  1. Perhaps that is where the difference actually starts? Those teams either predominantly constructed of premier club level players or those coached by the same see no sport in running up the score on a less fortunate term. Those less fortunate to have the number of club players or coaches trained as similar seem to actually find sport in running up the score. Hence, there are several frequent offenders.

The point I was trying to illustrate, thanks for picking it up and validating it, was that even when two of the highest caliber teams match up, surviving a 3-0 comeback is almost improbable with the best team, 4-0? nope. Bottom line? When you are up 4-0. 5-0 in the first half, the "game" is over. Any additional scoring warrants the question why. There remains only two benefits to this and they have either already been stated in this thread or implied, neither of which seem to be considered by most as "good soccer".

  3. As a newbie here I have resisted jumping on the bandwagon, getting on my soapbox, etc... but I do have a strong opinion on these double digit winning score margins.

IMHO there is no way a coach should allow the game to be decided by double digits. I do not put the blame on the players, but squarely on the coaches. It reflects poorly on the coaches and the school. The players will do the best to do as they are instructed. I don't mean that they should just play keep-away. Most of us have seen that tactic and it does look like you are trying to embarrass the other team. There are other ways the girls can still play hard and not get a score every time the go down the field.

The coaches bear the responsibility to keep playing in the spirit of the game.

  5. We aren't talking about the siegel game, we are talking about the Coffee County game. I doubt CHS brought busloads of fans down there. Where the stands overflowing? .... And like I said, if you don 't like it do like a lot of programs are forced to do - raise your own money and build a bigger and better field. If it weren't for football and the money it generates small sports like soccer wouldn't even be around.

I don't know how other programs are funded in other parts of the state but at my daughters high school the football program does not share any of the money it raises. The county does provide the coaches an extra stipend for coaching, but all other expenses, including travel, uniforms, refs, field maintenance, etc... are paid by the booster club. Yes, football makes a lot of money, but it does not share with any other sports.

  6. The threat of a lawsuit is always an option, but one immediate action that can have an effect on the administration is for all the parents of the players to call the Principal. It does not have to be just parents, ask other friends to call. They can call and complain in a civil manner. Hopefully if he receives enough grief he will make sure he doesn't have to deal with it again. I don't know the situation, but the girls softball team usually gets less than the baseball team. Enlist parents of the softball team to register their complaint as well.

    Good Luck
