  1. The Fant kid is a good football player but no where near the best player on the field, once again our coaching allowed him to be, not taking anything from the kid and I wish him well in college, but the kid didnt have blazing speed guarantee you he is 4.6 at best but has great vision and open field running ability, when we pressed him at the line which is what most coaches do to a receiver with those attributes he didn't catch a single pass, now when we played off he beat us every time for big play after big play to keep drives going or running after catch on a 6 yd hitch reception

I don't know if Fant wins the combine but he is a heck of a football player.

  2. So the first couple of pages of this thread are people brazenly thumping their chests about how much better TN football and Blackman are than KY and BG....then the remaining pages are people talking about how much Blackman got cheated by the officials....

Blackman's coach advocates for the classiness of his players and program yet they get 7 personal fouls...and he then proceeds to be quoted by the media as saying "those idiots in Bowling Green..." (you can see this if you follow BG Daily News Sports writer Zach Greenweell)...

The irony here is pretty thick.

Blackman is a great football team. They are well coached and play an excellent brand of football. But does anyone wonder why at no point the HC didn't circle his team up and say, "Look, we're going to have to play this one silently. Don't talk, don't celebrate anywhere but over here on the sidelines with your TEAMmates, don't give these officials ANYTHING, just play like you can play." Had they done that, they'd be 9-1, not 8-2.

Blackman and their HC strike me as a team who wants to be the 80's Miami Hurricanes on the field but be regarded as Notre Dame in the press. If you want to chirp it up, throw up hands and play with your chest puffed out, more power to you, but don't be a hypocrite and hide from that image and behavior when it bites you in the butt.

The result of the crying foul by Blackman is a soft, weak, excuse-making sham that is totally unlike the team that they actually are.

You may have missed it but Shad did gather the team up after about the 3rd penalty but unfortunately it did not seem to help.  Of course I wasn't in this huddle so I don't know what exactly was said and I'm pretty sure you don't know what was said either.

  3.

I was a neutral observer tonight. I am a fan of BG's biggest rival, but wasn't willing to drive to Cincy to watch us play. So I decided to go across town to see this game. I have no love for BG, but they were the classier team tonight.

I was taken back by the way the players AND coaches from Blackmon carried themselves. It started pre-game when Blackman ran right through the middle of BG's entrance to the stadium. It continued in the first half when players would taunt BG players after they made a nice play. This boiled over to halftime when the players taunted the BG crowd and when confronted the COACHES got in a shouting match with those trying to get their kids to calm down.

The officials had no control in the first half. They decided to clean up all of the tainting and trash talking (needed to be done). Blackman never adjusted. They continued to taunt and when they were called for it preceded to argue and whine. They earned every one of those unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The coaching staff should be ashamed of the way they allow their kids to act. It probably cost them the game tonight.

Ok.  I've posted very little this year choosing to stay out of all the arguing that goes on on this site but I was at the game and I feel a need to respond to this post.

As far as Blackman running thru Bowling Greens entrance onto the field - It was unintentional and due to the poor setup of Bowling Green's field.  For those that were not there, there was no visitors side.  One big Home side.  Blackmans fans probably had about 1/3 of one side of the field.  Therefore Blackman set up to run out on the field in front of there fans which were on that side of the field.  Bowling Green sets up to run on the field from the other side and runs at an angle right toward the visitors bench.  They both happen to run on the field at the same time and therefore run right into each other.  Completely unintentional by both teams so this should be the end of this being an act of disrespect by Blackman.

The most classless part of the 1st half in my opinion was Bowling Greens coach who was very demonstrative the whole 1st half while yelling at the officials and also going into halftime.  He was the one that almost incited a riot with his actions at that time.  It was him that caused Coach Shad to come over to the official who was being yelled at by Bowling Greens coach and caused some kind of words to be exchanged.  This is what fired up Blackman's team and had them extremely geeked going into halftime that Bowling Green seen as disrespectful.

As far as all the personal fouls on Blackman, All I know is the officials appeared to be ready to call them on us all night, but evidently it was pretty difficult to get one called on Bowling Green.

I will say there was a couple of classless Blackman fans yelling a lot at this game.  I had never seen or heard these guys before and am not sure why they were so vocal.  I did not like hearing that from them but unfortunately you got some of these in every crowd on every team.

Otherwise great game between 2 really good teams.  The Fant kid for Bowling Green was the best player on the field in my opinion.

    Go Blaze!!!

  4. I think Burks at Blackman will be fine this season.  He's working with James Wilhoit in the offseason, he'll be okay.  Timing was off on the missed field goal and he got under it a bit.  First kick jeters I'm sure.

Blackman appeared to be very solid on defense.  Shad pulled starting QB early so we didn't see much of him.  He's a tall kid who better learn to run with his head down or he's gonna have some loose teeth!  Back up QB made some nice throws in some tight holes.   Don't count them out.

Siegel was VERY impressive on offense.  I don't see anyone shutting them down, so, much like last year, you'll have to out score them.  Blackman has the weapons to do it.  I see an extremely tight game with the home field edge possibly making the difference in this one.

We will be at the field broadcasting beginning at 4:00 pm.  We'll have interviews with both these coaches along with other coaches.  We'll also talk district football with 7AAA Networks, Eric Smith.   Lastly, Donovan Stewart will join us to analyze all the big games across the state for that night!

Join us for the 4:00 Friday Night Main Event on 93.9 FM or catch our live stream at 939TheDuck.Com.

Yea I think Burks has looked pretty good kicking but Blackman's punting has looked really weak, but it it early and I'm sure the talent is there.  Just have to get used to doing it under the lights.

  5. Oakland and Riverdale always play each other tough no matter the situation.  I think Oakland wins just because they have more experience and confidence and athletes than Riverdale at the moment but Riverdale will fight til the end. I'll say Oakland 28, Riverdale 14.

  6. Giving my vote to Siegel due their better kicking game.

Siegel definitely has a better kicking game as Blackmans kicking game is weak at the moment.  I believe Siegel is more ready for game 1 than Blackman.  They have more confidence I believe and they believe they are going to win.  This game is at Siegel.  I hope I'm wrong but I believe Siegel wins

  7. Siegel was definitely the most impressive or Lavergne was the least impressive.

None of the other teams stood out that much.  All the teams look like really good teams except Lavergne.

So from this jamboree, I predict:

    1. Siegel

    2. Whoever wins Blackman/Oakland game

    3. Whoever loses Blackman/Oakland game

    4. Whoever wins Riverdale Smyrna game

    5. Whoever loses Riverdale/Smyrna game

    6. Whoever wins Lavergne/ Stewarts Creek game

    7. Whoever loses Lavergne/Stewarts Creek game

  8. Blackman scrimmaged McCallie last night and McCallie won the overall scrimmage 24-22.  Very even scrimmage.  I saw some good and some bad from Blackman last night.  Definitely potential there, just have to put it all together.  McCallie moved the ball on us better than I would have hoped but I know they have a very good team.  I am worried about Blackmans special teams.  The kickoffs and field goal kicking looks solid but the punting is not very good right now.  That is going to hurt us somewhere down the road if we don't correct that.  Antonio Allen did not dress for this scrimmage so that affected our defensive performance I'm sure.

    Players that impressed for Blackman:

#2 Jennings looks really good at Safety and will be really good at quarterback with time.

#7 Killings looks athletic and made some plays on defense.  He did drop a long ball that would have been a touchdown.

#12 Armstrong looks good on defense especially for a sophomore.

#22 Notgrass looks good at Running Back.

#24 Davidson looks good at Running Back.

#30 Henry has potential at receiver

#40 Shanklin looks good on defensive line.

#14 Biliot looked good a qb late in game.

  9. I know Blackman is scrimmaging Franklin on Aug. 2nd and McCallie the following friday on the 9th. Both are tenatively set for 6PM. Hope that helps

Yes, this helps a lot. Are these at Blackman? Also, love your website. This district needed and deserved something this good. Thanks, hope you keep up the great work.

  10. You do realize that Oakland and Riverdale don't play on the same day as Blackman and Siegel don't you?

Oakland-Riverdale play Thursday night of Week 0. Blackman and Siegel play that Friday night followed by La Vergne and Smyrna on Saturday night. It's a special thing the district is doing for its Week 0 games. New school Stewarts Creek will be at Ravenwood that Friday night.

The DNJ had this info several months ago.

What a great way to start the season. I may go to all 3.

  11. I think it would be unwise to not mention Oakland with Blackman and Riverdale from 7-AAA. Will give both all they can handle and hem some this upcoming season

Very True. Oakland has some of the top talent anywhere with Eubank and Gipson. Will be a great battle in 7aaa. Also Smyrna really improved at the end of last year and will also be a threat.
  12. Who are the favorites to bring home the gold ball? I know it is early but with spring practices starting to fire up, it got me wondering. I would have to stay

    1. Blackman

    2. Riverdale

    3. Bradley Central

    4. Anitoch

    5. Science Hill

    6. Knoxville Bearden

    7. Mt. Juliet

    8. Brentwood

I know that all depends on who recruits the best around the boro but, hey....just kidding, but we all know someone will get someone.

Blackman and Riverdale should have some monster games next year. Riverdale has the best player in the state in Middleton and also Davenport who is one of the top 10 players in the state, but they did lose Jones, Petty. However, what new players will Riverdale add to their team? Blackman is absolutely loaded and still very young and will get Meme Jackson finally after sitting out a year. They won't lose much next year if at all.

  13. Blackman did not play a good game. Blackmans outside game was nonexistent in this game unfortunately and that hasn't happened all year. Typically, Dowdy or Rogan will be hitting their 3's and take the scoring load off of Darius, Q, and Coleman. Neither of them were ready for the moment. I did not like Blackmans coaches strategy in the 2nd half. When brentwood started pressing, blackman should have started running. Blackman is a better uptempo team than a slow down team but Blackman was too cautious against the press. Also, the fact that Blackman beat Brentwood by 30 earlier in the year and was up 18 at halftime I believe played in to their head and they thought they had it won and did not come to play in the 2nd half. You can not do that in the state tournament. Unfortunately Blackman will not get the chance to prove it was not overrated against Southwind. I watched Southwind today and it would have been a tough challenge but if Southwind got the real Blackman, it could contend with Southwind. We would have had a problem with JW3's size though. That kid was really good. I believe that Brentwood will be content winning a game in the state tournament and go down easy Friday. I also believe Siegel(a team Blackman beat 4 times this year) will beat Dyer county and then lose to Southwind in the final.

  14. Ironic, Southwind is also senior laden. I think they're top 8 players are Seniors. They have a alot of star power with Jajuan Johnson(Marquette), Jonathon Williams (Mizzou), and 6'5 Peyton Husley at PG (Lipscomb). A very deep team that loves to force the tempo, but can execute in the half court due to matchup problems the three players above can force with their size and length.

Best way to beat this team is to muck the game up physically and try to limit Williams' effectiveness on the inside. Ridgeway does it well. Their losses this year were all to nationally ranked teams, Lone Peak(Utah), LB Poly (Cali), Simeon (Chicago), and Ridgeway (x2).

Blackman also starts 5 seniors and 1 of there top players off the bench is a senior. They play 1 sophomore and 1 junior off the bench also.

  15. I was impressed with Blackman.......they demolished the fast undersized Owls....but with more depth and inside presence they will be back next year......I gotta go with a Memphis team to win it all.....they eat sleep breathe basketball down there......and D1 recruits are the normal.....

This is the year for Blackman. They are senior dominated and deep this year. They have an elite player in Darius Thompson. They will be a good team next year but I don't think this good.

  16. Congrats to Bradley Central on making it to State. You deserve it.

Also, Very proud of the Lady Blaze this year. I never dreamed at the start of this year, that they would be this good as young as they are. I had a feeling that this game might be too much for the youth of Blackman but that will not be a problem next year. To go 26-5 starting 2 freshman and 1 sophomore is incredible. This team will be a contender for it all next year. Riverdales dominance of 7aaa and the state is nearly over. Blackmans time is coming. Go Lady Blaze!!! Do work in the offseason
