Yes, South should be favored to win district 1AAA. Undefeated is pretty unlikely though given their tourney schedule including two trips to mid-state: Brentwood on 9/9&10 and Murfreesboro on 10/7&8. The talent and depth may be enough to finally get back to state. (Last trip was '06.) Think 10 out of 11 (maybe 11 of 12) varsity players played club this year. Beware of the SOPHOMORE OH. Somebody is going to get hurt. Just swallow your pride and get out of the way.

 

And Central could end up second in the district although it is hard to drop DB to 3rd after winning it all 2 years ago and finishing 2nd in the state last year. DB lost a ton of talent though and their coach and will be rebuilding. Most if not all of the Central girls also played club and they won't be afraid of South or DB.

 

Science Hill could enter the mix if they had another Rice or two. Unfortunately she can't play every position so they are probably looking at fourth. Many of the TN High girls also play club and they could end up in the 4 spot. In no particular order Volunteer, Boone, & Crockett will be 6-8. Very little club participation from these schools.

Guess I should have been more specific. South should go undefeated in their conference/season play. As far as dropping DB to 3rd after winning and 2nd, it happens, they have some big holes to fill and rebuilding is something all teams must face. Agree with you on SHHS and TnHigh. I might even go as far as saying those 2 schools and DB will be very exciting matches this year with anyone able to beat anyone.

I heard today that TSSAA is requiring 2 officials (R1 and R2) for tournament play?? Has anybody else run into this?

Sullivan South should be top of the conference and have enough talent to go undefeated in the season. They have more than their share of talent. Sullivan Central would be my pick for second. DB 3rd

In the AA division, hands down, Sullivan East will be #1 and will make another trip to state.

As far as East Tn. I went to Red Bank/East Ridge last week and watched South, DB (kpt), Brentwood, Soddy Daisy etc.. DB will certainly be favored as #1. They did not have Megan D. with them and still looked great. They did lose to Brentwood but it was without Megan and Merideth and would probably won had they been there. South was very impressive for a young team. After graduating 7 seniors, its basically a new team with 2 freshman that are going to contribute greatly. Their setter is going to make a huge difference, seems to have great court sense and plays defence extremely well.

Have not seen Science Hill or Central yet but I cant see it being anyone but South and DB fighting for #1..

I know a 15 yr old sophomore that is the starting shortstop for a area high school. She would love to play off season with a area team that has talent and has quality coaches. Please respond if you know of some contacts for her. If this is not the correct place for this...Sorry

Having seen Unicoi several time this year and being behind the plate a few time with them, I have to say, if they are on, they are virually un-beatable. They have the coaches, support of the parents and community that is needed to be the best. The girls are some of the nicest young ladies you will ever meet along with their parent.

I think this will be their year!

As a TSSAA / USA / PAVO official I just want to say "FINALLY"! Rules changes that make sense. These changes are great for the sport, and lines up with USA and the next level of ball... Good job NFHS!
