  1. It seems refing has seen a decline in Chattanooga and in all parts of the state this year. Most likely from needing 2 ref's for each game instead of 1. I was also told by a parent that at St Benedict in Memphis they did not supply official line judges for the sub state match with GPS. They used parents for line judges and at a sub state game the coach should of protested the match. We were told when hosting you must use 2 non-school related line judges by TSSAA. They also said the refing was worse then in Chattanooga. I guess it depends on if you win or lose.

  2. you are so correct. It not only the defense they normally run the offense with passing to the setter. It seems most All-Whatever teams are made from the girls that hit the ball not the one's that pass it or even the great players that set them. Good luck against the young team of Notre Dame tonight and in the state.

  3. You are right about all the teams. Hope your little one digs up some good ones against RB. You are also correct about Coach Junior. I was thinking GPS was hosting the game it will be tough being St Benedict at Graceland.I hope you play that eagle sound on your phone Loud. You can always tell when your team is in the gym. LOL

  4. It is crunch time and I think SD is deep, and GPS is athletic. SD is 2-1 against Baylor and GPS and SD are

1-1 against each other and GPS is 2-1 against Baylor. So I could go either way with Soddy and GPS. I think the teams are really tough in AAA with Ravenwood. So I think GPS, Baylor, Sale Creek, and Signal Mt are the schools with the best chance for bring something home from the boro. I pull for all Chattanooga teams, but like GPS since he is the only Male coach in the group at a all girl school.

  5. The best players and coaches in Chattanooga???? Well we have dream teams and great players.

First we need to look at what makes the best player. I have watched middle school volleyball, to club ball, then to High School and hope to see college one year. The All-star teams and MVP’s are only as good as the people that pick them. Chattanooga has some really great players: Rachel Shaugnhessy (SD), Nicole Sumida (BAY), Lauren Bennett (OOLT), Tory Kemp(GPS), Callie Hildebrand(SIGNAL), Rachel Travis (BAY), Savannah Nelson (RB), Erin Hill(SC), Sarah Davis(SD), Katie Loftin (EH), and Olivia Holden (SD). I’m sure I left someone out, but these seem to be the biggest impact players. So a lot of high school volleyball coaches (most are basketball, softball, etc. that don’t know the game) vote based on stat’s (depends on who is keeping them) or what team they are on. You read more about Soddy, Baylor, Ooltewah and GPS big hitters so their players should win best of prep. My point is, Shaugnhessy is a great front row player, but she serves and they yank her on the bench hoping she gets back into the front row. The same for Nelson and if Baylor had another passer it would be Sumida as well. So the players that don’t come off the floor that do all the skills are: Love watching Tory Kemp on the front row, but she sets, digs, serves as well. Erin Hill, Lauren Bennett, Olivia Holden all do this as well. Sarah Davis and Katie Loftin are Libero’s coming off the court for 1 time to prevent them from serving twice. Rachel Travis and Callie Hildebrand play ever point hitting from both back and front row, passing and digging the ball. The best Athlete of the group is Tory Kemp, best volleyball players are Erin Hill, Sarah Davis, Rachel Travis, Lauren Bennett and Callie Hildebrand. My vote this year would be Erin Hill big hitter, nice setter, and a hard worker.

Best Front row player (MH)Shaugnhessy, (OH)Travis . Best Back Row player Sarah Davis, Best setter Abigail Graham (RB). Coach of the Year: Depends on who finishes the highest. Johnson (SD) Lail (BAY) Hill (SC), Brock (GPS), Redman (SM). Sorry I had a lot of time waiting for my blackberry to come back and decided to put my mind on a list. All of these great players have a lot of supporting players that allow them to do great. On any given day all of these teams have been beat and have won.

  6. After the AA's in Chatt beat up on each other they will play some of the Nash teams. Page & Goodpasture will not be friendly when you play them. Your team has beat some big teams this year. Red Bank, SM, GPS, and ER a nice list. I hope all Chatt teams make it to State

. We haven't seen your daughters team at State in a while.

  7. SMDAD, Congrads on your daughter she is a great player. Beating Baylor is hugh going into next week.

I really feel that Chattanooga will turn out this way.

    A. 1. Sale Creek, 2. Boyd

AA 1. Red Bank, 2. Notre Dame

    AAA 1. Soddy, 2. Ooltewah

    DII 1. Baylor, 2 GPS

Going to State: Sale Creek, Soddy, Baylor and GPS

    Thank you Chattanooga volleyball

    Savannah Nelson RB

    Tory Kemp GPS

    Travis Baylor

    Nicole Sumida Baylor

    Shaughnessy Soddy

    Sarah Libero Soddy

    Setter Red Bank

    Katie loftin East Hamilton

I know other teams have beat some of these players team, but it's the chemistry of the team that wins not the player.

  9. SMDAD, I follow almost all schools in Chattanooga now because of Club. I'm a fan of Coach Brock, he has helped many players at all school in Chattanooga including my daughter. However, I love to beat him as well. It sounds like ya had a great match. Ya have your share of nice players and I expect to see your team in post season. Coach Johnson's side kick is a fun man always smiling especially when SD is winning. LOL My top 10 list was fun, but hard. You need to lookout for Baylor, they rolled GPS, beat SD. If the teams need help from the bench, I think SD has depth. I wish you team well at the Tennessee Tandom this weekend.

  10. Almost halfway into season in Chattanooga. It depends on what a team has been eating that week to see who is the best. Soddy can play and has beat GPS, Ooltewah, WV, Red Bank, but hasn't beat Baylor. GPS can beat Baylor, Farragut, South, but hasn't beat Soddy. All of them have beat Ooltewah, but Red Bank has beat both DII schools in one week. So what does this mean?? Soddy-Daisy has depth so they get the #1 from me. Baylor has a great outside and a nice middle to boot. Reading the paper and watching the playdays, Tournaments, and reading SMDad, DS4L, COACH Jr it is a fun stab.

    1. Soddy-Daisy

    2. Baylor

    3. GPS

    4. Ooltewah

    5. Red Bank

    6. Signal Mt

    7. Bradley Haven't heard that in years

    8. Walker Valley

    9. East Hamilton

    10. Sale Creek

  11. Orcat, They didn't have anyone hurt. GPS beat everyone they played this past weekend. If they gane a most improved award from week 1 to know GPS would get it. They didn't show a lot in the choo choo playday. South beat them without a problem then. They beat South twice this weekend before beating farragut. I got a text that Red Bank beat GPS in 5.

  12. SMDAD was spot on at ER. Sale Creek's middle hitter and others did a great job. Coach Hill really seemed to have her girls playing. East Hamilton looked good with some of the younger girls coming on strong. South looked strong in their game against GPS and East Hamilton. Silverdale's new coach seem to have them playing better as well. At Red Bank, Soddy-Daisy looked good and Red Bank looked to be missing a few. The middle girl for Red Bank did a nice job. Ooltewah did good, but it seems they always do OK. Cleveland did alright but seemed like they were really young. Baylor did well without their big outside the tall middle sure reaches some balls when she blocks, I think Soddy-Daisy and Baylor will be the teams in Chattanooga, with Ooltewah, Sale Creek, GPS, Signal MT close behind. Hope someone post about GPS playday, I have got to travel and will miss.

  13. It has already been really hot during the camp at Red Bank, and it was the same during the playday. So I was thinking about what the most of the Knoxville posters wer saying. Chattanooga has its own coaches in chattown that have put as many if not more into college and won the big game as well. Neely at ER 1400 wins almost 50 yrs(just think 2 all-staters per year couple of State Championships), Thurman at Red Bank 800 wins, Brock (yes we have a male coach that started some clubs for the kids as well) at GPS 700 wins(couple of Championships), I also think the AC'ers forgot about coach Moore at Farragut that left with over 700 wins. When I think about Nashville They have enough Brass at BW, FR, and Page I wouldn't even compare the number of kids they have put into college volleyball to the other cities. Guessing and listening to Club parents this will be my best guess for the teams in Chattown.

    #1 Ooltewah Martin is back

#2 Red Bank Helton going to UTK

#3 Signal Mt A strong core of kids

#4 Soddy-Daisy softball will be good to this team and the big Middle will be back

#5 Baylor Coach will have them hungry for another shot at State

#6 Walker Valley a good team that seems to play together

#7 Cleveland DS and Setters can go

#8 GPS still rebuilding, but has some good jumpers and a hard nose coach

#9 Boyd young DS's 8th graders is what I was told, but Harper will get her kills

I think Notre Dame and CCS will be a big suprise this year. new coaches and club players have helped a lot.

  14. Congrads, Lady Bucs and Lady Lion's. Nooga is sure proud of you. Memphis won 2 Championships, Chattanooga won 2 and Kingsport DB (What a great team) WON 1. I'm sure this the first time that Nashville didn't have a champ at the state. They have some great teams.

  15. I see ST Benedict beating Baylor in the finals. They said St Benedict was tough at Mid-Tenn. They beat some good teams. The Irish have got to get by GPS next week to make the big dance. This has been a real challege for them the last few years. I got a text saying GPS beat BGA in 3

    My final 4:

    St. Benedict

    Baylor

    Ensworth

    GPS

GPS gone, anymore predictions on the state champion. That Irish Train gonna roll. :thumb:

Sorry, I was right about my #1. I was told that Father Ryan played Baylor really well. Then SBA just played great today in the title game. Congrads to SBA on their first State title. Another great season comes to an end.

  16. On a personal note from the Father Ryan-GPS match:

GPS senior Katie Dorris and Father Ryan Senior Ellen Mullins had a moment after the match that underscores what athletes should be about. Katie faught through the crowd and found Ellen; the exchange and embrace that followed was a touching end to 4 years of competition between two young ladies who bring it every day but also realize that being rivals on the court ends when the match is over. As tough as it must have been for Katie to know her HS career was over she took the time to congratulate a fellow "warrior". It's little things like this that make Hgh School sports worthwhile. Thank you ladies for a magical moment. Class always rules!!!!!

Coach Brock said that Ellen was total Class as well. I watched her at the Choo Choo, and she sure can play. Good luck
