  1. all 4 of my highschool years as a football player (the last 4 seasons) i wanted to play red bank, or ooltewah...because all the papers claimed that they were the best in chattanooga...that could've been true, but i wanted to play them to either prove, or disprove this statement, we can sit here and say red bank would be mccallie or ooltewah would lose or whatever it is your opinion is but we never knew, remember the ooltewah team that went undefeated a couple years back, and the mccallie team that had BJ? well i do, i also remember ooltewah losing in the playoffs, and i was on the sidelines when i saw us lose to brentwood academy in the state championship...i bring this up simply because one of mccallie's games that year we played a team from S.C. they were said to be like the 3a state champs in South Carolina, but they were awful, i was a backup on that team and saw significant playing time in that game. how amazing would it have been if mccallie didnt play the team from south carolina and instead played a pretty good ooltewah team? one team woulda won and one woulda lost, but they both woulda been tested, and more prepared for the post season...it would've drawn sooooo many fans to finely or to mccallie or to ooltewah, both schools woulda made some money and also both woulda gotten some good experience that woulda been valuable in the post season...i remember before that season started we (mccallie) played Red Bank in that krystal kickoff scrimage thing, it was 20 min of running clock. it was fun, but a joke...the following year Red Bank did the same thing against baylor...i dont know facts for sure, but all i HEARD and this is word of mouth, is that ooltewah wouldnt play us because they didnt want to lose their good players to mccallie's recruiting ways...i personally havent ever seen a case of us recruiting, but i'm not denying that it could happen, but you would think that if ooltewah played mccallie and won, then why would any of thier players want to come to mccallie? same for baylor? i have heard rumors of baylor recruiting, but i wont get into that because i dont know any facts for sure...personally i think it would be great if mccallie got to play ooltewah, or red bank, or hixon, or soddy, or somebody from around town....please public schools, i dont know whether its a lack of guts, or just them not wanting to, but it would help the chattanooga community and it would also better chattanooga football as a whole

I know it would never happen, but how awesome would it be to see a Chattanooga playoff. All the teams from Hamilton County and its surrounding areas. Then you would have Ooltewah, McCallie, Baylor, Red Bank, South Pittsburg, Tyner, Boyd, Soddy, Cleveland, Dalton, LFO, the list goes on. Think of how packed all of those games would be.

To answer you last statement.... it is POLITICS and EGOs that are keeping the boys from playing. All schools recruit. Each public school has a different academy that only they offer so students can transfer. Look at Red Bank's last baseball team... led by two kids who did not get along with the Owl coach. Let's say end to politics and PLAY BALL!!!

I pull for Ooltewah and ANY Hamilton County school playing an outsider. It is all about HOMETOWN PRIDE!

  2. If this game is a "community deal" as you claim, then talk to the public schools about playing Baylor and McCallie so that they don't have to go to Charlotte, Charlottesville, Atlanta and other cities just to fill out their schedules. They already make trips to Nashville as part of their region.

If the community feels so strongly about the "right" to see this game, then the community should play them too.

I agree 100%. I am a long time Owl fan because I live in the community. I do not have children in school but I still follow them when they travel. I love and support high school football. What better match up and rivalry could be between the private and public sector than those two schools taking on Ooltewah and maybe one other community powerhouse team. The Owls only play 9 games, why not play those two. I have heard it is because the Owl principle won't allow it because those schools recruit. I do not want to put words in his mouth if that is not true, but if it is true... why did we get Caldwell and Marshall from McCallie and according to one of the other posts I saw last week... Reed from Baylor?

I say we keep Hamilton County money in Hamilton County. Heaven knows are public schools need it. And I am sure the parents of the private school kids could use a break as well.

    GO OWLS!!!

  3. Tomorrow night looks to be another great night for football. How many other owl fans enjoy playing at Bradley's facility? I think they have one of the best venues in the region. There is really not a bad seat in the house. I guess the only negative would be for the players to have to make that long haul to and from the locker room and walk on that skinny staircase.

My prediction: 2nd string players in by the beginning of the third quarter, 3rd string players by the end of the 3 third quarter and waterboys in by the fourth quarter. Maybe even put some band members in if they will come and play. Missed having the rockin' last Friday.

  4. I'm glad you agree, but as I mentioned in a previous post, I'm a girl. I don't believe they allow people of my sex to play high school football. Too bad. I would if I could - while ALSO playing in the BAND!

Hold on a minute there GIRL.... who says girls don't play? DId you not see the back up kicker at the University of Colorado (I think it was). Yes... it was a SHE and I think she kicked a field goal last year during a game when they were way up. Don't count yourself short. Not the norm I know but never the less... a girl. Keep playing... I bet you play the Sax. I love walking down Michigan Avenue in Chicago about two in the morning and hearing the different street performers playing the sax.

  5. I agree very much so with your last statement. As for your bad experience with your band director, I am sorry. Not every band can be blessed with an awesome director that sees the value in both band and sports. My band director encourages each and every one of us to participate in sports. For the past few years, we have had 1 or 2 football players to play in the band also! It's very awesome to see photos in our newspaper that shows our boys wearing a football uniform AND and band hat. =)

One thing that says alot about a school and its programs is when you see that football player march with the band at half time. My first thought is.. WOW.. what a talented young man. Then the next thing that pops up in my mind is the fact that both.. the Head Coach and the Band Director are on the same page. They both realize their job is to build character in these young adults. Give them the freedom to choose and the freedom to grow. If there were more like this... there would be no thread about hatered between the band and football team. Jock_to_jazz... I am envious of you for being able to do both and wish you good fortune.

  6. I thought 2 years ago Region 2 was better. As for this year, yea, it seems that it is basically Farragut, Ooltewah and then everyone else.

So can anyone put their finger on why Oak Ridge is down this year? Are they a young team or is this just a dry talent year? Oak Ridge has always been a powerhouse and I am looking forward to a good game against Ooltewah when we travel up there towards the end of October. I am a fan of Ooltewah but did not go to school in Tennessee. I have enjoyed following the Owls and especially watching them battle it out with Oak Ridge. I will miss this rivalry next season.

Also.. Farragut is ranked number one in the state, are they really that good?

  7. I haven't said anything all day,but I'll ask one BIG QUESTION. WHAT would owlpride,owlpride3665,owleye,battlecat,and all others that have slammed the legendary coach monroe........................if you given the head coaching job at ooltewah RIGHT NOW!!!,today what would you do?

    Since you asked...

I would first see if #17 could run a triple option... if he could not then I would see if anyone else could. I would send plays in with a flanker and go on quick snap counts and long snap counts. I would teach WHOEVER was QB how to read a defense and audible off. I would do more roll out passing to the right with #17 since he is right handed and do a drag route with the backside tight end, a flag route with the split end to the right side, a post route with the wide out to the far side and send the talback into the flat while using a fullback to lead block. You have to make the opposing corner decide who to cover and if he starts coming up... you pass it. You have to evaluate your weapons and see what they can do and what they can do really well. I would also run combo plays where you are setting up a play and come back with a second play that would be a counter to the first. A defense that is not set is already behind the eight ball. The biggest thing is you have to incorporate your QB to know how to read defenses and how to make a call at the line and trust him to do it without jumping down his throat because he did what you coached. We were running last night and getting some yards, we just needed to keep grinding it out. I know the Owls are very deep in quality running backs... USE them since we do not have much of a passing game.

  8. Houston we got a problem.....(has to be the best one liner i ve heard this year) ha ha ha!!!!!! Guy s i dont know the answer but i do know if you ve got these stud rec and underclassman, and something not working then TRY something different. I dont know any other formation the Owls could run to cater to the QB except a direct snap to Sammy or Polk and let them run or throw.

Now that is more of what we need. We all know Monroe is the head coach and is not going to listen to anyone on here and is not going anywhere. The desired rumor was he would retire when Marshall graduated. I didn't happen. However, with that said, I like hearing positive suggestions instead of bashing. I think working within the talent you have is the best option. We don't have great QB but we have a great group of players. And as far as #5, I am glad he did NOT go in because he would have gotten KILLED by those guys. Give him some play time when we are up by alot... the first three games(didn't happen)... and maybe he could come in and do something. We do have a problem when year after year players do not return after doing well as freshman. We have only 8 players off of last years freshman team. Our junior class is the strongest ever to come through but a lot of them transferred after their freshman championship season. The answer is simple... they are not going to get much of an opportunity with the varsity so give them more than three JV games to help them develop and to keep kids from transferring or quitting after their freshman season. If I am not mistaken, I heard someone sitting near me say the "JV" team has only had ONE game this season. If that is true... that is why we do not have the needed depth and experience. That is something people need to address with Monroe. After all, someone else coaches that group.. right?

Now in the words of Mapplewood's PA guy... I would like to give a CALL OUT to these guys from last night:

#36 You showed great hands with your tough catches. Great to see you are more than just a beast on defense.

#67 Even the PA guy said, someone has to block that guy. Super game... you da man!

#38 Hardest hit all night by either side on that punt return...BAMMMM!!!

#Denfensive Coach - another excellent job. Great job rotating and getting the right guys on the field for each play set.

#7 You got hurt in the first quarter and you kept playing hard. Thanks for stepping it up.

    and last but not least...

#16 You showed us that you are human after all. You did not have your best game but I commend you on 2 and a half years of perfection. I was really hoping you would get a chance to hit the game winner. Keep your head up!!!

Now let's move on to the next opponent.

  9. Congrats Panthers

HIGH FIVES Boski Dude... Sounds like some smack went on in this one.

I will only say this about the game. All who saw it in person and on the internet know where we need the help. You must make a game plan with the talent you have. You can not make someone into something they are not. We need to utilize the strength of our players and stay away from our biggest weakness. Passing is not good for us and the poor lighting on the field combined with bullet passes will never work.

I am sure I can speak for all who made the trip with this one. The best part of the trip and what made the trip worth while was......Their P.A. Guy. He was FANTASTIC!!! Very entertaining and I was amazed at how well and fast he called out the CORRECT number and player of the individuals involved. I wish we could hire this guy for Ooltewah.

Congrats Boski, you all were great hosts tonight. You have a good team and #88 is awesome. My only question for you is.... where were all of the Maplewood supporters? This is a team that palyed in the state championship last year and was playing a highly ranked team. I was disappointed in the lack of community support for your program. Thank goodness they have you and the PA guy along with the Brown's on the chains and Mr. Smith with the down marker (only your PA man would recognize hard working people. Bless him.). I would love to have you all as a regular season game.

  10. If there were no high school sports the number of band members would increase tremendously. That's what keeps kids from joining band, too many parents want Johnny or Susie to be a sports hero, and then they are not, and have nothing to show for when they are 40 years old except for a letterman jacket, and old "war stories." Band kids always have their craft, and can continue to use it long after they leave high school.

I would have to respectfully disagree with you MR. Drummer. I played at least three sports a year until I graduated high school. If it were not for some over zealous crazied band directors, I would have continued with both. I was given the option to either play in the band or play football by not our football coach but the junior high band director. I was second chair trumpet. It was then that I chose to play sports and give up the band. I did miss playing the trumpet but did not miss that band director and his hatered towards sports... especailly football. I went on to play on a state champion football team and even got to keep my jersey. My kids later used my state champion jersey as a practice jersey during rec league and was proud to wear it. Now they are playing in high school. I use my sports talents to coach mostly now and coach several sports (AAU Basketball and Select Baseball). I quit coaching football when my kids made it into middle school. There are many others like me who continue to play sports on in to their 50's and 60's. I know one day, provided the good Lord blesses me with good health, I will still be playing basketball when I am in my 70's.

I just wish SO many from BOTH, the sports venue and the music venue would not put so much pressure on kids to decide at such an early age. We have a NEED for both.

  11. Thanks for the info, I had heard of him but is he a Sr. this year? UT needs to keep all of the local state kids they can, but I am about sure UT might have a new HC next year. I like ole' Phil, but most good things come to an end after they go bad. I don't think the Reb's streak will end this week. I do not expect the game to be a cake walk but the rebels are starting to pick up play-off steam. Seen it before and never get tired of it.

No thank goodness. He is a Junior so we get one more year of only paying $6 to see him play. I have heard that UT is also interested in #8 Sammy Seamster from Ooltewah as well. If I am not mistaken, he finished second in the State track meet in the hundred to another Owl #4 Johnny Myric. #8 Sammy is a tall kid with an exceptional leaping ability. I wish they would pass to him more because he can really smoke. We are going to miss playing WB, OR and Farragut next year. Well... not really Farragut... their announcer is annoying as heck. If they through unsportsman-like penalties for annoying PA guys, he would be constantly penalized.

  12. PrimeTime, I don't think so. There is a kid named Brown playing for Harding Academy who should be #1 in the state. Your Smith is a high quality athlete so I am sure he is on someones map.

There is also a player for Henry Co who UT thinks could be #1 in the state of Tennessee as well. But who really knows.

What do you think was WB great strength?

#36 Smith has been a destroyer everwhere he has played. He went to Hunter Middle and use to run over return blockers just for fun. His signature is that when he hits a pile or a player.... things fly everywhere. He will leave his mark and you do not want to be the target. He has the size of a D1 player today and is cut like a super hero action figure. I am not a UT fan, but if that is where he ends up going, then I will be watching UT play. He is a good kid as well as a great player. I have not seen the other guys you speak of but I did play with several guys who went on to play on Sunday's. He has a special gift and hopefully he will keep his head and stay out of trouble. HE IS THE REAL DEAL.

WB's greatest strength is HEART and BRAINS. They are not big, they are not fast, but they play with 100% of their abillities. Watch for #22 and #23 on offense. These two guys are small but play big and have great hands receiving passes. Their coach does a great job of utilizing what he has to work with. Don't expect them to give up... they will bring it all game long no matter the score.

  13. check out the state track & field from this past year, all those guys from Ooltewah were juniors last year and seniors this year.

Hey Primetime... YOU ARE CORRECT my brother. Don't waste your breath on this one. He puts his foot in his mouth regularly on here from what I have read. Besides that, the Memphis teams are down some this year. I happen to have a brother in Memphis and he said the play was not up to the norm. I am sure they have some talented athletes as they have so many kids in that area, but I would put #36 up against ANYONE..and I do mean ANYONE. The Owls know WHO (sorry for the pun) would win that battle, why else has UT been scouting him since before last year. Memphis being down some is also why I think you see so many East TN teams in the top rankings this year.

GO OWLS!!! ....and GO WB!!! (you guys show more class)

  14. 24-7 Owls with one Owls defensive score. Owls have only given up an average of 7 points per game and it will continue this week.

    Go Owls

I know it is a 7 points average per game but not 7 per game against our first team defense. The 14 points in 41 seconds was because a few second team kids were thrown in late and were not up to the speed of the game. They should have worked them in earlier with some of the starters in the secondary and then they could have been up to speed. I am looking forward to tomorrow night and looking over to see boski. I bet he still wears his old practice jersey to the games.

  16. I've heard it said by many that if it weren't for sports such as football there wouldn't be any need for bands. Tell me what you think about this interesting topic.

I was a football player and i must say that I did enjoy hearing the band fire it up when we needed a little boost. I don't think being in the band makes you an athlete but it does make you part of the atmoshpere that makes high school football great. I can remember a certain person in my schools band who went on to be Clemson University's mascot in the tiger uniform. He had to do a lot of push ups because it was back when CU was really good. I can honestly say I am not sure I could have done as many as he had to do. I am sure he is not the norm, but talented... yes.

I could not tell you wether our Ooltewah Band was good or not because they rarely march at games. I think their director likes to think of football the same way many football players think of the band. It is a shame because as a fan now, it would be nice to see them perform. They do make a lot of money off of our football team because we pack the place out and they get all of the concessions.

GO OWLS!!! ...and hopefully one day this season I will get to see the band perform in a uniform and cheer for them.

  17. Our school, Lenoir City, had 3 players that told the team and coach they quit because other team members were not serious about playing football. The coach told them he does not like quitters and to clean out their lockers and leave and that they would not be allowed back. (BTW,2 of players are team Captains) . A day later, the coach tells the team that he may be letting the players come back on the team. Personally, I have always been taught, "Winners never quit, Quitters never win". If I was the coach and this happened I do not think I would allow them back on the team after they basically quit on their teammates. I don't think that sets a good example for other players on the team. Just curious what everyone else thinks about this????

Simple... Let the members they let down make the call. Then, if they are voted back on, they take their place on second team. Everyone can make a mistake, but you should have to pay your dues.

  18. Yeah well I think he has it just has to bring out of him. Maybe we will see it this weekend at Maplewood. I just hope the offense changes it up a little and mayeb throw before 3rd and 40.

I would like to see #8 Sammy take off down one sideline and #4 Johnny Myric down the other sideline, let Brady pump fake it and then air it out to one of them as they BLOW past an unsuspecting defender on the VERY FIRST PLAY from the line of schrimage. All Brady has to do is put a little air under it so that his receivers can adjust to the ball. Then in the words of the Great John Ward.... GIVE HIM SIX!!! (and I am not a UT fan)

If we do that... Boski(Maplewood's finest), will have to go buy more nachos because he will stand up yelling and spill those all over his lap. Bless his sole. - lol

  19. how could you leave out Jacquez Smith from Ooltewah. he is probably the top junior not only in chattanooga, but could be in the state.

No doubt about it! I would put Jacquez against anyone. He looks like an action figure without his shirt. Large legs, small waiste and huge muscular upper body. I also know that he is a good kid as well. He took up for a freshman being picked on at school that he didn't even know. No doubt the other kids will not be picking on that kid again.

    #36 Jacquez Smith

    #16 John Long

Two of the best in the state at their positions.

#7 Gerald Putman (working his way up the charts)

    Go Owls!!!
