  2. is there anyone driving to this event??

i am really having a hard time finding transportation to go and wont school be going on during this event? and i also wish i had more info like how long this tournament is...

    It's March 23-28th $45 entry fee and $100 for Coaching/membership

  3. As someone who wrestled in Virginia and now coaches in Tennessee I fully support the A/AA state individual tournament. Virginia currently has three divisions within the state A, AA, and AAA. The sport has grown dramatically within the state and the competition level has grown dramatically. I know wrestlers that have won A, AA, and AAA state championships and none of them stick an asterisks beside their state titles because someone is better than them at another division. If the goal is to expand the sport of wrestling then allowing the small schools to compete with other small schools gives those wrestlers the best opportunity to compete. A school with 800 kids does not often have the same resources and pool of athletes to compete with a school that has 2200 kids. Two of the most dominant schools in Virginia are Christiansburg and Grundy and both of those schools compete at the AA level. Christiansburg just won their ninth straight state title at the AA level and no one puts then down for winning at that level. By creating a new division this would allow new schools within Tennessee to become the Bradley's and Baylor's at their level. Developing and expanding wrestling within the state should be the main goal not stroking someone's ego by allowing them to say they are the only state champion at their weight class.

Why not take the top four from A, AA, and AAA and have a 12 man bracket the following weekend?

I would go along with that.

I love this idea, it could be a Grand Champion!! That would please both sides of this debate.

  4. Do your programs pay for everything? The only thing our wrestlers have provided for them are the team singlet, one pair of shorts, and one t-shirt. Singlets are property of the school. Parents pay for shoes, headgear, warm ups, any additional shorts and t-shirts they choose to purchase, and fees to the program it's self.

  5. I'm 99.9% sure Luke Hall won 112-119 Freestyle........I know his bracket was messed up right before the championship match, he had to wait another hour of so for it to get started.

Trey Stavrum vs Zach Johnson (145 freestyle semi-finals) - Back and forth battle between multiple time state medalists that couldn't have been any closer. Stavrum wins the 1st and 3rd periods by virtue of scoring last with the point totals even. Johnson won the second outright 2-1. That match couldn't have been any more of a heart attack on either side, Stavrum scored with maybe 2 seconds left to win the 3rd. Seemed to pickup a good bit of spectators and probably would have gotten my vote as best match of the tournament!

Cole Hayes vs Alex Johnson (140 freestyle semi-finals) - Battle of state champions that that drew a crowd to watch as Johnson outlasted Hayes in a good 3 period match. Johnson would go on to lose to another state champ, Stuart Doster, in the finals in 2 periods.

Kendall Kermick vs Cole Moseley (112-119 Greco final / 3rd round of pool) - match would determine the winner of the bracket. I believe it went 0-0 in the 3rd and Kermick got the reverse lift and Moseley was hit for a leg foul for the deciding point. Don't quote me on that one though.

Kendall Kermick vs Luke hall (112-119 Freestyle finals) - Another close back and forth match between previous state medalists that Kermick took 2-1, 4-4.

Brad Compton vs Cullen King (130 semi-finals freestyle) - Match was full of action with lots of points being scored. King pulled out a close victory at the end. This was a rematch of the 119 state consolation semi-finals that King won.

Junior 145 freestyle bracket - This one in general was just a blast as you had 5 state medalists in the bracket: Mark Simpson, Josue Brown, Trevor Herron, Zach Johnson, Trey Stavrum. That bracket was absolutely loaded and was fun to watch unfold.

Junior 140 freestyle bracket - 3 previous state champs: Cole Hayes, Alex Johnson, Stuart Doster

Junior 130 freestyle and Greco - 3 previous state runner-ups: Blake Hataway, Marvin Lopez, Alex Manley along with 2 state medalists: Cullen King, Brad Compton

Junior 152 - Both styles really put on a fun show with some nice throws. Between Chanse Hayes, Brandon Isbell, Vince Aguilar, and Adam Kilkenny there was a lot of action in those bouts ending with a lot of falls usually coming off someone's throws.

Brandon Brunner vs Cale Shelton (Schoolboy 98) - These kids had a couple of good battles in both styles. Both kids will be ones to watch as they move up. Very fun matches to watch. Not sure if we will see any rematches at SE Regionals because I think I heard Shelton was moving down to 91.

Those are a lot of the ones I remember as I was pretty occupied making sure the tournament kept moving throughout the day. Those also tend to be ones with kids I coached or others I just knew I wanted to see. I am sure there are some others that many could mention.

  6. Something must be done. Come on TN we must grow strong and do all we can to reinstate this wrestling program. Does anyone have any idea if Ridenour will still be attending Carson Newman or has changed his plans.

I think he is now going to Kings with Nate and Jason, along with several other CN wrestlers. It's a shame. I know my son was planning on attending CN. It broke a HS freshman's heart. I'm sure there are many others out there that feel the same way. Nate and Jason do a great job up there nothing against them. Being ex-eagles themselves I'm sure they understand how we feel.

  7. A friend of mine's father played golf with some of the guys this morning. Everyone is very upset & said that there were 40 kids in the program, but only 6 -8 on scholarship. That it wasn??™t really that big of a cut and everyone needs to start bombarding the president of CN with emails and letters. Going to the athletic director won??™t help because he can??™t do anything. President is:
