholic's starting lineup this summer was 6'0, 6'3, 6'2. 6'5 and 6'7. Off the bench 6'2, 6'3, 6'1, 6'6, 5'10, 5'11, 5'9 and 5'9 (the latter 2 freshman). Have not seen Maryville.

I thought Terrence Hall played for you. He's like 5'1" on a good day

    Maryville's first seven 6'4", 6'4", 6'4", 6'6, 6'6", 6'2", 6'2".

  2. This year should tell a lot about Eldrige. His team got spanked at Farragut last night and only scored 30 points. The last two years, Maryville has been blessed with lots of talent and experience. It looks like this year, there are quite a few inexperienced players getting a lot of PT. This year may be a real challenge in the district. Are there football players that will help?

Maryville played poorly last night and Farragut played very well. It happens. Maryville is also without starter Cameron Langley who is out with mono. He's put up double numbers in every scrimmage and game that he has played in this year. Ryan Click and Jay Reynolds did not have a good night and that is unusual. If you've seen Maryville at all through the spring, summer and fall they've looked solid. They have a really classy coach and I wish the best for them.

  3. I would say McMinn Central and Brainerd will probably be the two to beat again this year. Tellico looks much improved and seem to be getting better each year under coach Yates. Sequoyah looks strong, but are still young. Changed coaches again with Perry Hull back at the helm. Talent alone should win more games than last year (5), but may still be a year away from seriously contending for the district lead. These guys have worked hard all summer and may exceed expectations and suprise a lot of people.

Don't know enough about the rest of the district to comment.

    Maryville beat McMinn Central tonight.

  5. There is a team here in Pittsburgh that is the best high school team I have ever seen. Gateway High School in Monroeville, PA, a Pittsburgh suburb, is loaded with talent. Prior to this team the best teams I have seen were the Melrose teams in the 90's and the South Panola team with Dewayne Rudd and Deshea Townsend. They would defeat both those teams. Maryville could stay close for a half but not much longer. They have at least 15-20 high D-1 players. They have 2 players Dorian Bell an Ohio State committ and Corey Brown undecided selected to play in the Army All American game. That leads to this question: Why is TN football lacking in quality?

Dear Lord, Here we go again!!!!!

  6. Hmmm , are you talking about Franklin , or Franklin County , or Franklin road academy ? I did a search for team championships on the TSSAA website and it does seem like your school has had a very , very successful run in Girl's soccer , and that Is something to be proud of , but I was a little confused about your Football team ? Either way , congrats on your Girls soccer team , you could almost say , You guys are the " Maryville " of Girl's soccer !!

    Well, aren't they somethin'?

  7. Believe me Hitch , I don't know anyone who knows you , nor do I care to . As far as regions go ...... our third place team in our region just last night dominated your team , do you really want to go there , and do you really think it matters what region or classification Maryville is in ? It amazes me that with all of your self proclaimed brilliance , you just don't understand how pathetic it is to do what you're doing . Everybody on the Internet has seen people like yourself who are so attention starved that they resort to stalking the more popular threads . You wish it was Oak Ridge that was getting the attention that Maryville is , so you resort to the most pathetic , and sad thing seen on the Internet . Internet stalking . Your life must not be nearly as fulfilling and great as you say, if this is what you have to look forward to . Continue to stalk away , and we'll continue to smirk and laugh at you , it really is funny to see a grown man Stalking a team of High school,15-18 year old boys . Maybe the fact that Oak Ridge has people like you is the real problem at that school , not just the coach . I can safely say that none of our regular posters would resort to your level of ignorance , even if we didn't win another game for the next 4 years .

If everyone (myself included) would stop responding to him and others like him, then they would disappear.

  8. Here maybe you will like this...

    61 wins, not a straight 62

Because i heard only you guys love GQ

We made Nike the rags of champions

Guess we gotta patent them and stamp'em

They brought a shield to a gun fight

There Cinderella strikes out friday night

No, but I'll ask Coach Rankin if he likes it.

  9. Redsox is right the place will be packed. If you did not get your ticket today or have a season ticket, you might be trying to see from the fences if you wait until 530 to get there. Not a great place to watch unless it is the north end zone when the teams are in the red zone. This is a great HS event. On the Alcoa side, besides the Alcoa faithful there will also be quite a few Maryville haters, who have been waiting for years to see Maryville lose. They can't wait for this group of kids to come up short and show up anytime the other team gets hyped up as being the one to beat ???Maryville Down???. Maryville has seen this type of thing for many years and some of it is classless. Mayville will lose one day but I doubt it would be any kind of beat down. Last week Halls gave the Rebels all they wanted, but you have to play 4 full quarters to beat any well coached team. Halls was worn down and Maryville hung 21 un-answers points on them. Maryville has won many close games in the final quarter the past 10-12 years. Alcoa has not done it in years. Last week Alcoa played another cream puff and I have more confidence knowing my Rebels were in a hard fought game vs. a quality team. Alcoa may again have all the tools, maybe this year we will get to see them. One thing is for sure the fans will see how a champion conducts it??™s business on the field.

Win or lose the Rebels are champions and in a class of their own.

    Outstanding post!!!

  10. I'm walkin' down the road

I see a man on the street

    He's wearin' Black & Red

We're going to break their streak

    He doesn't know it yet

but he will in a week

    Friday night rolls around

    the crowd is going insane

The announcer's voice on the PA

Booms over the stadium with my name

    Rankin is calling for captains

This year will not be the same

Frist drive is three and out

    and Alcoa gets the ball

    The punt returner fields it

Wow! he looks like Dante Hall

The game is gong according to plan

The mighty giant is about to fall

    Keep your day job!

  11. Maryville will be 6A next year. NOBODY can save them from moving up next year. Rumor I heard they have over 1500 right now.

Maryville doesn't want or need to be saved. Trust me when I say the following. ONLY the non-Maryville fans obsess about the classification Maryville is currently in or will be in next year. I'm sure many dream about it.

  12. yeah you could tell from 6 game tapes of Mville compared to 6 game tapes of MBA last year whom has the advantage and whom should win 9 out of 10 times- - never said I trump you and im not the most versed on coaching and playing as i am sure many more on this board have me trumped but yeah my 5 years at Notre Dame playing ball, 15 years coaching at a private powerhouse school in Chicago area and coaching overseas does give me alot of insight - more then someone WHOM wears Maryville footie pajams, or acts as a booster or runs the chains...

Are we supposed to be impressed? You sir, have absolutely no class!!!!! The obsession with Maryville football from non-Maryville fans is puzzling at best.

  13. then there is no need to take offense if you know it as well. and no one questioned the talent and history of Maryville, they deserve all the credit and respect that comes with being a great football team throughout the years in Tennessee. lighten up... these are just opinions and observations and you know what those can be compared too hahahaah

  14. Interesting discussion. I will throw some thoughts out there.

I have seen several kids held back in elementary school due to athletics. Sometimes it is blatently to gain an athletic advantage. Other times it is due to a child struggling in studies because they are in year round baseball, basketball, and play football, leaving little or no time for studies. I think it is a potentially dangerous thing to send the message that athletics are more important than academics. Usually, this is done by parents that do not realize how few actually get scholarships or go on to play on a professional level. A few other parents in this camp are those ridiculous parents trying to achieve the popularity for their children that they wanted when they were young.

The question becomes, Is the extra year for those held back helping a child struggling with maturity and academics or is it designed to make him look like a man amoung kids in middle school and high school? I am not trying to judge their intentions or whether it is right or wrong. It is a parent's call. For the sake of fairness, I am not sure that a senior that has graduated on time should be lose a scholarship to a child who is a year older than him because he was held back. However, that is up to the University. My experience is that the extra year looks huge during puberty, (6th grade - 11th grade) but levels off later on. However, the only fair thing would be to change the age for start up for all kids. Let the ones that want to accelerate academically do so. Those that can't keep up should be excluded from extracurricular activites so that they can focus on school. It seems like that would make for a level playing field.

You make a lot of sense. I know parent's personally who would rather their children excel in sports than in the classroom. They are OK with a C on the grade card as long as they are scoring touchdowns on the field or baskets on the court. Way too many parent's are waiting on U.T., Florida, Michgan, etc. to come calling.

  15. There is little doubt that, on occasion, kids are held back or started later for various reasons, including athletics. 'thedumbestpersonalive" posted that generally "ALL" males who show athletic prowess are held back. This is simply not true.

BTW, holding a kid back for athletics is NOT WRONG, IMO. Holding a kid back might be the difference between a college scholarship or not. That's a lot of money and if holding a kid back improves the chance of scholarship and might be the difference in being able to even go to college or not, I'm for it at ANY school.

So, should all parent's of "potentially" good athletes hold their children back? There is no way in this world that a parent can tell at the age of five or six whether or not little Johnny or Susie will succeed at sports at the high school level. We all know the percentage of athletes that receive a scholarship after H.S. They should be held back if academically or socially not ready although most catch up anyway. However, it is a parent's perogative to hold back for whatever reason. Just not sure if I agree on holding them back for sports. My son was not held back and has a late spring birthday. He is a starter on (not a senior) an MHS team. So his youth has not hurt him.

  16. Watch there Opie, At least you admit that your team does recruit

& the fact that your team has been playing in 4 A when they could have moved up years ago

to where they should have been. I agree with you on our coach, But one thing you must remember, OR has never been afraid to play the best competition win or loose. You can't say that about everyone, Can you?
