  1. I happened to see the game last night at Clinton. What struck me was the fact that the Clinton boys were fouling so hard down 7 with 1 second to go. If their coach calls his boys off none of this happens. The AC player hit the Clinton kid in the mouth with the ball when he was being fouled. Couldn't tell if it was intentional or not. The refs made no call at this point, but the Clinton post player then was T'ed up for shoving one of AC's boys. After that the kid from AC was going toward his bench when the Clinton player who's mouth was busted chased after him cussing. The ref then tried to stop him from following the player and the Clinton player cussed him out and was ejected. This is first hand knowledge from one of the referees who happens to be a friend of mine. He also mentioned that this was not the first time the kid had been ejected this season. This looks to hurt Clinton alot because the player is pretty good. It really was a great game until this happened. I wonder why the Clinton players were fouling so hard with 1 second to go and no chance to win. Maybe a question for the coaching staff.

  2. The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association has ruled that former Clinton High School athlete Ryan Sharpe was ineligible during the 2008-2009 basketball season and for the football season opener Aug. 21 at Halls, according to principal Linda Davis in an Anderson County Schools release.

Clinton must vacate the wins accrued in which Sharpe participated, meaning the Dragons’ football team will be 8-0 and 6-0 in District 3-AAA — rather than 9-0 (7-0) — going into Thursday night’s televised game (MyVLT2) with Anderson County (7-2, 6-1).

Basketball wins vacated were not specified in the release.

Clinton athletic director Jim Davis voluntarily reported the violations once he learned of them, the release stated. But while the TSSAA only imposed a $250 fine for the basketball infraction and a $50 fine for the football infraction due to Davis’ move, it did add a $2,000 fine and a two-year probation period due to a non-technical violation of the recruiting law.

Sharpe was found to have been provided “a special privilege not normally provided to other students,” the TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress stated in his letter to Clinton and was quoted as saying in the release.

Sharpe was granted a hardship by the TSSAA in December of 2008, after transferring from Jefferson County, on the basis he live with his father in Clinton. But the TSSAA investigation, the release stated, found that Sharpe lived “several nights a week” with assistant principal, assistant coach and “family friend” Scotty Herrell.

Sharpe left Clinton the week after the Halls game and re-enrolled at Jefferson County.

Linda Davis said in the release that “the school’s effort to help any student in need, and, in particular, Herrell’s assistance to students, were not unusual and were not based on Sharpe’s participation in athletics.”

The TSSAA does not comment on its rulings for a 24-hour period, allowing schools ample time to handle the matter first.

  3. This debate about whether the 96-97 defensive team was better than the 01-02 defensive team seems to be the topic among a lot of people lately. Yes, 2001 was the Price brothers year. Their offense that year was great but their defense was awesome. THEY WERE TOUGH!!! Ask any player or coach on AE's or Fulton's teams that year, that played or coached against them.

I think the best team is whichever had Coleman on it! He was the difference maker on that defense and could have been on the offense if they would have turned him loose. Coleman could stack up with any of the lineman on the 96 team.

  4. OH if it isn't the FEVER coming upon this thread. Well I don't know Lo Lo and Bey Bey(it would be Bay bay in my book). However, I do know RayRAy but he is at Carter not Karns. LoLo isn't a guy nickname. now if you want to get on here and name some people let's use their actual nickname instead of one that you made up...

All these guys are pretty good, but they got nothing on Drip Drip out at Carter. He looks real good but you gotta watch out for that one.

  5. I remember when Eldridge and Wallace were at Oneida, and a lot of people were upset that both got away. Eldridge was already known to be a great coach. Good to see that Wallace is following in his footsteps. Two years in a row, AC has been as close as anyone to beating state champs Fulton. I know they lost a lot of talent the last few years, I really didn't see them being very good moving to AAA this season. Nice to see the tradition is continuing at AC.

  6. If he transferred he would lose a year of eligibility and just in case you didn't know, Wartburg, Gibbs, or Taft is not on the schedule, nor is Oakdale, Sunbright, or Jellico.

Hope you didn't have to look up the transfer rule to state what is obvious there Hawk! Of course he has to move or his dad can coach at AC and he is automatically eligible. I don't expect Sexton to move, but I know the idea has been discussed by his family. Good luck to Scott and the Indians!

  7. To be competitive in any sport, one MUST play better competition. If the SC QB is interested in playing football at the next level, AC will provide him with steeper competition. He needs to decide and soon. If he can't run with the big dogs, he needs to stay on the porch and IF he can't run with the big dogs..he WON'T play at the next level.

For the future QB at AC, I like the Sturgill kid. He's football smart and very athletic. If he concentrated on football alone (foregoing basketball) for the next year, he would start...mark my words. He's THAT good.

I like the Blakely kid at QB. VERY athletic. Good arm. But...then who would step in at TB???

Is Sturgill the lefty QB? I was told he's the only one close to being ready.

  8. Who will be Coach Shannon's Assistants and how do you think the team will do this year?

If the QB was smart he would have already transferred to AC. Even with the classification change, Scott will still be fighting to be mediocre at best. I don't blame him though, playing Oak Ridge, Clinton, Halls, etc is a lot different than playing Wartburg, Gibbs, and Taft.

  9. Heard rumblings of a move from the QB, but I don't think that his family wants to put the pressure of him playing against the big boys on the kid. Scott rarely has any realistic expectations to win in football, so the pressure is off if he's not as good as advertised. At AC he would be expected to produce this season, especially with AC's skill position players. I've heard the kid would like to play QB at the next level, if that is true he should have already made the move to AC!

  10. I heard yesterday on a local sports show that Kentucky, Texas, Miss. St are some of the schools looking at Stone so far. I think Miss St. seems to be the most interested in him at this point.

There is a big difference in looking and offering. Chad Coleman had all kinds of schools looking at him, but none were really interested once they saw film or in person. (not to mention his ACT) I would love to see Stone at UT, but he would probably be playing slot.

  11. Stopped by Spring practice 1 time. Put a pink green red yellow or whatever color jersey on Meady if he goes down its OVER. As the Big Green enters into the new era which we will refer to for next little while as LIFE AFTER 11 it has not started so well losing Smith didn't need to happen. For the last 7 years the 1 thing that Coach Woods had the luxury of was a QB that could manage to run 6 miles per night to get plays from the sideline and adjust enough to make them work(B Stanton-M Bounds-L.Stanton)seems to be quite a bit of uncertainty at this position heading into the season the word I'm getting is that Coach W has him a transfer that runs a sub 6 40 to hand it to Meady. With the schedule that has been put together IF MEADY STAYS HEALTHY Carter can win 7. The window is closing on Carter having a talent edge on the teams in their region and if history is correct as it usually is Carter only wins the games that they have a decided talent advantage in. Those will be become fewer over the next 3 yrs.GO HORNETS!!!!!

Your sons were not that good sir!

  12. It's too bad this all worked out the way it did. Had a chance to talk to a couple of AC insiders and most are pretty disappointed and wished he would have figured out his priorities before he wasted the players and coaches time. Also, many qualified candidates who WANTED to be at AC have now moved on or found other positions. AC will bounce back but Lambert's legacy at AC will be seen in a little different light now. Good luck to both
